Twila
Twila stayed quiet and observed the other girls while they chatted with the Prince. There was way too many voices all trying to be heard and while she loved conversation, she wasn’t one to interrupt. So she smiled and nodded as more joined and followed Miss Marla to the rooms along with the others. Her list was rather short; her clothes, her favorite pot of succulents that would sure die without her, and one of the flower arrangements from the ball. Surely it wasn’t too much to ask, she was positive they were going to be tossed out anyway. Twila said goodnight to the others, Miss Marla, and Prince Greyson, and gently shut her door for the night.
The room was uncomfortably clean. It felt like the complete opposite of her room back home, no cracks or nicks in the walls, no vines growing and hanging down tenderly from the ceiling, and everything seemed to be exactly in its place. The only thing that comforted her was the large window looking out towards the lawn. She didn’t realize it but it drew her closer and she opened it without a second thought.
The maid didn’t seem to mind too much, though she give an almost nervous smile. “I’m Twila.” She smiled, “what’s your name?”
“Melinda,” the young maid bowed as she spoke. She was quite lovely, Twila thought, and she admired the curls in her dark hair which contrasted nicely with her hazel eyes. Melinda offered to help her with the bath and turn down her bed and Twila almost refused, but she didn’t really know how the bath worked yet so at least she could just watch how Melinda did it. Why was it that every bath had to be so different that you’d have to have someone show you how it works or just fumble for 10 minutes before you get the water going? So she watch as Melinda turned a few knobs and kindly asked for the water to not be so hot.
Twila’s bath was perfect, Melinda even added a few oils to it that made her skin feel amazingly soft. When she walked out of the bathroom her bed was ready for her and Melinda was placing one of the arrangements from the ball earlier on the nightstand. That must of been an easy enough request. “Can I get you anything else Lady Twila?” Melinda asked as she walked towards the window to close it. “No!” Twila half shouted, startling the maid. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to frighten you. I’m fine, it’s just can you leave the window open? I like the sound of the breeze.” She begged kindly. Melinda nodded nervously again and wish Twila a goodnight before leaving.
Morning came soon enough and Twila found herself being pulled out of bed by a begging Melinda, “Please La- please Twila you must get up now or you’ll have no time to get ready for the day.” Twila groaned and allowed herself to be escorted to the vanity, as she rubbed her eyes. What time was it? It certainly felt much to early.
Melinda started brushing and pulling back parts of Twila’s hair as the nymph tried to keep her eyes open. When she finished, Twilas hair was nicely braided back and combed down, not a hair out of place. Twila sat there in awe but, still it didn’t feel right. While Melinda answered a knock at the door, she quickly pulled out a few whisps of hair by her ears. It had been Marla at the door, along with the few belongings Twila requested.
Before Melinda had the chance, Twila grabbed one of her pairs of overalls and a peach colored top. She tossed her clothes on quickly and took her pot of succulents from Melinda, placing them on the desk by the window and giving the petals small kisses before she was escorted to breakfast.
