A Regressive Bet

Sam nodded and smiled at Gabriel, but when a memory of Dean popped up in his mind, he whimpered sadly and started to cry.

Albeit shocked by Sam's crying, a worried expression crossed the golden-haired angel, "Hey, what's the matter, buddy? Don't tell me you're scared of outside now!" The last one was meant to be a joke...but it probably wouldn't work.

Shit. Knew this was gonna happen...how am I gonna explain this to him? Gabriel panicked, before turning his attention back to his crying little one.

"Aw...I know you do, pal. But...well, you see Dean-o soon, okay?" the archangel pseudo-lied. His plan/his and Cas' bet didn't consider either of these factors.

Sam just continued to wail, not hearing what Gabriel said, and eventually tired himself out, falling asleep in the archangel's arms.

Sighing, Gabriel pressed a somber kiss to the crown of Sam's hair, before taking him to the nursery and placing the younger in his crib. Putting a blanket over Sam's frame, and moving a few stray strands of chestnut hair, the archangel hoped that wouldn't happen as badly next time.

Even when he thinks like a baby, he's sassy, the archangel thought with hints of a fond smirk as he left the room to go call his little bro Cas.

Gabriel quickly dialed the blue-eyed angel's number. Receiving a gravelly answer, golden eyes lit up.

"Hey, bro! Any chance you and Dean-o would want to come over? Sam really misses his brother...and, well, I kinda can't deny him of that. He's grown on me."

Sam snuffled and rolled over, listening to Gabriel talking to Cas over the phone. When he heard the word Dean, he smiled.

Dean was babbling loudly, as he played with Cas' tie, and Gabriel could hear him through the phone.

"Hey! Is that Dean-o I hear over the phone? Tell him he should come visit us! That way, you can't deny it," the archangel said, tone increasingly cocky and convincing.

Cas nodded behind the phone, before looking down and smiling at his little one playing with his tie, "Alright, Gabriel. We'll be over there soon."

Gabriel grinned widely behind the phone, "Awesome! See ya soon!" he exclaimed as he hung up the phone.

Cleaning up their home a bit before Dean and Cas arrived, Gabriel whistled to himself and hoped this would go along well. The Winchesters hadn't seen each other in a while, so they were most likely to latch on immediately.

Meanwhile, Dean continued to play with Cas' tie as the angel packed up some of their things. He heard "Sam" over the phone, and wanted to see his little brother so badly. Hopefully he was okay.

Sam couldn't contain his excitement, and sat up in his crib, bouncing slightly. "Dee...." He babbled.

Cas smiled and he scooped Dean up, and teleported to Gabriel's house, placing Dean on the floor, and smiling at him. "Now, you be a good boy, Dean. Or I'll have to punish you again." Cas warned.

Entering the nursery, and hearing Sam babble his brother's name, Gabriel smiled before picking up his little one, "Yeah, kiddo. Let's go see 'em, huh?"

Nodding along with Cas' words, Dean promised to be a good boy. He didn't want to be punished again, it wasn't fun. But looking up, and seeing Sammy, Dean smiled widely and squealed in happiness.

"Alright, squirmster. Go see your brother," the archangel remarked as he set Sam down on the floor.

"S-Sammy!" Dean said, as he wrapped the younger in a loving hug. He hadn't seen Sam in so long, and didn't want to be separated from him for a while, not unless the older had a say in it.

Gabriel exchanged a bittersweet look with Castiel, and the archangel felt his heart break for the first time in almost forever. Those two Winchesters were inseparable, and both angels should have known that. And the brothers were also gonna be the death of them too.

Frowning at Sam's tears, Dean cooed in his brother's ear to help calm him down. Tears of joy pooled beneath green eyes also, but Dean blinked them away. He didn't want Sammy to see them.

Sam pulled back and just stared at Dean, tears still in his eyes. He had never missed his brother so much, before.

Cas couldn't help the smile that formed on his face. The brother's were just so cute together.

Smiling sadly, Dean patted his brother's face and cooed once more. The older didn't like seeing tears in Sam's eyes, even if they were from joy. He didn't like the idea of Sammy crying, period.

"Geez, you two. Could make a grown angel cry," Gabriel uttered coyly, golden eyes sparkling with affection.

Following his brother, Dean crawled to Sam's nursery, and babbled happily. Now he got to spend time with Sammy, just like he wanted. The older vaguely wondered how many toys Sam had.

Winking at Cas, Gabriel trailed behind their little ones, keeping an eye, but also letting them have some private time together.

Cas tilted his head slightly, but decided to follow his brother, making sure Dean was behaving and okay.

Plopping down on his padded bottom, Sam smiled as he pulled out his box of toys, showing Dean each one.

Standing in the doorway, the archangel watched with interest at seeing the two interact.

Gurgling, Dean nodded and smiled at each toy Sam showed him. His brother sure had a lot of toys.

Sam smiled and handed Dean his favorite plushie, wanting him to keep it, so he'd have something to remember him by, after he left.

Cas smiled, and looked at Gabriel, surprised at the way Sam had turned out.
