Fantasy A Murder at the Inn

It's an inn, not an apartment complex. The family lives there, but other guests are transient by definition so there would be fairly few. Given the era, written notes are highly unlikely. But for parameters, these would mostly be economic measures. I assume that the lord wouldn't be willing to pay for the room and the meals for your investigator for more than a few days, probably sent limited resources, and is expecting some kind of result to show for it, even if it's a (pardon the term) witch hunt.

I think a good time limit of two weeks to find someone to take the blame,because I don't think the lord would really care if its the right person or not.

Is it okay if I play the role of a travelling merchant? Well, he looks like a travelling merchant, with his goods and all, but I'm thinking that he could also be a fantasy creature, maybe a vampire or something human looking, and is using the merchant disguise to fool humans.

Hi! I'd be interested in playing a travelling minstrel looking for a job as long as I can keep up with everyone else post-wise :) Would that be cool?

@RachelTheStarChild

That sounds like a plan. The pressure to find someone to pin the blame on should be great for keeping the plot going.

@CrimsonEclipse

That might work. There are two main things I'd like to address about the concept. First, I think a vampire might be a bad idea in this scenario due to the whole sunlight thing. It would be really hard for a vampire to travel down the road selling their wares without needing to be exposed to sunlight. Maybe something a bit more subtle? A puck comes to mind with a travelling merchant, giving that both have lifestyles revolving around material exchange and proper behavior. I could also see a pooka or even a regular faerie.

Also, a travelling merchant would probably only stay for the inn one night and not have a whole lot to do while they're there. I would love it if you could find some way to get your character more involved in the events- maybe @RachelTheStarChild's character could accuse yours? I'm not really particular about what it is, but ideally every character in this RP will have some stake in the outcome of the events so that they're all causing the plot to move along. Is that making any sense? Pretty much, I just want everyone to be actively moving the plot instead of some characters just sitting around. ^^

@mikaluvkitties

It would be, but, like I said above, I would really like everyone's character to be vested in the events somehow. If you can get your minstrel involved, I'd love to have them. ^^

@mikaluvkitties

Well, that's not impossible, but I do feel the need to remind you that the victim has a twenty-four year old daughter, putting her in her mid forties. Also, there's no brother character at the moment, though I suppose you could play them both if you were really dedicated to the idea.

That's cool- wanted to play him late thirties anyway. So would it be possible to be a love interest or friend of the victim or something?

Certainly! ^^ I didn't mean to discourage you; I just wanted to make sure everything was kosher. A love interest/friend would be a great way to get him involved in the plot.

I'm thinking that some might have a special connection to animals as an innate gift, but it wouldn't be a prerequisite or even especially widespread. I'm also picturing witches as being fairly secular, so a familiar would be a companion and possible source of extra magical energy rather than a link to satan or any other theological interpretation. It's actually a really good question and I'm definitely willing to give a lot of flexibility since a familiar could be a fun addition.

So, right now, I'm thinking that I can get the thread up at this time tomorrow or maybe a few hours earlier. This ETA might change, but hey, that's why it's an estimate. I would really love to get a murderer character between now and then, work out some history between characters who have met before, and maybe set up a rough sequence of events so we know where we're headed.

The thread is up! I'll still be checking this one periodically, but we can migrate most of our discussion to the OoC chat there.
