The street lights flickered as the small town slept. A lone man walked down the street, dressed in a long trenchcoat and wearing a hat. His green eyes lifted up from looking at the ground to the houses in front of him. Sadness with a hint of happiness swirled in his eyes. He stopped right underneath the street light seeming afraid to approach the houses of the street. Memories began to flood his mind.

One was when a girl, the same age as him, asked him to come over and help her bake cookies at 2 am in the morning. Another was with the same girl, trick-o-treating the Halloween night away. The man sighed, a tear escaping from his eye.

"Oh Lexi I'm so sorry," he whispered out to the wind.

A girl sat at her window. Her 18th birthday had come and gone. She however found no joy in it like she use to.It was late and she sat with her back to the window. Her hair long and fell to the middle of her waist. Lexi was up in her bedroom she had been writing furiously in her note book. She was doing homework and listening to music. She had put off doing her work for quite some time, so this is where she was. Her back shivered and she turned quickly to look out at the street she opened her window and looked out. She had an odd feeling things were going to change and some one was watching her. From her window she didn't see anything

A microscopic shock flowed through him. His eyes glanced around frantically in search of something. His wings began to flutter uneasily underneath the trench coat. He stood where he was though and calmed himself down. He closed his eyes and breathed in the air around him. A few seconds afterward he opened his green eyes.

Tentatively he took a few steps forward afraid of the future ahead. A few meters he stood from the street light. His eyes examined the houses seeking for a specific home. The light eminating from a home grabbed his attention.

"Lexi..." he whispered. Without his consent, his body sprinted to the house. Seeing as how the window was on the second floor he jumped allowing his wings a few flaps to help him up onto the balcony. But once he reached the balcony he jumped into the nearest tree hiding in the shadows.

What am I doing? I'm not suppose to see her. But it's not like you're ever going back THERE. Not tonight or else you might freak her out.

An internal conflict stirred inside him. He gritted his teeth but decided to stay hidden within the branches but had a clear view inside of Lexington's room. He saw her, Lexi, his former crush. His wings flapped excitedly but he restrained himself. She was still ad beautiful as ever. He sighed knowing how close he was to her but yet she was so far away from him.

Lexi watched, she thought she saw a figure and when she blinked it was gone. She sighed closing her window. Lexi went and sat at her desk. She worked on her paper for another half hour. Lexi printed it, put it in her bag and stretched. She sighed and went to the window again. She bit her bottom lip in despair. Lexi hated that he left her."Forget it Lex he isn't coming back."She says to herself. With one last look out the window, she got up and opened her door. she showered and changed in the bathroom.

Lexi walked back into her bedroom brushing out her hair. she closed her door and turned off the light. She went to the window and opened it with a sigh. She remembers they use ti do this when they sneak out he sneak over and climb into her window and they would sneak out. If her window was closed meant she wasn't there or didn't want to go out. However since he left she would leave it open every night just in case.

A pain blanketed the man's heart. So long has it since he entered that window and entered into a bubble of bliss. His eyes followed her every movement noting how her attitude has changed.

It's all my fault...

He felt her eyes pass over him several times but he did not try to move an inch. Squatted in the branches he waited in the dark and silence waiting for Lexington to fall asleep.

Lexi went to her bed and layed down on it. She sighed and closed her eye's. Tears ran down her cheeks as they did nightly for the past few years. She curled around her pillow and fell fast asleep. Though her dreams that night seemed to be different darker. She cowered into her pillow and whimpered in her sleep. Lexi was dreaming about the day he left and her imagination was running wild with what had happened to him. He hadn't called messaged her emailed her. Like he promised. She thought the worst had happened. I mean why wouldn't he speak to her, if he wasn't okay.

He could hear her whimpers and cries from her sleep. His heart cried out to comfort her. This time he obliged to his heart. Quietly he tucked his wings in as quietly as possible. At this point he already lost the trench coat because of how hot it made him underneath. He jumped from the branch neatly onto the balcony. It took him quite an effort to be silent though for the branches swayed just a bit but enough to make sound.

He peered over the window into the room to see Lexi still asleep, trapped in nightmares. Swiftly he jumped through the window and into her room hoping that he didn't make a sound.

Memories flashed back to him as he looked around the room. He felt regret and guilt. But he shouldn't feel regret for why he left, he had no say in it. His eyes turned to the nightstand to see a picture of him. He remembered that day. It was the day right before he left.

They were out at their favorite restaurant sharing a Sunday. People behind them from school kept shouting, "Why don't ya'll just date already?" He remembered how he blushed at their comments but Lexi would just laugh making him smile.

Then his eyes turned back to current Lexi.

She's so close...just an armlength away.

His arm was in a mid-reach about to comfort her but he pulled back. The rustling of his wings reminded him of his leaving and now returning back.

I need to see her though...She has been hurt because of me.

His luminous green eyes gazed down at her. He didn't know what to do except stand over her like a guardian angel.

Lexus dreams had some how changed. She was laying in her bed as she was bow. She felt a dark presence. Something strange, her dream self woke to see a figure in the dark."Hello?"She asked. She got out of bed and went to turn on the light. Before she could, she felt a pain shoot through her arm. Same pain shot through her arm in real life waking her."Ahhh shit."She muttered. She heard a small rustling noise and turned quickly to turn on her light. Once it flickered on, she saw her room was empty. Her face frowned, why had she thought any one be there. She sighed and rolled her wrist trying to get rid of the pain. She looked at the window once more and then went back to lay down. She stared at the ceiling as she absently rubbed her wrist.

That was a close call...

He was standing over her when he heard her awaking. He nearly tripped over the window trying to escape. His eyes watched over her.

He could see her rubbing her wrist. Oh how he wanted to help her.

Soon Lexi soon.

He glanced back once more into her room before he jumped down from the tree and flew off into the night skies leaving behind happiness and love.

The morning sun rose into Lexis window. And her alarm was yelling at her. She sighed and rolled over slamming her hand on it. Lexi slowly sat up and went to the window. She closed it and went to get dressed. She put on a black V-neck, jeans combat boots and dark mark up. She fixes herself in the mirror and grabbed her bag. She slid down the banister and grabbed an apple. "Bye mom off to school. "She said. She grabbed her keys and walked to the table by the door. She put on the necklace she wore daily since she was 11. He had given it to her for her birthday. Well his mom bought it but he picked it out just for her.She sighed as she put it on.She hadn't had the heart to throw it away. She finally made it out the doir just as her mom was telling her to actually go to school today. With a slam of the door. She walked to her car and drove for the school lot. She stopped short as a big black car drove in front of her cutting her off."really idiot" she honked at him.

Irish Ice Queen

Every movement she made he noted it.

She's changed so much from the happy, innocent girl I knew.

He saw how she dressed differently from her colorful blouses to plain clothes. He moved as her shadow following her everywhere she went.

He flew high above her, disguising himself as a huge predator bird. His eyes were fixed on her vehicle observing as she drove to school. By her hand movements and the way her mouth made out words she seemed to be snappy and not happy. This burdened his heart much more. He flew down closer to the ground and landed on the nearby trees of the school. His eyes glanced around at the people in the school. So many familiar faces that he grew up with. He wondered if they missed him. But mostly he wondered if she missed him.

Lexi pulled into school and slammed her door with her foot her day was already starting off just great. Her wrist was burning and she was almost in an accident. She rolled her eye's people were stupid. She leaned on her car and grabbed a smoke. She lit it up and breathed in then gently exhaled. She looked around her dark brown eyes seemed to have hardened and become lifeless and cold.Lexi sighed and turned hearing a voice calling her. It was a girl in all black. "Hey Kenz.Finish your homework? "She ask and flicked her bud to the street when she finished. Her friend would ramble on and on the girl wouldn't shut up."Kenz slow down damn okay, I don't know and I am not in the mood to talk. Long night."She said the girl nods and falls silent. "Come on Kenz lets get inside before Heather gets here."She said and grabbed her bag off her car walking inside the building.

Smoking? Oh dear...it really must of hit her hard.

The frown on his face deepened as he continued observing Lexi. He saw her walking into the school and knew he won't be able to watch her in her classes so he decided to do something else.

He opened his wings and flew the skies to the local mall. He had retrieved his trench coat from yesterday and put it on before he entered the mall. A bit baffled by the change the mall underwent for two years, he looked around trying to remember something. Then it came suddenly. The gift he was suppose to give Lexington the day he left.

He hurried over to the store where they sold the gift and gathered all the materials needed to wrap the gift. A bit of peace was in him as he stood there in the mall taking in the human world. But he looked at a clock in the mall and saw that it would almost be lunchtime at the school.

He zoomed out with great speed, driven by his passion. In a matter of few minutes he saw the schoolyard beneath him. If he can guess Lexington right, she will eat outside for she has always loved the outdoors like him. He landed on the ground seeing he had two minutes. He looked around at the tables outside trying to guess the right table Lexi would sit at. Soon running out of time he decided to just pick a table, the one by the oak tree, and placed his gift there.

Hearing the bell ring he flew off into the edge of the woods nearby the school where he could still watch Lexi from. He gave a tiny hopeful smile hoping Lexi would love her gift.

Lexi went through her mundane ritual of going to class. She would take notes and tap her pencil. Every class she went to was one boring thing after another. Finally before lunch she asked to be excused. She said she was going to the nurse. She how ever just wanted to ditch school she had turned in her paper and the rest of her classes didn't interest her. She walked out side to the lunch area she would stay till the bell rang for the next period after lunch. She went to the oak tree and pulled out her pack.she stopped seeing a bag on the table. She walked over and picked up. She was going to take it to the front office. She stopped when she saw her name scrawled out. She furrowed her brow and slowly opened it.She looked at the necklace. It was beautiful, but where had it come from. She held it in her hand and looked around. She looked at the note again then the necklace. She sat on the table and put the bag in her side bag. She looked at the writing perplexed. Who would leave her something so amazing. She sighed and finally put it on as the bell rang. She waved her friend down and nods to the gates. The girl nods. Lexi grabbed her side bag and pocketed the writing. She looked around for teachers and then slipped off campus going for her car.

His wings shuffled in excitement as he saw Lexi looking at the gift he left for her. A bit of humor when he saw her confused face knowing she will never guess him.

He jumped up into the sky once again following Lexi seeing her leaving school. Keeping a distance his flight was well above the ground but close enough to spot her.

Soon.

Lexi went to her car and looked around. Her friend got in the car." Come on Kenz, I need to look at something. "She drove for her house. Before parking she looked down the street to look for her mom's car. She cursed forgetting it was her day off. Lexi drove and parked around the corner. She looked at friend "wait here I will be back." Lexi got out of the car locking the doors. She looked around as she grabbed her neighbors wall and scaled it easily. She snuck through the back yard over to the other wall. She scaled that and jumped to the ground in her yard.

She peaked in and saw her mom cleaning. She sighed and went ti the back of the house as she climbed the tressels near her bedroom. Lexi finally got on the balcony and went to her window. She pulled the clear string to unlock her window. Her mother had already cleaned her room.Lexi lifted her window and snuck into her room. She webt ti her desk and opened the bottom drawer. She pulled out a book full of things she and Matt had done pictures, notes, and just some random stuff. She pulled out the paper with her name on it.She went through to stuff from two years ago. She stopped and looked at the hand writing even more puzzled. "Matt?"She asks quietly. She put the book back under a secret compartment and locks it closing the drawer. She snuck back out and locked her window with the attached string you could only see if you looked hard enough. Which thank god her mother didn't. Lexi made her way back to the car the same way.

She got in her car and sat in a daze. She hadn't uttered his name since he left. Even giys in her class named that she called them by there last names."urn Kenz can I drop you off some where I need to think."the girl nods

"Sure Lex just at the mall."She said. Lexi nods and drives her there. Once her friend was gone Lexi made her way to the cemetery. Lexi parked walking for the back. She finally stopped at unmarked grave. She sat on it and sighed. She was looking at the stone head."I know your bot really in there, but this was the only way I could think of you."She muttered. She hadn't been here in two years.

A sigh of sadness escaped his mouth when he followed her to a cemetery. There was no cover for him to hide in. He began to panic.

Where am I going to hide? She might see me! Oh where do I go now? At any rate she will see me.

He turned left and right in search of a hiding place. Then finally another side of him stood up.

It is time you face her!

He gulped and closed his eyes. Out of nerve he brushed his hand through his hair. His eyes glanced down at Lexi.

Now is the moment.

He descended down slowly. He decided to land by a nearby dead tree. Landing neatly on the ground he tucked his wings back in and stood up looking out in front of him to see Lexi at a tombstone. Her back was facing him.

It's now or never.

He took a few steps hoping to stay silent but instead crushed a dead twig in front of him. A quiet curse word came out of him.

Lexi was lost in thought looking at the tombstone. She sighed and went to get up. She wiped her eye's and stopped hearing a noise. She figured it was a dead twig snapping under someone's feet. Who the hell could be here at this time. She turned slowly and stopped seeing him."Matt?"was all she could say. She was dumbfounded, stunned, relieved, mad, and over joyed. She didn't know what to do.she was mad cause there he was. He wasn't dead and he had been alive this whole time but no contact. Relived, he wasn't dead, overjoyed he was here and stunned for the same reason and dumbfounded, because she was confused as to why he was here and would show himself to her now.She looked about and closed her eye's then opened again. No she wasn't dreaming this was real.

Irish Ice Queen

His eyes looked up from the broken pieces of the twig up into the eyes of his best friend, Lexi. His heart swelled with love and yearning for the years lost. Tears were streaming down his cheeks. A smile that was lost for two years finally found its way to his face.

"Lexi," it was all he could say before he was choked with happiness. So much emotion was flowing through him that he couldn't control his wings and they unfurled without his command. He didn't notice though for so much happiness was in front of him that he couldn't take his attention away from it or else it might get away.

"It's me, Matthias," so long has he said his human name, but what was his true name. He took another step forward hoping to embrace this happiness.

Lexi watched him and saw his wings. She stepped back towards the tombstone. Lexi kept the distance between them."I I know who you are or at least I thought I use to."She said. She stepped back again. Her eye's landed on his black wings. Was she going crazy. This had to be another one of her vivid dreams. "Wake up wake up wake-up. "She said to herself."I thought you were dead, I got nothing no notes, no calls."Lexi said. She watched him through dark eye's. There cold look hadn't melted. She was a bit more freaked out. "And are thise wings?"She asks

Irish Ice Queen

Her comments made him stop in his tracks. Confusion was clear in the air. He sighed knowing it was going to have to come to this eventually. Out of his happy phase he was able to feel that his wings were open. With much effort he glanced back at his wings.

"Yes Lexi. These are wings, Angel wings," his eyes moved back to her, "But please understand. Where I was at I could not communicate with you. No matter how hard I tried I was imprisoned." Sadness filled his eyes as he remembered the events. "Please, please, please forgive me," he begged. His wings drooped and his eyes were growing bigger. Matthias wished she could understand.

"Lexington I was taken the day of our sixteenth birthday, the day I found out I was an angel. They took me someplace bright but restricted. I was not allowed human contact. For the past two years I have done many catastrophic events just to get kicked out of the place to be with you. And finally I found out a way to break away. It was so simple also," he gave her a weak smile.

"I had to confess that I love a mortal. A forbidden law in that world," Matthias whispered.

Lexi looked at him." So your technically a fallen Angel. Thats why your wings are black. And in love with a mortal?"She asked. She looked at him and breathed. She took a step towards him. She bit her bottom lip. Could she do this to herself again."and I don't go by Lexington any more. I go by Lexi."She says. She stepped forward again and closed the gap.She threw her arms around his neck. She broke down into tears. He was really back, nothing else mattered. Yeah she had taken it pretty hard when he left. She knew when he was gone again she be pretty messed up again, she didn't care she needed him. Lexi was just draped around him like a human scarf. She had missed needed and lived him for two years. Yet here he was back and in her arms. Her wrist strategy to burn again. She pulled back slightly. "What the hell is with this stupid burning sensation in my wrist. "She says.
