A family secret

(It has come to my attention that you reply much faster than I do; I apologise for the unjust.)

"Woah," the male stiffened, his hands raised up to show that his nails looked normal enough. (Unfortunately the twitchy ears on his head and that obnoxiously long tail couldn't be said the same.)

"Easy there," he took a step forward, paused, and hesitantly made one more (tinier) step closer to her. "Humans aren't in my diet. Don't start a freak out here." He sounded annoyed. "And what, you couldn't tell I was joking? Frogs have intelligence too - who'd swim in a well if it's that deep? It's like a one-way ticket to death."

Che, looking all fragile and whatnot-

Scowling, he briskly walked to her despite the screaming protests in his head ("She's human! Don't trust any humans except for Mother!") and reached out with an arm behind her shoulders, careful not to clutch his fingers into her skin.

"Let's get you upstairs to your room," he mumbled, much like a sulking child. He was so ready for confrontation and some violence, too .. "You look like you could get some rest. Can you stand?"

(Simply because I type fast and have nothing better to do most time ^^")

Freyja had blacked out but only for a few moments, the next thing she remembers is being lifted up, "M-my room? I thought I fell asleep.." She stood up the best she could though her legs were shaky. "So..your not a dream? Why do you look this way?" She frowned as she leaned against him her sense of balance not yet back. She would close her eyes every few moments as they walked to try and focus better. At times she would sway and lean her head against him. "S-sorry..I just.." She sighed. "Im confused by everything.."
(hey im heading to bed, if you wish to post ill reply tomorrow asap :) also ill be on early in the day though i dont know how different our time zones are)

(I would reply faster but I'm taking ages to load everything. Was checking out another roleplay as well. Sorry. And uh, it's 4PM my time right now, roughly. I think we're 12 hours apart. Sleep well, Morty.)

Creases formed between his eyebrows. She sounded a little too faded out. For a moment, his blood felt cold.

This isn't familiar at all, a sarcastic voice of pessimism teased.

"Just don't croak on me," he hoisted her up without maintaining eye contact. As they ascended the stairs, he studied her. Hard. It didn't seem like he was up to reply her questions. "Watch your step."

And thus the conversation died away.

That was, until they reached the very last platform. "Guest room, or," a swallow, "hrm, your grandmother's?" He will personally kill himself if his guess was wrong. He had promised to welcome Mother's grandchild. If this was some random bumpkin here to hog an empty, owner-less house..

Death was inexcusable!

(I see well right now Its about 1 PM for me)

Freyja tried not to learn to much on him, "I dont know..whichever grandma would have intended me to have..But she didnt specify in her will." She looked up at him and wondered if grandma had a child without anyone knowing, but he was at least close to her age and he didnt look like her. "I dont wish to disrespect her.."

(I kinda' just got up so my brain's not working right. Be back after 6 hours when lunch with my slowpoke uncle is done.)

"Huh," his right eyebrow pressed down, "Yeah, I'll just .. take you to the room across mine, then."

Let us just conveniently forget to mention how long it has been since you changed the sheets.

Right after they moved away from the stairs, he lowered himself and slung an arm behind her knees, sweeping her balance off. With the female in his arms, he made a bee-line to the guest room before nodding his chin at the bronze-coloured knob.

"Need a hand."

(Hey sorry I would have replied yesterday but I was wiped out)

Freyja gasped and quickly hugged his neck. Her cheeks flared and she let go but held on with one arm, "Sorry I always freak out when someone picks me up like this.." She looked at the ground for a moment then looked at the door. She reached out and turned the knob pushing the door open for them to go through.

The musky air gushed out in a wave of heat and dust. He momentarily reeled. It was not a good idea to seal the room after all. Even if she doesn't die from whatever fainting spell, she would've died from suffocation in there - he would choke to death in that room before he'd carry her there.

It was just that stuffy.

He spun around and padded his feet to the room across, kicking the door open having left it ajar when he snuck out earlier. The door knob hit against the wall with a bang and bounced back right after he slid in with the girl in his arms.

Unceremoniously, he dropped her on his (barely made) bed. For a split second as he laid her head down on his pillow, he panicked, remembering his dagger. Then he quickly recalled that he had taken it out in favour of- well, let's not go there.

"I'll go get you a bowl of water."

Freyja pressed herself close to his body when the door opened, it was like opening a car door when it was left in the sun all day! She turned her head away to say something but it seemed he felt the same way. "That was interesting.." She said as he plopped her down onto another bed in another room. When he got her situated she looked at him oddly, "You dont need to do all this..I just have a crazy blood pressure that acts up when I get excited like that.." She looked around the room and noticed that it look recently lived in.

(You said you're wiped out earlier. I just thought you'd feel a bit tired, or something.)

He straightened his form and scratched the back of his head, then cheek, glancing to the side, although looking at nothing in particular. His tail swayed in the air like a sleepy snake.

"Your reaction is by far some of the best I've seen, at least." Throwing a peek at her, he shuffled his way out of the room like a dejected school boy called into the discipline master's room. "I'll be back. Just lie down."

Right before closing the door, he stuck his head back in with a grumpy expression that looked suspiciously like a pout. "And don't snoop around."

(Ah yea just a bit..my insomnia has been acting up lately and throwing me off with my internal clock)

Freyja frowned, why would she snoop? Then she realized he probably put her in his room. She wanted to say something but wasnt sure WHAT to say, he didnt seem to like her at all and didnt want to make him mad. She watched him go and looked out a window that she could see from where she was laying down. And like nothing happened she closed her eyes and drifted.

Meanwhile.

"Oh yes! Let a total stranger human hog up the place you have been living in for twenty odd- fuck, has it been that long? I'm old- wait, what was I, oh right. Twenty odd years, then let her take over your bedroom as well! Next thing you know, you're in the same bed as her, Ashnel! Genius!"

Some water spilt as he near-chugged it from the jar, having scooped the cauldron's content into a better container, down into the plastic bowl. He suddenly remembered that Mother had mentioned how plastic bowls were easier to clean than wooden ones after she made a huge change in the kitchen. "The modern oven is nice!" She even said. But despite that, she was a hag who valued sentimental things, so the stone oven was never removed.

Oh, right. Mother said ..

Grumbling, Ashnel hopping over the kitchen table, conveniently long and narrow, and fetched some crackers from a tin can on the shelf.

With the plate of crackers and bowl of water in both hands, he went up the stairs skipping one step at a time as if second nature.

"Knock, knock," he rolled his eyes and stood outside the door.

Freyja hadnt drifted to sleep like this in so long, probably because the city made her restless and stir crazy. She was half asleep when she thought she heard someone knocking, and in her sleep she thought she was back in the city. "Its late Lance go away!" She rolled over and groaned, her head was killing her and for some reason it was quiet. Much quieter than usual. She sat up and looked around, her shirt was hanging off her left shoulder and her skirt was a mess wrapped along her legs. SHe realized she was elsewhere and someone needed into the room, but she was still so groggy. Her shirt was pulled up some and her tank tops straps drooped off her shoulders. "Yes?" She opened the door looking all sleepy like.

(My quotations mean I'm speaking them.)

"Food," he shoved the plate of crackers at her, of which one piece flirts dangerously close to the edge, about to fall. He chucks forward the bowl at her as well. "Water. You'll live." His voice was frosty enough to freeze flame.

Without waiting for her to blink away the sleep, he bumps his shoulder into hers and slams both items onto the nightstand, storming out after without another word. Each step down the stairs was uncharacteristically loud, considering his usual agility and grace.

As he sat in the furniture she had occupied earlier before the spell, he cupped his cheek with a hand and glowered with hooded eyes at the innocent wall.

"Lance, she says."

(Feel free to do a timeskip.)

Freyja stared on finally remembering exactly all that had happened and was shocked by the anger she felt from him. She was going to talk to him but he stormed off so fast she didnt have the chance. "What did I do?" She stared at the empty hallway and sighed walking back to the bed. She looked at the crackers but had no appetite. The feelings stirring up inside her made it hard to even think of food. She could use a shower though..but she didnt want to bother him a this moment. She blushed when she looked at the dissary of her clothes and quickly fixed it, "Dammit.." She walked over to the window and looked down..to far to jump. But it was all she could do..she had done sports after all. She sat at the sill and breathed deep then jumped before she could think otherwise, she kept her legs straight for the most part then when she hit ground she bent them making the landing less painful. She didnt feel welcome so she needed some time outside..

His ears twitched, hearing the sound he was all too familiar with.

"That woman is going to be my bane!" He threw his hands into the air and hissed, dashing to the front door and pushing at it, only to remember that he had previously, literally, bolted himself in.

... "Fuck!"

Cornered, he looked around and saw the open window. He was about to glide through in a cannonball jump when a thought flickered in his mind. Giving it another consideration, he decided to let her be and storm his way into the kitchen, venting his anger with dough-mashing and rolling. They were going to have bread tonight whether she fancied it or not.

Freyja took a moment to gather herself and ran off into the woods. "You want to be angry fine then..ill give you your space" She stopped and looked around as the setting sun filtered through the trees. It was so much more beautiful than that small cramped apartment. She walked deeper into the woods and listened to the birds and looked at deer. (Skip a little while)

She was sitting under a large tree as night time started to come and she realized it was best to head back. The last thing she wnated to do was get lost n the forest at night. With a sigh she got up and started her way back to the house.

There were a crackle of twigs in front of her, although nothing would be seen.

Then, there was hissing on top of a tree she was standing close to.

A dark shadowy figure was looking down at her with a leer. Its bearings were getting closer to her as it seemed to lean forward, more and more until the figure practically was next to her.

Moonlight hit right on to the shadow to reveal it was Ashnel, dangling from a strong vine, upside down. He did a slow and passingly elegant twist and landed right on his foot before planting a hand on his hip, the other still clutching onto the vine. His eyes looked annoyed. "You're finally done lazying around. I should punish you for making dinner wait for you."

Freyja gasped and stepped back, but when she noticed the shadow she tried her best to make an angry face. "Punish me? Making dinner wait? You dont even like me I didnt think you were doing anything but your own thing! So..I went for a walk and found a nice spot to be for awhile. It was nice and I have rejuvenated myself." She crossed her arms over her chest as the chill started to set in for night time. She also didnt know he could hiss.

His jaws tensed up for a moment. With, what seemed impossible, even more irritation plastered on his face, he folded his arms, tail arched downwards before giving an angry whip at the air.

"I wasn't aware that one has to form a friendly rapport with an author before reading their book."

Rubbing a thumb along the bridge of his nose before pressing it onto the space between his eyebrows, he exhaled a ragged sigh. "Just- get moving."

With that said, he took a wide stride towards the house, faltered, then turned his shoulders to face her and reached for her wrist. He tugged with a firm grasp. His eyes weren't on hers, curtained by his dark locks. "I made bread with curry," the male shot her a look that seemed like a twist of smile and frown (however he managed that, being such a confusing boy), "If you tell me you're vegetarian, you'd best stay here. More foliage."
