Conor Sullivan

Conor watched as James lead Fallon and Jackson to his office to talk. He didn't want this to end up with James and Jackson coming to blows, especially not over the dead Italian boss. All of the lads were friends and that's how he wanted it to stay! His attention was snapped away from his worries about what might be going on when Finn asked if they were getting pissed. Conor turned to his cousin and smiled. He felt tense and with Ali looking displeased as well as Fallon's awkward arrival, Conor needed to relax if he was going to ensure Lucy had a fun night. He could focus on staying sober tomorrow. Honestly, what kind of psychos would force him to control his drinking on his sister's birthday party anyway?

"Of course we're getting pissed, mate!" Conor grabbed a bottle of whisky from the side and poured as much as he could fit into the glass tumbler, then downed half of it in one go. "Jackson's going to have some catching up to do, so he'd be be quick talking to bossman James!" he loudly spoke. With his free hand, he placed his arm around Finn's shoulder. "I've missed this. All the lads together," he noted. He then motioned to Peter and grinned. "We need to make sure Pete joins us too. Tinkerbell was drunk last night, so it's only fair she let's him get pissed tonight."

Tommy remained seated on the bench whilst Braden talked to him about how he wanted to learn how to fix cars. The kid also went on to say how cool he thought Tommy and Jackson were, wishing he could help them guard the house but knowing Sinead didn't like anything remotely gang-related.

When the girls returned to the bench for a breather, with Emery trailing behind, Braden looked to Michelle and smiled at her. "Hi. I'm Brady. Emmy and Savvy are my sisters," he introduced himself. Something was still playing on his mind and despite Sinead telling him he was mistaken, he still knew what he'd heard. "My uncle Conor said he's your dad. Is that right?" he curiously asked.

Savannah scrunched her face up as she looked to Braden. "Brady, that's so stupid," she said. "Conor's not your daddy because we'd all know that by now," she tried to reassure Michelle. "Brady's just trying to cause trouble."

Emery rolled her eyes and hopped up onto the bench to sit with a confused-looking Tommy. "They're arguing again," she grumbled.

Jackson McCarthy

jake-gyllenhaal-source-code-still_idhi9v.jpg Jackson's bright smile steadily faded as everyone around him appeared to be uncomfortable with Fallon's presence. He traced around the group for someone to relate with, but he seemed to be the only one at a loss. After James told Fallon it was bold of here to come tonight, Jackson tilted his head towards him and twisted his features in a confused manner. Jackson puckered his lips to say something, but his mind was completely blank. His eyes shot down to her in hopes her facial expressions would give something away, but her eyes were deadlocked on James. At the mention of the Chicago war, Jackson's eyes widened. He had no idea Fallon was connected to the Porters whatsoever. He knew very little about the Porter's experiences in Chicago, so was left in the dark regarding the subject ten years later. As Jackson followed behind Fallon and James, his addled eyes looked back to Conor for some sort of explanation.

Jackson kept his hand on Fallon's back as they walked to reassure her that he'd protect her no matter what. He had no intentions of picking a fight with his best friends, but he also wasn't about to allow any harm to come Fallon's way. He stepped into James' office behind the pair and closed the door behind them. Usually, he'd go up to the table and fill up a glass of bourbon for the two of them, but this time he just crossed his arms and leaned against the door. Not only was he tired of being out of the loop from the families past experiences, but now it involved the only woman he had ever been committed to.

"Right, someone wanna' go ahead and explain to me what the hell is goin' on?" He looked back and forth between the two of them. There was a lot of explaining to do, and while in the past he had let it slide because it didn't involve him, he wanted the full story and he wanted it right now.

Michelle had been having so much fun playing with Savvy and Emery that she hadn’t even realized that her mother, Conor and Savvy’s father had gone into the house.
When they returned to the bench she noticed the two boys and smiled as the young boy introduced himself “hi Brady, you can call me Shelly” she smile but the smile quickly fell with his next words. Conor couldn’t be her father surely? But he had been acting slightly weird around her at times. She bit her lip as she tried to brush the thought from her mind but her thoughts trailed onto Lucy, the pretty blonde they had met at the door and the expression she first wore when she had laid eyes on Michelle. Michelle didn’t know what to think and as she heard Savvy and Braden start to argue, she knew there was only one way to sort this out.

“I’m going to the bathroom, we’ll play again when I come out” she said happily with a forced grin on her face before she made her way into the house, she didn’t want the others to know that his words had effected her. Michelle made her way through the crowd finding it hard to see anyone in the sea of grownups . She felt someone behind her and turned to see a blonde girl smiling at her.

Mallory had been making her way towards her mother when she saw the little child from earlier struggling to get through the crowd. “Need any help?” She asked as she knelt down to the small girls height. “I’m Mallory” she greeted with a friendly smile.

“I’m Michelle, Can you help me find my mam” she asked the blonde girl who seemed to be friendly. The girl nodded and held onto Michelle’s hand as she guided her through the sea of people. When they reached Alex, Michelle let go off Mallory’s hand and ran towards her mother who was luckily standing beside Conor. Michelle grabbed onto her mother’s sleeve and tugged on it till she got her attention. “Mom the little boy outside told me that Conor is my dad” she stated loud enough for Conor to hear “is it’s true?” She asked, confusion was clear on her face and in her tone as she looked from her mother to Conor.

Alex froze as the words came from her daughters mouth “I .. eh” Alex looked to Conor for help. Whatever answer she would have to give now was either going to be the maker or breaker for Conor and Michelle. There was no way to dodge the question and there was no coming back from either answer.

James Porter

1519768899184-png.406329
James entered the office ahead of Jackson and Fallon, holding the door open for them to follow him inside. James turned to face the pair, standing just a few feet from them to enable him to make all of the eye-contact that was needed during this conversation. He folded his arms as Jackson demanded to know what was going on and he remained silent for a moment as he decided his friend really didn't have a clue about the complicated situation.

"Jackson, the war in Chicago has been mentioned on many occasions. The war was between the Sullivans and the Romanos. Vincenzo Romano was the boss of the Italian Mafia in Chicago. Fallon and Alex - two of his daughters." James looked to Fallon and studied her face for a moment. For some reason, he felt compelled to spare the details of the many evil acts her father had committed. If Fallon and Jackson were to push the matter, to paint James as the villain, he wouldn't hesitate to give all of the details of the monster that was her father. "The feud dated back before Vinnie had my father killed, in fact, before I was even born."

James decided to get to the main matter at hand and he could fill in the gaps afterwards. "The reason Fallon being here has gone down like a lead balloon is because I killed her dad. I may have never seen any good in the man, but he was Fallon's father and I'd be lying if I didn't expect her to hold ill will towards me. Were I in Fallon's position, I'd hate my father's killer too. In fact, I did. I hated Vinnie." James took a deep breath and reeled the explanation back in. "A little over 10 years ago, when Conor stepped down and I took over the Sullivan business, we agreed enough was enough. That family out there," he said, pointing to where the party was being held. "Lucy, Conor, Finn.. the people you call friends, Jackson. They couldn't take anything more from the Romanos. So my associates and I killed the key players in the Romano business before they could kill anymore members of the family you now protect."

Fallon felt a large lump form in her throat yet her face stayed blank and expressionless. She didn't plan her night to go this way, she just wanted to drink and have fun with Jackson. Fallon glanced over to Jackson before following James in silence, feeling everyone's gaze land on her. A wave of comfort enveloped her as she felt Jackson's hand on her back as they followed. Once the doors was closed behind them, Fallon swiftly made her way to the seat in front of James' desk, the thought of facing Jackson felt too unbearable to witness. Fallon eyed the tray filled with alcohol but decided not to rush over and gulp it down, she was better than that.

Memories crashed over her like a tsunami as James' recounted the tale, hot tears swelling up in her eyes but Fallon wiped them away before anyone could notice. Once James finished speaking, Fallon sighed and crossed her legs neatly, "I don't know whether to kill you or thank you, James," Her voice was cool and collected yet there was an underlying tone of sadness as she spoke, "You killed my father, whom I loved, but you also killed the man that forced me to live in Italy for eight years in isolation." She hummed, "But one thing for sure is I'm not like my father, and I'm not going to start trouble." Fallon stood up and turned around to face the two men with a sincere face.

Kieran Joyce
Kieran Joyce Front.jpg
When he had finished his prayers, Kieran hung his prayer beads on the chair back and stood slowly with a groan. He rummaged in his drawer and took out his letter from the diocese and poured over it again. For some reason, the letter had seared itself into his brain like it had been burned onto the grey matter with a cattle brand. He was a young man yet, and he wondered if perhaps this was the best way there was for God to use him as an instrument. After all, a deaconate alone might be even better. If he had aspired to that alone he could have married May... ah, but that ship had long sailed. He had been to her wedding. It was a beautiful reception, and he was happy for her.

But the priesthood was embattled, and they needed new priests on the front lines of an emerging cultural war within the Church. Sometimes he wished he didn't think in such grand terms, and only thought of the small and the immediate. He laughed at himself, for being such a fool. Best not to think about it. Best to focus on the matters at hand. Lucy and James need someone to assist their wedding, he could do that. He thought about going out to the countryside for a while to hunt and fish and clear his head.

He folded the letter back up as he looked out into the garden and the figures perceptible below through the window. Ciara and Eli reminded him of the danger that was attendant to being in the Porters' house. The children reminded him of the love and vitality that he sensed in his deepest being that this household imbibed. He unhitched the window latch and opened the windows, drinking in the cool Irish air off the sea not-so-far-away, towards Britain the eternal antagonist of his ancestral home. Then he looked to the west, towards America and his own home. Whence he would go from here, he was not sure, but for the next year and a half he was glad to be here, in this nation, in this house.

Conor was still looking at Finn and drinking some of the alcohol when he heard Michelle's voice coming from close by. Hearing her repeat what Braden had told her causing Conor to almost choke on his drink. He covered his mouth with his hand and managed to swallow the liquor without spitting any out. Still coughing to try clear his throat, he turned around to see Michelle holding onto her mother's sleeve. Conor raised his vision to look Alex in the eyes. Her face was pleading with him for help. In that moment, he became aware that if he lied now, it would ruin everything or at the very least, the kid wouldn't be able to trust him if the truth did come out later. Conor turned back to Finn and sent his cousin a look that suggested he hoped his own funeral would be a nice service. He knocked back the rest of his whisky before turning to fully face Alex and Michelle.

Conor scratched the back of his head before crouching down to his daughter's level. He knew she could do better for a father and he would never force her to accept him. Still, he looked the child in her sweet eyes and nodded his head. "Yes, Michelle. It's true..." he gently admitted.

Jackson McCarthy

Jake-Gyllenhaal-Source-Code.jpg

Jackson had kept his arms crossed throughout the duration of the explanation. He had been upset that his date was treated the way she was, but hadn't realized it was because of intrenched history, not for something Fallon had done. His expression softened as the story was unraveled and the complicated layers of their past was peeled. His eyes widened as James confessed to killing her father. James must've assumed Jackson was going to berate him for murdering Fallon's dad, seeing how much Jackson cared for her, but Jackson held a level of understanding. Murder wasn't an easy subject in context, but knowing James for as long as he had and able to relate to the experience of taking one's life, he knew how complex the emotions really were, even if James had hated the man.

Jackson let out an exasperated sigh. Of course his best friend had to murder the father of the one girl he truly liked. He looked to Fallon to try and see her reaction, but could only see her back. When she spoke, she sounded surprisingly calm and collected, despite her initial words. "Hey, now..." Jackson said, standing up as Fallon suggested killing him. Despite this, she seemed to come to terms with the fact that a grudge wouldn't benefit anyone in this situation. He relaxed, resting back down on the door. "Look, James, you know i'd never want to put your family in such an uncomfortable positions, same goes for you Fallon. I get you two have a lot of mixed feelings about each other, but I mean even Alex seemed to come to terms with the past."

He gingerly walked up the back of Fallon, resting his hand on her. "I know how hard this must be for you, but these guys mean the world to me. What has happened, happened and i'm so sorry it had to turn out like this. You don't know James as well as I do, and I can tell you right now, he wouldn't hurt anyone if he didn't have to, so know i'm completely sure he didn't have a choice."

James looked to Fallon as she spoke up, unsure whether she wanted to kill him or thank him. Beneath the coolness, he detected a tone of sadness. As she continued to speak in a reasonable manner, James was relieved that it was looking like he wouldn't be forced to speak of the many details of her father's acts. She was essentially an innocent, just like Sinead and Finn had been innocents dragged into a war where they were then forced to suffer. He would hate to shatter any good memories she had of Vinnie, regardless of having no respect for the man himself. When she said she wasn't going to cause trouble, James nodded his head just in time for her to turn around and see him.

James watched on as Jackson spoke up. He was glad to hear his friend understood the situation and that Alex had put the past behind her. It touched him to hear his friend defend him to Fallon; expressing that he understood the situation and that he knew James didn't just go around killing people for the sake of it. Vinnie had been the most personal kill James had ever carried out and despite his hatred for the now dead man, it was something that he often thought about. He remembered that day in fine detail and he doubted he would ever forget. He'd long since learned that he didn't want to forget as the moment he became desensitised to it would likely signal a rapid loss of his own humanity.

"Fallon, I don't wish for there to be any trouble. Things here are relatively peaceful and I want it to remain that way for my family. There are children and young adults out there who deserve a better life than we had in Chicago."

"That's right, he is fucking adorable and don't you forget it."Lucy said as she pointed a finger Peter's way, wagging it in his face as if she was scolding a child. Lucy grinned thinly, she was enjoying the moments taking place around her but she felt this ever-growing anxiety. Perhaps it was the track record of how many parties they had in the past, and how many of those ended in someone's untimely death. Lucy looked around at the people a moment, if anyone were to be taken away...she could only hope it would be herself. Not that Lucy was unhappy with her life and wanted to die, but she couldn't possibly deal with any more losses. Everything her and her family went through 10 years ago in Chicago was enough to last her a lifetime. Her hands shook slightly and her breathing started to become uneven. She was going to ruin this night with her ridiculous thinking and if she wasn't careful she would have to excuse herself for a while. Not wanting to be the birthday girl that doesn't get to express her gratitude for all her guests, she forced herself to calm and to push all those fears and anxieties to the back of her mind, at least until later on.

Locking them up tight, she continued to converse with her sister and Peter. "I may only roughen him up a bit, poor Pistol gets his feeling hurt for being called a rat." Another playful glare was sent Peter's way, laughing as he still hid behind little Sinead. "Oh come out and fight me you baby!" She teased him to which Peter childishly stuck out his tongue. "Yea right, like I'm moving from behind-HEY! NO MY PROTECTION!" Peter gasped as Sinead suddenly moved to get a better look at the both of them. The look she gave was a serious one and her eyes looked to Alex Romano. Peter looked over that way as well, wondering if Conor told Sinead about their new niece as well. When she began to speak to Lucy, it was clear that he had not.
MV5BY2Y2NTE4YzYtMTA4OS00NzNmLWIxNzctMDEyMjE2NWU3YWNmXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyODMwMzI4MTg@._V1_UY317_CR21,0,214,317_AL_.jpg
The blonde woman's stained red lips formed into a small 'o' and she couldn't believe that no one had explained to Sinead what was going on. "I thought Conor told you!" She gasped, keeping her voice down and looking over at Conor who had now been approached by Michelle, the look on the small girl's face gave a lot away in that moment. Lucy watched a moment longer before looking to her sister and Peter. "I would have told you, but it was not my place to tell...I really thought he was going to tell all of us." Peter bit his lip nervously and cleared his throat. "I was about to tell you after Lucy opened her gifts love...Conor had mentioned it to me earlier and then the kids wanted to play...I wanted you to get acquainted for a bit before coming in a dumping that on you. But she doesn't know...so you can't say anything."

Lucy shook her head lightly and sighed, her anxieties once again grasping her chest in a vice grip as she watched her brother and Michelle talk. "I'm not to sure about that last part...look." She said and nodded her head in their direction. Lucy wasn't one to make her birthday all about her, as much as everyone liked to do. She would be there for both Michelle (if she even wanted to see her now) and Conor throughout the night if they were having the conversation they she believed them to be having. "First this and now Fallon Romano is here with Jackson...well I guess its better than being shot right?" Lucy asked, dipping into the dark humor that often was left in her thoughts.

Michelle looked on as her mother hesitated to answer her. She didn’t understand what was taking so long to say no. Like it was a funny concept Conor being her dad but he was just an old friend wasn’t he.

When Conor knelt down to her level and nodded his head, Michelle’s face dropped. Not out of disappointment rather out of shock. She didn’t expect the answer to be yes. She had thought the grown ups would laugh and that would be it but no it was the complete opposite. Michelle stared at Conor for the longest time a soft smile on her lips before she looked at her mother. “Why didn’t you tell me” she hissed, clearly upset before turning around and storming off towards the garden again.

Alex watched as Conor told Michelle the truth and gauged her daughters reaction carefully. It was not the situation or environment that Alex wanted her to find out in. When Michelle stormed off clearly annoyed with Alex. Alex sighed and rubbed her hands down her face before looking at Conor “it’s me she’s annoyed with not you” Alex told him. She bit her lip before looking towards where Michelle had gone “you can come if you want” she told Conor before making her way after her daughter.

Alex found Michelle sitting down on the grass just outside of the back door. She was pulling fistfuls of grass out as she mumbled profanities under her breath about her mother. Alex just didn’t have it in her to give out to her daughter right now. Instead she sat beside her “Michelle talk to me! I thought you liked Conor?”

Michelle sighed “I do, I’m happy” she said while still staring ahead of her “but why did I have to find out from Brady?”

When Sinead instructed her to stay put, she did. As she watched the scene before her, she decided to find a bigger cup to fill so instead of the small one she held. This way, she'd get more out of her cup and be a lot more satisfied. The whole scene, the proposal, Lucy and Sinead becoming giddy about the the wedding, it was nice. Ali enjoyed watching others be happy, even if she wasn't. Although she would never admit it to anyone, one of her greatest joys was seeing people happy. But it all faded when she made eye contact with Conor.

For some reason, when she saw him with Alex and then Michelle, she felt a stabbing in her chest. She looked away from him with a frown and put her hand up to her chest. What was it she was feeling? Betrayal? Heartbreak? Whatever it was was adding on to her annoyance and anger. But for the sake of the party, for the sake of Lucy, she would keep her feelings in check. And what better way to do that than to drink until she no longer could? But, she couldn't continue drinking without a partner. That's when she spotted Montag.

Tonight she had plans on getting drunk to drown out her head and heart but she didn't want to do it alone. Plus, it'd get her out of Conor's eyesight so he could quit looking at her with that stupid smile, she thought. Making her way through the crowd, she put eyes on Leo and Delilah for a split second. She knew he was dating someone, but never knew that someone was Delilah. One issue at a time, she thought to herself. For now, she'd leave it alone but later she was going to hem him up. Weaving through the crowd, she finally made her way over to Montag and handed him a glass of what she was drinking, whiskey. "Montag, Montag, Montag. Where have you been all my life?" She joked.

MV5BMTc1OTg4MTI0MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzMzOTc1OQ@@._V1_.jpg

Leo could only smile when she agreed to tell her parents. He wasn't so sure as to how they would take it, trying to put himself in their shoes. The two of them had been dating for some time now and her parents never knew. Even his own sister didn't know they were dating. He hid it all very well, but now he was going to have to come up with an excuse to it. But those were thoughts for another time. For now, he'd watch the Porter's engagement, fingers locked with Delilah's. There was a lot happening, actually, and now that he had seen it he remembered everything Aliana had filled him in on. Conor had a kid with Alex.

It occurred to him that he never checked up on her after their awkward introduction and started looking around. If his girlfriend asked what he was looking for, he'd respond by telling her he was looking for Ali. Being as tall as he was, he didn't have to do much searching. He spotted her talking to Montag, a taller glass of alcohol in her hand. He sighed and just knew he was going to be struggling getting her to bed. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he shook his head. "Ali is going to get drunk, which means I'm the babysitter." He took a pause before looking down at Delilah, a grin creeping onto his face. "Hey, let's play hide and seek. We go hide somewhere and leave who ever to come looking for us later?"

Sinead folded her arms and adopted a diva-like posture when Lucy sounded surprised Conor hadn't told her about Michelle. "No, why would Conor tell me anything? I mean, I only let him crash at my place and dump his things all over. He manages to tell my kids how to swear too. Funny how it slips people's minds to tell me anything important," she complained. She let out an irritated sigh. "No, you're right, Luce. It wasn't up to you to tell me," she reasoned and gave her sister a kiss on the cheek. When Peter then went on to say Conor had mentioned it to him too, she quickly shook her head. "Hmm. Well he can take a hike if he thinks we're going to babysit that adorable little new niece of ours whilst he goes out and gets drunk. That big dope brother of mine has a lot of making up to do!" she ranted. It was often difficult to take Sinead's bad moods seriously as she just about never swore and her girly voice often distracted from her true feelings. But her face showed her annoyance quite clearly.

On Lucy's cue, Sinead turned to see Conor crouching down as he spoke to Michelle. "I mean, sure. Seeing him with his daughter is pretty cute and I want to squeeze that little girl's cheeks," she said, temporarily softening. "But Conor is still in for it. And you-" she said, poking Peter in the shoulder. "What do you mean you wanted me to get acquainted?! I told you before if you hear any gossip, you come tell me right away!" she said, finishing with a relenting smile.

At mention of Fallon, Sinead's face fell to a frown. She didn't want to think about that family. Not because of Alex or Fallon, but because of the terrible memories she had of their scary father and the suffering he inflicted on those she cared about.

After a while, feeling properly sobered, Kieran moved to return downstairs and rejoin the festivities. As he came back downstairs he examined everyone who was left in the lounge, but then seemed to jolt as he remembered that he had forgotten Lucy's gift. He hurriedly regained the steps and returned with a brown package under the crook of his arm and a smaller wrapped package in the opposite hand.

He pardoned the intrusion and cut into Lucy's conversation with the Callahans. Apologizing profusely he turned to Lucy, "Mrs. Porter I'm afraid I have forgotten until now to give you your presents. I did want to give them to you myself." He extended the large wrapped package and the smaller one sheepishly. Beneath the wrapping of the large one was a store-bought dress in a fairly modern style from an upscale store in New York City. The letter left inside stated it was from Kieran and his parents, and that it was intentionally a bit large so it could be tailored since they didn't know her measurements. The other package, the smaller one, was exclusively from Kieran. It was a small vial, ornate and filled with clear liquid. The top had a metal clasp and bore the engraving "amor vincit omnia" in thin gold filigree. From the Roman cross on the side, she could deduce it was a vial of holy water. That, he explained, was from himself. This she would know if she cared to open them.

Conor watched Michelle closely. Though she was clearly surprised by the revelation, he couldn't help but catch the smile that she eventually displayed after staring at him for what felt like hours. The girl then stormed outside, causing Conor to slowly get back up to his feet with a dejected look on his face. Alex reassured him that Michelle wasn't annoyed with him, but he felt like she should be. He watched Alex walk off after Michelle before turning to Finn and the others. "So, um... yeah. I have a daughter," he sheepishly told them. He then cleared his throat. "Don't drink all of the booze," he requested, before walking away to catch up to Alex and Michelle.

As he stepped outside, Conor was approached by Savannah who asked if he really was Michelle's father. He crouched to his niece's level and nodded his head. "It's true, Savvy. But I need you to keep it to yourself for now. Shelly's a little shocked, okay?" he asked. When the girl nodded, Conor gave her a quick hug and kissed the top of her head. "You go back to Brady and the others, alright?"

Conor joined Alex and Michelle just in time to hear the girl ask why she had to hear the news from Braden. "Ah, that's my big mouth's fault. I was asking Peter for his help and Brady overheard me," he explained. "Adults get nervous too, sometimes more than you kids do. When I found out you were my daughter, I wasn't sure what to do. I'm a bit of a loser, sometimes," he said, offering her a smile as he glanced to Alex.

Finn had been enjoying all of the excitement going on around him, smiling widely as he conversed with his family and friends about getting pissed tonight, in honor of Lucy of course. Luckily, her birthday was a good excuse to drink until they couldn't anymore. He watched as Conor downed whiskey he poured for himself and laughed lightly as he said he missed this. "I have too mate, it'll be nice to relax for a while!" He said looking to his cousin, implying that Eleanor and himself would be around longer than they usually were, especially if there was to be another wedding. Before Finn had the chance to say anything more, a blonde little girl found Alex and Conor with Mallory's help. She looked confused as she asked Conor and Alex if it was "true." Finn wondered what could possibly be true and who this child was as suddenly Conor bent down and nodded his head. The situation turned dramatic rather quickly as Michelle stormed off towards the outside, leaving her mother running after her.

Finn looked to Conor who stood and admitted that he had a daughter, to which Finn almost chocked on his own breath. "Y-you do!" Holy Shit!" Finn exclaimed excitedly. Conor requested that they not drink all the booze before he quickly hurried off behind the two girls who were most likely in the gardens by now. Finn looked to Eleanor with wide eyes and shook his head. "He just drops a bomb like that and expects us not to drink a lot of booze right now, I can't believe it." He said and looked back where the new family had gone. "And that must be why Alex is here..." He murmured, more to himself before shaking his head again. "Alright love, time to get these party people going." He said and winked Eleanor's way. "Ready to have some fun?"

Lucy Porter and Peter Callahan

Lucy could hear the bitterness in her sweet sister's tone and knew she was really hurt by what their brother had done, he should have told her as well. Lucy bit her lip and nodded her head as Sinead understood why Lucy hadn't said anything. Her eyes looked to Peter as he explained he had been told a little bit before this all happened and that he wanted to let Sinead enjoy the party. Lucy chuckled as her sister didn't seem to like that excuse, much rather having the gossip delivered directly to her than hearing it from someone else. Her attention was then caught by her Kieran offering her his gifts to her. Lucy excused herself from the conversation with Sinead and Peter, knowing that she should probably start making her rounds with the gift opening so that everyone could get back to the party as well. She appreciated that Kieran and his parents had thought of her and was touched by the gifts she received. "Oh this is lovely." She murmured to him as she unwrapped the dress and read the letter, she would be sure to get it tailored to her size and wear it soon. The smaller gift was from Kieran himself and she wasn't surprised it was more of a religious item. Lucy was never very religious herself but she knew that other's not in her immediate family were. It was a very kind gesture and regardless of her religious preferences she accepted it gratefully.

"Thank you so much Kieran." She said to him and leaned forward, giving him a kiss on the cheek. They were family after all, might as well start acting like it. Looking at the bottle of holy water, she wondered if this would have helped her 10 years ago. A few people in her life were considered far worse than the devil himself, maybe if she were to have doused them in holy water they would have melted before her very eyes and saved herself and her family a lot of heartbreak. She really needed to stop spending her life wondering 'what if.' She lived in the moment most of the time, but there was occasions such as this that brought her back to Chicago, in memory at least. The blonde realized she must have been awkward keeping silent now so she looked up to Kieran again. "Thank you for the toast as well, your words were very sweet. James and I are so glad to have you with us." She said with honesty. Lucy was a family type of person, the more the merrier was her way of thinking. Her thoughts suddenly went back to Eli and wondered if he was alright now, the proposal had set him off in a way that she hadn't expected...then again, she never really knew what to expect from him.

Peter raised his hands a bit as Sinead turned on him for not telling her about Conor's daughter. "Hey! Its not my place either Sinny and you know it." He said his tone trying to persuade her into seeing his way on the situation. He watched as Michelle stormed off, Alex and Conor following after her rather quickly. "Looks like even she knows now." He said, much like Lucy had. The scene that had been before him just confirming what the blonde had said. He wondered how Conor was going to hold up through this, seeing as how he looked to be discussing plans of getting wasted tonight with the old squad. If Michelle really did know, it was best for him not to drink his night away, rather he should be spending time getting to know his daughter as his daughter should be spending time to know him.

Peter sighed and looked down at his wife with a small smile. "I really am sorry my dear, next time I will be sure to come to you with all the gossip. I just didn't want to disrespect Conor in such a way, especially since it seemed like he didn't want to tell me really." He looked around at everyone conversing, music still playing in the background. He gave his wife another grin before pulling her towards where people should have been dancing. "Come on now, let me lift your spirits. You can't be all grumpy when dancing now can you?" He asked as he pulled her close to him, placing his hand on her hip and taking one of her hands with his free one.

Sinead smiled as Kieran approached them so he could give Lucy her present. She allowed her sister to leave their conversation and took a brief moment to acknowledge how sweet their religious cousin was. Her attention was then drawn back to Peter as he apologised for not telling her the 'gossip' and explained he didn't want to disrespect Conor. "It's okay, Petey. I'm just not feeling very happy, that's all," she admitted. "No fault of yours, honey."

Sinead let Peter lead her to the dancing space and he pulled her in close as he hoped to cheer her up. She mirrored him, though the hand she placed on his hip seemed to be much firmer, as though she wanted to hold him closer as they danced. Her eyes fell on Eleanor and Finn for a moment before she looked back to Peter. It felt like for every loved one that arrived at the party, her worry increased. She often feared having all of her family in the same place, like it increased the likelihood of danger. "I don't want to be grumpy, no," she told him.

"Where are the kids? I was thinking of asking James if they could sleep here tonight, so both of us can stay at the party later," she said, biting her lip as she was hoping she wouldn't have to leave whilst everyone else was having fun. "Besides, I quite fancy going for a swim later," she deviously told him, thinking of the indoor pool at the Porters' house.

"Of course, I could bare to not have gotten you something," Kieran said with a tired smile. "And your husband's proposal was a very affectionate gesture. I respect that in a man; one who has a good sense of the gravity of the marital covenant and all of that." It was clear that his waking up at 4 AM that morning was beginning to catch up with him and he seemed tired and run-down. "Well, I'll take my leave of you, cousin. I would like to go have a smoke."

Saying this, he bowed his head slightly and removed himself from their presence again. He had been chain-smoking that evening, and he thought perhaps that his body was subconsciously craving it to stay awake. He certainly didn't want to seem like a lightweight by going to bed early, even though he would have really liked to. He went out to his rented Bentley and took a copy of the Sunday Independent newspaper and then into the garden where he saw Eli and his date, both of whom he consciously avoided, and found his bench where he had fallen asleep last night. He lit a cigarette and opened the paper. Maybe the cold air would liven him up and keep him up at least until midnight.

Alexandra and Michelle Romano
Alex didn’t know what to say in that moment, how do you explain the situation to a ten year old girl. She knew it was no ones fault that Braden had known and it wasn’t braden’s Fault for saying it, he’s only a child himself. As Michelle waited for an answer that Alex couldn’t figure out, she heard Conor arrive just in time.

Michelle looked up when Conor spoke to her and raised an eyebrow at his words “adults get nervous too?” She asked looking to her mother for confirmation. Alex gave her a nod as she watched Michelle smile at the idea “more than kids?” She questioned a humorous smirk on her face, now that was good information to have for a later date.

His next words however made her drop the smile and instead a thoughtful look took over her features, if you looked close enough you could almost see the gears turning in her head. Her hand reached up to hold onto the necklace as she thought about what he could mean, unable to come up with an answer herself she looked to Conor with an innocent look “what do you mean found out?” She questioned. How could he not know his own daughter?

Alex cringed to herself at Michelle’s question, she could guess pretty easily what was going through their daughters head. Alex noticed her hand on the necklace and looked up at Conor awaiting his response. He dug this hole so he could get himself out of it now.

Conor was at first a little puzzled and unsure what to say when Michele asked what he meant by finding out about her. As he saw his daughter holding the necklace he'd given to Alex, he realised he'd said the wrong thing. Alex had told Michelle that her dad had to leave to help his family. He wasn't sure what he could say now that would put things right or get them out of this awkward situation.

"I had to leave a long time ago. I never thought I'd get to see either of you again." Conor wasn't sure what he was doing. He didn't know what he was meant to say to confirm anything Alex had told their daughter in the past. Perhaps a small lie now wasn't so wrong, not if it secured what Michelle had believed all of this time and protected her from heartbreak. "When I saw you yesterday I was shocked. I didn't think I'd ever get to see you and I asked your mum to give me some time so I could do this properly." He pointed to the necklace and smiled. "Do you like it? I picked that one myself."

Jackson McCarthy

23_jgyllenhaal-silo_250x375.pngJackson nodded subtly as James spoke, looking back to Fallon. "Come on," He softly took the corner of her hand, pulling her into him. He wrapped his arms around her waist and hugged her tightly. He knew her fighting spirit, this wouldn't be easy for her to overcome. She would though, she had to. Her and Jackson had an on and off history, but he couldn't lose her and he sure as hell wasn't about to let her go.
He lightly pressed his lips against her cheek, before releasing her. Gently holding her hand, he nodded to James that she'd be okay. As they walked out of the door, Jackson squeezed James' shoulder in a loving manner.

He gingerly guided her through the sea of guests and moved towards the open dance floor. Jackson slowly turned to her with a compassionate smile, placing his lips upon hers. Just as he intertwined his fingers with hers and guided his other hand to her back, the pin on the record player shifted to 'End of the World.' Other couples joined in, occupying small spaces on the floor. He rocked back and forth with her in a gentle sway. Jackson rested his head against hers, looking off down at their feet. He frowned lightly with a sigh, before meeting her gaze. "Not gonna' lie, wish I knew about this... All of this." His frown twisted into a smirk as he shrugged. "I know I haven't always been there, but I love you. You're the first girl who's ever heard that from me, and you'll probably be the last." He knew it was a risky move being this vulnerable in front of her, but his feelings were sincere; he thought she had the right to know. "I know this'll sound rather sappy, but before I met you, I didn't believe settling down was right for me. When I first met little ol' Fallon... This dopey girl wearing' a wig that hardly fit." He chuckled as he reminisced with her, "I knew I was doing something." He winked to her and smiled, before leaning in to kiss her once more.

"Shit.." Rudy muttered silently to himself as his eyes fluttered open and fixed themselves on the clock above the mantle of his apartment. "I'm late, so fuckin' late," he repeated to himself aloud as he hopped off the couch and stretched quickly from his nap. He had come back from work around 1 PM and promptly laid out to take a quick nap. Now he was late to the boss's wife's party and he had said he would be there, which annoyed him. Why did he say that? Oh well, he already bought the gift.

He went into the watercloset and splashed water on his face and combed his hair back neatly, putting a flat cap on and shrugging on his wool topcoat. His apartment was dingy and quiet save for Hindenburg, his pet rat, who was actually laughing inside his cage as if he found Rudy's dismay supremely funny.

"Oh hush, Hindy. I'll mix some rat poison in with your food later," he snarked at the animal jokingly.

It was only a few minutes more he had locked his door with two separate locks and tried it to make sure it was sturdy. He went down to his grey Volkswagen with chipping paint and the motor miraculously started on the first try this time. Now he just had to beat traffic and make it up town or else get stuck in a jam, which was not where he wanted to be.

He arrived at the Porter house after dark, his rickety VW making a disconcerting cranking noise as he got it up the drive and parked it behind Kieran's rented Bentley. He wondered whose car that could be, silently to himself. He took his gift from the back, a bottle of perfume and tickets to the opera, out of the back of his car and shut the rear door with his foot, collecting himself and getting ready to enter the party.

He stepped into the lounge rather stealthily, although he was a smaller man. The phonograph was playing and the couples were dancing. He laid his gifts, which had cards with his name on them, out with the other gifts and made to leave---but then he made eye contact with James. Well, he couldn't leave now. He'd been spotted by the boss. He put on his most pleasant smile and strolled up casually to James, smiling as he did so.

"Why, Mr. Porter, how are you on this lovely evening? How is the wife? The kids?" Inquired the demolitionist, raising his hat slightly in salute.

James Porter

jui.pngJames watched the affection Jackson was displaying towards Fallon, wondering how long things had been this serious and if there was a chance his friend would soon want out of the business. It wasn't that James would ever force Jackson to work for him, but he would feel a huge hole if the guy left - on personal and professional levels. When the couple had left his office, James closed the door behind them, remaining in the room by himself. Seeing both Fallon and Alex over the course of just two days had practically dug up the past and the things he'd been doing well at keeping buried away deep in the back of his mind.

It wasn't the thoughts of slaughtering Vinnie that were causing him issue. Hell, he would never regret killing the man who had ruined so many lives. As he rounded his desk and slumped in his seat, James pulled open his top drawer and fished out the photograph of his mother and the young half-siblings he'd barely had chance to get to know before leaving Chicago. His mother, Rayna, was a good woman and one who devoted time to helping those in need. He believed she deserved a better son than him. Suffice to say, after murdering her cousin, James made his mother return to Italy with her immediate family. She lost three members of her family in one day, because James agreed to take the Romanos down. Though they had the odd phone call together and Rayna sent him photographs of his siblings, James still couldn't bring himself to seeing her again.

James reached forward for the bottle of vodka sitting on his desk. He poured the alcohol into his glass and quickly knocked the contents back, before pouring more. He needed to speak with Peter and he expected things wouldn't go down well in the Callahan house following that conversation. He knew he was going to be the bad guy in some people's eyes, especially anyone who doesn't like what he had done to Finnegan. He was also more than aware Ciara hadn't yet spoken to him yet and he had no doubts that when she did she'd be all about business. All he knew was he was grateful Lucy was out there enjoying herself with their family rather than seeing him looking so serious.

After his second solo drink, James decided to head back out to the main party. Hopefully he would be able to get Peter to one side for a private talk. Failing that, he at least wanted to make sure his lovely Lucy was still having a good time. As he returned to the party, looking far less happier than he had when his wife had said yes to marrying him again, he was approached by Rudy. "Evening, mate," he replied, with a brief smile. "Lucy and the kids are good. Hopefully still enjoying this wonderful party," he told him. "How about you? How's the painting going?"

Tommy watched as little Emery hopped up onto the bench beside him, clearly tired out from running around the garden. He thought the little girl was adorable and he'd happily spend his days ensuring she alone was safe. His focus then shifted straight ahead where Braden was now chasing Savannah. "Bang bang!" he heard the boy say as he shaped his hand to mimic a gun. This caused his thoughts to wander to the fact he had a real gun holstered securely at his waist. He hoped he'd never had to let the children see him use it, but he wouldn't hesitate to shoot anyone who tried to bring harm to them or their family. He could have got lost further in his thoughts but he was snapped out of it as Emery tapped him on the shoulder.

"Mummy said Brady can't do guns," Emery informed Tommy. "Brady! No guns allowed!" she yelled out at her brother.

"Brady, you heard the boss," Tommy followed up, ruffling Emery's curly hair. "Your parents don't want you doing that, mate. I'm not a snitch, but I can't vouch for Emmy..."

"Well, you know, I just finished that portrait that Mrs. O'Clair wanted done of her little boy and their St. Bernard. The dog stood stock still and the boy wouldn't keep squirming!" The German said with a bombastic laugh. "But I don't have any projects at the moment, other than uh, taking inventory you know," he remarked, referring to his unofficial job of inspecting the ammunition and explosives that James's men brought in from whatever bootleg arms dealers he worked with. They moved more firepower than the IRA, Rudy would wager, enough to make Customs blush a bit if they ever got wise.

Rudy looked back over the party and all the guests, a lot of whom he didn't notice. "Say, there's a lot of fresh faces here, Mr. Porter."
