506f28c938252b4b2e9e0c105978f79c.jpgName - Zonith
Age- 363
Race- Vampire
Personality-
Most of the time, Zonith could be apathetic, cynical, and threatening. Despite his outwardly cold nature, behind his exterior was hiding a fiercely loyal friend, and a man of good humour and as someone not indifferent to suffering. He is also very protective of and loyal to his friends and companions, and was willing to go to great lengths for those who mattered to him. He could be kind-hearted and caring to the people he loved. Zonith was also shown to be extremely adept at allaying intense, and at times bleak, situations and as a man who would much sooner have everyone return home than draw their swords. His lifespan made him a world-weary man, often expressing disdain and circuitous insults to those he considered cruel, foolish, etc.

Background-
Zonith became a vampire in 1658. He was 32 in human years by that point. He was dying on a battle field when the vampire approached. Cleaning up the spoils as it were. Zonith will never understand the reason why but instead of killing him off like the others, the vampire turned him. He was taught the basics of his new life then nothing. He was alone. About 70 years ago from today the world found out that vampires were real. They had done so well at hiding when a fledgling and a reporter exposed them all. Still just because the world knew, didn't mean the vampires were welcome. Trying to find a way to mean the humans in the middle Zonith started a yearly ball. Men and women willing to donate blood are invited. And those chosen to be kept are will taken care of for the rest of their lives.

Year after hear her mother applied for the vampire parties only to ever be accepted. She had to watch her mother slowly suffer when vampires could have done something about it. Her mother passed a few years back and now she is on her own. Trying to go to school with no money to her name. Feeling like it's her only choice, she talked a friend into applying to the vampire balls. Only when her friend was accepted, Katara took her place.

The sun was in the process of setting as cars started to arrive to the large manor. It looked like a remodeled fort with massive stone walls from the outside. A fine red carpet lined the walkways that lead to the giant steal and wooden doors. One by one people dressed in fine suits and elegant dresses stepped out from their vehicles. Chandeliers that once housed candles have now been converted to electric to illuminate the well maintained halls.

Each person was excited to a table with a place setting for one. On the other side sat a single wineglass infront of a chair. No expense was spared. From the table cloth, the china, and even the fine silverware. Everyone looking for the hosts only to find them absent for the time being.

Ever so softly the room was filled with the sound of distant music playing. Violins and woodwinds. Even the occasional drum, chimes, and piano joined into the symphony. Yet not a speaker or an instrument was seen. It left everyone asking where the music came from.

Katara sat quiet and calm in the limo, waiting for her turn to be let out. She was sure this wasn't going to be a problem. Her hair pulled up into a bun with a cascade of sandy blond curls falling down around her face. Dressed in a black evening gown with embroidered flowers all over it. The sleeves hung just off the shoulders giving it a very elegant look. In her hands, a white linen handkerchief that once belonged to her mother. Over and over again she unfolded and refolded it while waiting. Finally it was her turn to get out. The limo stopping at the red walkway made for the human guests. Only now that it was her turn, she couldn't get her legs to work. Butterflies took flight in her stomach as she paled a degree. Now her moment has come the fear of being discovered came to life.

What if they found out she wasn't Rebecca. That she wasn't there to simply be a donor for the vampires. Worse, what if she didn't even get to plead her case before they killed her for this. The door opened and she sat unmoving. The handkerchief now a twisted wod in her trembling fingers. After a moment a hand reached in as if to offer her assistance. "It's ok to be scared. But you've come so far. Don't waste this opportunity." A smooth voice said. The valet had experience dealing with humans and their nerves as the time came to truly face a real vampire. Katara slowly took his hand and finally stepped out. In the man's free hand was a silk and lace mask. "Please put this on. All guests must wear one." As he looked around, she noticed it was true. Everyone was given a mask.

Gently the valet helped her put the mask on then walked her to the doors. "Once inside give them your name and you will be guided to your table. Each person has been carefully matched to a vampire based on the profile you filled out." He informed her. By the time he was done talking, Katara was already being passed off to the next guide. Her rum colored lips parted to ask a question of the valet only to have someone already tugging her arm gently to keep her moving.

"Name?" Slowly she turned her green eyes to the next gentlemen who held a clipboard. "Oh. Um. Rebecca, Rebecca Milton." She answered softly praying they wouldn't know she wasn't being honest. If they had then none of the attendants showed it. "This way Ms Milton. I have your table ready." Her eyes danced around the interior of the remodeled fort. This wasn't at all what she was expecting. Then again, she really didn't know what to think about it all. From everything she had ever heard, vampires were cold, cruel, and uncaring creatures. They lived in mausoleum and cemeteries not updated places like this. Honestly she was in awe with what she was seeing. Everything had been painstakingly refurbished to keep as much of the original architecture as possible.

Finally, after what seemed a small eternity, she was seated at a table. Each table was far enough apart that no one should be able to hear the conversation of another. With the dim lighting and masks no one would know who was in the room anyway. She ordered the steak well done. The attendant nodded and headed off, leaving her alone. As far as she could tell, there were no vampires in the hall as of yet. Maybe they were waiting to make an entrance. Or maybe she had already been found out and they were trying to decide what to do? Her heart skipped at the thought. She didn't want this to be over before it began.

Once there was a person at every table the lights flickered out. Zonith walked up behind Katara and sniffed her neck then frowned. This wasn't the person he thought it would be. He was waiting for someone with AB blood. And she was O-. Subtype Ro at that. How rare. As soon as the lights came back on a vampire sat on the other side of the table. "Boo!" Zonith said softly with a chuckle. A deep voice rumbling as he spoke. "Hope I didn't scare you too bad."

Zonith leaned back in his chair as golden eyes fixed on the woman across from him. What to do? Quietly he folded his hands in his lap while he thought over his options. "My name is Zonith. And you would be?" Yes, starting with names would be a good place. Let's see how much lying the woman would do.

The waiters came out with everyone's orders, setting the meals down before each human. Then the wine glasses were filled with red wine. The humans also had a water class that was filled as well. "Please my lady, enjoy." He waved a hand at the food that was placed before her. He didn't get a plate since he didn't eat food. "Most humans say we serve some of the best food here."

For now he would be nothing but hospitable to the woman who sat with him. He must confess, she was rather fetching in that dress. The slight scent of fear she gave off was simply intoxicating. There was something else he picked up from her as well but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

The lights flickered off and she gasped. Katara drew her arms up as she twisted the handkerchief once more. Why had the lights gone out? When they came back there was a man setting across from her. Not a man but a vampire. The surprise of someone being there with his boo drew a startled "eeps" from her lips. He spoke on about not trying to scare her but it was hard to believe it was true. He wanted a reaction and he got it.

"Oh um no, not too bad." Her voice soft as she stared at the vampire. He wasn't what she was expecting somehow. She had expected a monster. Something that didn't look so human. The man before her looked like anyone else walking down the street. Outside of being a little pale complected there wasn't anything she could see that set the vampire apart.

"Oh I thought you would have known. The attendance said we were paired based on the application." Katara slowly relaxed her arms until her hands calmly rested in her lap once more. "My name is Rebecca." It wasn't Katara that was meant to be there. It was someone else. She had taken there place. So it was the other's name she would have to give.

As if coming out on queue, waiters brought trays of food. As she ordered, Katara got a well cooked steak, some sauteed asparagus, mashed potatoes, a side salad and a slice of cheesecake with shaved chocolate and slices of strawberries. It did look good. It smelt heavenly. Although it didn't escape her that he wasn't served any food. "Are you not eating?" She asked. The question out before she could think better of it. Her cheeks darkened a hair by her slip of tongue. Quietly she cut into the stake and took a bite. Her eyes widened at the taste. It was better than it smelt.

As soon as Katara chewed and swallowed, she nodded. "That is very good." A part of her was thankful for the food. For now it gave her something the focus on besides conversation. Every so often her eyes lifted to see him watching her eat. Perhaps conversation would have been better. Having him watch her was making her feel self-conscious. Maybe it was more like the rabbit that was suddenly aware of the fox that was closing in on it. Her eyes dropped to his wine. That would be a good place to start.

"So, you don't eat but you drink wine? Can you not eat at all anymore?" She wasn't sure if the question was allowed or not. However it broke the silence. Having him watch her eat was a bit awkward and somehow intimidating. She took a bite of the asparagus as she waited for a reply. All the food was delectable. Made her taste buds dance with delight.

Leaning back in his chair, he crossed one leg over the other. In the process, he draped an elbow over the back of his chair. The woman was clearly lying but he wasn't going to call her out on it yet. He wanted to see how far he could take it first. As she asked her questions, he chuckled. Amusement dancing in his eyes. "Those are some brazen questions and against the rules." He mused wanting to watch her squirm. With another chuckle, he reached out and grabbed his glass of wine and took a slow sip. "Besides, who said my glass was wine?"

He offered a toothy grin, flashing a bit of fang. Wanting to see her reaction to him. Gauge how scared she truly was. "I'm joking." He finally said softly. What reason could a woman like this have come here? "But to answer your questions. No, I don't eat food anymore. I can drink wine but it has no effect on me." He took one last sip of his drink before setting it down. Hoping she would be worried about the content of the glass now. It was wine but he wasn't going to tell her that.

"So tell me, Rebecca. What brought you here tonight?" Golden eyes danced as he watched the woman before him. She was enchanting. There was something simple and wholesome. Not the type he would normally pick for himself. There was also an enter strength, a courage there. She was scared, that much was clear, and yet she sat there as if all was right as rain. "I would like to get to know you better. After all, of all the applicants, you had me the most intrigued. I asked for you personally."
