- — brookhavenOnce upon a time, good and evil were equals, a force of nature that kept the world itself in balace. But tip the scales too far in either direction and chaos reigns supreme. No one knows exactly when it occurred, but a collection of stories soon began to circulate, fairy-tales written by someone named Grimm. Within the stories, good always prevailed and evil was cast to the shadows, princes always found their princesses, fairies were there to lend a helping hand, and witches were always defeated. Though simply works of fiction, the humans of the world were swept away by the idea that good should triumphant over evil and thus began the witch hunts.
No witch was spared, whether they truly harbored the intent to hurt in their hearts or simply wished to help others with their magic, they joined their brethren at the stake. The fairies were caught in the crossfire, the humans expected them to take the side of 'good' and if they were caught aiding the witches, they were stripped of their wings and subsequently, their magic as well.
The conflict, later written in history as the Fairytale War, lasted for a year before the tide changed. Tired of being persecuted, the witches decided that if the humans loved their precious fairy-tale stories so much, they could experience it firsthand. Humans were cursed indiscriminately, whether they had taken part in the carnage or not; their lives were never the same. The Fairytale Curse took Grimm's stories and twisted them, ensuring those cursed would never have normal lives again.
The key to breaking the curses lay in the stories that were the cause of all the conflict, but the witches burned the books to make sure the curses remained unbroken. Though some witches wanted nothing to do with the choice their fellow witches had made and banded together with the fairies to create a safe haven for those that were cursed.
Brookhaven is a cozy little town nestled at the based of a mountain, surrounded by an enchanted forest. Only those with magic or those that have been cursed are able to find the town and cross the barrier that guards its boarders. Whether they have come to try and find help to break their curse or they were ostracized by those around them and driven from their home, Brookhaven stands ready to welcome them with open arms.
coded by natasha.aboutlorespotsrules - a bit more in depthWelcome in everyone! Below I've added some more information regarding the world and the characters.
~ I am leaving it up to the player to decide what curse their character has and how the curse will be broken. The only limitation is that the curse must be based on a fairytale story. As well, it's up to the player if their character even wants to break their curse or if they just want a safe place to live. Unfortunately those that are not cursed are not allowed within Brookhaven for safety reasons.
~ Witches are not immune from being cursed. Those that opposed the Fairtytale Curse would not be spared and when cursed, their magic was sealed and they must break the curse to return to what they were before.
~ The gender of the character does not have to match the gender of the fairytale, feel free to have creative liberty over how you twist the story for the curse, within reason.
~ The setting is medieval fantasy, so high magic and low tech. While magic could be used to make life easier such as heating water or creating light, there would not be any technology.

coded by natasha.aboutlorespotsrules - the rules1. This roleplay is strictly 18+, for the comfort of myself and of others who may not feel comfortable rping with minors. Characters will also be required to be 18+ and in the case of fairies or witches who may be physically older than they look, they will be required to at least look 18+.
2. For this roleplay, we will be using realistic face claims. Written descriptions or anime/illustrated art can be used to highlight the different affects the curses might have on a character, but a realistic face-claim will need to be included as well. Non-binary, gender-fluid, etc characters are welcomed!
3. Be kind to others. This roleplay is a safe space and is LGBTQIA+ friendly. Any racism, bigotry, etc will not be tolerated and offenders will be banned immediately. If you have issues with another player, please DM me to help resolve the issue.
4. Players will be required to post a minimum of three full paragraphs for each post. Though a strict posting schedule will not be implemented, a check-in will be done if I have not heard from you in a while.
5. The limit is three characters per person, with one cursed per person. Though there is no requirement to play as a cursed character, if you want to play as three witches, then by all means feel free.
6. There is a limit to one story per character, so if someone has a character that is cursed based on Cinderella, that story would then be off limits to be used for other characters.
