Plot: You live in a mid-size city, a good hour by shinkansen or up to three hours by regular train from Tokyo. You find out that there is a nerd/otaku club that has existed for about two years now or you may already be a part of it already. Though it only has a few members. Each member is rather an average joe but has rather eccentric hobbies. They range from cosplayer to straight up chuunibyou. It is basically an escape from your crappy daily routine. Most of the members don't look like they put much effort into their looks and you think that a few could look somewhat good if they put in at least a little effort into their appearance. Nevertheless you aren't in the club for looks, but to have a group of friends like you. You are there to have a place to brighten up your day. And with enough people, you can save on group discounts during outings such as the two hour ride to Tokyo to visit Akihabara or places to do cosplay photoshoots.
Conditions for club membership:
-At least 18 years old, best at least 20 (Japanese age of adulthood and drinking age).
-Residency in the Kanuma area
-Otaku (anime, manga, dojinshi fan, cosplayer, densha otaku, etc.)
Location: Takes place in the midsize city of Utsunomiya (pop. 500,000). About a two hour train ride to Tokyo with normal train or an hour by shinkansen. Utsunomiya has a few big festivals throughout the year and has plenty of old heritage sites nearby. The mountains are near the city. The club location is at the Yanazemachi General Cultural Hall in the south center of the city.
Rules:
-Make characters with at least somewhat normal circumstances (low wage or boring job, up to middle class/not excessively pretty/not extraordinary popular). Basically you are some nobody or a barely somebody.
-In true anime/manga style, for any fast food restaurants that aren't Japanese use similar sounding names (like WacDondals, BorgerQueen, Ohio Fried Chicken). Same would be preferred for manga/anime names since it is sort of a parallel universe (so stuff like Wanpies, Fairy Bale, Jokemon, incl. That One Isekai Anime With A Title So Long That You Forgot What The Premise Was Long Before You Got To Reading This Part Of The Title)
-Don't join just because you like Japan. You might ruin it. Join if the plot interests you, not just because of the location.
-Any characters that try to stretch the rules of what is allowed will be instantly rejected. For example, if you make a fantasy character or some big idol, they will be rejected. Most popular can be for example a cosplayer or underground idol with less than 1000 followers on social media.
