A Change of Heart

Mei smiled, walking to her locker and opening it, throwing her backpack inside before grabbing her lunch and shutting the door, walking towards the outside of the school. She smiled, throwing the doors open and walking towards the base of a tree and sitting down.

Izzy and his boys took a vote and decided they'd take a walk to the Taco Bell down the street. As the group marched through the courtyard, the senior happened to notice the girl who'd been giving him shit in calculus. He rolled his eyes and glanced at his friends. Matty walked arm in arm with Brad(Izzy was sure there had to be something there), while Jesse and Mitch chatted about possibly going on a double date with their girlfriends. His gaze shifted to Gabe, who sidled up to his side.

Gabe gestured to the girl where she sat under the tree. "Dude, that Asian chick is in my second hour! She's nutters; I'm not surprised she sits alone."

Mei chuckled, hearing the voices across the courtyard. "Hello once again jock idiots. Care to infect the air more?" She asked, getting up and setting her lunch down. "It reminds me. I never got to teach you that lesson pretty boy." She said, cracking her knuckles viciously.

The brunette frowned as she stood and began threatening him as she had in class the previous hour. Instead of acknowledging her, he picked up the pace and continued across the grass and onto the sidewalk. His friends followed.

Mei smiled, watching them leave. "Finally, peace." She said, sitting back under her tree and opening her lunch. She smiled, taking out her nutella sandwich, taking a bite.

After gorging themselves on cheap fake Mexican food, they hurried back to school. Class started in fifteen, so it was not as of the group was strapped for time, but nevertheless they enjoyed a safety bubble.

Upon walking through the school's entrance, Izzy was met by his somewhat girlfriend. Her hair was pulled into a loose bun and mahogany bangs framed her delicate face. She smiled and embraced him lightly. They weren't quite official, which was fine by him, but he absolutely adored when she pressed against him in a hug and he could smell the rich scent of incense on her flannel. Sometimes he considered asking her to go steady with him. Something was just so home-y and inviting about her.

Eventually she waved him good by and continued walking with her friends, and Matty placed a hand on his shoulder. "Dude, why aren't you guys dating?"

"Why aren't you and Brad dating?" Izzy snorted.

Mei had finished her lunch and she was leaning against the wall, chewing a piece of gum. She brushed a lock of her long black hair away from her face. She felt as if she had a bubble around her, so she always had to view social interaction from 20 feet away because no one would even get close to her at this point.

Matty huffed. "Maybe we are!"

Brad looked up from where Gabe was poking his flexed bicep with an expression of terror. "Dude! I thought it was a secret!"

Mei spotted the jocks and she scoffed. She pushed off the wall and walked right past them. "What a bunch of idiots wrapped in a pretty package."

Gabe seemed to take interest in the girl as she fluttered past, and walked after her. "Hey, May, is it?" He asked with a tap to her shoulder.

Izzy just shook his head at the boy. He's probably get his ass kicked, knowing her.

He glanced at Brad and Matty. "So, wait, ohmygawd," he blinked, "Are you guys, like official?"

Mei scoffed, turning around. She grabbed Gabe's collar. "You're cute." She said smugly and tossed him backwards. "Nice try, but I don't go for trash like Jocks." She said, turning around.

"Good luck getting laid with that attitude!" Gave called out after her, his voice pained from his clearly now broken ass bones. "Bitch!"

Jesse and Izzy helped the poor dude to his feet. Once he was stable enough, Izzy ran to catch up with the girl. His brow furrowed, something it did not often do on account of his fear of premature wrinkles. "Look, May, you might not like "jocks" or whatever, but that doesn't mean you can just push around my friends. You need to go back and apologize."

Mei turned around and glared at him. "A, he was asking for it. B, I don't listen to people like you." She said "Oh yeah." She said, pulling out the gum from her mouth, she stuck it to his hair. 'Have fun." She said, turning sharply and walking back to class.

"How was he asking for it?!" He yelled after her, now fantastically agitated. She'd had the gall to stick her saliva-covered mouth grossness into his perfectly styled hair, which had taken him like an hour to get right!

He fumed for a moment before returning to his posse. "Has anyone thought to report her to the school?"

Mei smiled evilly, walking down the hall. No one was punk enough to report her, because her whole demeanor was intimidating. She opened her locker, placing her lunch inside and grabbing her books, shutting it lightly before going back to her class and shoving open the door, walking back to her seat.

Before lunch drew to a close, Izzy parted with his droogs and found himself in the school's office. He informed the woman at the front desk that he'd like to report several cases of harassment.

Mei knew with the new dude that she was going to get reported, but the office in this school never did anything.

The receptionist told him that she'd make an appointment and send a pass informing him of the details. He thanked her and headed to his next class.

Izzy walked over to his seat in the Physics class, narrowly avoiding tardiness. He plopped down in his desk, content before noticing that she was here too.

He laughed despite himself. "Your existence haunts me? Do you know how idiotic you sound?" He snickered derisively and began tapping the end of his pencil on his desk. "God, you don't haunt me, you aggravate me. I'm perfectly nice to you and you lash out at me and my friends for no reason."

He faced forward as he finished. "If you're going to continue being a jerk, then I'm not going to bother."

Mei scoffed. "Well that was very ungentlemanly. And for the record, flashing a smile and trying to make me fall for you isn't the best first impression." She said. "It just shows me that normal is obviously not in your vocabulary."
