◇ raised in the bright and cozy town of kennebunkport, maine, klaus was seen as the angelic eldest child of the local mayor, edward, and his darling wife, matilda. with five years separating klaus from his baby sister, the family of four were seen as nothing but perfect in the eyes of the little seaside town.
◇ life was normal as it could get; he and his sister would attend school, their mother would greet them with after school snacks. nothing much happened in kennebunkport, klaus' father ran the town like a tight ship, with him being captain. to young klaus, his father was the perfect role model in his life to aspire to be like.
◇ from a young age, klaus only wanted to do great things for the future, to be the good people could look to. like the comic book heroes he read late at night, and the leading men on tv, klaus watched with bright eyes and dreamed of being just like them. he worked hard in his studies, using the help of his mother's education degree, klaus stayed top of the class for most of his subjects.
◇ he was simply the perfect child, the blessing his parents' only hoped for. klaus' sister, while she was loved and cared for, simply couldn't escape from her brother's shadow. that was, until acute myelogenous leukemia became klaus' and his family's reality.
◇ klaus was only fifteen when he was diagnosed; the doctor's words melted together like disgusting butter. his mother and sister wept, his dad begging for action. klaus could only sit in silence, his hands between his thighs and lost in his thoughts. it was curable, through treatments and patience, it was achievable. but klaus' father, as loving as he was, he was also the impatient type. months of treatment wasn't what he wanted to hear. edward wanted to hear weeks, days, he wanted his son better and the only way to do it was the efficient way. ◇ klaus floated between home and the local hospital. while he began to treat the disease that grew inside of him, his father scoured for a faster way. with each day as klaus got weaker, his father became more desperate for an answer.
◇ edward's answer came in the form of a doctor from the city, a stranger to the town but with multiple degrees underneath his belt. no one in the family was certain of his history; it ranged from his time spending in childrens' hospitals to working in a testing medical facility for the government, to everything in between. still, the amount of qualifications stunned edward -- determination blinded him and asked for the doctor's help.
◇ the doctor agreed, and klaus blindly listened to his father. the doctor took klaus' blood samples, through multiple blood tests and other, perhaps unorthodox, experiments, the doctor found the cure to help klaus rid of the disease. in a small vial, the solution to the thurmans' problems was just in their grasps. edward didn't hesistate, and klaus listened. but, like anything when cutting shortcuts, everything came with a terrible price.
◇ while klaus' hometown was beautiful on the outside, the one thing most of the civilians who lived in the town had in common was their bitterness towards powers, superheroes and mutants were only allowed in children's comic-books and shows, and even then some were unsettled by the thought. klaus' father's campaign thrived off being anti-powered, and between choosing his family and his career, the latter always came first.
◇ it was a slow build for the male to realise what had happened. the immature white blood cells in his body disappeared, like the doctor promised, but they were replaced with another type of cell. mutant cells; the awful, sick kind that made his father's blood boil at the thought of them. edward thought mutants acted superior because of their unfairly given gifts, and now, his son was the kind he called a 'monster'.
◇ it was a quiet night-in, one of the rare times edward wasn't busy in his study and the family were together for once. klaus still remembers the smell of his mother's cooking drifting into the living room, while he and his sister fought about what movie to watch. it was suppose to be a normal night, until the smoke alarm went off by accident. the first time klaus faded was pure pain, as if the cancer he fought against returned in a stronger form. he cried for help, and his sister's shriek brought their parents' into the living room. while his mother drowned into a state of panic, his father had a wave of realisation crash over him.
◇ a monster, klaus. you absolute freak. his father yelled behind the closed study doors. there wasn't a way to contact the doctor again, leaving the town without a trace. after that night, klaus' father ordered him to pack his things and leave, sending him off with enough cash to start a new life far away from maine. heartbroken, the rose-coloured glasses klaus saw the world through shattered with the sound of his father's voice. he did what he was told and took the first bus to new york, leaving his old life behind with an emptiness that was still unfulfilled.
◇ eighteen and with hardly any experience, klaus found himself working odd jobs during the day to help him survive through the night. no one really wanted to hire a kid with no recorded past, klaus was a stranger without anything connected to him. while some saw it as a disadvantage, klaus saw it as a chance to reinvent himself as someone new, someone better.
◇ daredevil didn't come to light until he was twenty four. during that time, klaus found those who were like him, who shared the same burning passion to show those who were special like them weren't monsters. klaus first started as a training hitman, under the wing of sketchy, makeshift father-like figures, the male made good money through dirty jobs no one particularly wanted. his talent was hunting down those who had opposing views about those with powers and while it gave him adrenaline, it didn't feel impactful.
◇ by the age of twenty four, klaus decided to take his issues to the streets and lead the cause himself. the destruction was only minor problems to finding a solution in his eyes. heroes, monsters, humans - to him it was all just a matter of semantics. plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human. if he had to be labelled a villain to find equality and for what is right, in his eyes, then call him the absolute worst.

◇ metal manipulation: klaus can bend, shape and manipulate metal through a form of a telekinetic connection. while he cannot generate metal, the environment around him suits klaus' talent perfectly and he thrives in the urban jungle setting. he's able to lift to some extreme weights depending on his focus levels and the strength of his mental state. the more emotional he becomes, the more reckless his abilities react.
◇ (minor) intangibility: due to the change molecular structure of klaus' body, he can alter the state of his being to be intangible for a few seconds at a time. during this change in state, klaus feels nothing but pain, as it returns him to the sick state he began in the first place, and can't last long without feeling like his whole body being engulfed in sharp pains.
