  • So how are new mods chosen? Do the people who choose just comb the site and select whoever they think the biggest boy scout is?
Can somebody explain to me why we use Guy Fawkes masks as a symbol of protest? The man was a frikken idiot.

This could also be the answer to BackSet's question. 😂
Americans love stories about scrappy underdogs overcoming bigger, more powerful enemies, because that's what we once were (yes, Britain, that's what happened. Live with it) but now we fail to realize that we're the bigger, more powerful enemy now.
So a Christian, an Atheist Vampire, and a Native American walk into a bar.

No seriously, that's the plot of my most recent story idea. Well, minus the bar.

Honestly, you could take any book and turn it into one of these types of jokes.

"Three wizards walk into a school." -Harry Potter

"Two Demigods and a Goat Boy walk into a summer camp." -Percy Jackson

"A boy genius and a fairy walk into a criminal underworld." -Artemis Fowl

And, of course, a joke by the characters themselves

"An Atheist and a Muslim walk into a Pagan Afterlife." -Magnus Chase
Types of characters/roleplayers you'll see on RPN #3

The furry. Now, I do not have problems with furries as people. As long as they're not endangering themselves in pursuit of their hobby (is it a hobby? Or is it a lifestyle like veganism?) I think its perfectly cool. However, the specific type of character/roleplayer I'm talking about always makes an anthropomorphic animal (which can be different from a furry depending on who you ask but "anthropomorphic animal" as a name doesn't quite roll off the tongue) as their character, even in roleplays where it makes zero sense. My man, my woman, my non-gender conforming person, this is an rp set in modern day New York City! There are no talking foxes that walk upright! Please stop!
Types of characters/roleplayers you'll see on RPN #2

The psychopath. This character is exactly what it says, a psychopath. This, in and of itself, is not a problem, assuming the psychopath can be written well. What is the problem is that the player makes them a hero. And not in a twisted "I think I'm the good guy" character examination thing, they just make them a hero and think that them murdering and being a sadistic jackass to their hearts content is okay and nobody is going to have a problem with it. Also, they might romanticize it but I don't have experience in romance rps so I couldn't tell you.
If I had a nickel for every time a science fiction plot could have been solved with 21st century tech... I guess I could buy a candy bar. And, of course, the idiotic choice of using force field doors in prisons instead of regular old bars, not to mention hooking them all up to the same power grid.
Types of characters/roleplayers you'll run into on RPN #1

The introvert. This character has an extreme aversion to interacting with other characters and actually roleplaying with them is generally a chore because of that. There are two subtypes of the introvert.

The Antisocial Edgelord. This character is a cynical jackass who is annoying at the best of times and downright insufferable at worst. Sometimes they have a tragic backstory to justify their behavior, other times they're just assholes.

The Wall Flower. This character is quiet and scared of basically everything. Sometimes, they're cute but most of the time they're just annoying. Again, sometimes they have a tragic backstory to justify their behavior, other times they're just Bernadetta but terrible.
    Idea
    Idea
I think a big part of why these characters tend to have the issues they do has to do with the players using them more because they feel the character is more relatable to themselves that way (or in some cases think “I’m shy/a loner” is enough of a flaw to make a character not a Mary Sue by itself), and less because it is a character that they are actually capable of playing. Playing a character that doesn’t by themselves interact with others requires a degree of skill, specifically skill when it comes to developing ideas for solo posts and/or for creating reasons for the character to come out of their shell.

The character type can really work, but al too often it’s used by people without them considering how the traits might fare in practice.

    Exactly.

I was just giving the simplified, snarky version for comedy but as someone who plays such characters myself, I understand the nuance required to play such a character well.

My solution: make them the comic relief butt-monkey.

    • The Law of Comments Section Disgust: Any user who complains about a comment below a Youtube video will inevitably be informed that reading the video's comments section in the first place was the problem.

It's like a regular rp except all the words are taken out.

    Basically it goes like this...

Character B: *Action or something* says another thing.

Precision is the ability to hit something in the same spot multiple times, not the ability to hit something in the spot you were aiming at (that's accuracy) so technically Obi-Wan was correct when he said Stormtroopers are precise.
    • Wikipedia Inaccuracy Defense: If a user disproves another user by linking a Wikipedia article, the user being disproved will inevitably try to invalidate the disproval by saying that Wikipedia is almost never accurate and a bad source, ignoring the fact that Wikipedia has a very active and fact-check happy userbase who are quick to clean up messes.

    THANK YOU

It always pisses me off whenever someone says that. Sure, you probably shouldn't rely on it as your only source for serious research, but... Only because you shouldn't have only one source in the first place

New idea: I break into people's homes, but instead of stealing things I make things ever so slightly cleaner and leave behind an air freshener as a sign that I was there.
