"It's not about the odds, it's about the stake." I see some of your points but remember I'm talking about what if scenario, not mention but I'm guessing that their might, key word MIGHT, be a group of survivors that may try to attack us, so therefore a few of my points will be made. Secondly, I know about 1911 being singe bolt action, however you are assuming that I always run and jump in the zombie apocalypse, which is not the case. If I'm in this rp, I always go sneaking while carrying only one of the 1911 while I'm on a scavenging run. I only use two 1911 of I'm moving somewhere, or I'm planning an attack I'll carry these two in my hands. Remember that I'm not really always on the move I have a cabin, I'm not really always carrying the 1911s. I usually set them on a safe case when I'm home. Plus the weapons will most likely change, the reason I state these weapon on the character sheet is because the character I build just so happened to current have those two guns.Tombstone said:I'm typing on my phone so please bare with me.
I seriously wouldn't do it even then, especially if undead are the enemy. It's practically impossible to shoot those famed things like that. The only way it might work, is if it's within ten paces of a living target. Even the best wouldn't be able to pull off headshots.
As far as using it as a back up gun.....unless you don't need more than just a few extra shots I wouldn't go for it either. I understand 100 percent that there is no faster reload than a second weapon.....but there are a few things you need to remember. You won't be able to get rid of that first gun very quickly. Most speed holsters are only meant to be quick on the draw and sacrifice reloading entire. Hell all semi auto holsters are more or less like that. Now add on the fact you increase the length of the gun drastically with a silencer and that all of your focus will be on using the second pistol. Getting rid of the gun will be practically impossible without dropping it. Why is this important? Because wont be able to reload either if both hand are full.
But let's go more in depth. 1911's can only be carried with around in the chamber if the hammer is cocked. They are a single action pistol (I hope you know what that term means.) This
Basically means that one jolt could break the sear engagement and cause the damned thing to fire (While common, it does happen and don't count on the safeties helping this.) Chances are you will be doing a lot of running and jumping in a zombie apocalypse, so it's not the best way to carry it. The safest way would to be without a round in the chamber. Meaning you have to rack the slide in order to get it to fire. You can't rack it with another gun in another hand. Also the guns are built only for right side shooters. So you could work the mag release either. Plus
You would also be trying to use your weak hand unsupported at the most critical moment. Trust me when I say it won't work.
there is a lot more I could go on about and touch on but can't since I'm away from a proper keyboard. The point I'm makeing, you have the wrong setup. In your situation, just go for the mag reload. It literally takes 2 seconds (for me at least. I barely even practice that discipline.) Trying for a second gun (especially a 1911) would just over complicate things. If you still want to go that route try a double action pistol or revolver. Even then I'd still say no. The absolute best way would to just have a good tactical rig with several mags.
The reason I am getting into this is because for the most part were keeping to te realm of realism. We don't just want 20 doctors or tactical experts running around. This isn't a simple RP. We don't want the sole purpose of the RP being let's just go kill a bunch of crap. If you want your character to be an expert with firearms, then you should no a good deal about how to actually use them so it fits. If you don't know what you are doing then you shouldn't reall build a character around that.

For evryone here, I recommend watching some of the following video. This man, Jerry Miculek, is at the top of the shooting worlds a list. Watch how he works, look at his techniques.
