Your Guardian

He was snapped out of his daze at the question.

"Oh, to a café I always go to kind of close to my place....there's open mic night and I'm singing....." Declans words trailed off into a mutter. That last part was kind of embarrassing. No one knew he sang and played guitar, let alone enjoyed something like that.

No one he knew came to that café, so it was something he could enjoy in life, other than sleeping. The people there loved his music and voice, so they always expected him on Thursday evenings. Declan totally forgot about what places to show her, he figured Saber didn't mind though.

Saber starting patting her thighs excitedly. "Wow! I didn't know you sang and play guitar.. Then again I just met you today, so I don't know a lot of things about you." She was only given such little information when she was assigned to him and learning things about him really did make her happy. "I've never been to a place with open mic before."

Declans face felt hot with all this embarrassment. He wasn't used to being talked to or letting people know about himself.

"I go every Thursday..." Looking down at his hands and hiding them inside his hoodie sleeves, he scoffed a bit.

"It's fun, lots of talented people."

The bus was nearing the stop soon and he didn't even notice it being so caught up in an actual conversation with someone.

"I'm sure you have loads of fun. I'm look forward to seeing you sing!" She wanted to keep asking him question, but she felt she'll be drowning with her constant questioning. Saber turned gaze towards the front of the bus, noticing some people getting ready to get up.

"Ah...yeah.." Declan smiled shyly hearing that comment.

"Oh! Here lets go, it's our stop.." They both got up and exited the bus into a bustling downtown area, definitely different from where his school was.

"It's only a bit more of a walk.." He pointed towards where the café was and glanced at Saber from the corner of his eye.

There were some Christmas lights already set up, giving off an early winter vibe.

"Wow.. Those are sure pretty." She was looking at the Christmas lights in awe. "They didn't have those back then.." She whispered to herself. She shook her head to release her from the daze she was in. "What are you going to sing? Or is that going to be a surprise?"

"Ehh, it's just a song I've tried to write on my own, it's not very good but some people seem to like it there..." He snickered, blushing and looking away.

"You should go up and do something when were there.." Declan glanced back at Saber, a small smirk forming on his face.

"It must be good if people like it. I think you should be proud of that." She walked with a small hop. "I don't really have anything planned, but if you insist maybe I will." She looked rather nervous, but brushed it off, deciding might as well do it.

When they arrived at the café, Declan opened the door for Saber and followed her in.

It was quite the place. White lights were strung around inside on the walls. Few people were there but the person behind the counter waved to Declan and smiled. He waved back then lead Saber to his favourite place to sit, off by the window in the corner.

Sitting down he took off his bag and placed it on the ground next to him.

"Umm...I'm going to go order something what w-would you like? There's lots of sweets here..."

"A cupcake would be nice. Thanks." She smiled. She looked around the cafe, enjoying the lighting and how cozy it was. She turned away and stared out the window, watching people walk by. She wondered how many were guardian angels that were here. Her eyes flickered over to something dark, out of place and definitely not human.

"A-Alright..." He got up and walked to the counter and ordered his things. Leaning against the ledge, he opened his flip phone—no messages as usual. With a sigh Declan looked over at Saber and noticed she seemed a bit unsettled. It made him nervous hoping it wasn't his fault.

The worker gave him everything and he walked back to the table.

"Uh, here I got you this." A small cupcake with white frosting and a small, pink star cookie topping it off. Declan sat down with a hot chocolate and brownie, usually he got way more but he was really shy to eat in front of her.

"Everything okay? I mean..I hope it's not me...I—"

Saber hesitantly tore her eyes away from the dark figure, looking down at the cupcake. "Thank you." She took the star cookie off holding it between her fingers. "Everything's fine! It's not you." She dipped the cookie into the white frosting. "I just... Thought I saw something.." Saber took a glance back at the spot the figure was at, but only to find it was gone.

So far this girl was really perky but to see something disturb her like this made Declan nervous again. He turned his head, looking out the window, not seeing anything specifically weird.

"You sure...?" There was a nervous smile on his face after he turned back to face Saber.

Maybe him singing soon would cheer her up, although he was extremely scared to do so. For the first time in a while he had stage fright. All because of this random girl be met today, the world has a strange way of doing things.

"I'm positive!" She gave him a thumbs up, before eating the cookie that was covered in frosting from the cupcake. "When are you going to go up?" She asked, after swallowing her food.

"Oh!" He realized it actually was around the time ge usually does. He likes to do the opening.

Declan stood up and took his hoodie off, revealing a white t-shirt with red trim.

"Be right back.."

He hurried off to somewhere behind the small curtain backdrop that was set up for the night. Back there he grabbed an acoustic guitar and began tuning it a bit. If he brough his actual guitar everyone would probably laugh at how bad of shape it's in.

Coming out from behind the curtain he grabbed the mic stand, introducing himself.

Saber gave him a thumbs up once he walked out onto the stage. She was excited to hear him sing, but she, however, kept her guard up. Seeing that she had lost track of the dark figure, she was sure it would be heading for him.

"Well...uhh my names Declan and I'll be singing a small song by myself...sooo enjoy.."

You could clearly tell how nervous he was this time. Placing the strap around his neck he began playing.

It was a song that was about love. An easy topic to write about, even for the inexperienced lovers—like him.

Every now and then between glances he would look over to Saber and get nervous all over again. His notes were almost all perfect and his voice was okay too.

Saber had her attention on Declan, but a movement to the side of the stage had caught her eye. Saber had gotten up abruptly, making a dash towards it, jumping over tables.

Declan was just finishing his song when Saber started running around like a crazy person.

He finished quickly, placing down his guitar then walking off at the side. Feeling really embarrassed that the first person he brought here was causing a ruckus.

The first thing he was going to do was see what she was doing but he seen her coming that ways anyway.

Saber skidded to a stop in front of the figure. It was definitely huge, towering over Saber with red eyes, malicious smile. It was focused on Declan, but had Saber blocking its way to him.

"Wha..?" He watched Saber look at something, but couldn't see anything. Looking around awkwardly he began walking towards her and the figure closer.

"U-Um...everything okay..?" With a sheepish look on his face he glanced around at the people staring then back at Saber.

He got even closer to them both.

"We need to go." Saber didn't spare him a look, her stare was fixed on the figure. Too many people can't risk.. She turned on her feet grabbing Declan's hand, making a dash out the cafe. She took a glance behind her watching the figure push through all the tables, opening its mouth to make deafening scream. "I'm so sorry I ruined your performance."

He followed her without reluctance, although confused about what was going on.

"It's okay— just hold on a sec..." Declan took Sabers hand of his and quickly grabbed his things.

"What's even going on?" Getting frustrated and following her out.

"You don't see it..?" Saber trailed off, realizing what she was saying. Of course he couldn't see it, not many humans can. She looked lost for words, not knowing how to explain it without sounding like she was crazy. "There's this thing... And.. It's really bad and it wants to hurt you and ..." She was fumbling over her words making her stop talking for a moment, giving him a distress look. "I'm just trying to protect you!" She practically yelled, pushing him away as huge claws came barreling down.

"Wait—Saber..slow down!" Before Declan could actually try and get her to explain things clearly, he was shoved backwards almost losing balance.

He looked at Saber frustrated, because he was so confused. About to give up, Declan quickly put his hoodie back on since it was cold out and walked back towards her.

"Protect me..?" He had no idea where the figure was or what it was trying to do.
