Your Favorite(or prefered) Exalted martial arts style

I actually really like the Crimson Pentacle Blade Style.  It is, perhaps, the only MA style I can truly dig as a competitive style.  Whereas masters of the Celestial and Sidereal styles are downright rare in the world of Exalted (taken on a personal scale), users of Terrestrial styles are far more plentiful.
I also think Crimson Pentacle is extremely flavorful, especially in the way the five postures are described.  It is also downright cool in that it is specifically designed for group combat hinged towards the Terrestrial Exalted, who are supposed to be masters of fighting in force.

Granted, the charms are not...good.  Not at all.  Still, they are pretty potent for say, a God-Blood of some variety.
And since their defination of spears / pole arms are rather loose, you can actually use it in conjunction with 5 Dragon Style or Jade Mountain Style and STILL stay in the style weapon... ^_^ ;

I also would like to note that the Protocol system in Crimson Pentacle is SCARY.... especialy if you have celestial MA or sidereal MA in the protocol.

Indeed.  In fact, a character I just made is using the Crimson Pentacle Blade Style, but will also fill some defensive gaps with 5 Dragon Style until he manages to get initiated into a powerful Celestial Style...a 6th Immaculate Style.  Dun dun dun!

I know that the charms in it are overly expensive in a world of automatic and perfect defenses, but I've always been fond of Citrine Poxes of Contagion Style. The Terrestrial and Celestial styles all seem so straightforward, Charcoal is simply overpowering, and Prismatic is more of a toolbox style than Snake is, and that's saying something.

A thematic, Sidereal style which is as customizable as one can write diseases for it, without being packed with combat bennies...

Jade Mountain Style.  It is the only style that can be fully learned by UnExalted Mortals and God-Blooded.  I tend to like the other Terrestrial Styles better than the more 'advanced' styles, as their power is directly governed by your spiritual development.  After all, Ghosts and Essence Channeler can master any Terrestrial Martial Art Style.

well I know some folks dont like these but I think for me its a tie between Courtesan and Reighteous Devil- i think these 2 really define martial arts in this game and are good examples to anyone trying to make your own style- it really shows martial arts in exalted as not about Karate chops and flying kicks at all- they show how a MA mentality can apply to almost anything. I think that they are a better example of this than even the Sidereal styles we have so far although I would like to try my hand at making a Sidereal MA But I have to come up with a good Sutra to go with it

i have to say also that ireally like Courtesan because its the power used by Kagero of the Koga Ninja in Ninja Scroll ( if you havent seen this go buy it, its tied with Bloodlust and Akira for best Anime Ever)

Also Reighteos Devil (as i have said elswhere) is reminiscent of my favorite characters from Final Fantasy, the anachronistic gunslinger is a great idea for any of you creative types who get thrown in a circle that you feel is kinda dry

My favorit Normal Celestial style is Tiger style, on the other Hand I'd rather Have Prismatic Arrangement of Creation Form.

I'm with Silence in Daylight with the whole Citrine Poxes of Creation thing, though I love Charcoal March of the Spiders.

Celestial Monkey all the way. Fun all on its own and if you happen to learn PAoC on top of it youre using every martial arts Charm in the game with whatever you want to. Spine shattering bite with a grand goremaul anyone?

The problem with Celestial Monkey is that you can't have a Virtue above three and use it.  That means that if you are an Eclipse or Moonshadow, you can't learn a lot of the more useful Spirit or Ghost Charms.

Which is a stupid mechanic. The ostensible reason for this limit is that you must be "balanced" to practice this style. How does limiting all of your virtues to 3 guarantee balance?

What if my stats looked like this:

Conviction 1

Compassion 1

Temperance 1

Valor 3

Is that balanced? No, but it's perfectly legal for Celestial Monkey Style. Lame.

If they insist on putting a limit on this Style, it should be something like: The character's highest Virtue cannot exceed his lowest Virtue by more than 1. THAT would guarantee balance.

I prefer the one I just wrote up.  Way of the Exalted Fist style Martial arts.

It's ahybrid of the many styles in Exalted along with some DBZ inspired Moves. Don't think it's cheesy folks, The best stuff is the Highest level stuff and it would take a good long time in game play to access it

The favourite style I've ever used it Prismatic Arrangement of Creation style... man that's some good stuff

Violet Bier of Sorrows plus Mantis.  I'm not all that concerned about form weapons when I get +10 to all clinch and wrestling checks for the scene, on top of Mantis's already-crazy grappling.

For crazy-ass Charm descriptions: tie b/t Righteous Devil and Dreaming Pearl Courtesan.  Because the Azure Abacus is some of the strangest, most impressive shit I've ever heard of... equalled only by the peak Charm of Pearl Courtesan.

For raw power: the utterly twinked-out, busted, and otherwise broken Prismatic Arrangement of Creation.  SICK SICK SICK is the little monkey who decided you could use this style & invoke 2-5 form Charms.

For Exalt-type appropriateness: Hungry Ghost.  It's weak as fuck mechanically until you max it out, but all the powers make sense and the descriptions are pretty good.

And yet I have this strange fascination with Water Dragon Style... I think Flow Reversal Strike and Bottomless Depths Defense are what did it to me.

And just for the record: although I've only skimmed it, my preliminary assessment of Jade Mountain is that it's fucking dumb.  Who the hell wants a marital arts style whose underlying mentality is "stand there and take it"?  Fuck that.

You guys were killing me, by the way, with all the righteous hatred of the Swiss and whatnot.

Prismatic Arrangement is just... asswhoop in MA form :P

It's got charm and spell cancellation, huge dice pool boosts, huge soak powerz, super-attracting powerz... I mean it's just...*falls off chair in orgasmic glee at remembering how fun it was to use*

I know this is a late reply and all...

The text says you can't have a virtue over 3 -while- learning it. Nothing about -using- it.

So, your virtues are 3 and lower, while you learn it... after finishing that style, you boost it all the way up. And you can still use the style.

That's the thing, however; Any storyteller who lets you say "Yep, I'm gonna go boost my compassion now. I'll practice caring about other people!" deserves a horsewhipping. And then you deserve a horsewhipping. And then, for good measure, I recomend horsewhipping everyone else in your gaming group.

Although it's not explicitly spelled out in the rules, I feel you should always have in character reasons for increasing any of your virtues; it doesn't just come from xp, but from *experience*.

I'm fond of Air Dragon Style myself... Five Dragon is a close second.

I was never all that jazzed about 5 Dragon, but in the last session of my game, an unarmored DB 5 Dragon stylist managed to last about 5 turns against the two PCs, a Lunar in DBT and a DB Water Dragon stylist, each with about 100 XP. He even managed to deal some damage. I was impressed.

Yes, and that was unarmored. The style itslef has no armor restrictions. Imagine if he was wearing armor.

While the offense in theat style leaves a bit to be desired, the defense can get downright horrid, espically when it comes to soak, as the basic reflexive defense charm is a soak adder.

He was running for his armor when the PCs ganked him :)

Well there you go. Smarter PCs than mine. Mine let them get into the Warstrider first...

ANd just realized I already posted to the Elemental level. At the Old EC I was at rank 2 (forget the name, Little God I think... ).

Mantis style, all the way! It just screams awesome.

I wonder what style the 'First and Eternal Jah Kee Chan' uses? The 'Armour of God' style?
