Jae released a soft sigh before turning around, resting his elbows on the top of the bar. His eyes began to drift around the room, searching for any familiar faces (or characters, really) that he could introduce Cami to – you know, to get the real Strip Club experience and thrill.

However, his attention was drawn back to the said girl as she asked him a question regarding what he did here other than drink and eat. The boy scrunched his face up with a devilish smirk before turning around to face the front of the bar once again. He rested his elbows upon the top once again before cocking his head to the side to look at Cami. “You’re itching to know, aren’t you? Are you an undercover cop and you’re wired to get me into trouble?” he asked with that cocky grin on his face.

Jae released another sigh before speaking. “Alright then… I guess I can use codewords…” he huffed before thinking about all the different activities a mafia member might get up to in this strip club. “We have meetings with Suho… Umm… we have… conversations… with people in the backroom… Sometimes those conversations can get a bit… crazy and they turn into… lets call it singing with them.” he could hear Leeda give a snort as he used the codenames. Obviously conversations was beating someone up until they told the truth and singing was just the next level of torture to get what they needed.

He scratched lightly behind his head, tilting his head to the side as he tried to think of what else they did at this fine establishment. “Suho has a party and orgy room downstairs” he said all the sudden, without even thinking about using codewords “Oh- I mean… uh… Suho has a… playroom downstairs? Shit, that sounds gross now. We don’t touch kids here, I swear.

You’re just digging yourself into a deeper hole, Jae-Hyeon.” Leeda announced to the boy, placing down their drinks in front of them. For Cami, her whisky. For Jae, his usual Denros Strong Rum. She lazily looked at Jae, clicking her tongue against the roof of her mouth before speaking. “I’m assuming I’m putting this onto Suho’s tab?

Ahhh, Leeda. You know me too well.” Jae responded with a wide grin, reaching over for his drink. “Suho is yet to tell me how he’s paying me for this babysitting job. So make sure you give a lot of people free drinks tonight on me. But… on Suho’s tab.

Ya! You really want to die before you’re thirty, don’t you?

You gotta go at your prime, as I always say. If I was to die today, thank God it’s while I’m on the top of the rollercoaster and not at the bottom”” he responded before taking a sip of his drink.

You’re a real crazy mother fucker” Leeda hissed at the boy in Korean, shaking her head and rolling her eyes before walking away from them.

Saranghae-yo!” Jae chimed back at Leeda, placing his drink down and placing the tops of his fingers on top of his head to create a love heart form with his arms. Releasing a soft giggle, he turned back to Cami with a raised brow. “Did you want to catch a show before we eat? I think Destiny Diamonds is next. "Yes, that's exactly what I am," Cami replied with a straight face and a serious tone to make it appear as thought she was a cop wearing a wire. Truthfully she was just curious though, and she was sure the smirk that soon came upon her face betrayed any kind of facade she was putting up just to play along with Jae's question.

She raised an eyebrow as Jae talked about things using different words to mask the true meaning of what he was saying. She could easily guess what conversations meant, especially since her father and brother had used the same codeword in the past, multiple times. Was it like a mafia thing? Was there a roster of codewords that she didn't know about? Who knows. Camille wasn't necessarily interested in learning about it even if there was.

"Yeah, don't ever call it a playroom. That's a codeword that'll get you into trouble more than saying the actual words," Camille snorted. Before she could say anything else, the woman from behind the bar soon returned, placing their drinks down in front of them, on the bar counter. "Thanks," Camille offered her gratitude before picking up her glass and taking a sip. It was strong, but it was smooth.

Cami let Jae and the woman speak, not wanting to butt into their conversation. This was normally how a third party should behave, but clearly Jae would never think about that when he was out with her. Then again, none of her friends would really ignore him — they were always fascinated by anyone or anything new so it'd be hard for Jae to just fade into the background as if he didn't exist. Camille had always been pretty good with it, but she supposed she wasn't as good as she thought or she wouldn't need a bodyguard.

"Let's eat," Cami decided, sipping some more of her drink. It was way too early in the morning for a whisky sour but in there, it felt like night time, so she just let herself believe that. "I came here for the food after all, and I'm starving. Maybe after that we can check out the activities," she shrugged, glancing toward the stage. Camille had never been to a strip club before, and she'd conveniently been absent when Frank got her brother a stripper for his twenty-first birthday. It wasn't really her sort of thing but she was admittedly curious as to how they pulled it off. Some of those moves looked near impossible to do.

Turning to Jae, she gestured forward. "Lead the way."

A girl with her eyes set on the food. I can appreciate that.” Jae responded, flashing Cami a cocky grin.

As she instructed in him to lead the way, Jae nodded with a “Yes, Captain. He took hold of his drink and turned around on the spot, looking towards the direction of a very large buffet table. Walking over to the said buffet that was tucked nicely into the corner, he took hold of a plate from the plate rack and handed it to Cami before taking one for himself. Drawing his attention to the buffet food, his dark eyes danced along the various foods that were hiding underneath the sneeze guard. Ah, this might’ve been a challenge for the dear girl.

It looks like we don’t have any white people food today,” he announced, looking over his shoulder to the girl “I’ll tell you the different options though so you don’t burn your tongue and try to sue me or some shit.” He turned back to the food and began to point at the array of foods. “That is Kimchi. It’s a bit spicy but it’s basically fermented cabbage. That is Tteokbokki which is spicy rice cake. Bulgogi which is like… it’s a type of marinaded meat. I think… yeah, this one of beef. And then you have Jajangmyeon, which is black bean noodles. Japchae which is rice noodles. Gimbap which is like… Sushi. And then Bibimbap which is mixed rice.

He slowly released a sigh before looking back at Cami with a raised brow. “And don’t worry. The buffet is free with entry. We get free entry so… it’s all free for us.” he mentioned to her with a small shrug before placing his place down on the buffet table. Slowly, he began to fill his plate with tteokbokki and bibimbap. All the while taking a sip of his whisky. By the time he had finished filling up his plate, the whisky was completely gone. Taking one last sip, he moved over and placed the empty glass onto a nearby table for one of the topless waitresses to come and collect. Making his way back over to the buffet, he took hold of a pair of chopsticks and a fork from the utensil tin.

Here,” he stated, handing Cami the fork as he approached back over to her. “I mean… chopsticks are over there if you want to try but… You know…” he used the chopsticks in his own hand to gesture the girl up and down. “White girl. I’ve never seen one of you types being able to successfully use a pair”. Was that a little bit racist? Most likely. But the number of racial slurs he had thrown his way – even as a child – made his little racist white girl rants look like blowing bubbles. There were far more harsh things he could be saying about her because of her race after all.

Ready?” he asked her, taking his plate in his hands and turning towards the seated areas right near the stage. Just as he took his seat, the DJ announced Destiny Diamonds was up next in just two minutes. “Ah! Hurry up, sit down! We got our food just in time.” he hissed towards Cami, gesturing for her to sit down as quickly as possible. He wasn’t excited at all.

Cami was happy to be led to the buffet table though upon arriving, she realised that she didn't recognise a lot of the food. This wasn't much of a dealbreaker for her since Cami had a taste for fine food, and she was used to tasting cuisines from various cultures, but she'd admittedly never tried authentic Korean food so she was interested as to what it would taste like.

She nodded along and listened intently as Jae gave her the rundown of what everything was. It was almost like she was a student in a class intent on making sure she didn't fail any pop quiz thrown her way but truthfully, Cami was just interested in different cuisines. It was an interesting thing to learn, and as an art student, all she did was learn about various art forms and cultural practises in different countries. It was fascinating, and perhaps the only time you'd find her not willing to talk back to any of Jae's quips. She was far too interested in the food.

Cami picked out a little bit of each, not wanting to skip out on anything she didn't recognise since she wanted to try all the dishes that were new to her. She glanced to Jae with an arched eyebrow when he pointed out the chopsticks. Now those she was familiar with. "I know how to use chopsticks." She refused to eat Sushi without it.

Once she had everything she needed, she followed Jae to her seat, though not nearly with as much enthusiasm as he had. He might be hopped up on the idea of getting to see topless women but It didn't really faze Cami much. Sure, she wasn't used to it, but she also didn't see it becoming something she'd grow used to.

"Not really the kind of entertainment I'm used to when I'm eating," Cami murmured with a small shrug, opting to dive into her food and enjoy that when the music changed, signalling the arrival of one of the performers. "Take me to a strip club with guys. I'll be more interested in that," she mentioned offhandedly, taking a bite of the kimchi.

Hearing Cami’s statement about taking her to a strip club with guys, Jae released a snort. “What? You’re not open minded?” he threw in her direction before taking a sip of his drink. Placing it back onto the table, he leant back in his chair with a deep sigh. Tilting his head slightly to the side, he offered Cami his trademark smirk before speaking once more “And who says there’s no male strippers here? Lady Luck is a co-ed strip joint. I mean… we probably should’ve come maybe on a Friday night or a Wednesday morning because that’s usually when the guys get to own the stage.

The sound of the music changing caught his attention; Brittney Spear’s “Toxic” echoed throughout the club. Oh yes, it was for sure the one he had been thinking about. “Ladies and Gentlemen, make some noise for… Destiny Diamonds!” the DJ called out over the microphone as the girl entered the stage dressed in nothing but glitter and diamonds. You could say she was inspired by the music video clip for this song, I suppose. The crowd around began to clap and cheer; Jae himself gave a small clap to show some respect to the dancer.

Can you believe that she’s had four kids?” Jae announced to Cami, turning his direction from the stripper to the girl next to him. “And surprisingly enough, she’s married too.” He then motioned towards a group of men sitting at a booth together, watching the dancer with their tongue wagging. The man wearing a dark red flannel shirt and trucker hat looked the most intrigued towards the stripped, to which Jae nodded towards the man. “That’s him. Her husband is her bigger fan.

Bringing his glass back up to this lips once more, he allowed his dark eyes to scan the surrounding area once more. He was trying to decipher what the atmosphere of the place was. Depending on which regular clients were here would determine if anything was bound to go down or not. At the moment, he saw no one that would cause any trouble. Well, apart from JB. JB was a Korean student from the university down the road. He liked to spend most of his time here, trying to get any girl’s numbers. Didn’t matter if they were dancers or just visiting. As soon as he saw they were looking at him or something, he’d approach them and breathe down their neck to get a number. Didn’t matter their age, race, or appearance either. Stalkerish, I suppose. But Jae was convinced that the boy had Asperger’s or some form of medical disorder which hindered his ability to read people’s facial expressions or develop social skills. He was a harmless twenty-one-year-old, but he could get a bit creepy for those who didn’t know him or about him.

Keep your eye out on JB.” Jae informed Cami, learning a bit closer to her so she could hear his instructions. He nodded towards the boy who was currently sitting at one of the tables nearby, watching Destiny with his mouth agape and tongue wagging. “He lacks a lot of social skills. I mean, he’s harmless. But if you show any sort of attention to you, you won’t be able to shake him off for an hour or until you give him your number. I mean, go ahead. Give him your number if you want. But I’d hate to think what type of messages he would be sending late at night.

The food was easily the best part about this place, for Cami. Mainly because she wasn't overly interested in watching women strip. Nothing against them, or the profession, but it wasn't something she found enjoyable, and truthfully, even if she joked about preferring to see men strip, she doubted she'd enjoy that much either.

Parties, she could handle, but at the end of the day, she felt most at home sitting in her studio and working on a painting or a sculpture, and more or less making a mess.

In any case, it was a nice change of pace at least. It was something new, which she wasn't always opposed to. And she felt it was definitely better than the past times her brother and Frank often indulged in, which was playing Russian Roulette with their prisoner playthings and drinking themselves silly — oh, and of course, experimenting with every drug known to man.

That wasn't really Cami's scene at all, and this felt like a walk in the park in comparison. And the food was much better. Cami liked to think she was something of a foodie, and she much preferred this buffet spread to whatever three-day-old Chinese takeout her brother was probably having right now.

Her eyes shifted to the woman on stage — Destiny Diamonds? She wasn't sure if she heard the announcer correctly — and Jae certainly seemed enthusiastic about her appearance. Cami nodded, trying to mirror the enthusiasm as he went on about her having had four kids and having her husband as her biggest fan, but she was mainly doing it to be polite. It was hard for her to mirror that kind of enthusiasm in a strip club where she felt out of place so she just kept stuffing her face, to keep from actually talking.

Eventually, she finished off her food, right about the time that Jae spoke about someone called JB, causing her to arch an eyebrow and follow his gaze. "He seems harmless," she said with a shrug, till he went on to explain that he exhibited more or less stalker-ish behaviour, which got her to look away out of fear that she might make eye contact. "Alright, noted," she said, nodding quickly and leaning back in her seat to slowly sip her drink.

"Well, that was some good food," she said, exhaling a sigh contentedly. "I wouldn't mind coming back here every weekend just for that buffet," she said with a small smirk, glancing over at Jae. "Any other things you do that you'd like to introduce me to today?"

Jae snorted as he heard Cami’s compliment on the food. “You’re probably the first person I’ve ever brought here who has complimented on the food before the boobs” he chuckled under his breath, looking over at the girl with a smirk. Of course, this was the first time he was working for that was both under his age and a woman, and not the mention – had a clean record. Sure, he had looked after women before. But generally they were strippers or the wives of the ring leaders. Cami was… well, even though she was the daughter of a mafia leader, she seemed… chilled.

He raised a brow at her question, somewhat amused that she was happy for him to introduce some more of his activities to her. “Wow wee,” he mockingly said before shifting himself in his chair to sit up completely straight and gazing at the female next to him. “Someone wants to dive deep into the Korean mafia. What’s your ambition? Are you looking to become a kkangpae?” Obviously, using the Korean word for ‘gangster’. “Hate to break it to you, sweetheart. You’re white. Very…” He paused for a moment, looking at the pale colour of her skin on her hands, before looking back up at her “Well, extremely white. We don’t really let people into the group with your skin tone

Was that racist? Well… highly. But in Jae’s mind, nah. Not at all. This was just common banter that came out of his mouth. Considering he grew up in a very white neighbourhood, went to a very white school, and spent most of his lunchtime having racial slurs thrown in his direction – he thought that he had the right to speak that way. I mean, why would they give it to him if they couldn’t take it themselves, right? Well, no, not right. Highly racist. But you try telling that to someone in the Korean mafia who spent their childhood – and now, adulthood – being treated differently for the colour of their skin.

Flashing a cheeky smirk in Cami’s direction, he brought his attention back to in front of himself. However, his little show he had been enjoying was about to come to an end as Jinyoung approached him. He liked Jinyoung. He was a sixty-two-year-old who knew how to kick ass. The only downfall as that he didn’t know how to speak English and he had this horrible Busan accent. “Seung Jae-Hyeon,” the older male started, grabbing the younger male’s attention.

Automatically, Jae rose from his seat and gave the older gentleman a half bow. “Nam Jinyoung-ssi” he responded to him before he was welcomed with a warm smile.

Suho-ssi wants to speak with you in his office. He’s instructed me to care for Miss Bianchi until you return” Jinyoung instructed the boy.

Jae’s brows furrowed in confusion and a small pout fell upon his lips. Ah, just when the fun stuff was about to happen. He was going to show her around their nice little Korean neighbourhood. Ah, maybe next time. He nodded slowly towards the older man before turning to Cami. “I’m sorry Princess,” he sighed, looking down at the girl. “I’m being summoned by the top dog himself. Jinyoung here will take care of you while I’m away. Oh and… a bit of warning…” He looked at Jinyoung before looking back at Cami with a devilish grin. “He doesn’t understand a word of English. Have fun with that, won’t you?

Cami rolled her eyes at Jae's comments. At this point, it just rolled right off of her. She'd barely been with him for a period of time yet she was already used to his behaviour and his antics — and of course, the teasing comments. None of it really bothered her as much anymore. She was just accepting that she had to live with this till she could prove to her father that she didn't really need a bodyguard.

"I'm just bored of sitting at home," she said with a shrug. "And we're out anyway, and we're over here with the rest of your gang friends." Were they called gang friends? Something else? She didn't know, and she didn't particularly care. "We could—" Whatever she'd been about to say was cut off when an older man approached them. Well, he approached Jae, mostly, seemingly having something to say to him.

Jae rose to his feet to boy, and while Cami didn't bow, she did stand as well, solely because she had no idea what was going on, so she was just kind of copying Jae. The man spoke to Jae in Korean, which Cami obviously didn't understand, though judging by Jae's expression, he seemed confused about something. Then he turned to her and what he said caused her to arch an eyebrow. "Oh." She slowly nodded when he explained that he was being summoned for some other work. She then glanced at the man he called Jinyoung and offered a polite smile while being informed that he didn't speak a lick of English. Well that should be interesting.

"Right," she murmured, looking back to Jae for a moment. "Well... see ya, I guess." Whenever that would be. She had no idea what he was being summoned for, but it wasn't any of her business and she could always just poke him about it later instead of keeping him here longer when he was being called upon.

The moment he left, Cami realised she no longer had any desire to remain in a strip club, and she'd finished her food anyway, so with a mix of broken English and sing language, she got Jinyoung to take her home. As expected, he followed her up to the apartment, because he was meant to be taking Jae's place till he got back, but he was significantly less annoying than Jae was because he didn't speak. That was fine by Cami. She could sort of just pretend he didn't exist.

Once in her apartment, she made some coffee that she offered to Jinyoung as well — a courtesy that Jae hadn't earned because she hadn't liked him when he first showed up — and then she retreated to her art studio to work on a painting for the rest of the day while Jinyoung hung around in the living room. Cami still had no clue if Jae would even be back that same night, and she vaguely wondered why she was even thinking about when he'd be back before she quickly pushed those thoughts out of her mind and returned to her art work, sitting there in front of that canvas even as night fell and it got dark outside.

Okay, so he had been distracted.

And he had let his guard down for a second.

But it seemed a second was all it took for one of Min-Ho’s men to strike Jae’s face. And as he fell onto the ground, repeatedly kick him in the ribs. I mean, sure, Jae ended up giving that guy the beat down of his life. It was safe to say that he wouldn’t be messing with the likes of Suho and his men unless it was from a wheelchair. But it was in that one second where he was distracted that it all happened. And why was he distracted you may ask? Because he was freaking thinking to himself I wonder what Cami is doing right now? That’s right ladies and gentlemen. He was thinking about her. About what she was doing. If she was okay. If she was bored.

Even as he drove back to her apartment complex, he kept on wondering about her. Even though his nose was still pouring with blood and his shirt soaked and stained in blood; half of his and half of every other guy who tried to fight him. He was absolutely covered by a combination of blood, sweat and possibly tears from the other men, he wasn't quite sure. It was very late at night and sadly, it didn’t go to plan. While Jae had wished it was only going to be half an hour, it ended up being close to sixteen hours. Sixteen hours of trying to discuss with Min-Ho about payments and why he needed to pay them. And then there was the torturing, threatening to kill him. And then he had his guys rock up and try to start shit with them. And then it ended with Jae and Seung-min kicking their asses and Min-Ho finally giving up and paying them. But that was the end of their business relationship. There would be no more protection for Min-Ho from this day further.

As he pulled up to the apartment complex, parking downstairs in the car park area, he gazed down at the clock on the dashboard. 2:08 AM. Jae let out a soft sigh, wiping his nose on his sleeve once more, feeling the blood smear on his face. “Goddammit…” he muttered under his breath, reaching over for an old shirt from his back seat and pressing it against his nose. He thought the bleeding had stopped but it seemed like it was just pouring like a waterfall. Letting out a defeated huff, he leant back into his seat and closed his eyes for a moment. He had texted Jinyoung about half an hour ago to inform him that he was on his way back. And now… all Jae wanted to do was sleep. Well, first wash up and make sure that none of the cuts he received tonight was going to get infected; especially the large cement burn he received up his left arm as he fell over on the pavement.

Finally, after a few moments to himself, Jae pushed the car door open and began to make his way towards the elevator. Thank God he wouldn't have to go through the foyer to get to Cami's apartment. It was so late that he highly doubted that Cami would even be awake. He didn’t blame her to be completely honest. With the car locked, he made his way up to the apartment, being greeted at the front door by Jinyoung who stood with it ajar for him. The pair of them spoke in hushed whispers, transferring over any information that was needed. With a nod and a pat on the shoulder, Jinyoung was finished for his shift and exited the house. His dark eyes gazed up towards the stairs. Urg, stairs he painfully thought to himself. He didn’t want to go upstairs especially when it felt like his ribs were about to fall out of his chest. Regretfully, he finally made his way up as quietly as he could so he wouldn’t wake Cami up before carefully beginning to tip-toe towards the door for his allocated guest room.

It was late when Jae got back in. Cami knew this because she was wide awake, applying the finishing touches on her painting. For some reason she hadn't been able to fall asleep, and she wasn't really sure why. Her thoughts occasionally drifted to Jae, wondering what he was up to since it meant having to take him away from his job as bodyguard before she briefly reminded herself that she didn't care. Of course she didn't. She hadn't wanted this after all, and truthfully things were less annoying this way. This was fine.

Yet her thoughts continued to drift to him as she continued working on her art.

Cami was a deep sleeper, but while awake, she had a keen sense of hearing. She heard the door opening downstairs, some hushed voices that she couldn't make out even if she understood Korean, and then footsteps making their way up the stairs. She knew it had to be Jae heading in to his designated bedroom so Cami got up from her stool. Her canvas still required the finishing touches, she had her smock on, covered in patches of old and new paint, and the fact that she concentrated only on painting and nothing else was clear in the way her hands and part of her cheek had streaks of paint on them.

She didn't think of any of that though as she opened the door just in time to see Jae passing by. "About time you—" Her initial response was to make a witty comment, maybe tease him about his whereabouts and ask what he'd been up to. However, even in the dim hallway lighting, she was able to make out that wherever he'd gone and whatever he'd done had all been less than pleasant judging by the blood and the bruisings. It was probably going to look worse in the morning, but Cami's expression shifted to one of surprise — and surprisingly, concern.

"What the hell happened to you?" Cami didn't really give him a chance to respond though, because she quickly took his hand and yanked him into her room, nudging him toward the stool before she disappeared into the bathroom to find her first aid kit. Her father made sure she always had one on hand, even though Cami didn't know how to treat most injuries. It was something he had insisted she learn given that his line of work wasn't exactly a safe one, but she usually blew him off every chance she got. Hopefully she could figure out how to deal with... whatever Jae had been through. It did not look pretty.

Hearing that door slowly creak open, Jae paused on the spot. Oh no, he had been caught out. His dark, tired eyes flickered over to see Cami standing there, paint covering her smock, hands and… adorably on her cheek. It was like someone grabbed the remote and pressed pause on the poor boy as he stood there, mouth slightly agape. Like a parent catching their child sneaking into the kitchen for a midnight feast. And he was anticipating the teasing. Her saying things like if this is what you like, I wonder what they look like or your blood belongs in you not on you. Those really corny jokes, you know? However, the teasing didn’t come. In fact, her face shifted into a surprise expression. And, surprisingly enough, she looked rather concerned.

His ex-girlfriend, Mina, never did this. She wouldn’t even look at him when he was covered in blood. Even if he had the smallest scratch, she’d turn her head away. But here was Cami, actually concerned for his wellbeing as his nose was pouring out with blood and he could feel the dull ache against his ribs. She actually questioned what the hell had happened to him and was yanking him into her room, nudging him towards a stool to sit down. This… wasn’t the type of attention he was used to.

Jae’s mind drifted back to Cami’s question; what the hell had happened. He wanted to talk to her about what happened. Every minute of it. Tell her about how the dudes tried to take him down but he was big, strong and brave and managed to get them first. He wanted to brag about his time despite coming back covered in blood. But there were two things stopping him. The first being he knew this place had been laced with cameras. Who was to say that someone didn’t come back in and lace it once more while they had been away? All it took was for Jae to explain to Cami what had happened; if it was caught on camera or on voice recording, someone could hand that in to the police and he’d be an absolute goner. Secondly, Cami had literally just run out of the room. Of course, she had gone to get the first aid kit. But who the heck asks what's wrong, pushes you into a room before you can respond, and then run off again?!

Now that he had a moment to actually breathe, he decided that maybe it was the best time to actually look at the mess that had been created. His dark eyes drifted over to his reflection in the mirror, causing him to frown (and well, ow, that hurt to frown.) With a soft scoff at his image, Jae began to unbutton his now blood-stained button-up shirt. “One of my favourite ones too…” he muttered under his breath to himself, slowly unbuttoning his favourite shirt. Once the buttons were unfastened, he literally had to peel the shirt off of him as the blood-stained against his skin underneath. A frown came to his face as he placed the shirt onto the stool Cami had indicated for him to sit on and began to examine any further injuries. He raised his left arm and saw the cement burn that took up most of his forearm. He then lifted his right arm to see the forming dark bruises already showing around his ribs, causing him to frown. “Yep… Looks like I’ll be visiting the doctors tomorrow” he sighed, slowly placing his arm down and lazily looking back at his reflection once more

Cami found the first aid kit relatively quickly since it was always in the medicine cabinet and never misplaced — mainly because it was never used. This was the first time she was busting it out and she admittedly had no idea what to do but she was going to give it her best shot. Cami did briefly pause to wonder to herself why she was paying this so much attention when such injuries were more or less an occupational hazard for someone who grew up with and worked for a dangerous gang, but she pushed the thought aside for the time being and made her way back into the room.

She fumbled with the things inside the kit, confused about what half of the things were, though her mind seemed to turn to mush when she walked in on Jae assessing his injuries. His shirt was off and surprisingly the mass number of wounds on his body was not what first caught her attention.

She cleared her throat and approached him. "Doctor tomorrow," Cami agreed with a nod. "But you're not staining my bedsheets with your blood so sit down." She nodded to the stool once more since he'd stood up to look in the mirror. "The worst injury I've ever had were a few cuts and scrapes so I don't really know what I'm doing," Cami admitted in a murmur, standing over Jae and trying to figure out what to deal with first. The bruising that was still darkening couldn't be treated immediately. She figured some ice would help since she remembered Calvin always sitting with a bag of frozen peas whenever he got into it with someone. There was blood staining most of his body though, and a nasty scrape along the side of his arm which she assumed came about because he was thrown to the ground.

"Here." She handed him a damp towel so he could work on cleaning the blood a bit. He could shower it all off more properly later but for now it would help with determining if there were any more cuts and bruises underneath the rusty tint that covered his torso. While he did that, she got antiseptic wipes to try and treat the cement burn along his forearm.

"Did you get distracted or something, or were you outnumbered?" Cami asked, trying to inject a little humour into the situation. It was nothing to laugh about of course, but this was easily the first time since Jae began his job as her 'bodyguard' that they weren't arguing about something or the other and it felt kind of... nice.

He didn’t want to fight against her command or sitting on the stool. After all, he would’ve said the same thing to someone who was in his bedroom and covered in blood. Trying to get blood out of bed sheets was a bitch, and he knew from experience. So, he made his way back over to the stool and lifted his shirt off so he could sit down. Once seated and his shirt placed into his lap, he turned his attention back to Cami. It would be a lie to say that a slight thrill of panic didn’t run through his body as she admitted that she had no clue what she was doing. How was it that she was connected to the mafia and had never once had to help tend people who were hurt? Had he been worrying too much about her father’s power? Rather than question her father’s work ethics, Jae released a soft sigh. “Well, I’m honoured that I’m your first cadaver” he said jokingly, starting to messily fold the shirt in his lap.

Hearing the ‘here’ and seeing the damp towel, Jae automatically took hold of it and began to get to work. He knew exactly what she was wanting him to do without any words needed. He started off with the blood staining his chest, knowing full damn well that most of it wasn’t his own. The only places he knew that he was bleeding from was his burnt up arm, possibly his eyebrow because he could feel that throbbing, and one hundred per cent from his nose. And, of course, as Cami began to wipe down the cement burn on his forearm, he had to grind his teeth and pretend that he was some macho dude that didn’t feel any pain. After all, the area was still tender and fresh. Of course it was going to hurt.

Hearing her question, Jae released a soft scoff as he continued to wipe down his toned torso. “A little bit of both, I suppose,” he said casually, beginning to move upwards with the cloth upon his body. “I mean… Surely you didn’t think that all of this blood actually belongs to me?” he questioned her, raising his brow slightly only to stop once feeling the pain radiate through the side of his face. “Shit” Jae cussed softly, bringing the blood-stained wet cloth to his head where he felt the source of his pain beginning to radiate. “Yo, Princess,” he began, turning his head slightly to gaze at Cami getting to work with her non-existing first aid skills “Can you check my brow? It hurts like a bitch

Slowly, he moved the wet cloth from the busted up eyebrow that was slowly weeping blood. Releasing another sigh, he continued with his train of thought before he had accidentally hurt himself by raising his eyebrow in a comical manner. “But to answer your question… We got jumped. By like… twelve guys. For a split second, I got distracted thinking about something and four guys took advantage of that. I don’t know about you, but I think four people taking on one person is a bit cowardly and shows how insecure they are about their own strength.

Jae sat down without much reluctance — or so it seemed, anyway. Maybe he was just exhausted. Either way, she knew better than to try and make a jab at that so she just focused on cleaning the scrapes up along his forearm while he took the damp cloth on her and got to work cleaning the blood off of his body.

He answered her question, explaining that he was both distracted and outnumbered. She could believe the latter — she just found it hard to believe that anything could have distracted him. It was okay for her to be distracted by things because she didn't have to do the kind of work that he did. She knew very well what happened to people in those situations — she'd seen it enough with her brother in their youth and he no longer made the mistake of allowing anything to distract him at any time of the day. Unless he was drunk and in a club but that was a different situation altogether.

With Jae it made her curious. In fact, she was so lost in thought about it that she almost didn't notice him wincing in pain once he arched an eyebrow. Her gaze only shifted from the nasty redness along his forearm when he called her. "Huh?" Normally she would have given him shit for calling her 'princess', but for the time being she let it go. "Oh. Yeah, okay." Abandoning his arm for a moment, she grabbed a fresh antiseptic wipe and moved to stand in front of him. She crouched a bit to bring herself to his height — rather unusual since when they were both standing she almost needed a foot ladder to reach his height.

The cut along his brow seemed pretty bad. She didn't notice it with all the blood earlier but she could see it much more clearly now that she was closer. Much closer, in fact. So much so that she could feel the warmth of his breath along her neck. Talk about distractions.

Clearing her throat a bit, she tried to focus on cleaning out the wound instead of meeting his gaze. She wiped around the wound to clean off the blood first and listened as he continued to explain what had really happened. Camille hadn't been expecting to hear that he'd been jumped by twelve guys, but she supposed that made sense given how he looked. And while she would have jumped on to berate the four guys who clearly were cowardly like Jae claimed, her mind seemed stuck on something else. "What was it?" She asked, taking a moment to realise that she asked that question out of context.

"What were you distracted thinking about, I mean," she quickly clarified, sparing him a brief glance before she went back to cleaning the wound.

What were you distracted thinking about, I mean.

Jae’s eyes flickered from ahead of him to quickly glance at Cami – who seemed to be glancing at him also. However, she was quick to bring her attention back to his wound. Not to say that he tore his eyes away from her face as she concentrated. Well, he could be honest. He could tell her that he had been concerned for her wellbeing. That he didn’t find her to be completely intolerable and that he could comfortably and confidently say that his time around her had been very interesting. And that there was a slight chance that he had been worried during her time while under the protection of Jinyoung. Now, Jinyoung was a great bodyguard. But he didn’t speak English. And – not to toot his own horn here – he wasn’t as good as he was.

I was… thinking about a girl.” he responded, his eyes moving from Cami to ahead of himself once again. Was he seriously going to tell her? Was this badass bodyguard about to let his own guard down and express to her how he truly felt? He could feel his heart in his chest going crazy and the blood beginning to pump into his ears causing them to heat up. Crazy how something as simple as admitting he was worried for her was making him respond this way to begin with. Clearing his throat slightly, trying to maintain his composure, he decided to go on. Yet, not reveal who he was talking about.

I was just… worried that she uh… She was ok.” he continued. Hell, he could’ve been talking about anyone. He could’ve even been talking about his ex-girlfriend that he had mentioned in passing to Cami upon first meeting. I mean, mafia people could have relationships, right? They could have crushes on people and hook up with people. It wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for him to actually fancy someone, right? Wait, why was he thinking about fancying anyone? Especially while thinking about Cami. No, he didn’t fancy Cami. I mean, she was good looking, funny and he couldn’t help but worry about her when he wasn’t working for her – crraaaaap, he was fancying her. His eyes widened slightly upon the realisation. No, that was okay. Wasn’t it? Like, she was a pretty cool chick. It was fine to be attracted to someone. Just as long as he didn’t… act on anything.

Okay, but now he didn’t know what to do with himself. What if she saw it in his face or how his body was tense that he thought she was attractive? What if his composure was giving it all away? Jesus Christ, why the hell was he going down this road? What if… he just… pretended he was talking about someone else? Yes! That seemed like a good plan! Pretend it was someone else altogether. Take the scent away from her. “She uhh…” he began, trying to figure out some sort of lie “She… a tough cookie though. I know she’d be able to take someone out in one punch…” Oh Jesus, he felt like he was going to have a heart attack. “Unlike you, noodle arms” he added on, lifting a hand up and giving Cami’s upper arm a light pinch “When was the last time you went to the gym? I should do a boot camp training with you so I don’t have to worry about you too

Camille did her best to not look at Jae the entire time. She focused on the blood and the wound and cleaning it up as much as she could without bringing any more pain to him. That was kind of hard though since it was bound to sting. Still, a little sting was likely nothing compared to the aches he'd have all over his body if he got jumped by four guys and then had to deal with almost eight more.

When Jae said he was thinking about a girl, Cami paused. Her hand hovered in the air above his brow, not quite reaching the skin yet since she took a moment to process how that made her feel. She still wasn't sure, because it was very vague. Clearing her throat a bit, she forced herself to continue working while expressing some sort of curiosity. "Oh?"

He continued, explaining how he'd been worried about whether this girl was okay or not. Now, Camille wasn't an idiot — there was a tiny part of her that suspected if he was speaking about her. Maybe because that part of her also wanted him to be speaking about her. Then she had to do a double take because even an hour ago she wouldn't have considered this a possibility, yet now she felt a sudden warmth at the idea of having been on Jae's mind enough to distract him?

She could be getting ahead of herself though, so she tried not to read too much into it. When Jae spoke again after a short pause, talking about how this girl could handle herself though, Camille realised she may have been disillusioned.

"Oh." The warmth she felt initially seemed to stick around, though it felt different. There was a sense of... disappointment? Whatever it was, Camille didn't realise that she did a bad job of keeping that expression off of her face. She shouldn't even be thinking about this, or feeling this way. No, Jae annoyed the hell out of her — why was she changing her stance?

She knew the answer of course, but admitting it when he clearly had some other girl on his mind wasn't exactly something she wanted to face.

So, instead, she got out some padding to patch up the wound above his eyebrow. "Well, lucky girl. Unlucky you, though," Camille replied, putting the surgical tape in place. "And I don't go to the gym," she added with a shrug, standing back upright. "Besides, I can defend myself. I know how to shoot a gun. Pretty well, actually. I just don't like using it or carrying it around." The more she was willing to do that, the more she openly accepted her father's lifestyle.

"And I do not have noodle arms," Camille added with a smirk, crossing her arms over her chest and looking down at him. She looked over at one of her arms and used a finger to poke at the bicep, as if testing to see if he were right. "I have some muscle," she mumbled.

Raising his hand, holding onto the blood covered cloth, Jae placed it against his nose to wipe away the blood as Cami began to speak. Okay… it sounded like she took the bait and believed he was talking about another girl. Thank God for that. The last thing that he wanted was to let his guard down and for her to think that he was just some giant softie with feelings. Situations like that never really seemed to go down well. As she stood up straight and declared she didn’t have noodle arms, he couldn’t help but allow a bark of laughter slip from his lips.

Sure, she may have thought that she had some muscle. But if she wasn’t exercising it every day, then they were useless. And something was telling him that she wasn’t defending herself off of enemies every single day. The part where she needed a bodyguard was a dead giveaway. He reflected her smirk with his own, moving the cloth away from his now cleaned up face and gazed up with her. “Oh, yes. I see those muscles” he said in a mocking tone, reaching over and poking the same bicep that she had poked herself. “Oh, Jesus. So super scary. Remind me to never mess with you unless I want to be dead meat. Actually – why do you even have a bodyguard? You said you know how to shoot a gun and I can see you have guns on your arms. Why don’t you ever use them?

Releasing a soft, fake sigh, Jae rose to his full height as stood before Cami. “Well, thank you, Princess. But I think I should at least have some sort of shower to rinse the rest of the blood and the smell of the other men’s failure off my body” Jae said in a very low tone, a smirk on his face and continuing to keep at much eye contact as possible. If anything, he was trying to distract her. To catch her off guard. And it must’ve worked. Because in one swift movement, he placed his hands upon her upper arms and pushed her against the wall (as carefully as he could, mind you). His hands planted on her arms up high against the wall, and he placed his leg between her own legs to stop her from even attempting to kick him in the balls.

See,” he casually began to speak in a hushed, low tone, towering over the girl. His bare torso practically pressed up against her clothed body. “This is why you really should get some self-defence training. I mean, my ribs are fucked, and I’m coming back having been jumped by four guys. And yet I was so easily able to pin you against this wall. And I can tell you right now… I’m playing nice and I’m not even holding you down with all my strength. Maybe ten per cent... Not to mention, there are at least five different ways you could escape from my current clutches. But, as you said – you know how to defend yourself, don’t you Princess?

He paused for a moment, gazing down at Cami in complete silence in the still room. His dark eyes gazed at all the different features upon Cami’s face that he had never noticed before. But for some odd reason, they stood out so clearly now. They made her unique and beautiful. Okay, let’s get off that train of thought. “I’ll teach you” he said in a stern, low voice. “No ifs or buts. I’m going to teach you defence skills.” He paused for a moment, tilting his head to look at her with a cocky smirk. “This is where you say yes, Mr Seung.
