[Year 1, Water] No Dragonblooded Left Behind [Lighting A Fire]

The Clearing

The tree that the Wood sigil had been inscribed on was torn and charred. The sigil itself still glowed with a fitful green light, somehow soothing in comparison to the previous incidences of green. Hai Feng, as the least flighty and least wounded (at least in terms of awareness of the surroundings), managed to make a copy of the sigil before the light of it faded entirely.

The bolts of essence that Syme fired into the air reached up into the clouds, lighting the dank grey with pale blue illumination briefly. It can be presumed someone saw the improvised distress signal. Especially, of course, in the looming darkness that they were left in.

It's too bad Arna is unconscious - a Fire Aspect with her anima up is quite warming. The snow is starting to come down thicker, and the temperature is dropping rather precipitously.

Ledaal Larissa

Larissa sits bolt upright as the snow brushes her face.

"This. Is. Not. Good."

She glances around at the others. "If we're going to stay here and wait for help to arrive, we need to start a fire and build some kind of shelter -- fast! Otherwise we'll probably freeze to death before they find us."

Ledaal Syme

"C...can't we find our own way out? I mean, maybe our animas would be enough light to let us see well enough to get through the forest."

Hai Feng

He started to look around to gauge where they were, where they had come from, and how to get out. He knew at least one thing, they needed to go now before the snow covered up any trace of any way to get back home.

"We need to go and we need to go now. I know a little bit about finding a trail and such, but I wouldn't mind the help of anyone more experienced than me."

OOC: Survival roll?

Ledaal Coreen

"I don't know anything about real outside-type stuff, but um, there were all these books, like The Mystery of Snowskull Mountain with Tepet Red Deer and the were-tiger that was just the old governor really, that were in Grandmother's library, and anyway in the books, you're supposed to try to keep your hands free when transporting the wounded, and that makes sense because who knows if that thing we fought was also the thing on the chain, and maybe the REAL chain-thing-monster is in the woods right now, and we probably smell really tasty with all the blood and stuff. Also you're supposed to not move a wounded person much, like when V'neef Fawn got attacked by the were-tiger, but we're gonna have to move her anyway, so I think we should try to keep her flat-ish and warm."

With that burst of words, she went over to the closest pine tree, dusting a cloud of snow off a long, thickly-branched limb. "Um, Haifeng, could you chop this off the tree for me? And the one on the other side, not the scraggly one but the one with all the needles."

Her fingers fumbled at the knot in her sash, but she was (for once) pleased that it had been made extra-long for her to grow into. Not gonna get to grow into it now, I guess, not with Arna looking just like singed meat. Better hurry!

-------------------------------

Dunno which rolls to make for "improvise travois."

Hai Feng

He moved over to that very tree, laying Arna down in the process before unsheathing his claws and removing the wood that she had requested.

The Clearing

The travois came together in a terribly ungainly and awkward-looking way. For all that Coreen came up with the idea, it was Larissa who did most of the work, her connection with Pasiap's building talents aiding her. Once Arna was dragged onto the travois, the group set off in the direction of the school.

Well, hopefully towards the school.

Larissa, most experienced tracker and outdoorsman (outdoorswoman?...outdoorsdragon), leads the little group of students through the blizzard, trying to follow the trail they'd made getting to the clearing in the first place.

As time passed, though, it becomes clear that the trail has been lost. Snowfall - heavy, wet snow, worse yet - accumulated faster than the group could travel while carrying Arna, and there hadn't exactly been any reason to mark the trail while they had entered the forest to begin with.

It's dark as hell now, and the temperature is still dropping. At least there's no wind - it's perfectly still, in fact. Odd, for a fairly small island, but it is the Heptagram.

------

Travois successfully constructed. Attempts to follow trail back to school, not so successful. Larissa had the highest Perception + Survival score, but six dice couldn't beat the external penalties imposed by night and snow.

Ledaal Larissa

After her fifth attempt to locate the path they had followed on the way in fails, Larissa stops and says something that would have made an Immaculate monk scour her mouth with soap.

Then: "No way are we going to find our way back to the school in this storm. We'll just have to build a fire, put up a shelter, and wait till morning."
