[Year 1, Water] No Dragonblooded Left Behind [Lighting A Fire]

Hei Feng

His sense alerted to the stranger, even more so when he notice he ws hardly the only one that was aware of their presence. His stance shifted immediately, unconsciously, to one of defense in preparation of a fight. His muscles tensed more at the realization that there had possibly been some sort of watch dog. Whether the blood left behind was of the beast or a foolish student had yet to be determined.

Looking the way of the follower he raised his voice in challenge, "Who are you, and why are you, so badly, trying so hard to sneak behind us?" And it was obvious the boy was looking for a fight as the situation made him a little tense, especially when someone was trying to sneak behind them.

Ledaal Larissa

Aware they're are being followed and uneasy about the implications, Larissa looks towards the oak tree and the seeming signs of a scuffle. Her quick dark eyes scan the ground, searching for clues to what happened -- until her concentration is broken by the sound of Hai Feng's voice. She turns around...

Tepet Arna

As the others stop to respond to the stranger, Arna merely remains still; a bare tilt of her head to get the potential threat in her sight is the only indication she noticed them at all. With Haifeng giving up any chance to pretend they hadn't noticed the interloper, Arna chooses instead to wait and prepare to respond. Perhaps not the most rational of responses, given that they were presumably (?) on safe ground, but between the blood on the ground and Arna's remaining distrust of her "new people," she felt little inclination to lower her guard.

The weight of her arms and armor, picked up before heading into the wilds, suddenly felt much more reassuring.

Ledaal Syme

Syme, too, sees their strange pursuer. Letting his comrades handle the strange creature, he takes up a position behind them. He reaches for his essence caster, and rests his hand on the hilt. Hopefully words would prevail, but in the worst case scenario, there was always highly-concentrated weaponized essence.

The Clearing (Of Terror)

The figure stumbled - no, shambled - into the relatively bright clearing. He looked like an older student, coming out of an experiment that went wrong with explosive results - his clothes were damaged, his tunic in particular only barely existing, yet he hardly seemed to notice the cold.

And, indeed, while his chest moved, there was no cloud coming from his mouth.

He grinned, suddenly, revealing a mouth full of rotting teeth and dripping with something, and began to move towards the group again. His hands flexed, opening and closing, and were his arms rippling? In fact, his whole body was, plates of broken stone pushing out through his skin.

Ledaal Syme

For a rare moment, Syme was not curious. Questions about its genus and species and essence pattern and nature could wait until it wasn't trying to kill them. It hadn't quite done anything threatening yet, but it had the look on its face. Everyone in house Ledaal knew "the look." It was the expression that passed across the faces of summoned elementals and demons that were about to visit terrible violence on their summoners. This thing, whatever it was exactly, looked hungry for dragon-child flesh.

Without speaking a word, Syme draws his essence caster and raises it to eye level. A calm sky-blue light begins to exude from his skin as he summons the essence necessary for his weapon. Shuffing backward toward the cover of the trees surrounding the clearing, Syme waits until both sights are lined up with the drooling face of the creature. A squeeze of the brass contact later, and a bolt of blue-white essence explodes out of the chamber, streaking toward the monster.

The stranger's arms flowed, flesh and blood shifting to form two broad, hooked blades edged in bone and obsidian. He brought them up in a disturbingly fast defense, but Syme's bolt of essence was well-aimed and struck the monstrous figure high in the chest.

He howled in anger and swung one of those massive blades at the nearest target - Hai Feng - who only barely managed to get out of the way. A few hairs drift aimlessly in the air, sliced from Hai Feng's scalp, and the terrifying monster's muscles ripple as he brought the blades around again.

Syme gets 9(what the fuck eotw are you using voodoo) successes and does three levels of bashing. You freak. Monstro tries to decapitate Hai Feng but barely misses.

Ledaal Coreen

Coreen shrieked like a tin whistle as the bone-blades sliced over Hai Feng's head, her vivid imagination instantly supplying an image of what would've happened had those blades struck home. A wave of fear swept over her, turning her stomach into a churning mess - this wasn't like watching Grandmother deal with mis-bound demons, not at all - and she stumbled backwards, biting her lip hard enough to taste blood.

Don't faint don't barf oh dragons what is that? she thought, the lightning collecting in her palm faster than it ever had before. All her grace turned into panicked speed with one burst of determination, whipping the essence-ball straight toward the monster.

Ledaal Larissa

Larissa mentally curses herself for having left her whip back in her room -- not that a whip would do much good against this monstrosity, from the looks of it, but the extra reach would have come in handy. Drawning a chunk of whitish granite from the pouch in her pocket, she grips it tightly in her left fist as she sends Essence surging through her body again, in case her better-armed companions fail to stop the thing.

Surreptitiously, she slides the fingers of her right hand into the knuckle dusters in her other pocket. These, at least, she has learned not to leave behind.

Out of the corner of her mouth, she mutters, "Where do I get one of those?" It is unclear whether she is talking to Syme or Coreen

Tepet Arna

Arna stared at the odd stranger for a bit, her expression rapidly changing from slightly unsure curiosity to a slight angry sneer. She no longer cared what the thing was- it was obviously a threat, and it'd been more than a while since Arna had a chance to really open up.

With her right hand, Arna pulls the shaft of her fire-red spear out of its leather harness, then- with a quick spin- grabs the front of it with her left hand. As her body lowers for the charge, she can almost hear the spear whispering in her ear to fight, kill, conquer, its bloodlust matching Arna's own. This was the first chance since being taken from her home, her lands, to truly let out some steam, and with a wide, evil grin, Arna decided to let it all out.

With a bloodcurdling battle cry, Arna charged forward, bursting into flame- fires danced over the tip of her spear and even struck up in her wake as she barrels into the hideous monster, driving him back and into the nearest tree. With a sickening sound of flesh tearing and bones breaking, her spear drives through the monster's chest and through the wood, blackening the tree's trunk with the remains of its blaze.

Rising up from her charging position, Arna whips the spear out of both tree and monster, wordlessly walking away.

Using Bellows-Pumping Stride to get enough speed to charge this thing, then attacking with "Phoenix's Fall." Also using 3m on the First Melee excellency and 2m on Dragon-Graced Weapon to take this thing out in one hit, or at least work off some of Arna's steam trying.

The Clearing

The battle begins in earnest, with all of his new friends rushing at the terrible monster. The monster was getting closer now, and Syme couldn't quite figure out what was keeping him from turning and running into the forest. It certainly wasn't courage, not by the way his heart was pounding. Perhaps it was fear of the even more terrible things deeper in the forest, or maybe it was just the shame of letting his comrades down. Or maybe it was something else. The sense of seeing the five of them fighting together, of destroying this monster as a team, in that moment Syme felt the winds around him calm and his true place in creation confirmed. With an outward calmness that belied his inner turmoil, Syme raised his weapon and aimed at the beast again. He would have to find an open spot, a chance to hit it while it was engaged with the others without simultaneously hitting the others with his own blast.

He stopped, and his heart was calmed by the words his big sister said to him during archery practice.

"One," he whispers with his eyes closed. "the distinction between man and creation is an illusion. Thou art that."

Arna screamed and drove her spear at the monster.

"Two," Syme said the winds of his anima picking up around him. "when one is composed and focused, one exists in harmony with creation from the vaulted sky to the darkest depths."

The beast roared.

"Three," Symes auburn eyes snapped open. "One's sight is not bound by the horizon, but permeates the ineffable boundaries of creation."

Syme's aim was solid, and his hand was steady even as his sky-blue anima erupted to light. The roar of the whirlwind filled his ears. Particles of essence began to gather at the tip of his blaster.

"Four, one does not shoot the target, one becomes as one with the target."

Eyes narrow once more as Syme squeezes the trigger. For a heartbeat there is a perfect calm before the bolt explodes out of his hands and flies straight into the beast's open mouth.

Hai Feng

A breeze, a blade across and over his head. Years of training didn't permit him the time to worry or fret. And the immediate reaction of classmates was impressive and a relief to him in that timeless few seconds of thought and introspection.

Body, mind, and essence flowed as he moved in an out of attacks, whether or friend or for, only to move closer and closer to his opponent.

Claws elegant and lethal seamlessly flowed forth from the narrow slits of his gauntlet as he rushed forward and as he slid forth feet first beneath the striking spear he used his left hand, claws guiding him, to steer to the left of the tree.

And as the fiery warrior pulled forth her spear leaving the foe to begin to fall Hai Feng used his forward momentum to practically flow around the base of the tree with left claws leading and finding purchase in the meat of the creature's left arm and giving the boy purchase to pull himself up more full. This only led to his right claws latching into the meat of the left shoulder of his enemy and the remaining momentum utilized to fully to dig in.

A coy smile upon his lips as he looked forward and yet spoke to the beast, "Smile friend, my pal there's about to make you one with nature." He paused for a split second before the shot was fired and looked at him before asking, "You don't have any allergies to death do you?"

The sound of the shot drowned out any possible answer...

3m for 3MA dice, stunting an attack turned clinch if possible. Damage is a bonus, but with the focus towards the claws pinning the poor bastard to the tree and lining up a beautiful target for his marksman friend.

The Clearing

The remaining students leaped into battle. Larissa kept back, Essence flowing around her body to strengthen and support her - and in a moment of horror, recognizes that at least some of the attacker's magics are Dragon-Blooded ones. Earth-aspected charms, at that. His arms are something else, though...

Arna lunged forward, her spear wreathed in a corona of fiery Essence, and slams into the gut of the creature. The Fire-essence blazed up, sheathing the enemy in a dull red glow, and its skin began to smolder as it howled.

Haifeng glided forward, shifting effortlessly around Arna's shrieking charge, and deftly pins the burning foe with his claws...just in time for Syme's second bolt of blue-white Essence to strike the target directly in the face. He struggles in Haifeng's grip but fails to free himself.

Yet, for all this damage, the attacker still stands...

------

Jesus. Arna does four levels of lethal damage and sets the fucker on fire. Haifeng does another level of lethal, and pins him - no more dodging or parrying until he can break free! And then Syme shoots him again, for another 8(!) levels of bashing damage. Congrats, EotW, you get a 3-die stunt, because I'm a nerd and that amused me. Blondrobin and Coyotekin get 2-die stunts, as does Arynne even though she didn't actually punch anybody. ;-)

And the interloper botches on his grapple roll.

Horror whitens Larissa's face as she senses the Essence of the Earth Dragon, perverted almost beyond recognition, flowing through the monstrosity.

"That thing..." she gags, nauseated, "...it was a...it's using Charms of Pasiap!" Her features twist with shame and disgust and she bounds forward, Essence-enhanced muscles aiming a shattering blow not at the thing's body but at one of the corrupt, necrotic blades where its hands should be.

The glittering storm of her anima, quiescent since the workshop, re-awakens now, swirling around them both like tiny particles of sand and rock, seeking to scour the unclean thing away.

Ledaal Coreen

Coreen panted, her heart beating near out of her chest; her friend Negevin said time was supposed to slow down when you were scared but everything was going fast, so fast, and the essence shot down her arm like a lightning bolt, gathering the winds that followed her into a whirling tangle in her hand, flapping her sleeve until it stung against her wrist, and she saw the glowing embers in the thing's skin like answers neatly written on a chalkboard.

The snarl of wind left her hand, whirling square at the still-burning monster, and Coreen thought for the briefest moment how much she'd always liked playing with fire.

Arna

Bemusedly, Arna watched the creature casually stand up from the injury from her spear only to be sent flying by another blast from Syme. As the other students move in to attack, each bringing to bear their own overwhelming elemental power, she rubs her chin for a few moments and finally comes to a decision.

"Good luck, guys, I'm gonna take a nap."

Pulling her hat down over her eyes, Arna leans her spear against a nearby tree and then sits down, pushing her back against the trunk. She got a chance to work off some steam, and now it was time to leave it to the crazy Dynasts and their magic. She was just a girl from the north with a spear, and it seemed this was a challenge aimed towards people with such crazy powers. Not much a spear could do to add to this fight.

Relaxing in the tree's shade even as the sounds of the fight continue, Arna sighs peacefully.

Hai Feng

He growled in annoyance at the utter lack of consideration of flames to a Water Aspect, who happened to be latched onto the creature, while against a tree.

Within moments he had removed his claws from the creature, letting the blades resheathe themselves in the gauntlet as he rolled backward and onto his feet at a safe distance in a defensive stance.

The Clearing, Finally

The strange Exalt howled in rage and pain as fires from Arna's attack leaped up around it, bolstered by Coreen's blast of wind. Larissa's brutal strike left a crack in one of the bone-blades, which leaked tiny green flames and a scent of hot brass. Hai Feng was quite right to dive away from the burning, bleeding wreck of an ex-Dynast.

And then things went very, very wrong. The burning figure began to laugh, a harsh and guttural sound, with unnatural undertones, and the reddish flames suddenly burned bright green. The laughing became louder and louder, the undertones becoming more like overtones, as the flames rose higher and higher...

And then he vanished in an explosion of smokeless green flames. When the students could open their eyes again, he was gone, the ground where he stood a blackened crater. Arna had taken the worst of the fires, but none of the rest were untouched. This, it can be presumed, was not supposed to happen.

------

As you can no doubt tell, BlondRobin has left. Anywho, !Earth Aspect asploded himself to damage everyone else. Main target was Arna, but everyone has taken some damage (2 levels of lethal damage, in the form of burns or shrapnel wounds). One student is down and out, you're a mile or so away from the school, and it's getting dark. Now what?

Hai Feng

He growled slightly at the turn of unfortunate events as he removed pieces of lumber turned shrapnel. He had managed to avoid most of it although still had gotten singed by the strange fires.

He was soon brushing himself off like nothing happened, taking a moment to look around and take stock of the others and their injuries. Seeing Arna out was not great, but what was he going to do about it.

He gathered Arna and her equipment up, or what survived and looked to the others. "Let's get that symbol and get out of here. The sooner the better."

Ledaal Coreen

Coreen opened her eyes half-expecting to see the monster standing over her, but the snow-covered forest canopy was the only thing that met her eyes at first. "Ohh," she groaned as she hauled herself out of the low bush she'd been blasted into, hoping absently that the Heptagram gardeners wouldn't fault her for the now-lopsided privet. Probably that's silly, but - ow - better than worrying if my ankle is just twisted or really sprained, and oh dragons, it's cold out and you'd think that would help with the burns but it really doesn't, and Mela help us, what are we going to do about Arna, and is that thing coming back?

The ankle held her weight, even with all the stabbing feelings shooting up her calf, and she made it over to the others without too much limping. "Is it dead? Could it come back? I don't even know any medicine but I guess she shouldn't be out here in the cold and is everyone else okay? Or okay enough, because I dunno about my ankle and all that green fire really hurt but we should probably take her back as fast as possible. Maybe one of us should run ahead while the others carry her? That way maybe one of the teachers or someone could meet us halfway."

Syme was on his back. In the instant the creature exploded, he'd been knocked off his feet and on the ground. For a second, he just lay there almost like he was appreciating nature, dumbfounded by what had just happened. Then, he started to feel it, a stinging numbness between his left shoulder and his neck.

A jagged piece of stone had embedded itself near Syme's collarbone. The stone smoked with unearthly heat, and so did the spot of flesh that had been hit. As Syme got up, the stone fell out. He was still in a bit of shock, and surprised in an almost clinical way by the lack of blood that should have accompanied that injury. A tender touch of the affected region confirmed what he should have suspected, the wound had been cauterized as soon as the hot rock had impaled him.

He tried getting up by moving his left arm as little as possible. Moving it stretched the injury, and that was painful. Picking his essence caster up off the ground with his right hand, Syme spoke to the group.

"We gotta get that symbol," Syme says. "And... oh man is... Arna going to be ok?"

Raising his caster skyward, Syme fires off a pair of energy bursts.

"There," he says. "Someone should at least see that."

Ledaal Larissa

Larissa felt herself lifted up by a giant hand and slammed against the trunk of a tree. When she came to herself again, she was sprawled on the ground, and her nostrils were full of an acrid odor. "I don't sleep with the help," she said muzzily, picking herself out of the musty-smelling litter of half-rotted leaves and dust.

She tried to put a finger into one of her ears, both of which were ringing badly, but she couldn't seem to get her hand steady enough. So she shook her head, instead. Her entire left side throbbed and tingled both with the impact and with a sensation like a heavy sunburn...or mild acid burns.

"I don't sleep with the help."

Hai Feng

I REALLY should've paid better attention to those healing classes. And damn if I tell those teachers they were right about needing it sometime down the road., he thought as he looked at his injured companions, all the while walking towards where they thought they had found the symbol.

-OOC: Anything he can do to start helping the process. He's not a Master in Occult, but he does have a clue at least.
