aila yustov
As the first in many Yustov generations to pull a major arcana, the expectations placed on Aila's shoulders are no small burden. If she doesn't take the throne, the least she could do was secure a position of power. The many pressures that surround her current position in life is enough to break a lesser person, but the young woman is able to bear it with a smile and laugh, even if it may occasionally come off as forced.
However, her lack of true resolution worries her more than she cares to admit, the least of which are her ambivalent feelings towards her engagement. Is she truly in love with her best friend, or is this a lie she feeds herself to find comfort in the arranged marriage? She doesn't want to look at it closely, instead carelessly throwing words of adoration towards her betrothed in an effort to cover up her less than true feelings.
Quite frankly, she doesn't want to graduate from the Academy; running the household and the political niceties involved in being an aristocrat are ill-suited for someone as go-with-the-flow as she is. Not to mention, there was a possibility that the World Arcana may manifest for her, as small as it seemed. Surely anyone else but her was better-suited, but the fact remained that it was possible. She'd take this one step at a time, and maybe one day she'd learn why she'd pulled the Star during her 8th birthday.

her magic is in defense and charm, winning the battle before the first strike. making a wish of protection, she painstakingly carves her words into both armor and weapon. the wind hears her hopes and carries them to the fight, where they aid whoever had been blessed with her power.

giles lexington
Giles struggles in the Academy, teaching the young hopefuls the art of combat. He's stuck dodging pitiful blows, extricating himself from student affections and navigating political waters. Truthfully, he'd much rather join the Royal Guard, but with the family coiffeurs empty, it's up to the young swordsman to line them. Certainly, gaining a position there would provide some, but with no war to win there was little reason for him to rise the ranks.
As a person, Giles is a charming individual with a smile as quick as his blade. He has little patience for people who try to goad him into battle; you either challenge him directly, or he simply walks away. And that's just it; he's forever seeking a fresh challenge, a new frontier. He makes no real secret of his restlessness, though he's much more hesitant to share the reasons for his shackles. His direct and straightforward nature makes him a likeable individual, if a bit frustrating to have as an instructor.

his magic is the quiet and subtle, to make his steps no louder than the breeze. in this same wind he hears what others would often not; it breathes in his ear where an enemy might lurk.
