Not really an RP, but I was hoping there would be some interested people.
The idea is stolen from an old forum that I used to frequent. A character based tournament; Every entrant would have a character, and the idea would be to have a bracket based writing tournament. Everyone would have the same basic plotline that brings their characters into the same place, with each bracket having an additional 'challenge' to add to their story.
Example: Your character is approached by a mysterious man in a suit. Without saying a word, he hands you an envelope and walks away. You open it and pull out a letter:
"Dear Friend,
Congratulations! You are one of many I have personally selected for my games! The fabulous prizes that await you for your participation include wealth far beyond your wildest dreams. You are also free to decline my invitaition... however, you will have to be removed. Buissness, I'm sure you'll understand.
Don't worry, I'm sure you'll find your prize well worth it. I even did a little extra 'research' to make sure you would be especially... appreciative. I apologize, but supplies are limited and only one can win. You'll have to eliminate the others. Play by my rules, and 'it' will be yours.
Oh, and one more thing?
The game starts now."
Entrants would use the above plotline to create an 'opening' using their character's reaction, which will drive their own personal 'plot'. This along with a well made character sheet would be your entry to the tournament.
After you get your bracket opponent, you will use their character sheet to enter them into your story. Both openings would be treated as 'canon', and both stories would try their best to stay true to the characters (As interpreted by the character sheet. Whoever writes a better story (as decided by a judge, or maybe popular vote) would win, and move on to the next bracket. The winning story will be considered cannon for the stories to come, and losing stories just non-canon. The longer you win, the more you'll end up writing, and the more your character will end up appearing in other stories.
A story entry would have to end in your character's victory, and the other's loss (But depending how skilled you are, that could be reinvented a little). Every bracket would have its own challenge/plot driver, or possibly every character may have a different "challenge" of sorts, as such:
"Dear entrant,
It seems a possession of mine has fallen into the hands that don't belong to me. Enclosed is a picture of a magical amulet. The location is a little townhouse in West Germany. Succeed, and you'll be one step closer to that goal of yours.
Oh yeah.
I've also sent another after it. A dashing fellow. I'm sure you could enjoy him. Don't flirt too much though. Remember, there can be only one winner.
Love, your game master"
In the interest of creator to character kindness, enemy characters should be written off in dire straights (Put on a bus, left for dead, questionably disappeared, etc.).
It's mainly for the fun of having people write your characters and the practice in making stories that would be judged by your peers, but I was hoping to have some sort of prize planned as well.
Anyone interested?
