Fantasy <<<WORLD~WAKE>>>

My eyes widened as Corvo stammered 'Big sis'. I thought they looked alike! It surprised me even more when Corvo shook his head at my question. How could he not know who his sister was?

"Hospital? Yes bu-"

I was cut off by the other lady, who again mentioned hospitals. I shook my head at her question. Even if I did have a car, I doubt it would drive through this terrain. I could tell by Corvo's expression that he clearly didn't remember this woman, who was claiming to be his older sister. A long lost sibling I would guess then. If they were only meeting now after so long, and if Corvo didn't remember, I had a feeling things would go so smoothly. Watching enough soap operas had taught me that. So before things could get possibly ugly, I piped up,

"Since a hospital is out of the question, we could continue with mine and Scarlett's plan, which was to get supplies from a nearby pharmacy. I was just about to leave but..."

I drifted off, feeling a little awkward but it was only for a moment as I noticed Corvo leaning more heavily against Scarlett.

"Anyways, I'll go now! Just stay here ok? I'll be right back!"

With that, I jogged off in the opposite direction towards the pharmacy.

What did she want me to get again?

Ashley had considered going back to her old hangout even after the police raid. The odds of them raiding the same place twice was kind of slim. She continued staring on the tv-screen, watching the devastation that had happen just an hour before. I a way she was lucky to have gotten arrested, she might have been in the middle of that.

“Guess I'll have to find somewhere else to crash”. She picked up her duffel bag and hung it over her her shoulder. So who had a couch to offer, the sudden realization froze her mid step. She put the bag back down and began rummaging through her pockets. There it was! The note with her sister's address. Yeah sister, she'd almost forget she had one at this point, they hadn't seen each other in years. She had reached out though and wanted them to “get close again” or whatever. She looked over the address and smiled wickedly, this would definitely work.

Jamie, Ashley's sister, lived in an upper-class neighbourhood, at this time of day it was fairly void of people. And good was that, Ashley thought and she looked over her shoulder for what was probably the tenth time, this part of the city actually had regular police patrols. She glanced at the note once more, comparing it to the numbering on the building. Well this was it for sure, she gave the apartment number one final look and tucked the paper away.

As she was walking up to the door someone from the inside opened it and there was that split second decision whether or not to break of for a second to avoid detection. Instead she took a few quick steps and held the door up with her hand. The woman exiting gave her a glance, “Good morning” Ashley greeted her with a smile. The woman passed and Ashley slipped inside. She climbed the stairs in a hurry, not wanting to run into anyone else.

Finally at the door she took a minute to study the lock, before knocking. There was no reply but she hadn't expected one at this hour, her sister was probably at work after all. She'd given the corridor a quick look-over but it didn't seem like there was anywhere to hide a key. She threw her bag down on the floor and unzipped it, digging through it's contents with her hands. She fished out her lockpicking kit and gave the corridor another careful glance. The lock wasn't overly complicated and it took her only a minute or so to open the door.

Ashley entered the room quickly and locked the door behind her, she wouldn't want anyone to break in after all. She retrieved her phone and her sister's note from her pocket. She considered calling first but decided against it and instead sent a text to the number. >Sup sis stuff happened so im crashing at your place for a bit c u when u get home<. She threw her phone on a the table and threw herself onto the comfy looking couch. Her sister had a nice place, she could definitely see herself taking advantage of this. She rested her feet on the table, muddying it with her boots, this was nice. “Hmm I wonder what she has in the fridge” she mumbled curiously.

Corvo's head felt heavy, causing him to literally sag against Scarlett, no more strength in his leg(s).

"J-Jamie Cooper?" He muttered as his eyes fluttered closed. 'Shit, shit. Not now, not now! I have so many questions..' He thought angrily, his mind shutting down as he felt the steady drip of blood coming from his injured leg.

"Well...fuck." He murmured softly, before passing out on Scarlett.

Arona Blackwell

As I crossed the expanse of shattered concrete and earth, I saw a pair of survivors rush away from the base of the tree. Under normal circumstances I would have considered helping them, but the tree that shadowed the city was my priority. Finally, after a minute of navigating the hazardous terrain, I reached the base. It was easily a bus-length in diameter, it's striated bark glittering in its silver hue. From my belt I retrieved my Reel-blade, a long knife with a blade attached to a retracting ten-foot cable, and stepped close to the almost glowing wood. Raising my left hand, I nervously touched the tree with my index finger, but there was no response. I then pressed my palm against the wood, but again the tree was empty of reaction.

Hmm, seems almost like any other tree so far, but I know that's not the case. Time to take this a step further.

Lifting the hand clutching my blade, I leveled it perpendicular to the tree, slowly moving it closer. As I did so, a slight groan emanated from within it and deep from the ground below. The sound caused me to hesitate, but I shook off the creeping feeling in my abdomen and moved the knife closer. After a few dreaded seconds of anticipation, and an increase in the volume of the moaning timber before me, I let the blade connect with the wood, ever so slightly. The world immediately turned upside down.

I felt myself launched into the air as the remaining ground at the base of the tree exploded beneath me, while massive silver roots propelled themselves after me. A heart wrenching sound burst forth, seemingly from everywhere, a noise like the screams of a million dying rabbits in unison. The squeal echoed across the entirety of the city.

"Agh-!" A guttural cry escaped my throat as one of the roots whipped across my abdomen violently. I was tossed dozens of feet backward back to the ground, but barely managed to activate my Armex in time, creating a cushion of energy beneath my body just before I collided with the concrete. Planting my feet firmly, I observed the mass of tentacle like roots that swayed around the tree, silver cobras waiting to strike me down should I venture near. I frowned as the deafening noise from before faded.

A sentient tree. Well, this is going to be a problem.

When he passed out, Jamie rushed to grab him. "S-shit! Let's put him down on the ground, we have to keep his leg elevated, so the blood won't rush out." She said to the other girls, helping them with putting Corvo down.

She rummaged through her bag, finding the expensive silk scarf, her step-mother had given her. Her blood was pumping fast and her nerves were on end. He had lost a lot of blood already. "S-sorry, Corvo, I have to take off your jeans!" She muttered to her baby brother, ripping his jeans apart from the hole, that had already been there. She tied her scarf around his thigh and tightened it hard. Thank god the silk is good quality. The scarf would slow down the blood-flow for now.

"We need some disinfectant and a lot of bandage!" Jamie looked after the girl, who had already run off to the pharmacy, hoping she would hear that.

They couldn't do much but wait. She put her bag under Corvo's head, easing his head off the asphalt ground. Crouching down, she knelt besides him, propping his hurt leg up on her thighs, so she could keep it elevated. Her phone vibrated.

She looked at it, hoping it would be a message from the ambulance. Her heart almost stopped when she read it. Unknown number, but she knew who it was. Quickly dialling the phone number, she called it. "Ashley! Are you alright? I need you to come down to the Grand Courtyard. Your brother is hurt... I'm here with him right now. Yes you have a brother, I'll explain it all when you get here."

Jamie ran a hand through her ginger locks, before sighing. Some reunion this was. Suddenly there were sounds of explosions coming from the giant silver tree. She feared for her life. What was even going on in their city? Putting a hand on Corvo's forehead, she wiped some of the dirt away from his face. He would have to be first priority for now.

All of Corvo's weight went on to Scarlett. She moved her arm, sagging a bit as she tried to support the unconscious man. Before she knew what was happening, the woman who was apparently his sister eased him onto the ground.

Crouching next to them, Scarlett looked at the now silk-bound wound. Right now the main two concerns were blood loss and infection. Hopefully Aya would be back soon. If not, she had a bottle of spirits in her bag that they could use for cleansing...but that would do little good with nothing to re-bandage the wound with afterwards. She tucked a loose wave of hair behind her ear, wondering how this situation had occurred.

Well, the universe didn't want me to be a recluse today.

She glanced up at Corvo's sister, her hair the same bright red shade as his. Her mouth wore a ghost of a smile, thinking of her own brother. She never knew what happened to him. As the newcomer started talking on her cell, Scarlett's thoughts wandered towards her family in this situation. Murmuring absently to Corvo, she looked at him lightly.

"You're gonna be okay. Just hang in there."

Luckily the pharmacy was still somewhat intact. I picked my way through the supplies, peering hard at the names and labels. There were so many different bottles, I wasn't sure what to take. I could recognise a few things like aspirin and paracetamol but other than that, I was at a loss.

Luckily, I found a first aid kit behind the counter and grabbed that. I also grabbed a few other things like syringes and several bottles and pills and chucked them in a small metal box.

I really should've sent someone else. God help me I hope I got the right stuff.

With both arms full of medical supplies, I exited the store. Suddenly, an ear-splitting shriek resounded throughout the city and I grit my teeth, my ears screaming in pain. A few moments later, it stopped and the ringing in my ears subsided.

What was that? It sounded like it was coming from the direction where everyone else is. What happened?

I broke out into a full sprint, my camera bag swinging around my neck. The bottles clinked loudly inside the box and I prayed that they would not break. It took some time but I was finally back the store. The first thing I noticed was that Corvo had passed out. The second thing; he wasn't wearing any pants. My face flushed red before I scolded myself that this wasn't the time to feel embarassed. I ran over to Scarlett, dumping everything by her side.

"Here's all the stuff! How's Corvo? He's not looking to great. Um, you know about doctoring right Scarlett?"

It was then that I heard a far-off cry coming from the direction of the tree. This one definitely sounded human. My first initial thought was that someone might be hurt. I jumped up, and raced towards tree, calling out like I had done with Corvo.

"Hello? Hello? Anyone there? Are you ok?"

City Map and Points of Interest

Update#1I have updated the roleplay with a visual map that players can use to determine locations for their characters. The map is divided into squares, called "zones" which cover one square mile. Every time a character enters a new zone, that player will include that in his/her post. I will use this information to frequently update the Maps section with character locations so everyone has an easy access reference.

The city will be player created, meaning that, aside from specific...

Ashley glanced at her phone buzzing on the table and finished the carton of orange juice, throwing it in the sink. Caller id said it was her sister “sup sis, how ya doin'?” she answered with a mischievous tone, half expecting a scolding for breaking in. Apparently it was about her brother who was injured or some nonsense like that. She wasn't completely sure why she should care but decided to play along for now, if she played her cards right she could have a really sweet deal going here. “yeye I'll be there or whatever, just gonna grab a shower first” she said with a barely audiable groan and hung up, throwing the phone onto the sofa. She unbuttoned her jeans and pulled of her top on the way to the bathroom, leaving in trail of clothes all over the floor.

She took a quick, warm shower she had to be somewhere after all but she still took the time to try everything on the shelves. She dried herself of quickly and wrapped her hair up in the towel before walking back out into the apartment. She was going to pick the clothes she'd left on the floor back up but they were all dirty so she went for her bag instead. After a quick rifling through made her realize all her clothes were filthy.

Suddenly she stood straight up as she had a brilliant idea. She walked into her sister's bedroom and opened the closet. There were more clothes in there than she'd thought. She flicked through real quickly but they all seemed a bit too... plain. She picked up some decent looking trousers and a shirt before going into the kitchen for a pair of scissors, she could fix these up to be wearable in not time.

Now where did she keep the underwear? Ashley wondered and opened another drawer.

"W-wait, Ash, you don't have time for a.... shower." Jamie stared at the phone that had been abruptly cut off. Jeez, that girl. As the asian girl came back from the pharmacy, Jamie took the first aid kit to get some disinfectant. She looked at the other girl, what was her name? "S-sorry I don't think I ever got your names. Scarlett, right?" She looked at the girl with dark, red hair, who had been holding Corvo earlier. "Are you good at this stuff?" She motioned towards the first aid kit, hoping the answer was yes. Jamie herself knew how to disinfect a wound but a wound this deep? It couldn't be that hard right? Disinfect and bandage, disinfect and bandage.

She grabbed some tissues from the box, cleaning away the excess blood to get a clear view of the wound. Feeling sick, she bit down on her tongue hard, making it bleed. Now wasn't the time to pass out from the sight of blood. It's your brother, for heavens sake, get yourself together.

The asian girl, she really needed to learn their names, suddenly raced towards the huge tree as the earpiercing scream from earlier had ringed through the air. "W-wait!" She tried to shout after her. The situation was already dangerous, Jamie would really rather they stuck together, but the girl had been fast and already run off. Not being able to leave her passed out little brother, she turned to Scarlett. "Okay. I'll disinfect it and you bandage it immediately after." She nodded towards the girl, throwing her the bandage-roll. Taking a deep breath, she got the disinfectant ready and thanked the gods that Corvo had already passed out. This might sting... a lot.

Aya was gone as soon as she returned. Scarlett blinked, but then focused her attention back onto the situation at hand. The gash in Corvo's leg needed to be treated properly to avoid infection and festering. She squinted her eyes, assessing the injury. Blood had never bothered her too much. In her mind, it was just part of the natural process. What bothered her was all that could go wrong with an open flesh wound as big as this.

Scarlett gave a small, reassuring smile to the ginger girl whose name she thought was Jamie? Nodding her head, she opened the bandage roll and readied herself.

"Don't worry, you can do it. Just pour it over, and wipe it off. I'll help you look for any debris that might be lodged in the gash."

Scarlett, nose crinkled at the smell of blood, leaned her head closer. She rolled up her sleeves, and used a bit of gauze to pick little bits of drywall and plaster from the wound in Corvo's leg. Wadding up the bloody cotton, she lifted her gaze back to Jamie and gave a nod.

"Go ahead and disinfect it. I got the bandages and medi-tape ready for when you're done."

Darkness... He was drifting through eternal darkness... Well, obviously he was dreaming, although he didn't remember going to bed. The darkness seemed to be never ending.... Yeah, that's why it's eternal. The darkness was... Right, that's it. Enough of this dream.

"Wait, where the hell am I?" Mikhael was in a room he knew he'd never seen before, the main giveaway that he was somewhere not good was the barred window letting in some faint light.

His head ached and gingerly (hahah ginger-ly, get it?) he reached up and touched the throbbing portion, a frown settling on his lips when his prodding digits found a puffy, swollen lump. Well, logic would point to him being knocked out by a blunt force and now he was in... Jail? No, this wasn't a jail cell. It was a house for sure. A dirty, messy, old house, but a house nonetheless. At least he wasn't tied... oh. Around his left ankle was an iron shackle with a chain that attached to the leg of the bed. Great. At least it seemed to be a decent length and he got to his feet slowly before shuffling over to the window. His fingers curled around the bars and his forehead rested against it, the light stinging his eyes slightly and making him squint.

Most of his view was blocked by rubble and ground, which of course gave the ginger no idea where he was. If it wasn't for the faint sounds of people talking he'd have assumed he was in a ruins somewhere. What had happened here? With a heavy sigh, Mikhael tugged on the bars, just in case they were poorly fitted.

Nope. Stuck fast.

Goddammit.

Well, now it was time to see what else he could find and formulate a plan of escape. No tacky, dirty room would hold him!

A sharp pain sent a huge, painful electrical shock up his spine, making his brain explode awake. This might be exaggerated, and Corvo was no wuss but shit...it felt like HELL BURNING INTO HIS SKIN.

Wide awake now, he bit deep into his lips and made the most ridiculous whimpers as he watched his 'sister' disinfect his wound. The voices of Scarlett and Jamie flowed into his red-coloured ears. He was in fucking pain, maybe even in more pain when he was stuck underneath a huge bit of Virgo Record's roof.

Closing his eyes once again, he wiped some sweat from his forehead. "P-please hurry. This is so...excruciating." Corvo managed to whimper.

@khuyen @Ashmorne

She searched around for a bit, looking for the source of the cry. After a while, she started to doubt whether she had heard that at all. She frowned and bit her lip, wondering why she felt so disappointed.

He's not there after all...

Aya flinched at her own thought and sighed, an anxious frown twisting her face further. Realising that there was no one around, Aya decided to walk back to the group and see how Corvo was doing. She trudged back towards them, trying to work up a smile. Finally, the corners of her mouth turned up just as Scarlett's fiery red hair came into view. Her and Jamie were both working on Corvo's wound so Aya decided not to disturb them. Instead, she spoke to Corvo.

"Heya!"

He looked terrible, his forehead glistening with sweat and his lip starting to bleed where he had sunk his teeth into. I have to distract him!

"I don't think I've properly introduced myself before! Hi, I'm Aya Tachibana! Did you know my last name means orange? Actually, you should be the one with my last name since your hair colour is the same as an orange! Haha, my bad that wasn't a very good joke was it? So, I'm a photographer and I like cats! Now's your turn! Tell me about yourself!"

Jamie was startled, when Corvo suddenly awoke, whimpering. "A-argh, I'm so sorry!" She had started to panic already, feeling the cold sweat drip down her back. "Uh, so I'll just start?!" She almost shouted, before dipping the disinfectant cloth into his wound. There's so much blood, so much blood, so much blood. She bit her lip hard, drawing even more blood as she just kept cleaning the wound, trying to ignore her baby brother's screams of pain. It had helped that Aya kept ranting on, trying to distract Corvo.

"O-okay, just a little bit more!" She finished disinfecting everything properly after what felt like hours to her, but had probably only been a few minutes. "H-hurry and bandage it!" She told Scarlett as she grabbed a water bottle from her bag. "Here, drink this, Corvo..." She put the bottle to his lips, hoping he wouldn't feel awkward about it. He seriously needed to hydrate himself. She wiped off the sweat on his forehead.

"You should be fine now, Corvo... You've always been so stubborn, it won't take long till you're back on your feet again." She told him quietly, feeling nervous now that he was conscious again. Turning to Aya, she looked at her quizzically. "Did you find anyone, when you ran off? I swear I heard a weird... scream of some kind."

On The Way To... Freedom? Part One: Being A Prisoner Sucks

They really hadn't left him anything at all to get out of here, well, duh, of course they didn't. So far he had found... some loose rocks. Some dirt. Some more dirt. Some more rocks and of course, the shackle that tied him to the bed. He scowled at it and jerked his leg, the chain reaching it's limit, going taunt and clinking. Ugh. If only he didn't have this, it'd be a million times easier.

"Stupid goddamn chain." He sighed, then looked at the bed.

Wait.

It wasn't attached to the floor.

Those smart, smart people...

A sudden burst of hope filled energy had Mikhael leaning down and with a grunt, he slowly began to lift the old wrought iron bed frame up. It was heavy, so heavy, but it was now or never. Just as the foot of the bed was high enough for him to slip the chain out, he lost his grip and the bed crashed loudly against the floor. Chest heaving, the ginger sunk onto the bed, pretty sure he'd strained something.

Being a prisoner sucked.
