It is the year 2115 A.D.
5 years after an extra terrestrial excursion into sol space. The resulting conflict was long and bloody. However the ET forces were eventually pushed back. It was a Pyrrhic victory. Humanity was decimated. Still is. But the future looks bright. With the newly acquired ET tech a group was formed to prevent such things from ever happening again. The new born WDA (World defense agency) quickly began construction of orbital defenses and heavily invested in the recruitment program. All the worlds governments not wanting another invasion scenario quickly jumped behind WDA and gave it their full support. The future looks bright for humanity.
A FEW MILES OUTSIDE N. NEW YORK
Mike loved astronomy. He loved it before the war and he still loves it now with a passion. And a purpose. Mike joined MDA as soon as the opportunity presented himself. They gave him the best observation equipment currently on the market. So it was practically blinding when the sky lit up like an inferno. A large cylinder came crashing into the atmosphere still being bombarded by advanced shells and missiles from the defenses in orbit. The ground shook as it landed with a deafening CRACK! Mike like so many other WDA observers in the damaged city was tapping away at his communicator with a stunned look on his face. There was no way to hide that from the public. They'd know that WDA failed.
A FEW HOURS LATER UNDER THE CITY HOSPITAL
Silently it mourned. All its brothers and sisters died when their home came crashing down. Even their seemingly invincible mother was caught in the flames. However it survived. And it had a purpose. It can create a new family. Yes. Clicking and clacking the thing's head looked up at all the slight vibrations and heat signatures. Yes that'd do just nicely.
