Realistic or Modern World at War: USSR [1943] - CS

idalie

Roleplay Availability
Roleplay Type(s)
It's 1943, the world is at war. While the west named it 'World War Two', the Russians took another name - 'The Great Patriotic War'. 20 million would lose their lives fighting against the Reich; brave men and women who took up arms to battle tooth and claw for a future without oppression.

You can be anything from a tank driver, medic, pilot, sniper, infantry - just keep it realistic!

All characters will be stationed around and between Kursk or Stalingrad. Remember, interaction is what keeps roleplays rolling!

Be a woman, man, or a bear. Just be cautious! If your character is homosexual or trans, think of the timeframe we're in! You'll have to hide it or be ostracised - possibly worse!

PERSONALITY:
Dimitri is a zealous patriot who will do anything to get his mission done. He is a carefree commander whose political indoctrination does not cloud his judgment on his mission or his men. He places his duty above those of ideological struggles. Dimitri is a calm, and cool-headed person, but like most of his comrades, will display extreme emotions under stress and pressure.

BACKGROUND:
Dimitri lied about his age to get into service in the Great War. Having seen little actions in the trenches, he later participated in the Red Revolution and fought the White Army until the unification of the motherland. Dimitri spent his post-war life in the outskirts of the Ural Mountains as a farmer, away from the cities. Little is known of what he does in the inter-war period. But when the German army began its march on the Motherland, Dimitri grabbed his Obrez and re-enlisted in the army. Because of his capabilities with an improvised, broken BT-7 light tank in the battle for Odessa, he was later re-assigned in the 1st Guards Tank Corps. From the siege of Stalingrad, he continued to fight and climbed his ways through the ranks quickly. His reserved field tactics were more or less preferred by his commanders, but it helped in preserving the losses his nation had sustained thus far.

OTHER:

- Dimitri tends to disregard the political officers' effort to mass-infantry charges. This led to an uneasy dealing between him and any political officers/commissars.

+ Worked on a farm for several years, he tends to grow and tend to his crops at every camp he's assigned to. He places them in a wooden box and take them with him every where he is deployed to. If his crops are shot up in battle, he will return fire a thousand times fiercer.

Val.
Reputation has earned her the title 'Ubiytsa'.

AGE:
29 years old.

CORPS:
25th Rifle Division.

RANK:
Major.

PRIMARY WEAPON:
7.62mm Mosin Sniper Rifle, with PU Optical Sight.

SECONDARY WEAPON:
TT Pistol.

PERSONALITY:
Right off the bat, people can find that Valentina is a strict woman who doesn't take kindly to silliness and ignorance. She takes her role as a sniper very seriously, and treats all situations with a careful precaution one can only learn from the tragedies of war. Though some might think of her as bossy and stoic, she does manage to crack the occasional joke with those fighting alongside her - she's just fully aware of what happens if you don't take the battle seriously.
Valentina often goes out of her way to prove that she isn't 'lady-like', smoking with the men and acting just as stubborn and aggressive as them on the field. It's one of the reasons she joined the war - to prove that women could be as valuable to the war as anybody else. She's also incredibly loyal to a fault, and will gladly put her life on the line for her comrades. Her division is like a family to her, and she'll lose no sleep over having to kill to protect them.

BACKGROUND:
Valentina enlisted in the war due to her own stubbornness, wanting to prove that she could be more than just a nurse or propaganda maker. Growing up she knew all about guns, having been hunting for her own game since she was a little girl. Her lifelong skills aided her greatly in the time leading up to the war, precision letting her hit the targets and practice allowing her to be quick about it. However, Valentina wanted something more, and it wasn't long before she was trying out for a sniper position. Much to the surprise of the male-dominated class, she was a natural, and it wasn't long before she was fighting the war alongside her comrades with a Mosin Rifle in her possession.
Her aggression with the sniper as well as her ever-increasing kill ratio earned her the respect she'd always worked for, and through the years of serving her nation she climbed the ranks until she became a major. Though it isn't the highest rank by far, it's successful in showcasing what a valued shooter of the war she is, and how hard she's fought to prove herself. Valentina aims to continue doing so until an enemy bullet steals her last breath.

OTHER:

  • The downside of being a primary sniper in the war is a shortage of opportune vantage points and time potential. Though she's just as deadly with a pistol as she is with a rifle, Valentina is most in her element when she can lay down and take her time with the shots. When she's forced to retreat, or when she's travelling quickly over rough terrain with her division, unfortunately she can't always do what she does best.
  • An accomplishment that's earned her respect by her division is her success in counter-sniping, where she'd spend hours in solitary battle with other enemy snipers. Needless to say, she's gotten used to sleepless nights on end.
  • Valentina is heavily inspired by a heroine of mine - Lyudmila Pavlichenko, AKA 'Lady Death'.

HE FIGHTS OUT OF LOVE FOR HIS COUNTRY AND FELLOW COUNTRYMEN, NOT FOR A LEADER WHO WOULD FLING MEN TO THEIR DEATHS. BACKGROUND:
SULTAN AZIZOVICH NURSULTANOV (СУЛТАН АЗИЗОВИЦЧ НУРСУЛТАНОВ) IS A KAZAKH-MONGOLIAN ORIGINALLY FROM THE TUVAN REGION OF RUSSIA'S FAR EAST THAT GREW UP HOWEVER, IN ZYRYANOVSK OF THE KAZAKH SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLIC. FOURTH SON TO A PAIR OF FARMERS, A KAZAKH FATHER AND A MONGOLIAN MOTHER BOTH OF WHOM FOUGHT UNDER THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE'S BANNER IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR. HIS EARLY LIFE WASN'T EASY, LIFE IN ZYRYANOVSK WASN'T MADE EASY BY THE CONDITIONS AND LOCATION, BEING SUB ZERO 100 PERCENT OF THE TIME AND BEING WELL AWAY FROM ANY KEY STRATEGIC ZONES CRITICAL TO SOVIET SUPREMACY MADE SURE OF THAT. HE WORKED ON HIS FATHER'S FARM, LABOURING JUST AS HARD AS ANY OTHER, HUNTED FOR HOURS WITH A BOW AND RARELY A RIFLE AND ALSO WALKED MILES TO SCHOOL THROUGH THE THICKEST OF SNOW AND ICE ALL YEAR ROUND. SULTAN MANAGED TO SCRAPE AN EDUCATION, IT WASN'T THE BEST BUT IT WAS ENOUGH TO TEACH HIM WHAT THE MODERN WORLD CONSIDERED A BASIC NECESSITY.

WHEN HE TURNED TWENTY, SULTAN WAS CONSCRIPTED INTO THE RED ARMY, ALMOST A FULL YEAR BEFORE HIS DRAFT WAS DUE. SULTAN TRIED MANY THINGS, HE WROTE WHAT HE COULD TO THE VERY FEW LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES BUT HIS PLEADS TO BE REASSESSED WERE NOT ADDRESSED. UNKNOWN TO HIM THE SETTLEMENT'S CONSCRIPTION QUOTA FOR THAT YEAR HAD NOT BEEN MET REMOTELY AND AS A RESULT MANY MEN HIS AGE WERE UNFORTUNATELY CALLED UPON. WHILE HE WASN'T AGAINST SERVICE, HE DIDN'T BELIEVE HE WAS READY AND FELT HE HAD BEEN DEALT AN UNJUST HAND. REGARDLESS OF THIS, HE FULFILLED HIS DUTY, ATTENDED WHAT TRAINING WAS PROVIDED AND WAS SOON SHIPPED OUT TO HIS UNIT.

NURSULTONOV SERVED DURING THE BOARDER CONFLICTS OF THE SOVIETS AND JAPANESE FROM LATE 1934 WELL INTO THE MIDDLE OF 1939. HE DIDN'T SEE ANY POINT TO THE FIGHTING AND SILENTLY PROTESTED TO IT BUT AFTER BEING INDIRECTLY TARGETED ON BOARDER POSTS AND PARTICIPATING IN NUMBER OF DEADLY CLASHES THAT, ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, LEFT A NUMBER OF HIS FRIENDS DEAD, SOON MANY OF THESE ENGAGEMENTS RESULTED IN HE HIMSELF RETURNING TRAINED, ACCURATE, PURPOSEFUL FIRE ON HIS FOES. NURSULTANOV'S EVENTUAL RELEASE FROM SERVICE WAS A YEAR OVERDUE, AS HE HADN'T BE PUT DOWN ON THE LIST OF ACCEPTED CONSCRIPTS UNDER HIS BIRTH NAME UNTIL HE HAD TURNED 21, BUT HE HAD COME TO ENJOY HIS TIME AND THE FRIENDSHIPS THAT WERE MADE UNDER THE RED ARMY'S BANNER.

SULTAN RETURNED HOME BRIEFLY BEFORE TAKING ALL THAT BELONGED TO HIM AND MOVED TO WESTERN KAZAKHSTAN, BUT HIS TIME RESTING WAS SHORT LIVED WHEN THE WAR BEGAN TO PICK UP. HE RETURNED TO SERVICE BUT THIS TIME ENLISTED INTO THE RED NAVY, NOT OUT OF PATRIOTISM BUT BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE HE THOUGHT HE WAS LEAST LIKELY TO DIE. HOWEVER HIS TIME SPENT IN THE RELATIVE SAFETY OF A SHIP WAS JUST AS SHORT LIVED AS HIS TIME RESTING, WHEN THE DEMAND FOR MORE GROUND CAPABLE COMBATANTS AROSE, NURSULTANOV, CONSIDERED AN IDEAL CANDIDATE TO DUE TO ARMY SERVICE, WAS AMONG THE INITIAL NUMBER CHOSEN TO INCREASE THE NAVY'S GROUNDSIDE CAPACITY AND IN LATE 1940 BACK ON THE DIRT FROM WHICH HE CAME, HE EMBRACED IT BUT ALSO RESENTED IT. HE'S FOUGHT AT SEA AND TRUDGED THE SLUDGE ONTO LAND. CRAWLED THROUGH CORRIDORS UNDER FIRE AND JUMPED OUT OF WINDOWS TO EVADE DEATH. ALL FOR A MOTHERLAND WHOSE METHODS HE OFTEN QUESTIONS BUT LACKS NO MOTIVATIONS TO FIGHT FOR.

OTHER:
PHYSICALITY - SULTAN IS A MAN OF SPEED, STAMINA AND ENDURANCE. YEARS OF LABOURING AND LONG DISTANCES HAVE TRANSFORMED HIM AND WHILE NOT THE STRONGEST OF MEN HE IS DEFINITELY NOT AN EASY MAN TO FIGHT.
PERFORMING - EVEN AS A SOLDIER, SULTAN FINDS TIME TO INDULGE HIMSELF WITH THE LITTLE THINGS OF HIS CULTURE SUCH AS THROAT SINGING AND GUITAR PLAYING AND ALSO EMBRACING HIS INNER CHILD WITH DANCING AND THE GENERAL FOOLISHNESS THAT KEEPS A SOLDIER SANE.

HE KNOWS HOW TO SHOOT, BUT NURSULTANOV KNOWS HE IS DEFINITELY NO COUNTER-SNIPER AND TAKES GREAT PRIDE IN HIS ABILITY TO ASSIST THESE LEGENDS EVEN IF IT IS JUST AS A HUMBLE SPOTTER. [Vladimir Vasily Petrov in Eastern Poland, March 1940]

HEIGHT:

WEIGHT: 70KG
GENDER: Male
NAME: Vladimir Vasily Petrov
ALIAS:
AGE:
42
CORPS: 54th Rifle Division
RANK: Senior Sergeant
PRIMARY WEAPON: PPD-40
SECONDARY WEAPON: Nagant M1895 Revolver

PERSONALITY:
Vladimir, before the Toropets-Kholm Offensive [January 1942], was observed and noted as a carefree leader, despite his age. It's also been noted that he's extremely loyal and brave, even in the darkest hours. It should also be noted that Vladimir served in the Red Army from 1917 - 1919 during the Civil War, thus should be considered a patriot. After the Offensive in 1942, Vladimir has been rather distant than usual and often caught staring blankly into the distance. This change in behaviour has been informed and noted.

BACKGROUND:
Vladimir was born in [REDACTED], located near the Belorussian border. His father worked as a tailor and mother as a school teacher. When the Revolution broke out in Moscow, he and his townsfolk hung Tsar sympathisers. He later joined the Red Army and spent the most of the war stationed near the Urals. After the war, Vladimir returned to his hometown. From 1920, he was happily married and has had 2 children.

Vladimir was drafted back into the Red Army in 1936 and was later stationed near the Polish border until 1939, when he was stationed in Eastern Poland. In 1941, when the Fascist Reich attacked, Vladimir was pushed back to defend the outskirts of Tula and to prevent the Germans breaking Soviet resistance in the area.

Vladimir was then moved, to participate in the Toropets-Kholm offensive, where he regained control of his hometown. When searching for his family, he discovered that his parents and wife were killed in the German invasion, while his oldest son [who served as a private] was captured as a POW. [His remaining family, his youngest daughter, is currently serving as a partisan in Belorussia.] Vladimir was then ordered to round up suspected traitors and execute them. It should be noted that he expressed his patriotism for the motherland when he personally executed [REDACTED] out of the captured [REDACTED]. However, medical analysts suggest this may have played a factor in Vladimir's change in mood.

After the offensive, he was sent to reinforce the area near Stalingrad. Intelligence reports suggest that the Germans are preparing a large offensive force in order to capture the city. Vladimir and his unit are expected to encircle the Germans after they've invaded most of the city.

OTHER:
- Vladimir is a 'connoisseur' of tobacco, he'll often strip the cigarettes off German bodies to smoke and ask his units to bring him dead bodies.
- He has been noted as an impressive interrogator, despite him not knowing sufficient German to communicate, thus needs an interpreter.

PRIMARY WEAPON:

SECONDARY WEAPON:

PERSONALITY:

-Alexei appears to be a modest young man who cares for his comrades and carries out his duties with extreme responsibility and reliability. He'd always try to cheer up his mates and watch their backs in battle, as well as being supportive and encouraging.
-Alexei also has a burning passion for music.

BACKGROUND:
Alexei is a young man from the capital of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Moscow, and not much is known before that. There, he owned a small instrument store in an alleyway amidst the busy city, and taught music to the children in the neighbourhood. Due to his caring and loveable nature, the young man was loved and respected in their small community.

The peace did not last. Alexei's life took an unexpected turn when the forces of the German Reich invaded the Motherland with a disgusting surprise attack. The invaders advanced savagely and relentlessly, killing and robbing, leaving corpses, burnt villages and orphans as they marched towards Moscow. Hearing the call of duty, Alexei volunteered into the capital's defender, carrying his accordion with him. He did this willingly with hope and cheer in his heart, as he knew he would fight for the children and his home. And like that, Alexei stood among the legends who stopped the Germans' brutal advance. In the trenches surrounding the capital city, they talked about a young soldier who manned a machine gun nest all by himself, and sounds of the accordion could be heard from his foxhole after the fights, like a cheer for the survivors and a mourn for the dead.

Little is known about what Alexei did after the Battle of Moscow, though he most likely followed his division as the Red Army rushed the cursed invaders out of the Motherland. Now, he's a young gunner positioned near Kursk with his unit, as the fascists are about to strike with their last breaths.

OTHER:
-Alexei doesn't pay much attention to his achievements on the battlefield like kill rate and such.
-He would play his accordion whenever he gets the chance. This may be due to his previous occupation as a music teacher, or passion.
-When he volunteered, he was diagnosed with certain minor psychiatric disorders, including homicidal ideation.

Radio operator, Engineering Private

PRIMARY WEAPON:
AVS-36 rifle

SECONDARY WEAPON:
Soviet issued combat knife

PERSONALITY:
Daughter of a telecommunications worker, Val has spent her childhood surrounded by pieces of radios and technology enough that she could take it apart and put it back together with her eyes closed. Although unassumingly meek and quiet, Riya is one of the best radio operators and engineers on her side of Russia. With a fascination for how things fit together and can be taken apart, her role in the war in a predominantly male environment was fraught with hardships; similar to the many other women who had the pressure piled high to see whether or not they'd stand up to the same excellence of their male counterparts. Nevertheless, as they say, diamonds are made under pressure and Valeriya was one of the brightest. She was assigned to the legendary Tank Army, where living among men Val put up with puns and enough lewd jokes to last her a lifetime. She silenced them, after throughout the hard-fought battling to win Stalingrad from the Nazi's she actively ducked into fire to repair vehicles and radio transmitters. Small as a lamb, fiercer than a lion began the saying, which ultimately became something she, herself was proud of being known for. Sharing a maternal side, Val would never dream of renouncing her feminity, continuing to dye her hair blonde; fashioning scarves from parachute material and not hiding her love of flowers, which she picks at every available occasion, favouring red tulips. Making bouquets and keeping them in the pockets of the interior of the tanks, which are promptly discarded by the male soldiers who share the space.

BACKGROUND:
Born in Leningrad, 1922, she grew up in a carefree life. Attending school and absorbing communist ideals unconsciously, but never taking a major interest in academics, but instead the newest actresses and female revolutionaries, or models of planes and tanks. An odd girl, but a dreamer nonetheless. Her father worked with telecommunications, his workbench somewhere she deeply enjoyed being involved, playing in spare parts. Pulling apart bikes and putting them back together, building her first radio, - one might ask where her mother was in all of this, but the unfortunate factor was she had passed away after birth. Leaving Valeriya to be raised by her father and two grandmothers. Instilling a sense of hard-nosed Russian femininity and masculine hobbies.

When the war broke out in 1941 she fought tooth and claw to be involved. Only to be shoved in an office behind the lines and told to run the communications. Proving herself time and time again, come 1942, she was allowed in the field albeit not the frontlines. 1943? Her luck came to change. Thrust into the heat of battle.

Lieutenant

PRIMARY WEAPON:
Aviation craft: Yakovlev Yak-1

SECONDARY WEAPON:
Nagant M1895

PERSONALITY:
Sarcastic and aloof, Leonid is an intellectual turned fighter. A strong believer in Bolshevism and aspects of Stalin's leadership gives him an unshakable faith that the church never could offer. Stoutly atheist, he often jokes that when he dies he'll end up in hell among heroes. However, controversially, Leo is unconcerned with homosexuality and other LGBT groups which were decriminalised under Lenin (alas again criminalised under Stalin). Although only thirteen when Lenin died, the pilot is an avid reader of his writings, coupled with Marx, Engles, and other heroes of the proletariat. As far as it goes, he's never been interested in men himself, but love life shouldn't be determined by Christianity nor archaic structures and divides used to control such as race, sexuality, or gender - the bane of Western Civilisation. Leonid is a man with a futuristic mindset for his time, enlightened by what he calls the truth. A leader when needed, and a good eye for planning. His tenacity and stubbornness in the face of defeat is morale at it's finest. The lieutenant truly believes he's fighting for a better world, one where every man, woman, and child are free, fed, and comforted. He's attracted the attention of the NVKD for comments on the conditions of the Gulags and making jabs at the regime, but not enough to get himself arrested or thrown off duty.

BACKGROUND:
Born to a doctor in Moscow, 1911, his family were hardly the type you'd see marching with the factory workers against the Tsar. But they did. His father was an avid revolutionary, working beside the Bolsheviks - his mother far more agreeing to the Menshevik ideals, before following Lenin after the party split. His father was imprisoned for this behaviour and wasn't seen again till after the October revolution, at which point Leonid had been sent to live with his Aunt in the countryside in 1916 at the age of five. Returning home once the fighting had stopped, 1922 with the end of the civil war. At that time, now an eleven-year-old boy who was easily indoctrinated into the communist regime.

Attending Moscow State University at twenty, in 1931 he got a degree in Literature, which began his mindful expansion as he read into the core of communism. His life was fairly quiet afterwards, finding work as a journalist and author, hoping to one day reach the status of Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky. Having short-lived romances with women and becoming more than an academic but bordering on artist.

Then the war began. 1941, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact had been terminated by Hitler launching Operation Barbarossa. Immedaitely, the country went into a frenzy of war. Leonid, dove at his chance of becoming a war hero, as most men desire to be, and signed up for the air force. His training taking half the amount of time it should've, but it was better to get men out into the air rather than waste time. They packed 32 weeks of training into four months.

Leonid, has outlived his original squadron and fellow pilots he trained with, leaving him the last of their group to successfully have over 15 solo kills and 8 aided.

OTHER:
Wears a red silk scarf, and is known among some regiments of those serving at Kursk and Stalingrad as red-ragger, due to the crimson paint streaked down the sides of his craft.

Artem is a fairly outgoing person, and he is not one to shy away from a conversation. Artem enjoys time with close friends and family and will be very open to those he trusts. Artem is not usually one to be violent, however, he is prone to aggressive outbursts or even lashing out if he is provoked. Artem tends to bottle up his frustrations and anger, letting them fester. This will often result in huge reactions from small occurrences. Artem is not aware of this problem, and many of his friends saw this only as Artem's normal behavior. Besides his somewhat dark areas, Artem is capable of friendly interaction. Artem is known for his humor among friends and kindness with family, as well as being well-mannered. One aspect sticks out more than most; Artem is considered to be very loyal to those he trusts. He had even placed loyalty into that of the Motherland. Mainly the cause for military service, Artem views his beloved country with the highest regard and respect, and will not hesitate to give his life for his family, or the Motherland.

BACKGROUND:
Artem was born to a watch-maker in Dubovka, a town residing a few kilometers outside the city of Stalingrad. His family household totaled at seven members; it was comprised of his father; Vasily, his mother; Elena, and his four brothers; Andrei, Petya, Sergei, and Timur. Artem was the second youngest, with Andrei being the oldest, and Timur boing the youngest. They all shared a single home, with the four brothers sharing one room. The Knyazevs were not a wealthy family, despite his father's occupation. Artem's parents would often have trouble with putting food on the table. However, they were fairly contempt with their current lives. Artem and his brothers often spent their time exploring the rural countryside, helping their father at the family shop, or off to find the attention of a few women. One thing all four of them shared was their views of their beloved motherland and the teachings of the Bolsheviks. His parents, however, did not want to be a part of the revolution; they feared the cost of unnecessary bloodshed. With Artem and his brothers pledging their allegiance to their country, they often went to political rallies or off to gawk at the majesty of the Red Army. Soon the house grew smaller to this end, with Andrei, Sergei, and Petya left to enlist. Now the remaining brothers: Artem and Timur were left to their meager lives. Artem did not want to enlist. This was not that Artem was afraid of dying for the motherland, he was afraid to leave his frail parents behind. He feared the war would take them before age could get the chance. Artem also wanted to be there for Timur, as it seemed his close family was disappearing. For the next year, Artem spent most of his time with his father and planned to inherit the shop once his father finally passed. This dreamed was dashed on seemingly normal Wednesday morning. Artem was going through the normal shop-opening routine; he made sure the shop was clean and the merchandise made presentable. It was then a strange customer entered the shop. He remained silent until Artem approached. The stranger then revealed a small revolver from his coat. The stranger demanded several watches and the shop's earnings. He then became more violent as Artem refused. Vasily, Artem's father, emerged disgruntled from the back of the shop. Vasily then engaged with the criminal and attempted to wrestle away the weapon. To Artem's dismay, this altercation ended with a thunderous boom, and Vasily collapsed to the floor. The stranger then bolted for the door as Artem screamed. Artem then sprinted after the murderer in a blind rage. He made chase into an alleyway. Artem had caught up with the stranger, and he tackled the vagrant. The stranger again tried to direct his weapon, but Artem overpowered the man with brute force. With the gun now in Artem's hand, he pressed the barrel under the man's chin and pulled the trigger. Artem became a killer that day. In a series on unfortunate events, Artem was convicted of murder. He was then given the choice to either serve life in a Gulag, or face certain death in a penal infantry battalion.

OTHER:
Artem has not seen any of his family since the event; neither his brothers or his parents.

[Vladimir Vasily Petrov in Eastern Poland, March 1940]

HEIGHT:
6'1"

Accepted!!
