I was thinking of a wizard gift regarding bodily manipulation, most conventionally used for healing, but can also be for transformations and attacks. I was thinking the word for a wizard with this gift could be "somatist" but then I googled it and found that the word already describes a specific school of thought in psychiatry. Although, given that this is alternate history rp anyway, and in a time period which predates modern psychiatry, would it even matter?

Also, I'm thinking of making one of my characters be one of General Pulaski's soldiers. Do you suppose that would fit?

Or maybe Kościuszko's.

Any of those Polish dudes from the time period, really.

Poland! hell yeah! i was thinking a Baron Von Steuben type, but if you want to take the Ally from the Continent, then I can figure out another charictar idea. likely a redcoat, noble born with parlimentary ambitions, but a second son so his father's seat in the house of lords (as well as the estate) will pass over him.

Still interested in this. Probably only going to play one cryptid character, so currently deciding between the Mothman and Jersey Devil. I’m also going to probably play a human character, though I have to do a little research before even attempting a character concept.

I’m thinking of making a Frenchman who doesn’t really care about the whole revolution, he just wants to shoot some British people… Though, I also kind of want to make, like a farmhand boy with that one writing gift

Interestingly enough, I was considering a farmer with the Landwarden gift. Maybe your character could be working on the same farm?

Oh I’d totally be down for that!

So I’ve decided to go with the Jersey Devil, as I remembered that I had a non-roleplay related story idea for the Mothman, so I’ll save all of my creative juices related to him for that.

Also because I’m so Canadian, I’m thinking of maybe making a wizard from the part of the New World colonies that would become Canada come down to help fight in the Revolution in a bid to have autonomy for all of the New World. I have no idea if this even remotely accurate to what happened, so perhaps someone more knowledgeable could come and give me a hand with this character’s lore.

Sounds good to me!! :closed eyes open smile:

EmperorNorton1 EmperorNorton1 is our resident history expert if you have any questions!

Alright I’ve decided on two characters. First is the Jersey Devil. Born the thirteenth son of the witch Deborah Leeds, with rumors of the father being the actual devil, he would be born a regular baby, only to transform into the monstrous Jersey Devil. Mother Leeds would then hide the creature, raising it in the Pine Barrens. Eventually British soldiers would find the Jersey Devil and separate him from his mother. Taken back to England, the Jersey Devil would become a scientific curiosity. Eventually after many years he would escape, traveling with a friendly wizard back to the New World. He would then remain on the outside of civilization, only really interacting with fellow monsters and wizards. When the revolution started, the Jersey Devil fought for the revolution, as he hated the British.

My other character is a wizard, haven’t decided what kind, who is from Canada. Being classically trained in the magic arts under the British tradition, this wizard is focused on maintaining order, viewing the British Empire as a good thing. When the fighting started in the American colonies, this wizard would volunteer for the 1st Canadian Regiment in Quebec. Primarily formed to defend Canada from the approaching American revolutionaries, this wizard would be a part of the regiment who went south to help out the American patriots regain order and keep the British rule.

As for where to start this roleplay, I’m not sure. I’m still learning about the American Revolution so I’m not fully knowledgeable enough to have a good suggestion. Also when are we getting a character sheet? I think I’m ready to start working on them for both of my character ideas.

Alright character sheets. I’m going to try and get sheets for my two characters done in the next few days. Also you can remove my hold on the Mothman in the characters thread. I have relinquished all use of him, so someone can pick him if they want. And one more question, are we starting at the very beginning of the war, or has it been going for awhile?

Roger that!

Will do!

And one more question, are we starting at the very beginning of the war, or has it been going for awhile?
I would say early into the war, but not quite at the beginning.
On the one hand, enough of the war will have happened by now to make it clear to the Wolves of both Thynghowe (British) and Jamestown (American) that this is more than just a minor dispute between Britain and her colonies.
But on the other hand, we'll still be early enough that the Wolves on both fronts are still debating whether to stay out of the war or get involved (and if the latter, which side to take).
Beyond that, I don't know enough yet to pin down an exact date. Perhaps EmperorNorton1 EmperorNorton1 could help with this?

i have a few dates. after the coercive acts in 1774, set in Virginia, Philadelphia, or boston. mid April, 1775, just before or just after lexington and concord, massachustits area. and of course, june, 1776. just before the declaration of independence. we could also start at bunker hill or the siege of New York City if none of these dates work. i think lexington is the best fit.

Looking at the overall timeline, I agree that the Lexington/Concord starting point (the first official battle in the war) would be perfect. It's also safe to assume from that that we would be starting in the Massachusetts area and then letting things branch out from there.

I’ll keep that starting point in mind. I’m working on both characters, though as I do some research, apparently I misread the article about the 1st Canadian Regiment as they actually were helping the American revolutionaries. So I’m swapping my character, the Canadian wizard being a revolutionary, while the Jersey Devil is a loyalist. I’m going to pivot the Jersey Devil’s back story so that he went to England willingly and was trained by a lich version of the alchemist John Dee, and came to be a loyalist. So that’s what I’m thinking as I work on the characters. I still need to do some more research, but I do hope to have the sheets done in the next few days.

Alright so I finished up both my loyalist and patriot characters and posted them. For the Jersey Devil I did my best to flesh out his back story, I personally liking the inclusion of undead John Dee. As for my wizard, I admit that I played around with the official timeline some, having the 1st Canadian Regiment being formed a couple of months earlier than in our own world. Hopefully that is fine, as since magic is a thing in this setting we don't have to be 100% accurate to history. Anyways let met know if anything needs changing.

Just checking in on the status of this roleplay? I’m wondering about my two characters and if they are acceptable?

I'm so sorry for my absence. I wound up in the hospital unexpectedly again. I don't wish to elaborate, but I might have to drop out of the rp.
