Ryke Village - Windfall

f51ed5e3353fcb30199afdbfaf5a189c.jpg

This Chapter of Isekai Hell is a slice of life focused rp that acts as a follow up to a previous rp called For Whom the Bell Tolls. A village supposedly overrun with plague was investigated. Findings revealed the presence of a ratmancer and its horde of man eating rats. The ratmancer was slain and the horde was wiped out. The village was then left abandoned.
Within a month of the findings being revealed about the village, a caravan full of people and supplies arrived. The village was renamed Windfall. Winter was early and promised to be long. The characters would arrive to lend aid, claim a place of their own, or simply wander in as they see fit. Once arrived, they would immediately be put to work. Chores, reconstruction, salvage, hunting, and much more awaited the characters in this budding village full of hope and promise.

The rp will revolve around the efforts of the characters to living village life and aid in the village's re-establishment.

The village previously housed no more than 100 souls. The merchant caravan delivered no more than a few dozen people to the site. While more may come, everyone would easily find room and work in the village. At the center of town was a multidenominational church. Around the town was a wooden palisade. Chilled farmland surrounded the village and beyond the fields were wood and forest. While the village well would need some attention before use, there were a few streams that ran through the nearby fields that could be used for fetching water.

For some time that dull tundra sough filled Liu's mind. This high grassy region was rubbed incessantly by a sharp mountain wind arching up over the saddle valleys and veering effortlessly around curving hills. Grasses dull and brown mixed with snow all around. A small luminous eye peered down from behind linen clouds and high hills cupping a gently glimmering lake sternly girded the horizon from view, it seemed to be the end of the road. He wasn't sure how long he walked down that path but the light had not changed appreciably since sunrise. The gray glow, constant and when coupled with the sound, hypnotic, briefly dimmed when a low passing cloud pregnant with moisture occulted it for just a moment. Liu's gaze dropped gradually down toward the village before him. There was smoke rising, but the plume was too thick and too black to be from a fireplace. Crude walls lined the place. Bodies moved by gaps in those ugly fences. It was apparent the place had been attacked. Liu looked all around and adjusted his belongings over his shoulder. He was clad from head to toe in black folds, some light garment which gathered around his shoulders and covered his face in its entirety. A secured veil which he could see through. Puffy pants and cloth shoes. The condition of it was questionable as well, smeared with grime from the road and here and there frayed, though even more black cloth burgeoned from beneath these minor perforations.

Plodding and slow, he stepped toward the town, swaying a little, clearly in need of rest. This town needed offer him little other than a place to sit and the din of civilization. It was with these low expectations that he swayed through the place, making no move to quit his progress. He followed the main path listlessly until he was in the shadow of a high building. Still standing, apprently, he mused as he turned around at the steps to peer over the wreckage in the village. Smoldering remains and busy workers milled back and forth. Just a couple stopped to look at him openly. He was sure others noticed and stole their glances while he was lost in thought on the way over to the front door. Yellow grey light cast the entire place in a pall. The grey thatch roofs seemed somehow ill. Wood panel houses sagged tiredly. Some of the people mirrored their dwellings.

He turned back to peer at the high edifice in the center of the town. He considered it for a moment and then mindlessly walked into the door to explore the inside. He carried few expectations about what he may see inside.

Teuihua

The golem still wasn't entirely sure how it had ended up at a place like Windfall. It had seen the caravan and heard that there was work to be done so Teuihua followed. His primary purpose had been to protect and assist in the past all those years ago. The exploration team that had woken him up had been scared off when he had awoken so it had taken him some time of just wandering about until he found this particular group. He was able to keep pace well enough despite his slower and heftier form, and reasoned that what he had been doing in the past would translate well to whatever year he was currently in. He looked at the surrounding area, and the architecture was just so different from what he was used to even then.

Thankfully despite Teuihua's large size and less than traditional arm on one side, his other arm was sizable enough to carry quite a bit, Didn't really feel the strain of lifting particularly in that sense, as as soon as he gaged what he could help with he started to help unload supplies with the one more regular arm, carrying some under the arm and a lot and a sizable amount in the hand, probably not being tasked with any super delicate material at the moment . Wherever the people needed the supplies Teuihua was more than willing to help, whatever they'd trust the golem to help move. Teuihua would occasionally wait for further instruction, since he wasn't entirely sure what they wanted him to do with some of these things.

However it was clear there'd be more moving supplies out, and repairs that needed to be done to the this foreign living establishment. So at the very least he had not been led astray by what had been conveyed by the caravan. If they needed him to Teuihua would also be quite open to surveying the border of the village while they worked, it was one of his primary jobs, to protect settlements back when he was created. For now Teuihua was just trying to scope out this strange landscape and learn about it, and continue to support people an initiate function of it's creation. For now the golem stayed quiet, focused on the tasks at hand in the central area.

Kellum had been sitting at the tavern listening to rumors of more work when he heard about a caravan going to a village. "They can't be serious, right?" Kellum inquired as he looked over to his traveling companion, who shrugged. Sitting back in his chair he let out a sigh the whole ratmancer issue was still fresh on his mind. The rats seemed to die when the ratmancer died. Though he wasn't sure if there were any others around or if he was acting alone.

He knew the road was a fairly long one even when he went with the doctor to the village, it still took a bit of time. He knew bandits happened to be along the main road that went in that direction at least from personal experience that he had from the last trip. Looking over at Chisato he closed his eyes weighing out the options that were on the table.

Do I really want to go back to that village right now of all times? I mean I hope the romans were able to clean up the village, if they weren't then no doubt it would be very off-putting. But on the other hand I could find something that pays better from the guild, though I suppose curiosity does kill the cat. Kellum thought to himself as he stood up from the table.
new female oc.png
"Well I suppose we can't let any bandits prey on them," Kellum concluded as he made up his mind on the matter. Chisato nodded before finishing the bread that was on the plate in front of her. Eventually making their way to the staging point of the caravan and offered their services as guards along the way.

As the group arrived in the village, the trip went by quietly at least so far it seemed. The supplies and the new arrivals were being unloaded and it even looked like a few people were already starting to get to work. Turning around he felt something rumble the ground, he then noticed there was a golem that was unloading supplies. Well then I didn't think they would have employed a golem here. He thought to himself as he glanced around for a moment longer.

Kellum started to look around for the leader of the caravan group that had arrived, he figured talking to the new leader of the village was probably a good idea. Though in hindsight Kellum had a much better layout of the village than probably most of the people here. Seeing as many of the people were busy with construction the security of the village was probably vulnerable.
"Well I will stick around the village for a bit longer until the village establishes probably guard shifts," Kellum stated.

Lucius looked up at the former village chief's house and sighed. The damage to the building was.... disheartening. There was at least a partial roof collapse up on the second floor, most if not all of the furniture looked like it had been gnawed to splinters by rats, and there was enough burn damage on the front left wall of the house that it would need to be replaced with freshly seasoned wood to avoid any rot. He had spent his time up to this point just camping out in the large house with his men while they collected the dead villagers and buried them. They had even tried to make a little headway trying to restore the well. He didn't know the first thing about it so the project had been abandoned after some light exploration back to areas they had already been in to see if anything could be done. By the time the caravan had arrived he and his men were ready to get a proper home set up before they struck out at other projects. So now he examined the house and turned to his three companions nearby. "Titus, what is your assessment of the structure?" He asked the Architecti. He pointed at the front burnt wall. "That section there and the collapsed roof are what concern me. Can we source the timbers necessary for that repair and is the structure still good?" He turned back to Cassius. "And can we source enough food to make this a viable homestead in the winter Cassius?" He had his arms crossed. At least part of his questioning was rhetorical, he had some knowledge of architecture, but he wanted a second opinion. He glanced back at some of the newer arrivals around the town as they worked. Then he turned to his second in command. Marcus had been a loyal second ever since he had joined the cohort. He had provided the insight of a veteran campaigner that had been invaluable to him. He indicated the rest of the village with a sweeping gesture. "And you Marcus, what do you think? Can we start a feasible operation here? I plan to start a new Republic if it can be managed but we need more men. Do these barbarians have what it takes to be good soldiers if trained?"

Shei

Location: The Ryke, Windfall Village
She heard about this place while working in a neighboring village nurturing the people, making just enough to survive. During that time she nurtured a sick lady who told her all about her niece in Windfall who sent her letters about her life and the spreading plague later on, the letters stopped soon after, and her heart was filled with worry about why was her attentive niece not responding anymore. Shei's heart was filled with empathy towards the woman, she was also missing her family, all the people she lost when moved here people she'll never meet again, she didn't want that fate for the lady. She decided to help her reunite with her family go to the town and learn the truth about her niece's silence. She hoped to find the woman to reunite a family and for the story to end up in a happy ending but the closer Shei got to the village the more she could see it wasn't going to be easy.

The town wasn't in a good state and that was putting it lightly, it was nothing like the old lady described it to be the last time she visited. She looked around curiously eyeing the actions of people rebuilding their livelihoods and bonding in that harsh horrible situation. She was tired after her travel yet she fought to gather her strength helping wherever she could, if she could be of use somewhere she was.

Small tasks, however, could only do that much at some point she needed to mobilize she walked to the people asking about the situation about what things are the most urgent, and looked over every suggestion to see where she could be the most help. She decided to settle at the task of fetching water from the streams that ran through the nearby fields. In the end, water was life bringing strength to the people, it was important to stay hydrated during hard work and water had many uses in medicine, farming, and animal handling. Not to mention with the essence of her being it was pleasant to work with the element she was so close with.

Hathaway Peacecraft

Hathaway traversed throughout the small village with a wheelbarrow dragged behind him. To no surprise at all, the land was rough, so the wheels of the small cart bumped and jerked constantly. It was certainly tiring but Hathaway was the one that signed up for this assignment when members of the Church were tasked to come and help this forsaken village.

As he raised his collar to fight off against the cold, he scanned around the area unpassionately. From the reports given to him, a scourge of rats had devastated the people and environment. What he saw most definitely matched what was said. The despair that plagued the area could almost be felt in the very air itself. What was seen in the hollowed faces of the villagers, very much deserved such a depressing name like 'Windfall'.

As he was lamenting the reality before his eyes, he was reassured to still see some of the honorable souls that also came to bring some reassurance here. Whether it was the men that were helping reconstruct a home or the incredible golem, they were each a ray of light between the dark clouds hovering all of them.

Continuing his walk along the road, Hathaway made his way closer to the Church where surely plenty people in need would gather around. Seeing some of the needy around as expected, Hathaway dropped the handle of the wheelbarrow and reached into it's contents. The devotee pulled out a bundle of blankets and strolled up to the unfortunate gathering of villagers that held vacant stares, "You've all been through a hellish experience, but the gods have heard your pleas. So here we are to help. I have the unfortunate knowledge of knowing that freezing to death is not a pleasant nor honorable way to go into the next life."

Having tried to encourage them anyway he could, the devotee handed blankets out to the villagers nearby in order to at least somewhat fight against the cold air.

Location: The Rhyke, Windfall village outskirts

For Verde, morning has been for quite a bit, he woke when dawn was approaching. Leaving when most would not notice him slipping away into the tundra surrounding the village. 2 hours have passed and even then he could not find anything the could be considered a threat. A couple of rabbits, mice rushing under exposed tree trunks, but it wasn't what he was looking for. Especially in an environment like this. He has not heard the howling of wolves or even the sight of any predator, only the sound of snow crunching beneath his own boots, and the occasional bird chirping.

By the time he had gotten back it seemed as though things in the village were picking up. "May as well do something useful. Maybe there is an effort towards food. Or something like that." Verde muttered to himself, clearly not fitting in with his surroundings, his eyes were nothing more then pools of black with a faint glint in the center, his skin black as coal, and hair white as chalk. A far cry from the people surrounding him.

For now, he would have to try and wait, see if he would hear something. Murmers from villagers, or maybe tale of some threat out in the woods. "Mingle and listen, story of my life." he thought to himself as he finally got back to the village. Not knowing what would be awaiting him today.

ALEXANDAR CRUZ | F0DC82
[Human] [Entity Agent] [East Empire Fugitive C] [Abilinator] [Unassuming Protagonist]

  • After his brief yet memorable visit to the Empire, Alex had the privilege and took his time resting up within the territory of the See. He wasn't quite certain with how things actually went, but from the praise he had received, it appeared that he had done a good job. Well, at least good enough to garner their favor. However, Alex didn't want to overstay his welcome. At the end of the day, he was still a human and a visitor. Not wanting to further bother them with his personal interests, he sought their aid in getting back to the land which he came from. His interest in the arcane would have to wait for now as he was lead to the closest portal to Ryke. Well, at least somewhere kind of near Ryke.

    His travels led him not to the capital, but to a village that appeared to have gone through quite the ordeal. "So, this must be Windfall." Covered in a hooded robe, Alex stared from afar before approaching the worn down village. From how it looked, it sort of reminded him of the Flokius, or whatever that was left of it. "I guess the rumors were right." Alex's initial plan was head back to Ryken, but after consistently learning of what had happened to Windfall from the tavenrs and inns he had passed by the last few days, he knew that it would be best if he could lend a helping hand to those in need. Alex wasn't exactly the kindest person, but he still felt a bit of guilt in setting Flokius ablaze. Naturally, to make up for burning a town down to the ground, assisting a village to get back on its feet seemed like the most appropriate option he could take.

    Unsure of where to start, Alex made his way to where most people had gathered. He was but a single person. No matter how much he wanted to help, by himself he couldn't do much. At this point, Alex was willing to do anything to be useful.

They may post more quickly if we can all complete a round faster. Otherwise, I encourage you guys to rp with each other. Should also be noted, pretty much all of the villagers died. The people here now are 'happy' and optimistic in their ability to refit the village to serve as their new home. They have ample supplies that came with them. It's cold out, make sure everyone bundles up if they haven't already.

Ryke Village - Windfall

f51ed5e3353fcb30199afdbfaf5a189c.jpg

Of the couple dozen adults in town, most of them had gathered in the town center with the well (still being repaired) and the church. While the children ran around, some being more helpful than others, the adults met with the new town mayor and leader of the caravan: Mathias. Anyone who spent any time in the town or caravan on the way over would know him. A pleasant old man with an eye for opportunity and clearly someone that chose an obstinately happy outlook in the face of sour conditions.

Upon arrival, there had been a bit of a scramble among the families to pick ideal buildings to make home. The preference were for buildings in good repair and easy to warm. After homes were picked out, fires started being lit in piles and barrels for the sake of public heat against the chill as they coordinated their efforts. The well was being tended to by a handful of the men. Safe, close, drinkable water would be the ideal. In the meantime, children were dispatched to fetch water and a couple women were called upon to direct their efforts. Armed escorts were also called upon to ensure their trip to and from the water was safe. There wasn't much concern after Verde's scouting, but one could never be too careful. Shei would be asked to help fetch water and oversea the children doing the same. Verde and Kellum would be asked to go with for protection. Mathias spoke to each of them individual to request their aid and thank them for braving the cold and wilderness to help everyone get established.

disastrata-art-funny-old-man-final.jpg

The trip out to the water would not take long. It was a brief few minute walk. The ground was a mix of snow, frozen soil, and frost vegetation. As they got closer to the water source, they would hear the trickling stream that had not frozen. Slimes of a harmless variety would be splashing around in the bank and the stream. Typically, slimes such as the ones the water fetchers found were desirable as it meant the water was clean or actively being cleaned by the slimes. they would just have to make sure not to take any back. Some may get the idea that taking some slimes back might assist with the well issues back in town.

"Alright, big guy. Take these boxes into the church,"

One of the older women said after she finished loading up Teuihua with several light boxes of ritual materials and vestments to be used by the church. The church double doors would be open from Liu entering earlier and were just wide enough that Teuihua could enter if he was careful. Hathaway would have to step aside to make room for Teuihua. It looked like one of Teuihua's boxes was starting to tip. Hathaway would have an opportunity to assist if he felt inclined.

Inside the church, Liu would find the largest hall in the village. Likely the church served as a meeting place when the town square wasn't suitable. Aside from a few damaged pews, several long benches filled the space. At the head of the benches was a stage with a pulpit on it and an altar before it. Around the pews and stage were several alcoves filled with various religious symbols and statues. Those that were not damaged, desiccated, or otherwise missing would likely see use when the town attended the church later in the week. The wooden planks that made up the flooring were damaged and would need replaced along with the back pews. The smell wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible either considering what was in the place. There was a ladder leading to an upper floor. There was also a stair way to the side that would lead to a subterranean area for storage or other rituals.

Elsewhere,

Alex would be approached by one of the villagers. They appeared happy to see him.

"You look like you know your way around a paper and quill. If it's not too much trouble, would you mind speaking with the strangers that have setup camp in the old mayor's home? They didn't come with us nor do they seem to have the same goals as we do despite seeming peaceful enough. Perhaps you could sort out the details of how everyone will live properly in the village without incident."

The villager was likely the timid assistant to the caravan leader, Mathias. Was apparent to Alex that an undesirable task was getting pawned off on him for being in the right place at the wrong time. Perhaps it was his time among the fae that made him the likely choice for the job. Or maybe he just happened to see the Alex first. Either way, it was not Alex responsibility. Anyone that wanted to eat lunch later would have to pitch in and do their share afterall. Alex was told where to go and pointed in the right direction. The former mayor's house stood out among a sea of smaller homes.

Lucius men would report to him as Alex would come into view.

"Domine, the home will be fine. The structures of this village are cheap and likely locally sourced. I recall woods nearby on our way into town. I have already secured some of the tools left behind by the previous residents. Assuming the newly arrived group doesn't try to take back the tools, the building, or monopolize the supplies, it should work,"

Titus replied to Lucius through a yawn. Cassius immediately cut in,

"Shut your mouth to not entertain flies when speaking with the Domine, Titus."

Titus sniffed and looked again at the damages while Cassius gave his report,

"Domine, we don't have enough supplies among us. The town was devoid of most food goods by the time we arrived as well. I recommend we form a relationship with the new villagers. I believe we would be able to supply them with more than enough manpower in exchange for food and perhaps other goods. Food aside, fire wood, and repair materials may also be possible. Just so long as a certain Architecti doesn't go and steal more materials and garner the strangers' wrath for us."

"I am no thief, Cassius. The prior owners were dead and I hand no way of knowing they were already spoken for!"

Titus interjected, rising to Cassius's provocations.

"That's enough of that."

A cold, hard voice spoke to turn down the excitement on the pair before Lucius. Marcus would step forward after having scoped out some of the town and villagers.

" This place fits our needs as well as any. We will have to keep an eye on the barbarians though. It makes me itch being so close to a possible enemy. They do not appear to be overly well defended but barbarians never are. I'll sleep sounder knowing where we stand. Perhaps Cassius should negotiate mandatory service of their fighting aged men. Settle our needs, take care of concerns, and forward our goals."

Kellum nodded his head when the leader of the group asked him to continue protecting the group for a bit longer. Really he had no law business to attend to in Ryken and he trusted the girl to at least mind the office while they were gone. So there wasn't much worry in his mind, looking over at the other that had approached the leader of the group at the same time. He hadn't seen a drow in this world before, which he wasn't sure if that was because he hadn't been to the fae or if he hadn't been looking hard enough.

Well this is one thing I didn't see coming for sure, though I didn't think I would see a drow here of all places. He thought to himself for a moment before the gentle nudge of his companion brought him back to the moment. "Verde right? Well we should get moving, don't want any of the animals to sneak up on the water gathering group," Kellum stated as he motioned towards the gate where people with buckets were walking in and out from. There were faint flashes of memories as he saw some men working on the well the group had descended down from when they were clearing out the village.

Clearing his throat he started to slowly walk towards the gate, "The names Kellum, and my companion here is Chisato." Kellum introduced as he motioned toward the woman next to him. "Speaking of which, you have been quiet Chisato. Don't tell me you are still scared about the ratmancer? He's gone, no way that thing is coming back," Kellum stated as he continued on his path.

new female oc.png

Glancing around at the village on his way out it already seemed more alive than when he was here the first time. Though that wasn't hard since there was only a single surviving resident of the village though he wouldn't have been surprised if the ratmancer was a member of the village and was biding his time to act. Though he didn't really have any sort of evidence to support that theory of his.

He did enjoy the peacefulness of the village or well the fact it wasn't dead silent now. He was curious if the Romans were still in the village or not. He had been out on patrol and hadn't had time to really listen to what was being said in the village. Though he figured upon his return trip he would take a stroll through the village and see what was going on.

Shei
sheet2.png

The village already seemed more lively than when she had first seen it, everyone was getting their task and people were working together for the common goal of making everyone's lives better. Seeing all that motivation she was sure that sooner or later Windfall will grow stronger than it ever was. Mathias seemed to be the leader of the villagers managing everyone's tasks it was obvious to her that sooner or later she'll need to speak to him, lucky for her she didn't need to wait long to be approached first. She greeted Mathias with a warm smile, she was planning to help the villagers either way yet it was always nice to have someone acknowledge your efforts. "I promise to do all I can to help
Windfall Village and its people."
She exclaimed with a little bow to show respect to the leader before heading towards her group.

Her group consisted of the village's children and women and three guardians, two humans, and a dark elf. The company looked plenty of interesting to genasi and she was excited to get to know them all. She started off speaking to the children knowing how easy it is for those to complain or get tired that's why it was important to frame it like a fun important mission, calling them little heroes and giving them side quests like looking around for bunnies to hunt for food or gathering flowers to decorate and brighten the village. Next, she came up to women they had to make sure they'll all keep an eye on the children during it all, losing someone so helpless in the wilderness could not possibly end well and they had a lot of work that didn't include searching for the lost group members.

When all that was dealt with she felt ready to talk to the guardians. It felt strange and they made her feel a bit intimidated, it was like some sort of an aura, she could sense it. Maybe it was just intuition but she knew the role they were going to play in this world is going to be important. She bowed a little before introducing herself. "My name is Shei, thank you for agreeing to protect our group. I have a small request, the way to the water streams leads through the wilderness. Besides the guarding and protection would any of you be able to hunt? It could be some small animals like bunnies. Everyone will be tired after completing their tasks and it would be nice to try to make a small feast together maybe in a bigger building like a church you know to try up everyone's morale, rebuild the community and bond."

Teuihua shifted his limbs to the best of his ability to try to cutdown on how wide he was to get into the church building by adjusting his form to the best of his ability. Teuihua being a more agreeable golem than not was more than happy to assist the older woman, so whatever she loaded onto him he'd accept without any complaints. Making a positive sound of affirmation. For now he didn't speak instead focused on the task at hand, shifting carefully trying his best to not damage anything by mistake with his movements given his scale. A many figures who had shown up were intriguing to the golem and there was a lot to learn but that was something of interest for later, for now he would serve. The building before him looked somewhat inviting in a way, to have something which was large enough that he could make his way into, going into the majority of common people's houses were certainly out of the question, so having access to an interior space was a nice change of pace in this time, despite the architecture looking so foreign in comparison to his time.

The golem tried his best to navigate the space, trying to keep the items steady, however he paused when Hathaway needed to move, before he finally spoke in an accent which was probably quite foreign to all there unless they had lived amany years ago.

"Apologies sir, I do not wish to disturb your time of solitude but I am trying to deliver these religious objects to their destination, and I don't think I can get through this building safely with a frame like this with out you stepping aside." He spoke truthfully, sounding genuinely apologetic in the tone of voice, his face not moving, instead the sound coming from it probably through magical means one way or another. However as Teuihua spoke he saw one of what he was carrying start to shift in a not so good direction, he really didn't want to drop it so he started to adjust, but there would be opportunity for Hathaway to help assist stop it from tipping over as aforementioned.

Lucius listened closely to the words of his officers with a slight nod. Though he frowned when Titus yawned as a distinct smell wafted to him. The man's breath often stank of booze, and today was no different. Lucius wasn't even sure where he got it from. If he wasn't the only competent Architecti he had been assigned in his last cohort he probably wouldn't even be standing here today. He would have been left behind at the last military outpost before the romans went out to their final doom in Gaul otherwise. Over the time he knew him he had gotten used to the man's vices, but it didn't mean he liked them. Still, the way he acted with Cassius did slightly endear him to both. They were an unintentionally comical duo in an otherwise humorless job "Good, we have Jupiter's blessing then for this house. I was afraid it might require more repair then it was worth." He turned his attention to Cassius. "An excellent idea Cassius. These barbarians will likely benefit from good Roman engineering and labor. It will be a good investment for when we take this place as a formal base of operations in the future." He turned to Marcus. "I do not think they will be so eager to send fighting men for us at the moment, but maybe we can have the men ingratiate themselves. Aside from that i'd like to personally negotiate any terms that must be made." He turned to one of his legionaries and pointed at them specifically. "You, you'll go with Cassius for the moment and obey his every order. Cassius, take this Legionary and go speak with the locals repairing houses. See if they lack any of the tools we have. Dismissed." He turned and waved the other two legionaries forward. He jerked a thumb at Titus. "You men will go with Titus and obey his every command. Titus take these men and go start the process of sourcing the timbers we'll need to repair the building. If any of the barbarians try and stop you do not hurt them and return here. Dismissed." He crossed his arms and turned his attention solely back to Marcus and the last two of his legionaries. "Marcus, stay here and protect the house. We spilled blood for the right to that property and I won't have any of the locals trying to take it back. I'll go speak with their leader and see if we can't hammer something out. You two Legionaries are under his command for now, follow his orders." He pointed a thumb at Marcus while looking at his men.

From where he stood he and saw Alex approaching. He crossed his arms as he did, watching the man. He didn't look like any of the locals that Lucius had seen and that put him slightly on edge. He adjusted his posture to be one foot forward with both hands resting on the pommel of his gladius. As soon as the man was within easy talking distance he held up a hand to stop him. "That's far enough stranger. Name and business?"

Verde was content with the task given to him, it was simple. Plus villagers made more noise. If something would attack it would not be silent. He was ready to turn around before he heard a voice greeting him. "It will be a pleasure so long as things go right. Just be careful, sometimes bandits and animals are not the only think a forest can hide."

He stopped to turn to the two humans, just in time to catch the comment of a Ratmancer, which confused him how something with that name would scare someone. He did not find it to concerning to ask about for the moment. "So if you don't mind me asking Kellum, what is it that sent you this way? There really isn't much outside of most cities. And even though I haven't been here long there is not much danger outside of rogue animals that could get upset if a the villagers got near their territory." He asked, but with his own eyes it was hard to see where he was looking. The closest thing to a pupil was but a faint white glint in the center of his oily black eyes. "Of course I don't mean to sound judgmental, I just don't get to see people that much. The Dark elves I was with did not like interacting with anyone else outside of other Dark elves. This village is my first proper interaction with non-drow species."

Verde was asking questions but at the same time he was eyeing every tree, making note of any changes in the snow or dirt. Anything that could give him an idea of any dangerous creatures. Only a few times looking to his companions. Unsure of whether these would just be faces that he would not remember after they leave.

Hathaway Peacecraft

A large shadow cast itself over Hathaway. Did it suddenly get more cloudy or was a large boulder about to crush him this very moment? Neither was the case when he turned around to find the large golem standing behind him. It was the same one from earlier that he had seen helping and was carrying a stack of boxes. Seeing that he was in the way, Hathaway took a step to the side for the golem to pass by. "Of course, your service is appreciated." the devotee gave his gesture of gratitude with a simple palm raised.

Just then, one of the boxes began to tip over. Before it could fall, Hathaway dashed over to press both of his arms against the crate. He grunted a bit under his breath at the physical exertion. The crate was heavier than he thought. Although it was also true that he didn't do much strength training. He steadily pushed the crate into it's original position instead of trying to lift it himself. "Heh, the church usually teaches us about carrying the weight of sins instead of of actual objects." he lightly joked before taking a few steps back to let the golem through once more.

"My name is Hathaway Peacecraft. I was sent here to provide support out in anyway I can manage. I'm only aware of the surface details of what transpired here, but I'm proud to see such progress. It's thanks to those like you. What's your story for being here?" Hathaway continued his conversation while following behind. He genuinely found an interest in the golem's answer. By learning more about others he could use that knowledge to help others in need. Constructs weren't exactly something he knew too much about. Sure there were some here and there he had met but hadn't seen a whole lot while in his time in the Church. Just how different and similar were the reasons they shared in wanting to help others?

Kellum continued along the path as the Drow finally spoke up, "Well that is true however, I saw more than bandits the last time that I was here in this village. Even Chisato would back me up on this, though she has been a little quiet probably from what happened last time." Kellum stated with a shrug as he looked over his shoulder before glancing around at the forest. The path seemed fairly traveled at least by a new paths standard though he was right you never knew what you could find out here.

"Well as I stated before me, chisato and some other adventurer's were sent to the village here with a doctor. There was supposed to be a plague and it turned out to be something else entirely. The whole town was killed or well all but a single person," Kellum paused for a moment as he looked up at the sky. "Though as to why we are here now, well I heard about the caravan being put together and I figured having someone who know the area around the town would be helpful plus, I do work as a lawyer on the side." Kellum concluded as he nodded his head.

"Well Drow are a rarity for me anyway, I mean you're the first one that I ran into so I guess its a mutual thing. Though there is always something going on somewhere. There is a town up in the north of Ryke called Hyroth its known for its many festivals. So I mean you could always look for that and maybe find something to do there as well maybe interact with more people," Kellum suggested when one of the people they were guarding walked over to them.

"Nice to meet you Shei, I'm Kellum and my companion behind me is Chisato. I mean I came here to help rebuild the village after what happened the last time I was here. So its not really an issue," He chuckled as he brushed some loose hair out of his face. "Uh, I don't have a bow nor am I a good shot. But that is a good idea though wouldn't it be more of building up the communal bonds?" Kellum inquired as he glanced around at the trees as they continued along their way.

Liu's attention snapped to the hulking figure moving through the door. His own form was so swaddled and covered that it was difficult to read, but the way he froze from shoulder to toe and followed the creature's form with his gaze suggested something like staring was taking place. He tried classifying it or something, meager though his knowledge was, and he deemed himself more similar to it than to humans. It was roughly anthropomorphic and possibly a machine though. Liu stepped back a couple of paces and awaited the creature's destination, sure to move aside as needed. The golem and those idols shared his gaze though. It did occur to him that there are gods. He wondered faintly if any of them would care for his attention. Creatures which return from the dead in physical form have a murky relationship with the divine, much murkier than their relationships with creatures that simply inhabit physical bodies. Speculation.

Silently, he marked the lumbering hill's path.

The golem had been surprised to hear the words of appreciation come from the person. A many people would have just stepped out of the way and not said a word. Teuihua was pleased to hear the fact that he was being well received.

Teuihua was also pleasantly surprised when Hathaway had stopped the objects from falling out of Teuihua's arm. And when Hathaway spoke, about carrying the weights of sins, the ancient golem could tell that it was meant in humor but it wasn't entirely sure what he had meant in this context, but that didn't stop the golem from making a bit of a sound that was almost like a gravely chuckle, the face still unmoving on Teuihua's head.

"Thank you for your kind words and your assistance, Hathaway Peacecraft. it is greatly appreciated." Teuihua responded promptly after he had said all of that, once the objects were stablized, and there was room once more, before Teuihua answered the question, he made his way over and leaned forward to let his arm down to the ground gently so that the crates could be moved off of him safely onto the church floor without falling from his height.

Teuihua then rotated his head towards Hathaway and continued while holding the deloading position "And my name is Teuihua, I came here because I saw a sizable group of people and materials traveling this way, and I heard that there were people who could use assistance, that is all I needed to hear, that is my purpose, to first protect, and second do what I can to assist when I'm not doing that, I am glad to hear that you are here to help too Hathaway." Speaking in the very old dialect once more, the name alone he provided was very archaic no doubt , who knew how many were left that remembered even? Teuihua hoped to find out soon enough.

Ryke Village - Windfall

While the other 2 saluted and left with their soldiers and would presumably be gone for some hours, Marcus remained near Lucius. While defending the house was the order, the likeliest threats were the new townspeople and a few happened to be approaching his leader. Marcus, too, was ready to use force given the opportunity as he stared with hard eyes at Alex and the latest visitor, Mayor Mathias.

disastrata-art-funny-old-man-final.jpg

Cutting off Alex's entry and positioning himself at a healthy distance, Mathias had also decided to make the walk over to the damaged manor home.

"Hm Hmm"

He chimed pleasantly with an aged voice that moved to the whims of a spritely mind.

"Hello, strangers. You don't look like bandits, so I thought I'd come introduce myself. My name is Mathias and I'll be the Mayor of this here village once she's up and running. I'm performing a neighborly house call. How are you getting along?"

While his intentions to learn more about the romans was obvious, any deeper goals were unknown. Accompanying Mathias were a couple of men from the caravan. Both look like they have worked manual labor and one may have had the tell-tale signs of brawling.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The girls down by the water began filling various bags, jugs, buckets, and other containers. Preferably they would have enough to last through the first half of the day or more, but hard work generally meant drinking more despite the chill in the air. Their breaths and bodies steamed in the morning sun as the chill frosted the moisture in the air. Some of the children laughed as they chased after slimes and/or played games with them.
"Hmph, I'm not afraid. I just don't see any reason for us to come back here. The village is ruined, its cold, and the city had far more options and opportunities for us."
A bundled up Kasumi vented. The trail of smoke was a solid line of hot air.
"Sorry,"
She said with a smile to Shei and Verde, trying to put on a better face than the attitude she showed Kellum in her pouting mood.
As the women fetched water and the defenders talked, Verde would note very little signs of danger or need for concern. Any animals at the morning were the plant eating kind of no concern. A few fantasy creatures like the ice and mist pixies were out that morning as they danced across the field in the distance leaving trails of frost and fog in their wake. Only concern was closer to home with one of the children trying to imprint a slime with their face and the slime trying to clean the inside of their nose for the effort.
Lucius looked over the old man in question and then gazed at his two companions. The worker and the brawler looked tough, but he didn't see any weapons and they weren't wearing armor. A hawkish look took over his features as Lucius spoke in turn. "Vale barbarorum." He said, purposefully using Latin in the greeting. He kept his hand on his pommel and did not move from his position. For all intents and purposes he looked relaxed aside from the position of his hand and the slight placement of his foot. He switched back to the common tongue. "We are getting along fine this good morning. I must confess I am surprised that you and your party came along. When we settled here after helping deal with the infestation we expected perhaps a few of the residents who survived to return but..." He gestured in the direction of the village caravan. "I had not expected that. We intend to stay here in the village, so it is good that we are meeting. Perhaps I could invite you inside for a warm drink to discuss things further? Surely your bones must ache in this weather." He swept a hand back towards the house.
"Just be happy you do not live with my kind. They do not take bad attitudes on jobs well." Verde spoke plainly, observing the distant pixies, doing everything to ignore the boy with the slime he was more than happy for one of his comrades to deal with that issue. Only focusing his eyes on the woods,
"Though my complaint would be the boring work. If I could be told that I'm allowed to help I would. But currently my job is seeing to the safety of those present. Nothing worse then being a scout with nothing to report, but it could be home. Now that would be far more terrifying." Verde chuckled, remembering the stories that the Drow told him about the many beast they had to lock blades with back home. "Believe me when I say an enraged bear would cause a sigh of relief over there."
Kellum chuckled as Chisato spoke, "Well that might be the case but its better the people here have guards for a little while until they are established. Besides, you were the one shaking in your boots when the ratmancer was around." Letting a sigh he watched as his breath fogged up and flew up into the air.
he simply shrugged his shoulders as Verde spoke. "I mean to each their own I suppose, though Ryke is pretty much a melting pot there are a lot of races around. On top of that fun is a rather subjective word. What one person might find fun another might not," Kellum concluded as he turned to watch the creature fly in the air.
new female oc.png
"Right," Kellum responded as he wasn't really sure what other creatures the drow could be talking about. Moving towards a tree to lean against he saw one of the children trying to make an imprint on the slim. "Hey! Don't put the slim in your face, you never know what it will do," Kellum warned the child as he went back to keeping a watch over the immediate area.
Hathaway
Hathaway listened to the words of the Golem while walking behind. He contemplated what was said while they were blanketed by the darkness within the Church. From what he surmised, Teuihua was quite the patriot of peace himself. To come all this way for simply the sake to help others without any benefit for oneself.
Running his hand along the rough texture of the benches, he came to the conclusion that his mother would surely have been fond of this Teuihua fellow. At that though, a small smile came to his brim. "I see, Teuihua is it? Don't think I've heard a name quite like that before. Do you know where it originates from?" Hathaway questioned further.
Not wanting this to simply be an interrogation, Hathaway offered an answer concerning himself. "When it comes to me; my memories of before I met my mother are a bit of a blur. So the name 'Hathaway', doesn't mean much to me. 'Peacecraft' is actually something of interest. I got it from mother when she adopted me. A bit on the nose isn't it? But I'm sure for believers in a higher power, like my mother, it must have given them a sense of duty and tranquility. That surely must have been the intent of her ancestors. From what she informed me, she comes from a line of nomads that were pacifists. Though, the pessimist in me has a hard time visioning others as pure of spirit as she was." Finishing off his miniature monologue, the young man scratched at his cheek.
His gaze followed the structures of the statues and designs throughout the hall. His mind contemplated the meanings of the several different religious figures. Hathaway's eyes would then meet with whatever windows or curtains that blocked off the sunlight from getting within the hall and he would then promptly adjust the materials so that the Church's hall would brightening up.
Now seeing the lit up interior once again, Hathaway commented, "This place will definitely need some cleaning up aswell. As for those items you're carrying, I'll try to set the up around the Church as best as I can." He spoke while assessing the positions of the other items displayed about the altar and other areas.
Hathaway once again looked about, this time in search for any closet that might contain cleaning supplies.
Teuihua kept his eyes fixed on on Hathaway with his head rotated for the time being as he stayed down towards the ground, seemingly intending to keep that position until the objects were properly dealt with. The golem was surpirsed to hear the priest ask more about him as if he was a person, it was certainly a unique experience, no one had berated him or treated him with distain so far for being a construct, which was a change of pace, as while there were many friendly, Teuihua had encountered plenty who were not on the basis he was a construct.
"Why yes actually, it is Mictlantecuhtlian in origin from the Mictlantecuhtli civilization." He replied matter of fact, wondering that would ring a bell to Hathaway, this was something that the golem had been wanting to ask someone about since he woke up and all he could see were the ruins and no other sign, despite the fact the area should be have sprawling for miles with familiar architecture and people. The only logical conclusion was that he had been out for years or something bad had happened to them. Teuihua listened to what Hathaway with the utmost attention, as he spoke about himself.
"Oh you do not remember much before your creator nor do I, but I am happy to hear that you think so fondly of your creator,I am afraid I do not remember my creator very well..but from the impression I am getting your name does seem to suit you quite well." Referring to his mother as a creator since that is what Teuihua associated with the closest thing to an idea of a parent from his perspective. Truthfully Teuihua had not really had a personal relationship with his creator as there were several made similar to him, and since his activation and training he was sent off to do his job. But he appreciated that he had been created regardless as it meant he could help with tasks like these.
After Hathaway finished up with the later dialogue Teuihua continued, "Thank you, I would have to agree, it looks like this settlement certainly needs a lot of help getting back to how it should be functioning, I am not entirely sure what happened here, but at the very least some areas are more intact than others, like this very building." Teuihua continued with a friendly enough tone.
