Graded [Widersia: Gambler's Row] Heist at the Goldpot Casino

ELVYRA HIGHWATER | Blackwell Vampire-Human | VIP

HEIST AT.pngThe night had reached it's peak, and the gambling hall had settled into a loud, yet comfortable buzz as people watched Raia and Shu play Russian Roulette. Unbeknownst to either of them, the gang downstairs was on their way to becoming richer than anyone in that casino could ever dream of. Elvyra watched Pamela hop her way down the hall to investigate further.

"We should follow her now, besides I think someone's already waiting for us down there anyways." Elvyra said to Hiroshi as she began to walk down the hall. She glanced at Snare's new...strange form with a grimace. "You should come with us, if anything your appearance will scare the daylights out of any old fool we come across, and this operations been quiet so far."

The group of people she'd partnered up, while good at their jobs, concerned her somewhat. Though it was also painfully familiar to the other operations she'd pulled off with her old crew back in Blackwell. When Naori spoke about taking some of the bodies for 'Experiments' she almost thought he was someone else entirely. "You know kid, you remind me of someone. He was a real...enigma I guess that's the best way to put it." She said with a chuckle. "But I'm afraid we don't have time to loot bodies. Plus, I want to keep this as clean as possible. I may have partnered with you all to rob this joint, but we don't have anyone to clean up after us. The guards in that room, and whosoever is waiting for us up here will be the only causalities tonight." At least, I hope so.

Pamela's sneaking and investigation would result in no guards being nearby so the coast was clear. The hall lead to a large open space it was clear this was more than just a "basement" but an actual vault used for the Casino. Along the walls were various safes that were closed tightly shut, yet Elvyra ignored them completely in favor of what was in front of them. There, on a pedestal and floating just a few inches from it's solid surface was a the shiniest piece of Jade that she'd ever seen. It glowed so much it left a slight green hue on everything, and not just that it was humongous. The jade chunk was truly a sight to behold, and standing near it was a man she'd only seen in the papers and out on the front steps of the Goldpot. Lu Jiang greeted them with a tired expression on his face, the heavy weight of grief had left it's mark all over him it seemed. He had heavier eye bags than before, and his shoulders sagged as he looked at the group unsurprised by their sudden appearance.

"I take it you're here for the Jiangshi Treasurebox?" He said to them. Lu gestured widly at the room they were in. "Well...you're here now. If you check the vaults, I'm afraid you'll find that they're empty. This whole casino is, and always has been, completely devoid of any material wealth."

Elvyra felt that something about this whole thing was off from the jump. She knew someone was waiting for them down that hallway, and that it would probably be Lu Jiang himself but she hadn't expected him to be waiting for anyone to appear. "I've been watching you all, you know. The moment you stepped foot in this place, I was able to see and hear everything I needed to know to be prepared for this moment." He grabbed a hold of the jade chunk, and just then someone else had finally joined the group.

"Brother? What on earth is going on? I came because-" It was Mei Jiang, she looked onwardly at the group in confusion. She recognized a few there, but made no move to do anything as she continued to speak. "The Golden Hour is almost finished. Have we been able to give everything away finally?" She asked him. Lu Jiang shook his head.

"No we haven't. I already told you that something like that wouldn't work. We're running out of time, as well..."

"Can you two quit the vague chatter already and just explain? I'm losing my nerves here, either call the cops or hand us the box!" Elvyra had the sense that she had been duped somehow. Like the Jiang's had been the ones to con her instead. It wasn't a welcome feeling.

"The short of it is that we knew you were coming to rob us. That was the plan from the very beginning anyways. If no one had been able to win the entirety of the Jiangshi Treasurebox, we'd just wait for your group to come and steal it, that way it'd be out of our hands." Lu Jiang explained. "You see, the truth is that...we are not normal long lived people. We're Jiangshi. It's a form of Monster that's not very common in this era...or this region of the world. We're practically walking souls, undead creatures that can never rest. We've been tied to this for nearly 3 centuries now." He held the jade chunk out for them to see. "This is the Jiangshi Treasurebox. It looks like a pretty piece of jade, right? Well it houses the souls of every Jiang that has lived in our family for generations. It takes souls and transforms them into material items like gold and jewelry or other fine items. This is how we've been keeping the lights on in this place...well, until recently."

"I did hear that this place was having some kind of financial problems...so what? Just feed that hunk of rock more souls and call it a day." Seemed simple enough to Elvyra, but Lu Jiang shook his head, and Mei walked to join him by the jade chunk.

"It'll only take Jiangshi souls, unfortunately, since we're legitimately cursed to hold it forever. Until someone 'wins' it from us like a prize. Our eldest brother, Xu Jiang, gave himself up to keep the Goldpot alive, but...I've decided I can't sacrifice anyone else to this thing! So, I was hoping someone would try and steal it from me, or win every last bit of treasure it held. But we're running out of time, soon it'll need another Jiangshi to satiate it and keep it going, otherwise well...who knows what will happen?" Designer (56).png

And just as he said that, the room erupted with the power from the Jiangshi treasurebox. A powerful wind that threatened to pull everything in that empty vault into it's clutches unleashed, before it ceased and a wave of energy knocked everyone to their feet. Lu and Mei were gone now, it seemed that they had been absorbed by the Jade since they were the closest to it. But that was the least of the groups worries, as in it's place was now a very scary and powerful entity that roared at them in angry howl.

Covered in scales and fur, it was a dragon decorated in beautiful gold armor. Is this is the real form of the Jiangshi treasurebox?

"THOSE TWO FOOLISH JIANSGSHI ARE GONE NOW, I'LL TRANSFORM THEM INTO SOMETHING NEW ONCE I'VE REGAINED MY FULL STRENGTH..." Elvyra was able to stand up finally, and had a horrified look on her face at the new beast before them. Well it seemed she was right about one thing, at least. The Jiangshi Treasurebox was not something they could've ever divvied up between them all. The dragon then looked directly at Elvyra and the others, and she swore it grinned then.

"AH, HOW NICE OF THEM TO PREPARE MORE SOULS FOR ME. I'LL HAVE TO REMEMBER TO MAKE THESE JIANGSHI'S INTO SOMETHING NICE AFTERWARDS!" The horn on it's head began to glow menacingly...And then suddenly everyone was encased in a jade prism!

Inside Elvyra's Jade prism

Elvyra only saw white and could hear nothing until she blinked her eyes a few times to clear her vision. Once she was able to actually see, she was shocked for a moment to find herself in an all too familiar room. The oakwood desk and scruffy flooring from her old office back in Blackwell sat in front of her. Her desk was empty save for a few papers and a glass of "wine" she no doubt got from some poor fool earlier. The office was warm, relaxing, familiar. She actually felt at peace for once in this nice wallpapered room.
This could all be yours too...Just give me the rest of your Red Envelopes and I'll make it happen!

Elvyra heard a knock at the door and a small voice from the otherside. "Aunt Elvyra...? Are you in tonight?" She knew that voice, it was Winrey. He continued to knock on the door, and Elvyra felt the strong urge to let him in. But then that other voice came barreling in making demands of her, urging her to give up something. What was it again...? Red Envelopes...? She'd kept hers tucked away in her coat and hadn't been planning on using them at all that night. This isn't real...Winrey's off living his own life...a good one too! She clutched her coat tighter with a resolved look in her eyes. "You've got a lot of nerve, you damn lizard! Trapping me in here, using my own family against me! I'm done making deals with monsters. Let me outta here now!"

yeah hi it's me Lolory. Consider this a quick time event, everyone now must roll a 1d6 to determine their fate in the Jade (Yes, even if you were in the middle of a game and aren't at the battle, you still have to roll because everyone in the casino got trapped by this big dragon)!! If you roll a 4 you're stuck in the jade, if you don't roll a 4 you're free to break out of it! But don't worry! if you do happen to be unlucky enough to roll a 4 and not get out, the others can break you out once the battle is over with. In the meantime, feel free to write about what it's like in your characters Jade prism, a place where they'd have anything they'd wanted!

Izzy's gaze followed the woman as she hurried away, a frown creasing her brow, though no words passed her lips. Silence seemed the only companion fit for the strange realm they traversed, mist swirling around them like ghosts of forgotten dreams. As she trailed behind Zeke, the air itself felt heavy, pressing against her skin with an otherworldly chill that set her on edge.

When Zeke suddenly yanked them back to the mortal realm, the shift was jarring. Izzy stumbled, her boots skidding against the carpet as she collided with the captain's broad back. Instinctively, her hands shot out, gripping his shoulders for balance. The solidity of his form anchored her, the warmth beneath her fingers a stark contrast to the spectral cold they'd just escaped. She watched as his hand shot out toward Pam, concern flashing in his eyes. A smirk curved her lips, and she leaned in, her voice a teasing whisper laced with a touch of mirth.

"Did tha' bother ye' so much, cap'n? Tha's ah cute look on ye," she murmured, a chuckle bubbling up from her chest as she released her hold and stepped aside.

Izzy's eyes roved over Pam, searching for signs of injury, her concern a quiet but steady pulse in her chest. Satisfied, she cast her gaze around the room, her sharp eyes quickly assessing the state of their companions. But as her thoughts settled on Snare, a sudden shift overcame her, like a lullaby drawing her into a long-forgotten dream.

She blinked, the world around her morphing into a familiar yet distant landscape, one that tugged at the edges of her memory. It was her childhood home, the streets of Skypeiea, but they appeared blurred and faded, as if viewed through a veil of mist. The vibrant colors of her youth were now muted, the clarity of her recollections slipping through her grasp like sand.

She wandered through the streets, her steps slow and uncertain. It was a place she knew so well, and yet it felt as foreign as the realm they had just left. The buildings, the faces, the sounds—they were all fragments of a life long gone, and the more she looked, the more the dissonance grew. Could this truly be the place she once called home? Had time reshaped it so much, or was it her memory that had dulled the edges of reality?

Izzy found herself standing at the edge of a cloud, peering down into an abyss that seemed to stretch into eternity. This part felt sharper, more real than the rest, a dark void that mirrored the questions swirling in her mind.

Hiroshi nodded to Elvyra and kept following Pam with a considerable distance between them. Naori’s question about the bodies give him some thought and, by expression in the man’s face, Hiroshi didn’t seem that fond of the kid also wanting to play with bodies. Him too, huh? His hazel eyes would dart between Snare and Naori, a long exasperated sigh leaving his lips, accompanied by the white smoke of his cigarette.

However, as soon as he was about to answer the unusual request, Elvyra herself cut into the conversation. Another sigh left his lips, but this time around it was one of relief. “Like Elvyra-san said, without a clean-up crew, shit can get convoluted enough and people might start looking around.” Nodding to himself, Hiroshi crossed his arms. “At any rate…” The yakuza would playfully elbow Naori’s side, pointing at the bakery a few feet in front of them with an index finger. “... isn’t it better to occupy your mind with other stuff?” The question was accompanied by a grin, even though the man was being rather hypocritical at that point, since his mind was fully focused on the job.

He continued to follow the rabbit’s lead, strutting behind and trying to be ready for whatever might be waiting for the group up ahead. Soon enough, he would find himself inside the vault, with a floating piece of Jade to boot. That alone would make Hiroshi tilt his head, looking at it. “I wonder how much that is worth…” That was the first thing that ended up leaving his lips.

His arms were crossed once more, staring at Lu Jiang as if he was about to march towards him and kick the daylights out of him. Yet, Hiroshi waited as another one joined them in the vault and more about their situation was explained.

Their talk sounded like some old folklore from Japan, a story to keep children from misbehaving. A soul sucking gem, wandering spirits and some weird capability for transmutation. From all that was being said, would it end in a moral against greed or something like that?

With long drags and puffs of smoke, the yakuza couldn’t help but just assume that everything that was being said was true, instead of some weird fairy tale. After all, this world was weird like that.

It didn’t take that long for the weirdness being shown, Hiroshi tried to stand his ground by planting his feet firmly into the ground as the wind began sucking him into the vault, crossed arms being raised to protect his face, before being knocked on his feet by the sudden burst of energy.

“Fucking bastard…” He muttered between clenching teeth, slowly getting up to his feet and eyeing the bizarre jade-colored dragon now standing in front of him. Eyes narrowed, growling at them. Flight or fight instincts kicked in, adrenaline pumped through his veins. Yet, before he could move, he was not in the vault anymore.

Inside Hiroshi's Jade Prism

Hiroshi would find himself seated upon a plush, leather armchair, eyes blinking as they darted around the place. His memory was being jogged by the familiarity of the place: a pristine white floor, a small coffee table at the center of the room, couches surrounding it as it did the armchair he was on.

“Oyabun!” A voice called to him, as the door of the room was swing open. A man dressed in a suit not so different from his walked in, approaching him with a lazy smile on his lips. “The heads of the other families are waiting for you in the main room! Hah! The suckers ended up caving in the end!” A confident, lighthearted approach, making Hiroshi grimace. “Caved in…? Fat chance for that happening, even more knowing each one of those bastards…” The displeasure on his face was evident. Too easy, too perfect, too right… that was not how things ever went.

The hallway was clear.

Alright I'll just-

A familiar, salty scent filled the clean air. Her ears curled behind her, facing someone who approached from behind.

Her heart skipped a beat.

Fear was not a foreign concept to Pamela in any way. Indeed, her tail instinctively wagged when she was afraid and angry. And from the perspective of those behind her, her tail was doing just that -- some subconscious leftover of her bestial instincts that served to quietly alert others. In this case, she felt like both. Had it been the others walking up behind her, they'd have probably done so loudly. They'd not displayed a single shred of inclination towards stealth so far. Yet someone appeared right behind her. Claws sank into the ground while she was on all fours -- drawing marks on the solid tile for a moment. Yet she didn't' move. She neither whipped around to kick off whoever was behind nor moved to flee.

Instead she just was there frozen -- like a deer in headlights. She knew how she usually acted, yet something told her not to move. She felt oddly calm until...She felt someone tugging at her skirt, pulling it over her legs. Everyone else was not too far behind at this point.

WOOSH

The air displaced, Pam spinning like a tornado. One moment she was crouched on the ground sniffing. The next she was facing Zeke. Like him, her Carmel Colored skin was flush with red. Unlike him, she would be looking or at least trying, to look at her dead in the eyes. Given Zeke was taller, it made it a little easier. Words flew from her mouth with something of a hushed urgency.

"God damn it there's no time for this can't you see I'm sniffing here my skirt NEEDS to be short so that my legs can bend and GAH are you even listening whatever!" Her sentences practically melded together in one big blob and as if to attempt to compensate for her hushed tone, she gestured wildly throughout her tyraid. However, towards the end, she threw up her hands in exasperation and then simply marched off quietly.

She sighed to recompose herself, some lingering flush still. Yet her eyes looked sharply about to make sure nothing else caught her gaze.

Soon, however, she was able to get her mind re-oriented on task as they began to go further and further in the vault. And she got a lingering sense that she wasn't alone as they neared the next room. Once they get close to the Jiangshi Treasurebox room, she waits for the others a bit, ready to move out of the way in case of an oncoming attack. Yet no such attack ever came. Instead, the guy was standing here in the middle of the room.

"Crap. I knew this was too easy. There just had to be some shit up with the magic treasurebox."

She said, having called that there'd be some shenanigans concerning the box from the start. She looked behind her, claws unfurling as she saw another one of them show up. Yet she wasn't hostile either.

Yet rather than a fight, they got an explanation. For once, she agreed heavily with Elvrya. While the fact that they weren't getting jumped by god knows whatever nonsense the two might have had up their sleeves, she couldn't help but find herself more familiar with a fight and feeling pretty good about the company she had. Even if there were two of them.

Yet things proved themselves more complicated. Pam shielded her eyes as she watched the two be consumed in a grand display by the powerful entity in the box. And then soon found herself swept up in forces she barely understood.

The Prism

A quiet and peaceful sleep had been disrupted by the sounds of distant puking.

"HRRRRUUUUUGH!!!!" The sound of the vomiting was mangled, yet familiar.

She wasn't hungover oddly enough. Instead, she felt a pleasant drunkenness. It had been a long time since she felt comfortable and safe enough to be drunk in complete truth. She rolled over on her belly, pushing against the ground. The texture of soft soil could be felt beneath the protective tarp. Then it was that she remembered where exactly she was.

A tent. In the middle of a remote wilderness.

With the push of her hands -- she slowly rose to wobbling feet. And then she began to walk towards the tent's entrance. She threw open the tent and soon wobbled out.

4b052ce7bbcfbdd7173e50faa3b00888.jpg

She saw the source of the vomiting soon. That bastard ally friend of hers Shan-Yun. A distant name which was familiar to no one she currently knew. Not even the people who seen wielding his head and putting it in a bag to bring back to the guild.

Her jaw dropped. She said, as she continued to wander about the camp. Sounds of singing could be heard around a campfire. Off in the distance, she spotted someone pissing against a tree without a care in the world.

A tall lion beastkin sat casually at the fire. His mane the same color as sand and his fur followed. His eyes were in contrast, a deep blue. His frame was enourmous. And someone looking at him could tell he probably weighed as much as a lion did at several hundred pounds and standing somewhere around 8 feet tall. His eyes passed over Pam as he idly chowed down on an enormous leg of monstrous boar they'd caught.

Before soon, focusing on her as she walked.

"Garder." She said his name.

"What's up Pam? Haven't seen you this drunk in years! Glad to see you celebrate after we got that bigass haul." He answered casually.

Pam began to gulp profusely, trying and failing to hold back tears.

As she got closer and closer....she stumbled a bit. And then fell onto him. Her arms wrapped around his enormous frame. But she didn't seem to let go. Instead she hugged him tightly. "Garder" raised his arms to look down at her. Slowly but assuredly, Pamela had begun to weep in plain view everyone. And the others began to get quiet. The singing began to stop as they murmured among themselves.

"...I-I thought you were dead..." She stammered.

The men all exchanged glances, before soon they erupted into laughter.

"HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Their amusement echoed throughout the landscape. And Garder's was the loudest among them, like thunder. He answered, his voice overpowering most

"You thought we were gonna get wiped out by some random bunch of adventurers? HA! Get fucking real. Like the guild can get anyone who knows how to fight these days." He said.

"Who knew that bitch would finally drop the stick out her ass get all sentimental when she got drunk?" Said someone distant. More laughter.

"Sh-Shutup." She sniffled, wiping her tears with her arm...and then started chuckling. Garder reached down, patting her back with his enormous yet gentle hands.

Something wasn't right. It was simply good to be true. It couldn't have all been a dream....could it?

Zeke "Mors" Valdain

Zeke saw the storm of events happening before him, with his little altercation with Pam causing him to snicker some at her reaction regardless of how it actually went. It was a fun enough distraction from his previous embarrassment. He listened to Izzy whispering into his ear, scoffing as he lifted his hat up a moment, as he tried to talk his way out once more. "Bah. It bothers me that one of our members is giving out free cake like we're some charity. You pay with cash in a bakery." He said, his embarrassment accidentally letting out a bit of modern slang with how much he was fumbling around for words.

He grabbed his sword when the man began speaking, laughing a bit. "Oh, I love it when rats who don't have any understanding of spirits try to deal with shit like this by themselves. Thanks for the cash morons." Zeke said, his spite for the family showing through with his hatred of how they thought they pulled a fast one on him and his group, as he sheathed his sword. The dragons appearance made his gaze narrow, as he recalled that damn dragon back in the temple of the paizu mountains.
When the wind blast came, he whipped his hand to his sword, getting ready to try and block it, before the mental magic was formed around him. He felt his conciousness fade, gritting his teeth in defiance even then.

1724103276815.png
When Zeke's eyes opened, he could feel the familiar weight of his carapace, looking out through the glass of a spaceships viewing bay. He saw the nebula's, the stars, the beautiful waters of the planet beneath him. It was one of the only things that caused a tear to rise to his eye. He felt his shoulders shudder, the view rocking his soul with nostalgia and dreams of returning to it, missing so much his last life of endless exploration and adventure, the beautiful sights and wonders he could see in the world. It made tears stream down his face at how much he missed the stars, and the beauty of the endless.

But that was the thing. His old body couldn't cry. And these controls around, they weren't even functional. Just blinking lights and dials scattered randomly. He guessed that was a bit much to expect though, a chuckle rising to his lips. "Ic wene þæt swylc técnologie is swiðe to fæst for an þæt is þeah. Þu geafest godne æfðer, ac þis is fǽc. Ic þearf þæt þæt is soð. Ic þearf to rǣdan þa steorran eft, and þa unendlican freodom and wiðerweardnesse þǣr. Ic ne geþencan þæt ic ænig þing hæbbe be þære leornung þe þu wyrceð. Mīn gǣd is ne se problem, ac þæt is þæt þu stent betwix me and þære freodom minre heortan." He said, his mandibles clicking as he spoke in the language of his last life, before a deep laugh escaped his lips. He gazed up to where he assumed the dragon would be watching, and if his old body could smile, one would be rising to his lips. "Þine illūsiōnīe sind fæger, ac þū eart nāt swā god swā to wyrcen hīe swīþe genōg for mē. Wēaht and mirrōr for mōdā þāra læsra þonne mīn. Læt mē ðē geswīcgan þā trēowe miht." He raised his insectoid hand before himself, magic welling up within it as he cast Portal: Mortal Realm at Rank D. To add enough oomph to get himself and hopefully those of his crew out as well, he began using the empowering incantations he had created for it.

"Þine ēagan wǣron ǣr blindode, nū þurh mē geseoþ."
"Þine handa wǣron ǣr idla, nū þurh hīe sprece ic."
"And þonne þæt weoruld gehǣreþ, and þonne þæt weoruld geseoþ."
"AND þonne þæt WEORULD gemēne, þæt WEORULD WILCEN TO BEON."

As he shouted his final incantation, the world around him began to crack and shatter as the portal appeared, and as he walked through, his eyes in the main world snapping open as he grinned. He was free from the illusion, and now the only matter was to get his crew out too. "ROLL CALL LADS, WHO'S ALL ALIVE?" He called, trying to gauge if he was able to get other people out of the jade dragon as well.
"I guess that technology like this is a bit too complicated for a primitive like you. You gave a good effort though. But this is fake. I need the real deal. I need to reach the stars again, and the infinite freedom and expanse out there. I don't give a shit about the lesson you're trying to teach me. My greed isn't the problem, it's the fact you're standing between me and the freedom of my heart."

"Your illusions are fair, but you are not so good as to create them well enough for me. Lights and mirrors for minds lesser than mine. Let me show you true power."

"Your eyes once were blinded, now through me do you see
Your hands once were idle, now through them do I speak
And when the world shall open, and when my world shall be
AND WHEN THIS WORLD REMEMBERS, THAT WORLD WILL YIELD TO ME"

Naori did what was probably the most he’s done in terms of displaying any emotion. Which was rolling his eyes at Elyvra and Hiroshi.

“You guys wouldn’t know the potential for immortality if it crashed into your skull and made your head leak”

He replied to both of them. He didn’t bother looking in the direction of the bakery. He told Hiroshi.

“I would have assumed you knew me better.”

He answers with a toneless voice. A simple statement following the others and being bombarded with more adults bickering and chattering over something that probably could’ve been brought to an expert on magical items. Widersia was a country that prided its technological advancement over magic, but the way he understood it, there were options. Could they not take this curse thing to a professional? Just seemed stupid. While he was pondering all the other alternatives they could’ve chosen if they were smart, suddenly that dragon thing showed up and a bright light flashed from a horn on it’s head.

Then he was somewhere new.

Looking around, de ja vu panged at the back of his head. No, he was somewhere old. He recognized these halls. The halls that had peeling wallpaper and pictures on the walls of different kids and the uncomfortable and tacky-looking carpeted floor. But he couldn’t be there. Naori thought

‘This…can’t be correct…it was burned down…the see burnt it all down…’

His mixed-matched eyes fluttered from all the things he grew up with in this world, taken back by it all. Then he heard laughs and giggles. Children running around all of which he was familiar with. He felt a cold hand on his shoulder as he turned his head. A boy with brown hair and teal eyes met his gaze with a smile on his face.

“What’s that look for, Nao! Come on, let’s go eat breakfast.”

An uncomfortable feeling flickered in the back of Naori’s head. He hadn’t heard that nickname in a while. A vague sense of sadness and grief that was barely audible in the corner of his mind.

“Felix…no…it…”

He had no words and the face on the boy contorted into confusion.

“What’s wrong, Nao?”

This wasn’t right. Felix isn’t alive, the kids….there should only be a handful, including himself, dead. Felix and most of the others should be dead. They died when the town was attacked during this war by the Fae. Naori turned his head.

“I’m sorry Felix.”

He answered by bringing his dagger, attempting to plunge it into his skull with a [mundane] attack.

With what seemed to be out of games to play and having exhausted his time talking to the young gambler who was under the impression his far future was perfectly secured for success, Whizzie could only go ahead and choose to take his time elsewhere to see if there was anything at all to do albeit feeling his own time and enjoyment here had run out. Sighing softly, the incubus could only expect that whatever the red envelope winnings were would hold no actual value in the long run if they couldn't be redeemed for the mystery prize in the end. Silently wondering if it truly was just one big waste of time coming out here, he briefly ruminated on the actual reason he had chose to come and mulled it over.

After some brief consideration, he couldn't help but think maybe his brothers were right. Wherever he would go, he would inevitably be persecuted and hated for being a monster if people were to find out, yet here he was ditched for those who the society of the Second Continent deemed 'not monsters'. It was fittingly ironic, how a supposed 'monster' could just be here for a little fun yet those not considered monsters are ready to lie and steal at a moment's notice. Thinking back to the slave transportation, Whizzie wondered if all the non-monster races were as corrupt as that and were all just looking to get an unfair advantage over one another for selfish gain. Maybe his big brother was right, and that only true-blooded monsters were to be trusted and respected.

Sighing, he wondered if he should look for Hiroshi to tell him that he was just gonna leave seeing as there wasn't much of any sort of 'date' happening between them, before realising the man was probably who-knows-where. The only other person he remembered recently seeing was that blue... fish-dragon woman? Though as he looked around, things looked vaguely different like it was some sort of dream where not all of the details were correct. That woman should've been somewhere in sight, wasn't she playing the person that he was gonna play next?

"This is starting to look all a bit weird... I don't remember this. Or being... here, did I go somewhere else subconsciously?" Whizzie quietly mumbled, wondering if he had moved or things really did change. Then, a spotlight having shone upon him as surrounding strangers began clapping and cheering in his honor. As he looked around, the visual of being inside a casino turned into a whole audience outside of a giant castle of which he stood on the balcony of.

"Well, this is a sight after all, though I'm not sure if it's real... " Whizzie mumbled as he looked over the mixed crowd of monsters and non-monster races. Then, he'd feel the startling touch of a larger man from behind wrap his arms around Whizzie's small self.

"You've been out here being appreciated by your adoring fans for a while. When are you gonna come and spend some personal quality time with me, little cupcake?~" the unknown individual asked in a tempting tone. When the incubus would look to see who the big, strong individual was, he'd be met with a FILLER WHIZZIE'S SUBCONSCIOUS IDEA OF A MOST ATTRACTIVE MAN FOR THIS SCENE THAT IS AND SHOULD TOTALLY BE WRITTEN IN EXPLANATION HERE BUT ISN'T FOR PURPOSES OF NOT INTENTIONALLY CLARIFYING OR FORESHADOWING TASTES OR ROMANTIC INTERESTS.

The incubus held silent for a moment, looking around. No, he was just at the casino. This had to be fake or something.

Snare
He didn't know why, but he decided to listen to Elvyra. He could have been swayed either way, but he respected her willingness to take action. It was a far too rare trait. It made him all to eager to meet the head of the family, he could only dream of the power this man must possess to have such influence. Pam had taken point, the captain followed suite. It made him bristle with excitement at the prospect of seeing zeke knee deep in bloodshed. chilled air leaking through his barbed teeth, skulking close to the ground as he crept behind the rest of the group.

Their target was at hand, and snare...couldn't have been more disappointed.

"A shell of a man with the weight of his family clawing at his potential...such a waste" He growled, coiling wire along his heels, preparing. He didn't know why, but the more that Lu spoke, the more his blood boiled. He was incredibly clever and withheld power in favor of faltering ideals. He had been growing an interest in this man the moment he heard him speak, but hearing his resignation. There was something akin to conviction Snare held onto, even in his twisted way.

"Your father had more of a spine than you do" He seethed "He died for his cause, yet you seek an out from gamblers and thieves? Coward" He said, vitriol wrapped around every word. His barbed wire hide started to writhe, but something unprecedented halted any further plans. The family had been consumed by the Treasure Box, and in their stead, a dragon appeared. He had only seen them in fairytales and media back in his previous life, but didn't even stop to consider they might be real in this world. It's words made no sense to him, and the dragon didn't give him time to react. A jade prism enshrouding his being.

He was surrounded by a web of black etched paintings; eyes of various sizes, shapes and even pupil number decorated the web in esoteric and eldritch assembly. Corners nonexistent, yet there were harsh angles to the paintings construction. There was momentary flight of confusion across his ghostly features before the sound of uproarious applause was heard around him. The show was on a massive dias, slowly turning in circles and showing the many facets of his Web of Unease

Oh right, of course.

This was the grand opening of his art gallery. A unholy sanctuary for the black markets of the world to conspire, auction, and fight over the art of infamous sculptor, Alistair Greygarden. A man whom had left grotesque and abhorrent sculptures made of the very victims he slaughtered. These pieces were sought after by the blackest of hearts, usually in the highest of positions. Alistair surprised to find that he was growing an alarming fanbase of macabre individuals who saw the art in his work, just as he did.

Oh right. of course.

Alistair Greygarden was him.

A smile illuminated his face, light from underneath the floor revealed him through the web of his art, puppeteering a family of four enjoying their dinner; wire laced throughout their forms and accentuating their fatal wounds with wires of various shades of red. A cornucopia at the center, containing an active witch trial perpetrated by wireframe puppets. He wrung out his wrist and roiled the wire connected to his art pieces, and like a vehement chain reaction. His wire heated and triggered their last moments. A chorus of screams and moans overwhelmed by another wave of claps. The shadowy figures that surrounded his despicable art show ranging in nearly the hundreds.

"I am in heaven, looking at hell"

The night ha come to a peak, and the gambling is finally over. The Heist is still underway however...

Elvyra gasped as she broke free from the Jade prism and was met with fresh air. Her eyes were bleary as she blinked repeatedly to clear her vision, and saw the Jade Dragon before her again. His vibrant green color was washed out as more of the party had also broken free, including Captain Mors who announced for a roll call. "I'm here at least, I think we're missing someone..." Elvyra said, and she looked to see all of them had broken free except for Snare who was still very much encased in his Jade prism. "Someone work to get him out, I can't be bothered...this nights dragged on long enough, and I'm getting thirsty." That was a more couth way of saying she needed blood before the night was over with, or else. The Jade Dragon let out an annoying loud bellow as it lost its vibrant green hue in it's scales, and fell to the ground.

Elvyra walked up to investigate now that the Dragon was no longer a threat. She stomped harshly on it's large snout with an angry glare, "The only thing I hate more than Monsters is ones who feel the need to preach to me! Well, it don't matter. I reckon we can carve you up and sell your scales for a quick buck. How's that sound you over grown lizard?" The dragon did not answer, and instead it dissolved itself completely. Not into dust, but into the largest pile of gold coins Elvyra had ever seen. In the middle of the heap lay the two remaining Jiangs, still worse for wear but very much in one piece.

They both stood up from the pile, confused and in a daze. "What happened? What did you all do?" Mei asked.

"The spiritual beast inside must have broken free when the Treasurebox captured us. I assume by this...large mass of money that you defeated it somehow? That's...good." It was a bit awkward now, they were still being robbed technically even if the two of them had planned this from the beginning. "Thank you, brave adventurer's. I'm sure there's some way we could repay you!"

"Oh brother look! A piece of the Treasurebox remains intact." Mei held up a small piece of glowing jade. "With this, we can finally start over! Start a new, more fulfilling life free from the struggles of the curse. I assume it works like the old one? 'Conjure a necklace.'" As Mei said those words, a small pearl necklace appeared in her hands. "Ah it does work still. But I suppose it can only make items this size now...No matter, It's still functional. This is fantastic news-"

A single gunshot rang through the air and Mei Jiang fell down, dead where she stood. Elvyra's pistol was pointed directly at her, and before her brother could do anything, she shot him too, close enough to not miss the mark. Elvyra walked up to Mei's fallen body, and gingerly took the small piece of Jade from her cold hands with a smile. "I'll be taking that, thank you." Elvyra said. "Conjure me gold enough to fill these vaults." At those words, the small piece of jade glowed brightly before the entire large room they were in quickly filled with gold coin in each of the previous empty vaults. "Well would you look at that. Enough gold for all of us. I'm taking my share, and you can divy the rest up Mr. Mors. I don't need all this gold. Just enough to get my own private business off the ground." Besides...there's no need for us to work together anymore. Taking more than what I agreed to wouldn't be wise with this bunch. Elvyra used the small jade to conjure bags to carry the gold in for herself and began to quickly stuff what she could into them. Afterwards, she noticed the small jade had become a black stone, and would no longer work when she spoke the words.

"According to the very limited intel I could get my hands on, there's a back door in these vaults that lead to the surface. My rides waiting outside, the rest of you I'm sure you can figure your own transportation out." With 5 heft bags in hand full of gold, Elvyra bid them goodbye. "Stop by in Azuran City if you ever need a hand. Or a loan..." She added with a sinister chuckle before taking her leave for the night.

After the Nights end....
Elvyra sipped coffee (laced with blood from a previous client who'd failed to pay back his debts) as she read the newspaper for that morning. They'd found the two Jiangs dead in the basement, after the Gambling party had ended in abject disaster.

The Jiangs were Monster's all along? Failed Gambling party at Goldpot Casino!

Two members of the Jiang family, owners of the famous Goldpot Casino, were found dead in their own vaults from bullet wounds. Alongside that, their vaults were mysteriously empty, and reports think they may have been robbed blind unsuspectingly! A quick autopsy of their bodies however revealed a shocking discovery: The Jiangs are NOT human. Nor are they elves, vampires, or any other magical life longed creature. It is is highly suspected that they may be Monsters, which brings into question the legitimacy of the Goldpot Casino as a whole.

Shu Jiang has refused questioning, but Clockhaven authorities have stated they're working on an investigation into his dealings, as he's the only one culpable for the crime commited. It just gets even worse, as the Goldpot has also announced it's immediate and permanent closure, as they get into hot legal trouble due to not being able to pay out any winners from last nights gambling extravaganza!

We'll try to bring more light to this story once we have more information. If you or someone you know gambled recently at the Goldpot, send a letter to....

Elvyra chuckled and set the paper down. She wouldn't stick around in Gambler's Row anymore, while her vacation had been nice, it was time to hitch a train ride back to Azuran City. Now that she was much wealthier than before, she had big plans. This heist was successful, only time would tell if there were more to come in the future...

After being newly freed from his own Jade Prison that seemed to break as soon as he stabbed the imposter in the face he took in a few deep breaths and rubbed his hands around his eyes, they were strangely enough wet. He rubbed his face to get weird at the small amount of water that leaked from them. It was strange but he wasn’t going to question it much. He looked around for Whizzie or Hiroshi although he wouldn’t be surprised if it was time for them to go their separate ways. Likely the two would be spared for now until Naori got his tools and a lab together. It wasn’t intended or agreed upon to meet back up in Widersia anyhow but if they ever meet up again he was turning them into constructs whether the two wanted it or not. Naori did his best to grab his share from the heist. This was an extremely odd night, and then he simply left. If the demon and Yakuza decided to follow or something he didn’t notice.

Rubbing his eyes, Hiroshi came out of that ridiculous, fabricated memory he was experiencing. Things were never that easy and wouldn't ever be as well. With his gaze coming into focus, he made a quick check of the room, noticing Naori had already gone and that the two brothers now laid on the floor, bullet holes on them and the smell of gunpowder permeating the air. "Good riddance." The said with a snort, checking all the gold now present in the room. That would do fine.

"Good job everyone, good job. Seems like your friend need some help." He said nonchalantly, seeing that Snare was still held captive within those fake memories. "I will be taking my associate's part as well, seeing that he isn't here." He announced. However, it was impossible for him to even get his own share, not enough hands to go around. Still, it didn't seem to matter that much, not with how heavy those bags were. Casting a glance back at Zeke, Pam and Izzy, he grinned. "A pleasure working with you." With those words, he simply left vault.

He would backtrack all the way to the upper floors of the casino, looking for and waiting around to see if he would happen to find Whizziemin, his hands full of bags of glittering gold.

Time. It had been a long time since she last felt so acutely aware of it. Every second that ticked by felt burdensome, followed by her own feigned smiles, naive interest, lively chatter and the appropriate laughter. Ugh. Why was she even here again? Stalling and dilly dallying for a ragtag crew of criminals she had just met a couple hours ago. Was it worth it? Was this even the path she wanted to take? Playing with an idle die in between her indigo claws as Shu messed around, she could feel her own thoughts spiralling from the boredom.

She blinked lazily, tossing her die with a languid flick. But just as she reached out to catch it, she felt her arm be forcibly stilled.

She looked down in a daze, numbly trailing the familiar sight of multi-coloured wires sticking out of her skin. She remembered she used to count them, and make bets with herself what colours they'd be the next day. There was a lot of red. Was she low on blood again? Who knows. Maybe if they'd stop hanging her from the ceiling of a suspension tube in a mass of wires and metal poles, she'd be less anemic aye? And they called themselves doctors. What a joke.

Her thoughts slowly stilled as she caught sight of herself in the eerily clear and transparent glass across from her. Hair an ugly greyish-blond. Eyes once silver. Pale skin and a thinner, younger body.

Certainly, it was a nostalgic sight. But that was not enough to make her lose herself.

Roughly tearing out the needles and frayed tubes from her skin, she yawned and stretched her limbs casually upon landing on the cold tiles beneath her. What happened? Where was she? Wasn't she just in the casin-

---

"Now this is just cruel."

She mocked dryly, her face contorting into an ugly, tearful expression even as she tried her best to rationally suppress her emotions. But the face across from her just smiled. That goofy, dumb smile that drove her crazy every time. Tiny wolven ears peeked out of his fluffy, snow-white mop of hair, completely covering his eyes like they always did. His tail wagged excitedly behind him, like a little puppy dog. Never faltering... yet never coming back.

She didn't even realize when she had fallen to her knees. Blood lightly trickled from her torn wounds, but it didn't hurt at all. Crawling to his side, she could only wrap her arms around him gently, as if he was a porcelain doll about to vanish and break. "I'm sorry... I could not save you." The voice that trembled as it barely came out was her own, though near unrecognizable compared to her usual lazy and low timbre.

Quietly, she just sat there, waiting for the inevitable. Gradually, it was the familiar ticking of a clock that shattered that warm illusion, splintering into fragments of jade before fading away.

Raia awoke with a start, breathing heavily as she painfully clawed at her chest. It was just a dream. An illusion. She knew that more than anyone. But it still felt so real... or maybe she just wanted to start believing it was. Clenching her fist, she suddenly vaguely noticed a winged shadow floating or wavering towards her.

"Hey, are you... real, Ma'am, the... real fish-dragon-lady who was totally here earlier when things weren't... a mess, or did you see everything change to a different place too? I-I mean it doesn't entirely matter what the other place was or was about I saw somewhere else but it didn't really matter much at all it was kind of just some other place that wasn't very important, but you know, it was kind of impromptu. You're not, like, fake or something now to mess with me right? You're real and we're back in the real casino?"

Before she could even process, a dainty little finger poked her cheek, and she shook her head with a start. "Ah... yeah. I'm real." She rubbed her poked cheek with a mild chuckle, her mind still a little elsewhere, but fortunately mostly back in the present now. "It's good to see you made it out in one piece too. Wouldn't know how to explain to your little boyfriend otherwise." She smiled amusedly, before catching sight of a familiar red suit making his way up the stairs in the distance. "Speak of the devil." She winked at Whizzie before nodding in Hiroshi's direction.

"Lookin' at those bags, I think this is farewell. So, take care out there lil demonette." She smiled before waving him off lazily, and keeping an eye out for some sort of signal or the rest of her crew members. It was a bit of a mess, and she didn't know why this guy was walking out explicitly with bags of gold, but seemed all had ended well in the end.

Whizzie didn't know where or why he was trapped, only that he'd need to focus his efforts in order to escape. Trying to concentrate, and with some sort of unknown miracle, the prison turned out to be not so strong as he managed to get his way out of the fake illusion. Looking around in a half-panic unsure what had even happened to land him in there, he wondered if there was some sort of orchestrated trap of some kind specifically for him. When he had returned, the place around them appeared to look like the casino as he had remembered it prior and scanning the area for some sort of familiarity as he recognised a sleeping fish-dragon-lady who had talked to him earlier. They might know what was going on, if they were real at least. Hesitantly walking over to them, he reluctantly reached out and gave a light poke on their cheek to see if they were a real being or some sort of terrifying nightmare jumpscare waiting for him to take his curiosity too far.

You're real and we're back in the real casino?" the incubus questioned, although to his satisfaction Raia appeared to wake up and be an actually completely normal being that wasn't an illusion. He still had no idea what that whole thing was about, but it felt like it was all over. Listening to what she had to say, he held a moment in thought before Hiroshi had made a visible appearance with what appeared to be gained wealth from the heist. If he had stolen it, it felt pretty cocky to walk directly back out into public with all of his... questionably 'legitimate' winnings.

"Ah, right, you have your own friends to get to. Well good luck in the future, I'm sure you'll find success with what should be your earnings" Whizzie smiled back to Raia, not really having any clue who they were still or getting to know them but just finding that they weren't uncomfortably annoying or serious like what some of the other heistmembers may have been. Though 'speak of the devil' was right since Hiroshi had clearly come looking for them.

"Oh, I was just thinking of something to come looking for you to say, but then there appeared to be... some sort of hold-up. Though I'm at least glad to see that your gambling went well, hopefully you can manage to stay out of trouble and find a good use to put it to. I'd perhaps stay a little, but I'm sure I've got other places to be and... well, especially with maybe some other things happening here, it's not really a good idea for me to stick around for so long considering probably you know what. So I'm gonna go take off elsewhere, maybe we can try this whole 'date' thing another time. I gotta take my leave to make sure unnecessary attention doesn't snoop my way, y'know. Can't stick around in broad light forever, there's quite a lot of people who would kill for my blood to be spilled" Whizzie answered with a slight whisper, smirking and blowing a small kiss before starting to walk to take his leave with a slight sway in the hips and a flick of the tail. He wasn't too interested in getting any money that he didn't exactly steal, he hadn't come to do robbery anyway, plus it could be more interesting to just see what Hiroshi chose to do with it anyway. For now, he'd best leave the scene as soon as possible to avoid getting in trouble on the mere premise that he was a Monster.

Zeke "Mors" Valdain

Zeke glanced around as the others began to wake up from their prisms, sighing a moment and sheathing his blade once the dragon vanished, his eyes staring down those who weren't part of his crew when they began to move around, particularly at Elvyra when she shot the two spirits and began using the jade dragons remains. He waited aside once she began doing that, his fingers feeling his flintlock a moment as he began debating if it was worth his reputation to shoot her now and make an example of her. She thought she could tell HIM what to do in front of his OWN crew. But as he knew before, the only thing a pirate had going for them was their reputation for honesty, and even if she had insulted him, it wasn't worth burning future bridges just to shoot her now. Instead, he simply walked past her and grabbed the burnt out remains of the jade dragon, chuckling and pocketing it. If he knew his spirits, this thing would recharge soon enough. Not that he'd be letting the bitch know.

"Don't offer loans to pirates." He said simply in response to, what he could only assume was, an attempt to intimidate them or make herself look stronger. "I'll get snare outta the damn crystal, Pam guard the loot. Izzy, go find Raia and get this stuff gathered up. We're taking a portal back to the Gearwright, this should be enough to get that ship made." He said, explaining the plan to his crewmates as he grabbed the last prism and began to enter into it to get his crewmate back. He had no intention of letting that monster sit in his daydream when he had things to be doing for his crew.

The Prism

Without warning -- Pam abruptly shoved against Garder.

Given the man's frame, this mostly pushed her away more than really moving him. "Jeez, first your huggin' me and then you're pushing me away! Moody as ever I see..."

"Hey uh, Garder. I....I gotta go." She scratches the back of her head. For a moment. And then grips her arm. Sharp claws dig into her arm.

"Mm. Alright. Ain't like I ever made you stay here. " He lowered his hand, until it was down to about her leg. "I still remember your scrawny, starving ass following us when you this high. Ha! Still not tall. But you've filled out. I won't be surprised if eventually you can knock my ass out."

A slight grin takes her face.

"Yeah. Maybe one day I'll get the chance." Her smile turns bittersweet.

"Careful, wait too long and you might have to try your luck in hell."

"Mm. I dunno. I like to take my time. But I'll see about trying it there."

"That so?"

Pam began to back up. "Yeah." She turned around and walked off. "See you in Hell, maybe." The alcohol-like haze that made her question fact from fiction dissipated. She ran from the fortified safety of their bandit camp, guards standing by looking confused as Pam ran off into the woods by herself and disappeared into the darkness.

The Real World

Fist clench. Her leg kicks out beneath her. A leg pushes out into the end of the spear and her fist moves into the wall. Whether this was necessary or not? One couldn't tell. Either way, after this, the prism that trapped Pam shattered into thousands of pieces.

CRASH

She falls to the ground and crumples on one knee. Looking at the casino floor for a moment, her wild hair dangling into front of her face and concealing her eyes for a moment before.

CRACK

A clenched fist punches the floor out of anger, sending fissures out a few inches. Pam stands up immediately after. "I ought wear those shiny scales of yours like a fucking coat You overgrown lizard." She said to the dragon before...it simply crumpled into dust. With that, it seemed like she wasn't going to get the chance to make that dream a reality. What did appear to be a reality was a big ass pile of money. And that more than madeup for the lack of vengeance.

"Alright!" She said. The only ones who seemed like they might be standing in the way were the two Jiangsu. Pam had no clue what it was they intended to do. And no intention of finding out. As they began to rejouice, the bunny began to walk over with claws in tow. Thankfully two gunshots rang out. And they were both swiftly put down.

"Nice. That takes care of that." So to the family saga appeared to have ended. A criminal who'd come here to simply rob the place blind, she'd simply had no investment in any of it. Just as she was about to mention going after Raia, it appeared that the Captian was on it. He told her to watch the gold and instead of going to check on Raia, she'd allow Izzy to it.

To the others not apart of the crew Pam spoke, looking at Hiroshi in particular since he decided to speak up. "Thanks. Not opposed to working with you again. Take your fair share and bounce."

Elvyra was allowed to take her fair share too. To her she commented. "Alright. I'll keep that in mind. In this world, only gets harder when it's hard to find people to trust." She said, liking connections and to keep in touch -- yet knowing that ultimately it was hard to trust. There was no law among them. Most it seemed the threat of force, whatever shred of honor each person may have had and self interest.
"Do we have to grab snare? I'll take his share if he doesn't want it." She said with a smirk, sight of such a massive pile of treasure doing wonders for her. "I'll help pack some of this stuff up so we can get the fuck out." Pam said, soon starting to load all their treasure into bags for easy pick up and haul into the spirit world.

"Sooner we're on that boat, the better."

Gambler’s Row is a small town in Widersia located just south of Clockhaven that’s known for being an entertainment and gambling hub. Art Deco style buildings, jazz halls, and smoke dens are very popular spots in Gambler’s Row. Constructs are often seen as guards or security for the businesses in Gambler’s Row, and automation is very common.

Character Sheet Oddities (Mention any noticeable oddities or inconsistencies in character sheets related to their purchases. Note: There's no need for a full evaluation; simply highlight any unusual findings during your review.)

  • N/A (everyone’s character sheet is up to code)

Aftermath and Potential Lore Updates The Goldpot casino would fall from grace and a new casino or entertainment venue in Gambler’s Row could take it’s place seeing as two more murders occured after the untimely death of the owner. An investigation would be done to try and discover who was behind it all which could lead to the characters who participated in the Heist to be [WANTED] by the authorities in Gambler’s Row.

Narrator Bonuses N/A

Additional Notes Additional Skill rewards that I wanted to give out were Wealth F to signify that the characters had actually gotten richer.

Rp was definitely on the longer side, but props for the efforts that kept it from going another month or more XD
Narrator lacked standing to run a full town or to command npcs with much clout or influence, so assume the rp took place in a village among the locals and their monstrous neighbors. Not the biggest score, but the beginnings don't have to be grand. they just gotta start somewhere and build.
Perhaps the heist drove the place into the ground before it could maintain or gain noteworthy recognition.

The criminal titles are coming fast and loose. I'm assuming everyone knew what they signed up for, but let Lolory know of any disputes :3
Was recommended you guys buy wealth skill if you have the standing and points for it to justify any spending money gained from the heist.

Aftermath

Gambler's row would fall from any heights it had climbed with the latest news cycle. It became a place those with money and sense would steer clear or be parted from potentially both. Authorities would put out wanted posters around the village and neighboring villages for the ones that committed the heist, but the bounty wasn't much and it was hard to muster enthusiasm for justice for the dead in this particular situation. Antagonistic forces would be keeping an eye out for anymore wanna be heist meisters.
