Realistic or Modern Whispering Pines ᨒ↟ 𖠰 ~ Cozy Winter SOL ~ MAIN

now playing: golden - zella day

Having someone to talk to, even if it was just idle chit-chat, was actually kind of nice for once. She barely spent time with anyone outside of the people at the rink and her family, so it was refreshing to have a conversation with someone who wasn't any of them. And it wasn't because she wasn't a nice person, or hated talking to people at all - she just preferred her own company, that's all. Molly stifled a yawn as the girl beside her began to speak once more. She had wore herself out today, that was for sure. "The lodge is really nice, especially if it's your first time visiting. I don't think I've ever actually been inside a room there, but I've heard great things about it." Having lived in Revelstoke all of her life, there was no need for her to book a room at the lodge.

Sometimes she wished that she could be a visitor, looking in through a frosted windowpane. But alas, she was stuck living here, and there was nothing she could do about it. "Yeah, I totally get that. Parties aren't everyone's thing...I mean, it's definitely not mine." Now, if she were more like Mikey, she'd be another party animal. But she wasn't. She was her own person. "I don't really know what else is going on tonight. I was just trying to suggest stuff for you to do since you're visiting." Molly let out a sigh, pinching the space between her nose and her eyebrows. "If I'm being entirely honest here, I'm more in tune with the whole winter sports aspect here. My whole family is. Christmas events, on the other hand...not really my thing. At my house, we give each other a couple of gifts Christmas Day and then avoid each other like the plague for the rest of the time being."

The Hardings weren't as united as they appeared to be from the outside looking in. Molly, of course, knew that, being smack dab in the middle of it all, but everyone who knew the Hardings thought them out to be a sporty, high-achieving family. They seemed like the perfect cookie-cutter household. Molly hated that. She hated the need to be perfect. And as she stood there, an idea started to brew deep within her. "I think I'm going to go to that party tonight."

Sutton Sullivan wanted a fresh start, again. And that's what she was determined to get especially in the picturesque town of Revelstoke. It was the perfect place for her to write her next book and gather inspiration. The town itself was as if a romance movie come to life.

Sutton was excited to be driving towards the Revelstoke Mountain Lodge where she would be staying but also there was a festival to attend that night and she has to admit she was moreso excited for that.

That was until her truck started to sputter. Sutton still drove her 1998 Chevy SIlverado which was on its last legs. It had been giving her problems lately, but she always just brushed it off.
"Please do not do this to me right now."
She groaned and tapped her dashboard lightly. But sure enough, smoke started to spill out from under the hood. She swore and pulled to the side of the highway, quickly googling to see if an auto repair show was open. There were 2 options: Redfern Autoshop and Mountain View. Since she was on the mountain she decided to call Mountain View to request a tow. Sure enough, it wouldn't be long until the tow would be arriving and she would be saved.

JACE WALKER
The day was slow, but anything to do with town gatherings usually was, and Jace was bored out of his mind. Not only did he have nothing to work on but he also wasn't the type of guy to just mosey on down to a festival. He didn't do well around people. They didn't like him and he didn't like them. And not because they really gave him any reason to but growing up constantly being hurt by others just taught him being alone was what's best for him.

It wasn't until he was just starting to organize his tool box when the phone started ringing. A woman broken down on the highway. At least he finally had something to do with this slow day. Not wanting to keep her waiting long, Jace hurried to pull on his jacket and hop into the tow truck. From the directions she gave him, luckily she wasn't too far away from his shop and it wasn't long until he saw the broken down vehicle in the distance. Without a word, Jace pulled up, hopping out, and began attaching her truck to the tow. "Do you want to ride in your truck or mine?" He asked, assuming with the cold, hers wouldn't be of much use.

He did his best not to look at her. From the one glace he had gotten, she was gorgeous. But he definitely didn't want to give off the wrong vibe when he was just trying to work. So his eyes stayed anywhere but her. He took his work seriously, especially with how much the previous owners just gave to him. How he worked his way up and earned it all. He couldn't mess that sort of thing up by getting wrapped up in pretty girls.

Ivy Hayes

The Influencer

Ivy could hardly contain her excitement to see one of her oldest friends, so she dedicated the entire day to the preparations. The anticipation bubbled within her as she meticulously planned every detail, wanting everything to be perfect for their reunion. As night fell, the world outside transformed, and she felt ready to shine.

She chose to wear her hair sleek and straight, a style she often favored, though it was unusual for her to forgo some decorative touch. Tonight, however, she felt that her simple baby pink dress, with its large, eye-catching bow at the breast area, spoke volumes on its own. The soft fabric draped gracefully over her figure, and she admired how it shimmered gently in the low light of her room, perfectly complementing her vibrant energy.

Despite the chilly evening air, Ivy prioritized fashion above all else. She slid her feet into a pair of charming white flats, each adorned with delicate baby pink bows that added a playful touch. As she wrapped herself in a soft, plain white shawl, she felt a mix of comfort and style, readying herself for the festivities ahead.

With a final glance in the mirror, she stepped out into the brisk night, her heart racing with excitement. As she made her way to the festival, the crisp air filled her lungs, invigorating her spirit. Upon her arrival, she paused to take in the enchanting scene around her. Colorful lights twinkled like stars, strung across trees and poles, illuminating the festival with a magical glow.

She eagerly scanned the crowd for Niaomi, unsure of where her friend might be among the throng of people. In the distance, she spotted Wren and Belle, twirling joyfully in a flurry of laughter, their faces aglow with pure happiness. Ivy chuckled softly at the sight, their carefree spirits infectious.

The gentle snow began to fall, each flake dancing through the air and landing softly on her shoulders, adding to the enchanting atmosphere. The world felt alive, wrapped in a blanket of white, and it warmed her heart even more. Yet, despite the beauty surrounding her, one thing was still missing—the long-awaited reunion with her hopefully soon-to-be roommate. The thought only heightened her anticipation as she looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of Niaomi's familiar face in the crowd.

awson's eyes carefully scanned her from head to toe as her questions hung in the air between them. "Ah yes, a constable now," he said, the words emerging a bit gruffly as he cleared his throat. He couldn't help but notice the way she pulled his coat tighter around her shivering frame, the damp fabric clinging to her skin where her drink had spilled.

"Yes, of course. Let's get you to the truck and out of this cold,"
he offered, his hands running anxiously through the disheveled strands of his hair before he reached down to gather up her bags. Lawson led the way, guiding her across the uneven ground towards the waiting vehicle parked nearby.

Once they reached the truck, he efficiently tossed her belongings into the trunk, then turned back to her, extending a hand as he opened the passenger side door. "Here, let me help you get in," he said, his voice softening with an underlying current of concern. "We'll have you warmed up and on your way to the lodge in no time."

"Woah Okay."

now playing: perfect weather for a crime - helena deland

The divorce was final. Naomi Irwin was officially single again, both physically and legally. The past seven years of her life were gone, just like that. Julian was gone, just like that. He left Revelstoke for good, leaving behind his once-shared townhouse, prosperous career as an accountant, and the girl he once loved in the dust. Now, Naomi was trying to pick up the pieces, alone for the first time in seven years.

And you know what? Despite her heart being shattered into a million pieces, Naomi was going to be just fine. At first, it didn't seem like it, but six months on, she was starting to feel like her old self again. The only downside? The Festival of Lights, arguably the most coveted reporting job in Revelstoke this time of year, was being covered by the Good Morning Revelstoke crew. And Naomi was pissed. Nathaniel, the editor-in-chief at CKWC, had passed her up again for coverage of the event. He had already given Julie the lead anchor position that had gone vacant after Danielle had gotten a better gig at a rival station, despite Naomi's best efforts to convince him that she was the woman for the job.

So she was stuck in what felt like an empty home, the glow of her pathetic little Christmas tree lighting up the corner of her living room. Christmas wouldn't be the same without Julian. He always had a way of making the season bright. But he had enough of her shit, and he had left her high and dry. Guess it served her right, trying to have it all. Oh well. Naomi was curled up on the couch underneath a fuzzy blanket, flipping through the cable channels aimlessly. The station didn't want her. Julian didn't want her. She was just unwanted. That was, until her phone lit up with a text notification. It was Ivy, giving her the pep talk she didn't even realize she needed right now and to get herself down to the festival right now.

Ivy would have to give her some time to get ready. Because, after all, a faded Patriots shirt and red flannel pajama pants weren't going to cut it when it came to the bitter cold outside. So she pressed the off button on her TV remote, sitting up and slinging the blanket over the back of the couch. She'd definitely have to try to turn out a look - but she was going to do it as warmly as possible. She wasn't going to shiver all night long, that was for sure.

One shower later and Naomi was slipping on some black undergarments and tights. She had no idea what she'd wear, but it had to be something good. Flipping through her closet, she pulled out a white pinafore dress that she typically wore during the summer. It could work...but there was no way in hell she was going to wear it without a thick sweater underneath. So a dark grey turtleneck went on, followed by the dress. The outfit was coming together perfectly. A pair of black ankle boots and black blazer completed the core of the look. But she needed accessories.

Red always worked with black and white. Naomi decided to go with a red crossbody bag and drop earrings before brushing her hair and pulling it into a neat bun. She made sure her bangs looked perfect before putting on makeup—nothing too heavy, just a natural-looking eyeshadow look and nude lip. Now she was ready to go. Grabbing her phone, she got into her white Jeep Wagoneer, headed off to the festival. She didn't live in the heart of town, and walking would make her even more late. If she had any chance of meeting Ivy before the festival's end, then she was driving.

It had been too long since she had seen her best friend. Naomi had again chosen work over her personal life. But not this time. As she found a place to park, she made a personal pledge to make the most of her time with Ivy tonight. She hopped down from the driver's side, closing and locking the vehicle before making her way into the festival. It was absolutely packed. But that didn't surprise her much - it was Christmastime in Revelstoke, and everyone wanted to see the lights. After a few moments that felt like an utter nightmare to get through, she finally spotted Ivy from across the crowded festival. Naomi grinned, making a beeline for her best friend. "Ivy!"

Ivy took a deep breath, the crisp winter air filling her lungs as she scanned the bustling crowd gathered in Revelstoke, British Columbia for the annual Festival of Lights. It was two weeks before Christmas, and the town was alive with the festive spirit. Twinkling lights adorned the streets, casting a warm glow over the scene.

Suddenly, I heard my name being called out over the din of the crowd. Turning, I caught sight of a familiar face - it was Naomi, my best friend. A wide smile spread across my face as I pushed my way through the throngs of people.
"There you are!"
I yelled, my voice laced with delight.

I embraced Naomi tightly, overjoyed to see the woman I had been searching for.
"Oh my gosh, Naomi! I'm so glad I found you,"
I gushed. I stepped back, taking in her appearance.
"You look stunning,"
I remarked, a hint of mischief in my tone.
"I know you said he left you, but based on that glow, you should have left him years ago."

The festival lights now shone brightly, illuminating our faces. I looped my arm through hers, guiding her deeper into the crowd.
"Okay, first things first - what's it going to be? Apple cider, hot cocoa, or are we going all out and straight to drinking?"
I asked, my eyes twinkling with anticipation.

POV: Bryson Mckdowell

Location: Entering town/Auto Shop

..Bryson Mckdowell... found himself once again... traversing the winding roads, fatigue weighing heavily on his eyelids... despite the desperate need for rest tugging at him, he resolved to keep driving until the moon reached its summit in the night sky. He stifled a series of yawns, the subtle thump of music pulsing, serving as some sort of sound to keep him awake.. while the chill of the night air seeped in through the cracked window, invigorating him with each gust... Cups of coffee lined the passenger seat, remnants of his battle against drowsiness, as he hummed a tune, his gaze drifting to the enchanting snowy landscape outside... The world was blanketed in white, a sight that filled him with joy and a longing to hit the slopes soon..he loved the winter more than anything..!

Suddenly, a familiar, jarring sound broke through his reverie..a loud cranking noise that sent a shiver of dread down his spine... "Not now, come on," ..he muttered, glancing at the dashboard, which assured him he had plenty of gas... It was the engine again, a problem he thought he had resolved...

Frustration bubbled within him as he tightened his grip on the steering wheel, knowing he had no choice but to pull over. His eyes squinted against the light, catching sight of a sign in the distance that read "Revelstoke." Hope ignited within him as he steered his truck toward the town, the buildings ahead adorned with vibrant lights and festive wreaths, a dazzling display that momentarily overwhelmed his senses... though in the back of his mind; he knew he'd be taking a few pictures later, how could one resist?

As he continued down the road, he spotted an auto shop bustling with activity, a wave of relief washing over him as his truck emitted an even louder cranking sound. If he hadn’t seen this town, he would have surely been stranded on the roadside, and he had neither the time nor the tools for such a predicament..

Pulling up to the front of the shop, he turned off the engine and hopped out, slamming the door behind him. Stretching his limbs for the first time in hours...! As Bryson stood before the weathered sign, he took a moment to absorb its letters before pushing the door open, the tinkling of a small bell announcing his arrival. The air inside was thick with the unmistakable aroma of oil and grease, a scent that, while not entirely unpleasant, wrapped around him like a heavy fog, dulling his senses.. He paused for a heartbeat, allowing his eyes to roam the dimly lit interior, scanning the cluttered shelves and workbenches.. was anyone here..?

POV- Kennedy & Anthony
Location: Redfern AutoShop

It had been a long night, and Kennedy had once again forgotten to put up the "will be back in 15 minutes" sign before heading upstairs to her brother Anthony's apartment to grab a quick snack. After a long day of college classes, fatigue weighed heavily on her. She filled her hands with food and started back down the stairs when she heard the bell on the door.

Just a minute!” she shouted as she continued toward the main door. But upon spotting a gentleman in the workshop instead of the store, she let out a sigh of relief. "Anthony! Get down here! It's for you!" she called up the stairs before making her way toward the man in the shop.

Sorry about that,” she muttered, extending her hand in greeting. She quickly realized he wasn’t a local; she knew just about everyone in town. “I was hungry, and at this hour, he’s usually just about to close up the shop. Luckily, he lives upstairs,” she chuckled, the humor lightening the atmosphere.

It was half-true; while Anthony had converted the upstairs into a cozy apartment for late nights at the shop, his actual house was just around the bend. In her mind, it was a perfect setup for the busy life they both led, and she appreciated the convenience, even if it did lead to these little mix-ups.

Anthony had just walked down the stairs, catching the tail end of Kennedy's comment. He shook his head, a playful smile on his lips. "Hello! I don't believe we've met. I'm Anthony, and this is my little sister, Kennedy," he introduced himself, his voice warm and inviting. "What brings you into the shop today?"

As he spoke, he grabbed his hat off the hook and settled it on his head, the fabric covering his golden, dirty blonde hair streaked with hints of ash red. The hat seemed to add a touch of rugged charm to his appearance, and he looked every bit the part of the friendly shop owner.

Kennedy watched with amusement, feeling a sense of pride for her brother. She knew how much he loved interacting with customers, always eager to make them feel welcome. The atmosphere in the workshop was relaxed, and she could tell the stranger was intrigued by Anthony's easy demeanor.

POV: Bryson Mckdowell

Location: RedFern Auto Shop

Bryson's ears buzzed with the echo of a voice.. a woman's voice?

His curiosity piqued, he instinctively turned his head toward the source, realizing there was an upstairs in this establishment he hadn’t noticed.

A nervous chuckle escaped him, a hint of anxiety creeping in as he wondered if he had inadvertently interrupted something.. Was the place even open?... "Ah..please, don't apologize.." ..The uncertainty gnawed at him until his gaze fell upon a sign that read, "Back in 15 minutes!" He felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him; how had he missed that? "Sometimes I can be as blind as a bat," ..he muttered to himself, nearly inaudible.. another nervous laugh bubbling up.

As he noticed her hand extended in greeting, he took it gently, giving it a light shake.. "Hope I'm not intruding," he said, his voice laced with a mix of apology. She spoke of their impending closure, but her tone was light and inviting, which eased his tension considerably.

Just then, another voice..a male one..joined the conversation, and Bryson observed the two of them closely, noting their striking resemblance... Siblings, perhaps..?

A warm smile spread across his face as he introduced himself, "Bryson Mckdowell, and yeah- just stopping by, wasn't exactly on my agenda for the day, but here we are now.." Bryson chuckled lightly.. he glanced at the redhead, who he learned was Anthony's sister, so they were siblings! Anthony and Kennedy.

His eyes brightened as he explained the troubles with his truck, gesturing outside to where it sat, a sturdy but unremarkable vehicle that had belonged to his father... "It's had issues for a while, the engine has a bad habit of breaking down on me, but this is the first time in a while it's given me trouble," ..he admitted, a hint of pride in his voice despite the truck's flaws. "But if you’re closing up, I can always come back tomorrow... I’m sure I can find somewhere to stay," Bryson offered, not wanting to impose on their time, even though fixing cars was their job.

Auriela Hale

Aurie turned to them, her hazel-green eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief as the first delicate snowflakes began to drift down around them. She gave their hand a gentle, reassuring squeeze and said,
"You know, I was thinking...why don't we change things up this year?"

Her gaze grew a bit more contemplative as she continued,
"It's always just been me and dad for the holidays,but..."
She paused, chewing on her lower lip for a moment before meeting their eyes again. "
"What do you think about having both our families come together to celebrate? I just feel like it would be so nice to have everyone in one place, you know?"

Aurie glanced away, suddenly seeming a bit unsure of herself. "
"I don't mean it in a 'let everyone know we are together thing' way or anything like that. I just...I don't know, I'm just tired of the same would routine, and I think it would be really special to have everyone together."
She gave a slight shrug, the movement causing the snowflakes that had gathered on her shoulders to drift down in a gentle flurry.

Turning her attention back to them, Aurie's expression brightened into a mischievous grin. "
"Anyway, enough of that sentimental stuff. We've got to get you all dolled up and ready for the party, don't we?"
She bumped their shoulder playfully, her voice taking on a flirtatious lilt as they continued on towards the house.

POV - Roman Marshall
Roman felt a rush of warmth fill up within them as Auriela gently squeezed their hand, looking up at them with her shiny hazel-green eyes. Their bright blue eyes practically sparkled as Roman heard her idea. She wanted their families to meet? Roman froze up in shock hearing the idea, before they smiled widely, barely holding back tears. They weren't even sure why they were getting worked up over this. It was just such a nice thought. Having everyone they cared about come together for Christmas.

Roman stood there grinning like an idiot for a bit, the snowflakes piling up on their hair and shoulders, until Auriela's playful bump on their shoulder brought them back once again. As they looked at her, they admired how beautiful she looked in the snow. Seeing her mischievous smile and flirty look gave them another light feeling in their chest. How this woman was able to conjure up such an overwhelming abundance of warmth and affection from inside them would always be a mystery to Roman.

Roman simply giggled before they followed Auriela towards their house. It was the big yellow one with a white roof, the windows adorned in lights and a wreath hanging on the front door. Once they finally got there, walking up the pavement and up to the door, Roman pulled out their key from their pocket, inserting it into the lock as delicately as possible. As they do so, they turn to Auriela, speaking in a more hushed tone. "They're probably asleep right now, so we need to be quiet, alright? We'll just be in and out. Then we can head to the party."

POV - Eileen Harigold
Eileen continued to stand there with her hands in her pockets, her demeanor remaining casual as she let the girl go on. Occasionally she would take another glance at her, noting her fatigued state and inner annoyance at whatever she was thinking about. Eileen did feel a hint of sympathy for the girl beside her. She must've had it pretty rough. Eileen could only imagine what it'd be like to live in a family that barely even acknowledged each other. She and her Dad, while they'd been through pretty rough times, were still always there for each other no matter what. After all, they were all they had. They weren't gonna just abandon each other now.

When the girl then stated that she was gonna go to the party, Eileen raised an eyebrow at her. Wasn't she just saying that it wasn't her thing? Why go then? Besides, the girl looked like crap right now. She was clearly tired and sore from whatever she'd been up to. A party should have been the last thing on her mind. Eileen continued to give the girl a funny look as she stood there with the snow. "Why? If you don't wanna go you don't have to. Just stay home and chill if that's what you need."

Eileen's eyes wandered around the place as she watched other people going about their business. Walking around to either stores, diners, or their homes. This place did feel quite local. The residents all seemed to be quite closer to each other than she could say about her home city. Given that a lot of them seemed to know each other, and would greet them and presumably catch up on things.

TALISA SKY
Talisa was finally out of her little "wow this man is hot" trance as Lawson led her to the car, waiting to make sure her bags were safely in the trunk, "whoever said women don't need a man are crazy because those bags were way too heavy. Only reason I didn't call a cab was because I wanted to see all the decorations and grab a hot chocolate... At least one of those plans worked." She teased as he opened the door for her, and she couldn't help her blush as she climbed into the passenger seat.

"So besides being a copper and maybe still babysitting?" She quirked her eyebrow, the babysitting part clearly being a joke, "what do you do with your time now?" She was genuinely curious. She hadn't seen this man in years and last time she did he had all kinds of tales of doing regular young adult things. "Oh my god, how's Aurie?" she asked suddenly, leaning against the center console, her eyes trained on his face.

The slight gray in his beard and hair show just how many years its been since they'd last seen each other. And normally she didn't find it attractive but on him it looked good.
Her gaze flicked to the decorations outside the window, "It’s weird, isn’t it? How much things change? You think you know how things are gonna be, but then everything just… shifts." Her voice trailed off, and for a moment, she stared at her own reflection before shaking her head and sitting up straighter.

"So," she said, forcing a brightness back into her tone, "What else have I missed in town?"

The tow truck arrived quickly which was good because Sutton had turned her car off in fear of something worse happening; despite it being freezing outside. In fact, Sutton’s car heat barely worked. The AC was shot but the heating system had some juice left. That was why Sutton had a designated car blanket. The man pulled up and didn’t say anything, just started to attach the tow, she got out to go greet him but the first thing he said was asking if she wanted to ride in his truck or hers.

"Yours, for sure. My heater is on the fritz.”
She took a second to really look at the man. He was handsome, that’s for sure. She made sure to look for a wedding ring, but there wasn’t one. She couldn’t figure out why he wouldn’t look at her then. She cleared her throat, feeling a little awkward,
“Let me just grab my purse.”
She then walked to her truck and pulled out her purse, walking to get into the passenger side of his truck to get in.

RAVEN CROSS
Raven did her best to hide her excitement from Wren. She knew he'd be so happy about this surprise, especially for the holidays. And she could tell he was becoming suspicious until he finally figured out what was going on and who was hiding in plain site in the square. Clapping her hands together, a grin spread across her face as he and Belle ran toward each other, and she waited until they were seperated to join them, "and you say I can't keep a secret." Her tone was humble and she couldn't help but giggle as she gave Wren a little nudge.

"He's surprised, do you see this? Pure and utter surprise, god I'm a genius." She huffed and checked her phone. No demanding texts from Yaan just yet, but she knew the texts would be there soon, "come on, let's go get some snacks and maybe a hot chocolate or something before I get pulled away for more author dramatic." She nodded for them both to follow her, and she immediately beelined toward some of the food stalls. She was starving, since she hadn't really had the time to eat all day. "Oh my god I could fuck up a warm turkey sandwich." She hummed, practically licking her lips at all the options. They were holiday foods adapted to be food stall foods... And would could be better than that?

Raven’s eyes scanned the food stalls like a hawk zeroing in on its prey. The smells of roasted chestnuts, spiced cider, and freshly baked cookies filled the air, making her stomach growl audibly. She didn’t even try to hide it. Turning back to Wren and Belle, who were still riding the high of their reunion, she smirked, "Alright, you two, focus up. We’ve got priorities here," she said, gesturing grandly to the stalls ahead. "I’m on a mission for the perfect turkey sandwich, and you two are coming along for the ride."

Kennedy smiled as she returned her hand to her side. "Good thing for you that we’re still here, huh?" she joked playfully. "I would have been here anyway; the convenience shop is usually open 24 hours," she added with a shrug. "Unless I get tired, in which case, I could have woken him up regardless."

She pulled out a chair in the shop and settled down, eager to dig into her food. "
I’d mention the lodge, but it’s a bit far. For a flat fee of fifty, you can rent the apartment upstairs for the night. Our house is just around the bend, so we keep upstairs for long nights like this," she explained, her enthusiasm returning as she took a bite of her sandwich.

After the first taste, a satisfied grin spread across her face, and she couldn't help but do a little dance in her seat, clearly showing her approval of the meal. The simple pleasure of good food brought light to her spirit, and she relished the moment, feeling right at home in the cozy shop.

Anthony rolled his eyes at his sister but chose to stay silent about her casual mention of the apartment. "Let’s get the truck in and take a look," he said, stepping out the door toward it. He paused for a moment, glancing back at Kennedy. "Do you think it will restart, or should we just push it?"

As he spoke, he began putting on his work gloves, the familiar routine bringing a sense of focus to the task. The evening air was chilly, but he didn't mind; the warmth of the shop still lingered in his mind. He was ready to tackle whatever issue the truck had, determined to get it running again, even if it meant some physical effort.

POV: Manuel Barker

Location: Festival shops

..Manuel reclined on his couch, his limbs sprawled comfortably across the cushions while a Hallmark movie flickered on the screen, casting a soft glow in the dimly lit room... Though he typically wasn't one to indulge in movie marathons, the festive spirit of Christmas had a way of drawing him into the charm of these..cheesy films.

He absentmindedly ran his fingers through his tousled hair, his gaze shifting from the screen to his foster dog, Bear, who was curled up by the front door, his eyes fixed intently on Manuel. The dog had been unusually attentive these past few days, a change that coincided with Autumn's return to town. Manuel couldn't help but chuckle at Bear's unwavering devotion; it was as if the dog had developed a crush, and while he found it endearing, he also felt a twinge of exasperation at Bear's relentless attention.
With a resigned sigh, Manuel swung his legs over the edge of the couch, rubbing the tension from his neck as he muttered,
"Alright then... you win." A playful grin spread across his face as he stood up, stretching his arms wide, which prompted Bear to leap to his feet, tail wagging with infectious enthusiasm. The dog seemed to understand when they were leaving.. Manuel had him for almost 12 months now so it made sense.

He made his way to the front door, slipping into his coat and securing it snugly around his frame before attaching Bear's leash to his collar, giving the dog's fur a gentle ruffle. "Let's go, buddy," he said, opening the door to a rush of crisp, chilly air that nipped at his cheeks. He relished the cold, though he knew that as night approached, the temperature would plummet.. Autumn would be closing her shop soon, and with that thought in mind, he stepped out of his gated home and onto the streets of their cozy town. The walk was short, but Bear needed a few stops along the way to take care of business. Finally, they arrived in the bustling heart of town, and with the biting cold settling in, Manuel felt as if it'd be the perfect weather for a warm beverage.
As the vibrant festival buzzed around him, the streets were alive with a variety of shops, each one vying for attention amidst the festival.

Manuel strolled into a cozy dog-friendly cafe, Bear trotting alongside him, and emerged moments later, cradling two steaming cups of hot chocolate and a bag filled with delectable pastries.
He had briefly considered indulging in a treat for himself, but these were meant for Autumn.. "Yeah.. i know you want some bud.. we both do.." he said to Bear, feigning irritation with a theatrical sigh, "but they’re not for us."

With a playful glance at Bear, he continued down the street, taking in the twinkling lights and festive decorations adorning the shops, many of which were beginning to close for the evening... His gaze was drawn to a shop in the distance, "Moonlit Aura," a crystal shop where Autumn worked. The shop was beautifully adorned, and Manuel couldn’t help but admire its charm every time he visited, and every time it seemed to have a few more things added.

As he approached, he hesitated, knowing the delicate nature of the store and the potential chaos Bear could unleash... After a moment of contemplation, he decided to knock on the window, his face pressed against the glass, likely appearing a bit odd..creepy.. to passersby. But, he didn’t want to leave Bear tied to a lamppost, vulnerable and alone... Taking a sip of his hot chocolate, he felt the warmth spread through him, a comforting shield against the chilly air that nipped at his skin.

Bryson turned his gaze back to Kennedy as she spoke, nodding appreciatively at her words. "Definitely.. I honestly didn't expect anything to be open at this hour," he exhaled, a wave of relief washing over him, accompanied by a warm, grateful smile.
His expression shifted as he raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"Twenty-four hours, huh? Gee, some cities really need to step up their game. Back in some of the places I've been to, they close by nine, and that's on a good day," he chuckled softly..
"Again.. thank you both.. I really appreciate it. Just let me know what the cost is." Money had never been Bryson's strong suit; his travels often left him with little more than pocket change.. though he was sure he could scrape together just enough of his gas money to pay for any manditory costs.
"The lodge?" he inquired, intrigued by Kennedy's mention of it... "There's more to this town than I thought..!" He directed his question primarily at Kennedy, feeling as if she mightve been the more easy-going one, though he barely knew the either of them.. "If it comes to that, I might have to consider it. Usually, I just crash in my truck," he added with a light-hearted snicker.

Shifting his focus back to Anthony, he continued,
"It could be the spark plug or maybe the air filter.. that’s what happened last time." With that, he stepped outside and hopped back into his truck, turning the key in the ignition. The engine roared to life, with that same gutteral sound of stuttering..
Cautiously, he rolled the vehicle into the garage of the auto shop, parking it and stepping out with the keys in hand..
"Yeah-.. I’m sure you heard that. I've had this truck for about four years now, and my dad owned it before me. I don’t plan on getting a new one, but if this keeps up, I might have to," he said, crossing his arms and glancing around to ensure no smoke was billowing from the vehicle.

s Lawson settled into the driver’s seat of the truck, he glanced over at her, taking a moment to absorb her words.
"Yeah, sorry about that, got lost in my thoughts,"
he admitted, giving her a gentle nod. A soft chuckle escaped him as he added,
"I haven't babysat since you. It used to be something I did on the side while I was working my way up in the department, but now that I'm the head of it, my responsibilities have shifted dramatically. It seems like babysitting hooligans is all I do these days."

He shifted his focus to the road, navigating the snowy terrain while continuing to answer her questions.
"As for Auriela... she's quite the character, that kid. Always keeps me on my toes,"
he said, a fond smile spreading across his face.
"Right now, she's really into partying, which can be a handful. I’ve had to set some boundaries, but it’s all part of the job, I guess. I just want her to enjoy her youth while also being responsible."

The familiarity of their surroundings brought a sense of nostalgia, and he reflected briefly on how quickly time had passed.
"And, of course, it’s the same old routine here—the festival every year and all that,"
he continued, gesturing vaguely toward the snow-dusted trees lining the road. The annual celebration was a staple of their community, drawing people together in a way that felt comforting and traditional.

As the snow gently tapped against the truck, like the softest of punches, it created a tranquil atmosphere, almost as if nature itself was reminding them to slow down and enjoy the moment. He turned on the windshield wipers, clearing the view as they drove further up to the lodge. The cozy structure loomed ahead, its lights twinkling in the distance, promising warmth and camaraderie.

He paused for a moment, letting the peaceful ambiance wash over them.
"So, are you excited for the festival this year? I know Auriela is looking forward to it, and I think it’ll be great to see everyone celebrating together again."
His tone was enthusiastic, reflecting his own anticipation for the festivities to come.

"Woah Okay."

Kennedy turned in her chair to watch as they brought the truck in, her brow furrowing slightly at the sight. "That doesn't sound good at all, not at all," she chimed in, her voice laced with concern, even though she had no real understanding of cars. She offered a small, flirty smile, trying to lighten the mood despite the situation.

After a moment, she turned back to her food, eager to finish her meal. The comforting taste of her sandwich brought her back to the present, and she savored each bite, feeling content in the cozy atmosphere of the shop. As she chewed, she couldn’t help but glance back at them occasionally, curious about the state of the truck and how they would handle it. Despite the uncertainty, she felt a sense of warmth in being surrounded by family and the familiar chaos of their lives.

Anthony listened intently to the truck as it sputtered, a guttural sound echoing from the engine that indicated something was definitely wrong. A soft sigh escaped him; he knew he was in for a long night. Determined to tackle the problem head-on rather than just slapping a band-aid on it, he steeled himself for the task ahead.

"
Alrighty, open her up and turn her off for now... get yourself comfortable," he instructed with a nod, trying to keep the mood light despite the situation. He moved to the front of the truck and flipped on the overhead lights, illuminating the engine bay for a better view.

As he leaned in, examining the components with a focused gaze, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of responsibility wash over him. This was more than just fixing a vehicle; it was about ensuring that everything ran smoothly for everyone involved. He mentally prepared himself for the troubleshooting ahead, hoping to pinpoint the issue quickly so they could resolve it and get back to enjoying their evening.

etting out a huff of laughter, Wren shook his head as his satisfied sister walked towards him and Bell, a playful grin on her face. She was positively glowing, clearly pleased with herself as she revealed her role in the surprise. He'd known something was off with her lately, especially today, but he'd been so caught up in the chaos of the day that he hadn't taken the time to figure out what was going on.

"God, I can't believe you pulled this over on me,"
he said, his voice laced with amusement.
"I'll have to keep a closer eye on you, sis. You're getting sneakier by the day."
His words were teasing, and his eyes sparkled with mirth as he glanced between the two girls.

But before he could give the surprise another thought, Raven’s attention shifted to the food stalls ahead, the mouthwatering scent of freshly cooked treats wafting in the air. Wren’s stomach gave a quiet rumble as he realized that in the whirlwind of everything happening today, he hadn’t had a proper chance to eat.

Raven was already zooming ahead, her energy unmistakable as she zeroed in on the food. Wren chuckled softly and turned to Bell with a warm smile, offering her his arm.
“Come on, let’s catch up with her.”

As they walked toward the stalls, Wren took in the options laid out before them. The atmosphere was alive with chatter and laughter, the sounds of sizzling food filling the air. He couldn’t help but smile as he followed after Raven with an easy grin.

"A turkey sandwich sounds pretty good right about now,"
he mused, his gaze drifting over the various food stands.
"How about this—since you two worked so hard to pull off this awesome surprise for me, I’ll treat you both to whatever you want from the stalls. It’s the least I can do."

Before they could answer, he already had his wallet in hand, ready to make good on his promise. His eyes darted to a nearby stand where eggnog was being served.

Bryson let out a soft laugh at Kennedy's remark, his fingers instinctively massaging the back of his neck as he nodded in agreement... "Yeah.. but she's one heck of a fighter.. i'll tell ya' that." he replied, his gaze drifting to the sturdy frame of his truck, which he affectionately caressed as if it were a cherished companion...
The sight was amusing, yet it radiated a sense of genuine affection.. he's had it for all these years now, the vehicle was like family to him.

He turned to Anthony with a knowing nod, "You got it," and approached the front of his vehicle, lifting the hood with a satisfying click. Instantly, the pungent aroma of gasoline assaulted his senses, prompting a slight grimace to cross his face. "I've.. never smelt that before.. that's odd.." he murmured, waving a hand in front of his nose as he leaned in for a closer inspection.
Though he wasn't an expert, the unsettling scent hinted at trouble brewing beneath the surface... With a resigned sigh, he stepped back, relinquishing control to Anthony... "She's all yours, boss," he chuckled, tossing the keys into Anthony's waiting hand.

Afterward, he sank into a nearby couch, stretching his arms wide as he settled in. Despite being surrounded by unfamiliar faces, Bryson had a knack for feeling at ease in new environments, a skill honed from years of engaging with strangers.. taking in their stories.
He took a moment to absorb the cozy atmosphere of the shop, which was adorned in a manner reminiscent of some of the other buildings he had saw outside of this establishment.
A flicker of concern for his truck crossed his mind, but it was quickly overshadowed by a sense of reassurance; Anthony exuded confidence and competence.. surely he knew what he was doing.. right? He looked Brysons age, if not younger, but Bryson wasn't one to discriminate against such things.
As fatigue began to creep in, Bryson fought against the drowsiness that tugged at him, his head bobbing as he struggled to stay awake... The numerous cups of coffee he'd consumed earlier seemed to lose their potency in this warm, inviting town, and before he realized it, he succumbed to the pull of sleep, his arms crossed and his head gently nodding as he drifted off..

Roman held onto Auriela's hand as they lead her into their house, quietly closing the door behind them. Their smile never left their face as they escorted her through the halls and towards the staircase. They did their best to remain as quiet as possible, not wanting to disturb their mother and grandmother who were presumably asleep in their rooms. Roman walked with Auriela up the stairs and onto the landing of the second floor.

They looked at her with their soft smile while whispering, pointing towards the last door on the right side of the hall. "My room's right there at the end. You can go on ahead. I'll be right there." Once Roman had directed Auriela to their room, they quietly tiptoed towards the others, wanting to check on the family. They went to their mother's room, quietly peeking through the cracked door to see if she was awake. Sure enough, their mother was fast asleep in her bed, resting underneath her covers. Roman smiled to theirself as they saw their mom sleeping peacefully, before leaving her to get her rest. They then looked in their grandmother's room, seeing her asleep as well. Roman felt relief wash over them from the confirmed well-being of the other family members, glad that they weren't woken up by them coming home.

Afterwards, Roman let out a soft breath as they headed towards their room, they stepped in before closing the door. Their room was nice and tidy. The walls were painted over in a nice shade of green. Their bed facing the center was all made. They had their nightstand right beside their bed with their lamp and a picture frame with a family photo. They also had their bookshelf there beside the bed with all their alphabetized novels. On the other side of Roman's room was a large wooden wardrobe and their desk adorned in neatly organized crafting materials, such as paper, pencils, markers, scissors, etc.

Aurie nodded to herself as she made her way to their room, her footsteps light with anticipation. As she stepped inside, she was immediately struck by the remarkable neatness that enveloped the space. A soft chuckle escaped her lips; it was a refreshing sight compared to her own chaotic sanctuary, where clothes were strewn in piles on a chair and her makeup lay scattered across every available surface.

She had to admit, there was something inherently appealing about the orderliness of Roman's room. The crisp lines of the neatly made bed and the organized arrangement of items on the desk spoke of a calm and collected personality. Making herself comfortable, she perched on the edge of Roman's bed, crossing her legs in a relaxed manner as she took in the serene atmosphere surrounding her.

Just as she was beginning to settle into the moment, the door creaked open, and Roman stepped in. The sight of them brought an involuntary smile to her face, illuminating her features with warmth.
"You surprise me more and more,"
she remarked softly, her voice barely above a whisper. Even though Roman had already closed the door behind them, she felt a desire to keep the peace of the night and respect the slumbering household around them.

Her words hung in the air, filled with a blend of admiration and playful teasing. Aurie enjoyed these moments of quiet connection, where the world outside faded away and the two of them could share a slice of intimacy amidst the tranquility. The soft glow of the bedside lamp cast a gentle light, enveloping them in a cozy ambiance that felt just right for late-night conversations and shared laughter.
