Realistic or Modern Whispering Pines ᨒ↟ 𖠰 ~ Cozy Winter SOL ~ MAIN

POV- Auriela Hale
Aurie stepped out into the biting cold, feeling the chill seep through her skin as it hit her instantly. Even though she had grown accustomed to this wintry weather, she couldn’t help but feel a twinge of regret for choosing to wear a dress without any tights or leggings underneath. The brisk air was sharper than she had anticipated, and she instinctively pulled her luxurious white fur coat closer around her, trying to shield herself from the cold. A slight shiver ran through her, but she quickly brushed it off, determined to enjoy the evening.

With a playful glint in her eyes, she turned to her partner, Roman, and teased, "As if your attention wasn’t all mine earlier." Her giggle danced in the air, lighthearted and full of warmth despite the chill surrounding them.

As she spoke, Roman flashed her a smile that seemed to light up the dreary winter night. In that moment, Aurie felt her heart flutter faster, as if it were trying to keep pace with the warmth spreading through her. Their smile always had that effect on her, igniting a spark of joy that made the cold seem far less daunting.

Glancing around at the dimly lit streets, Aurie continued, "We have a couple of options. We could head back to your house to grab your clothes, or we could see if any shops are still open for some last-minute shopping. Or, if you prefer, we could skip all that and head straight to the party." She paused for a moment, gauging their reaction, her breath visible in the cold air.

As she awaited their decision, she shifted her weight from one foot to the other, trying to keep herself warm while still maintaining her playful demeanor. The excitement of the night ahead mingled with the crispness of the air, and with Roman's smile still lingering in her mind, she felt a flutter of anticipation for the decision they make.

Roman frowned a bit as they noticed Auriela's reaction to the cold, feeling a twinge of sympathy resonate within them. It really wasn't the best weather for the dress she was wearing. They put their arm around her before pulling her close, hoping to help warm her up a bit more and shield her from the cold. "Well. I would say we could stop by my place, but part of me feels like you were looking forward to dressing me up." Roman's blue eyes sparkle with the moonlight as they continue to smile down at Auriela. They had to admit, it was a little cute seeing her try to bundle up in her fur coat.

"There's a thrift shop not too far from here. It's just around the corner. We could look there, if you want." Roman points in the direction of where the store is at they speak. The street lamps and the lights from the other buildings brightening up the way for them. It was always more calm and peaceful during this time. Nothing but a few people strolling through the streets and engaging in the festivities.

Auriela couldn’t help but let out a soft squeal of delight as Roman pulled her close, wrapping around her in warmth against the biting chill of the evening air. The blush on her cheeks wasn’t merely a response to the cold this time; it radiated from something deeper, an excitement that coursed through her. As she looked up into their striking blue eyes, she felt a thrill run down her spine. Biting her lip gently, she pondered the best course of action, her thoughts racing.

“I think it might be quicker to swing by your place first,” she said thoughtfully, her voice barely above a whisper. “That way, I can still work with whatever you have in your closet. Plus, it feels a bit more cozy, doesn’t it?” She glanced around, aware that the sun was nearing its final descent, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple. “But we could also check if the thrift shop is open right now. I mean, we might get lucky,” she added, half-heartedly, as a sense of urgency crept in.

With the day winding down, she couldn’t shake the feeling that other places might be closing up early. She turned her gaze back to Roman, her expression softening as the usual flirtation that danced in her eyes faded into a genuine warmth. In this moment, surrounded by the fading light and the comforting embrace of Roman, she felt at ease.

Roman chuckled at the squeal Auriela let out. She was so cute. They thought to themselves for a second before they speak up again. "I mean, sure, we can stop by my place. I don't mind." They keep their arm wrapped around her as they begin to walk along the sidewalk, keeping Auriela close the whole time. It was nice to spend time with her. As much as they loved hanging out with everyone, something about Auriela made it feel different. Asides from the obvious, she had such a playfulness to her that made these exchanges feel so warm and cheeky. And it never failed to get Roman in that giddy and bashful state.

The colorful sky emits a soft and memorable feeling, putting the both of them at ease as they stroll through the town. Everything else seems to simply fade into the background as they keep their focus on the silly girl beside them. Roman continues to wear their soft and caring look as they walk with Auriela. "All my clothes are clean, but I'll admit, some are a little out-dated. So don't make fun of me, okay?"

As Auriela walked alongside Roman, their arm casually draped around her shoulders, she felt a warm blush creep onto her cheeks. So much for keeping their relationship a secret. In the distance, she thought she spotted her father engaged in conversation with someone, but she quickly shifted her gaze back to Roman, eager to catch a glimpse of them.

When she overheard a comment about their clothes being outdated, she couldn’t help but chuckle. “Oh, Romi,” she said softly, her voice light and playful, “your clothes are always a bit behind the times, but that’s just you, and it’s adorable.” A smile spread wider across her face as she spoke.

With their arm around her, the cold no longer bothered her; it was all she could focus on. The twinkling Christmas lights adorning the trees and lampposts, along with the few people wandering about, blurred into the background, making their moment together feel even more special.

Despite her parents urging her to perform her routine for the Olympic trials that had taken place earlier in the day, Molly Harding had other plans. It wasn't ready yet. And besides, she'd get another chance to show off for the judges sooner or later. She was only nineteen - she had plenty of time to perfect her routine. She had many years of ice skating ahead of her. So instead of going to the trials like her older siblings, she had spent most of the day on the ice, twirling and practicing move after move. Her feet were aching by the time she decided to call it quits, but it was definitely worth it.

Her muscles were sore too, and Molly could feel that as she tugged her jacket zipper up, shielding her from the cold. It was a hand-me-down from Marley, her older sister. Molly rarely got new clothes, and the worn clothes were baggy on her. But she still lived at home with her parents, as did Mikey, who got the whole basement to himself, so she couldn't complain about it too much. She was, of course, at the mercy of her parents, who mainly only cared about their golden child Marley. It irritated her to know that she was nothing more than second-best.

Her practice outfit might have looked a bit goofy, with a burgundy leotard and skirt over grey leggings, but Molly liked to practice with a skirt on, as her intricate dresses for her routines were flowy. It wasn't a perfect replica, but it helped her imagine herself performing in front of a crowd.

She pulled on her slip-on sneakers over white socks, tossing her skates in her duffle bag before grabbing her phone from within and putting it in her jacket pocket. The evening air hit her smack dab in the face, taking her breath away and sending a shiver through her body as she pushed the door to the rink open. So the temperature might have dropped just a tiny bit since she had gotten here this morning. She was totally unprepared for the weather, but oh well. Molly was headed home anyway. And as she started in the opposite direction of the rink, she couldn't help but spot an unfamiliar face gazing upon the dazzling lights of the town's Christmas display.

Now, normally, Molly would have just kept to herself and continued walking, but something in her compelled her to approach the stranger. "Beautiful, huh?" She shifted her bag onto her shoulder, following the girl's eyes over to where they were gazing. "They do these kinds of displays every year. I'm not too big on Christmas, but I've got to admit, the lights are pretty nice." And there they stood, just taking in the sights of the season. She hoped that she wasn't interrupting the girl's day by being there - and if she was, then she'd leave her alone. But she didn't seem like the type to shoo someone away. Molly hoped that she was right about that.

POV - Eileen Harigold
The cold winds of the winter evening blew past Eileen as she strolled around the town. She was just starting to become accustomed to Revelstoke. She was here on vacation with her dad, visiting family for the holidays. Eileen took in the sights as she walked along the sidewalk, dressed up warm in her puffy jacket and hat. Winter wasn't her favorite of the seasons, but she could appreciate it all the same. After all, the snow can be a pretty sight in it's own way. Not to mention she has plenty of memories of playing out in the snow as a kid, whether it be building snowmen, making snow angels, or having snowball fights with her friends.

As Eileen was strolling along, she stopped in her tracks as something caught her eye. Ahead of her was the town's big and bright Christmas display, all of the sparkling lights shining within the center. Eileen couldn't help but become intrigued as she goes over to have a closer look at the display, standing before it. She had to admit, it was all quite pretty. It gave her a sense of nostalgia too, as she thought back to when she and her parents would decorate the house when she was little. The memories of being together with her mom and dad as she helped them put up all the decorations. When her mother would lift her up so she could put the star on top of the tree. It all resonated something within Eileen. Something she couldn't quite describe. Almost like a mix between sadness, but also...warmth.

As Eileen was standing there lost in thought, the sudden voice she heard beside her caused her to snap out of it with a jolt, before she looked over with a startled look. There she saw another girl, dressed in baggy clothing and slinging a duffel bag across her shoulder. Eileen couldn't help but notice how worn out the girl looked, almost as if she was working all day or something. Eileen took a moment to study the girl, taking in her appearance before turning her head back towards the big display in front of them as she spoke up. "Yeah. They don't really do this back at home. I mean, they have events there, but it's more just like parties and stuff. This feels more...in the spirit, I guess."

Roman continued to walk with Auriela wrapped in their arm. A small tinge of pink, dusting along their cheeks. They knew how this would look to other people seeing them, but it didn't matter. So long as she was protected from the harsh cold until they were inside, it was worth being figured out. After all, it's not like they were opposed to having her close to them. Roman didn't even notice Auriela's father as they were walking. They simply chuckled along with her as their banter continued. "I don't know. I'm not all that trendy but I sure don't wanna feel like an old person in my twenties."

Roman spoke in a joking tone as they smiled. The festive decorations all around enhanced the magical moment the two of them were sharing. It was like being in their own winter wonderland. It felt as though the two of them were strolling through a fairy tale together. A bit corny maybe, but to Roman, it was very heartwarming. Auriela's sense of adventure was always something that they admired about her. So they were glad to be engaging in that with her.

She gave their hand a gentle squeeze, clasping their hand while they still had their arm around her as she leaned her head against it while they walked.

The chill in the air had completely faded from her mind and body. Anyone might think it was strange, but when she was with Roman, the outside world seemed to vanish. She pondered, perhaps it was true that she subconsciously gravitated toward them whenever she saw them talking to others she perceived as a threat. Roman was the only one who saw her for who she truly was, without trying to change her. She didn't want to lose that connection, whether as friends or something more. She simply felt content being by their side.

Roman laughed along with Auriela as they continued to walk and talk. The cold night air becoming irrelevant to the both of them as they remained close to each other. Roman couldn't help but feel flattered by Auriela's complements. They always knew that she was the better dresser of the two of them. So her reassuring words were very much appreciated. "You sure have a way with words, Aurie. But, thank you. At least you accept the way I dress."

Roman felt a fluttering in their chest as Auriela gently grasped their hand and leaned against it. Her soft touch bringing a comforting feeling as they gently cupped her cheek. Roman could feel that giddiness rise within them from all of this affection. The world around them went on about its business as the two of them continued their playful exchange. Meanwhile, they neared the street where Roman's house was, just around the corner.

e watched, an incredulous expression on his face as she stamped her foot in defiance, then took a step closer to meet him with that fiery glare. For a moment, he almost stepped back, thrown off by her stubbornness, but he managed to stand his ground. Despite how exposed he felt—only a towel between him and the world—there was no way he was backing down from this. He wasn’t about to let her take over his room.

“Oh, yes, I’m sure the date where I was the one being terrorized the entire time was so bad for you,”
he said, his tone dripping with condescension. His eyes rolled as he glanced at her, unable to hide the frustration building up inside.

“I’m the one who can’t believe anyone would ever set me up with such a disaster magnet,”
he added, his voice thick with sarcasm.

He turned away, walking toward the door, his hand already on the handle. He swung it open and gestured with his head for her to leave, completely dismissing her from the situation. "If your key works, that’s a whole other problem for the front desk to figure out, but I’m not about to start a debate about whose key is more legit right now. I was here first. Get out."

The whole situation was ridiculous, but it wasn’t like he was trying to make things worse. Maybe he should’ve been more patient, but right now, all he could think about was getting some peace and quiet.

Aurie strolled beside them, a gentle smile gracing her lips as a warm sense of happiness surrounded her like a comforting embrace. The sun had set even further now, giving way to a darker, deeper purple sky that hinted at the coming night. Christmas decorations adorned the lamp posts, twinkling with cheerful lights that cast a soft glow along the path and created a serene atmosphere. "I try," she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. The sincerity in her tone was genuine; she had always made it a point to choose her words carefully, as if each one held the power to shape the moment.

"Romi," she added, glancing sideways with a playful glint in her eye. "Of course, there are some combinations I wouldn't dream of pairing together, but you… you have this incredible ability to pull off anything with such confidence and flair." With that, Aurie averted her gaze, focusing straight ahead as the rhythm of their footsteps synchronized.

As they walked on, the familiar sight of houses began to materialize in the distance, each one telling its own story. Winter decorations adorned the yards, with twinkling lights and festive ornaments creating a magical atmosphere. The chill in the air was invigorating, but it only added to the warmth blooming in her heart. "Do you think it was fun butting heads? Or tasting the most disgusting wine I've ever had? And to top it all off, being grabbed by a stranger and then having them run off with me?!" Her voice grew louder as the memory surged back, her body shivering in response to how much she despised that day.

"And before I ever met you," she emphasized the word "ever" with a biting tone, making it clear just how much disdain she felt for him in that moment, "I never had so many accidents happen in my life. But after meeting you? Oh my lord, it’s like you’re a curse, dragging down everyone around you." As soon as the words escaped her lips, she realized how harsh they sounded. "Désolée," she said, trying to mask her frustration.

"Why should I leave? Both keys work, and I’m far too tired to go back down." Taking a moment to catch her breath, she felt the weariness from the flight settling in. "I just want to surprise my best friend... why on earth?" she murmured, more to herself than to Jupiter. Despite her desire to escape the situation and avoid him, she remained stubborn, unwilling to back down easily.

Roman took note of Auriela's tone as they continued down the sidewalk. Noticing how genuine it sounded. They could feel their heart practically beating out of their chest. Why was she being so cute?! And that along with her blush? It took everything within them not to just melt right then and there. Roman loved the fact that Auriela chose to be herself around them. It made them feel like they were very special to her. And it created such a warm feeling.

Roman started to grow sheepish, hoping she couldn't see the hearts in their eyes practically, as they chuckled and tried to keep their demeanor more casual. Though it was quite difficult with all these complements she kept giving them. They only added on to their bashfulness. "Aheh. Thanks, Aurie. I'm glad you think so."

As they neared Roman's house, Roman actually took a moment to look around at the environment. All of the beautiful decorations lighting up the path, shining in the darkened sky. It made Roman remember why they loved this time of year so much. It was a time for everyone to find the joy in coming together to take part in festivities. A time to appreciate the little things in life. And more, for that matter. Roman didn't realize that they wrapped their arm a little tighter around Auriela, not wanting to let go of someone they really cared for.

roaning, Jupiter threw his head back, his eyes squeezing shut as he struggled to keep his anger in check. His hands balled into fists at his sides, and for a moment, it seemed as if the whole room was charged with tension.

"Oh, I'm so, so sorry that your wine was nasty,"
he spat sarcastically, his voice thick with irritation.
"I was too busy reeling from the fact that you immediately spit it all over me!"
He ran a hand down his face, his hand stopped over his mouth, the only way he could silence the biting retort that threatened to spill out next. He wasn’t about to continue this fight while he was still in a towel.

"You—"
Just as he was about to speak again, an elderly couple passed by in the hallway, casting disapproving glances at him standing in the doorway, barely covered by a towel. Jupiter froze, his gaze hardening. He quickly slammed the door shut, the sound of it cutting off whatever was left of his patience.

He turned back to face her, his jaw clenched as he surveyed her expression—exhausted, frustrated, and just as annoyed as he felt. The tension between them was almost palpable, but at least he wasn’t the only one drained from the long travel.

Sighing heavily, he finally walked around her, muttering under his breath as he bent down to grab his suitcase that was still lying on the floor beside the bed. Rolling it toward the bathroom, he glanced back one last time to make sure she understood.

"Look, I’m not going to keep doing this with you when I’m not even dressed,"
he said, his voice quieter now but still firm.
"As soon as I get some clothes on, you’ve got to get out."
Without waiting for a reply, he slammed the bathroom door behind him, leaning against it once it was shut. He let out a long, frustrated sigh. He was done for now, and hopefully when he came out she'd be gone.

POV- Auriela Hale
POV - Roman Marshall

Auriela felt their arm tighten around her, sending a warm flutter through her chest. Her eyes widened in surprise as she turned her head slightly to gaze up at them. She was momentarily captivated by the depth of their blue eyes, which sparkled with happiness, reflecting the beauty of the world around them. Those eyes, vibrant and full of life, made her heart race, and she felt a lump form in her throat, as if words were caught in a gentle trap.

"Of course," she managed to whisper, her voice barely audible, almost lost in the crisp air. As she took in the moment, she noticed how Roman seemed to pause, their posture shifting as they fully embraced the scenery before them. It was as if every detail—the delicate dance of leaves in the breeze, the soft hues of the sunset—demanded their attention, and she found this appreciation utterly adorable.
She could sense the appreciation they both shared for this moment, a silent connection that deepened with each passing second.

Feeling emboldened by their closeness, she relaxed into their touch, allowing herself to savor the warmth they shared. With a newfound confidence, she raised her voice slightly, breaking the soft hush that surrounded them. "It's almost Christmas... What are your plans for the holiday this year?" The question hung in the air, filled with warmth and anticipation, reflecting the joy she felt in their company.

Exhausted, not just from the flight but from the recent events, Belle decided she was done. To her, this wasn't a defeat - he simply wasn't in the room for her to stand her ground. Grabbing her suitcase, she slid out of the room, not even bothering to check if the door closed fully behind her.

As she walked out, her gaze fell upon the key card in her hand. Glancing up, she noticed the room numbers on the wall across from her - her actual room. Her brain now tried to wrap its head around how she had ended up in the wrong room. Shaking her head, she made her way to the correct door and slid the key card, entering quietly. O
nce inside, Belle took a deep breath and looked around, a smile spreading across her face. She had a plan to surprise her best friend.

The wind had begun to die down just briefly. Molly was grateful for that - she could deal with the cold, but the wind, on the other hand...yeah, that was a totally different story. No matter how much time had passed since she had originally moved here as an infant, she still couldn't handle the wind. It felt like it seeped through her bones, chilling her to her very core. Maybe she was just defective or something. She was certain her parents thought so. But what did they know, anyway? They probably didn't even know her favorite color, let alone her distaste of windy days. Honestly, if she and Mikey decided to join forces and leave the toxicity of their household, Molly figured that they wouldn't even care. As long as Marley didn't stop sucking up to them, they'd ignore the 'lesser' kids.

It was their loss. She had given up on trying to please her parents a long time ago. She skated for herself now.

Molly snapped out of her trance when the girl beside her seemed to jump at the sound of another voice. She had definitely startled her. Now she felt bad. She hadn't meant to in the first place, and now, here she was, scaring people. Was it the way that she looked? She was bare-faced, and her long blonde hair, pulled back into a ponytail, was starting to come undone. The bags under her eyes surely must have scared her off as well. But before she had the chance to profusely apologize, as was in her nature, the girl spoke up. Molly tore her eyes away from the display to focus on her as she listened. She was trying to be a better listener these days after it was pointed out to her. So this girl was a visitor. Visitors typically only came towards the latter end of the calendar year, staying for a white Christmas before going back to their dull, repetitive lives somewhere else. Molly didn't mind, though. She rarely spoke to them, and before she would realize it, they were all on their way home.

"That's a shame. We're, like, the Christmas capital here." She grinned at her joke. "Sorry for startling you, by the way. Normally I just walk by a stranger, but I decided, what the hell, you know?" She slid her hands into her jacket pockets, trying to get some warmth back. "Are you going to be here long? Revelstoke's wonderful this time of year." And it really was. Snow fell nearly every day, and with all the twinkling lights and Christmas festivities everywhere, it was as if the town had stepped into one of those generic Hallmark movies. "I heard that they're going to have some sort of party at the lodge tonight, if you're into that kind of thing. I'm really not, but..." Molly trailed off, shrugging her shoulders to fill in the silence. She hadn't planned on going out of her way to go to the party. Besides, she wanted to go home and take a hot bath. She'd need it after being at the rink all day.

"this is a dialogue."

Even though Belle was utterly exhausted from the long and demanding day she had just endured, she knew she simply had to muster up the energy to get herself ready. After carefully crafting and sending a few carefully worded messages back and forth with Wren, effectively convincing him that she was still in New York City for the high-profile event she had been attending, she turned her attention to preparing herself for the evening ahead.

Once she had changed out of her comfortable, yet slightly rumpled, daytime attire and into her meticulously selected new outfit - a cozy white Christmas sweater adorned with delicate cherry motifs and a vibrant red skirt that flowed gracefully around her slender frame - Belle paused to take a deep, steadying breath and scrutinize her reflection in the mirror. Whenever she found herself in the presence of both Wren and Raven, she couldn't help but feel a surge of giddy anticipation. It was as if seeing those two dear friends was akin to being reunited with a cherished piece of her heart that had been missing.

With a renewed sense of purpose, Belle made her way through the bustling streets towards the dazzling Festival of Lights. As she passed by Jupiter's room, which was situated directly across from her own, she couldn't resist the urge to roll her eyes at the mere thought of her eccentric neighbor. When she finally reached the vibrant festival grounds, Belle momentarily questioned the wisdom of her decision to walk, as the distance had left her feeling slightly winded. However, any lingering fatigue was quickly forgotten as she caught sight of Raven, and to her delight, Wren had his back turned, unaware of her arrival. Giving Raven a playful little wave, Belle positioned herself near a towering flag post that was elegantly entwined with a captivating display of multicolored Christmas lights, crafted in a whimsical candy cane pattern that seemed to dance and shimmer in the evening breeze.

TALISA SKY
Tali, was quite literally, too stunned to speak. The mention of her being grown was a little embarrassing, since he'd probably last seen her when she was the height of a gnome. He was probably just graduated or near graduating from high school, so the comparison kind of made her feel old. Though, probably not as old as he felt seeing her. "O-Oh thank you..." She stuttered, the blush refusing to leave her face as he placed the jacket over her shoulders. It smelt amazing... Well, probably like any man smelt... But it's not like she went around smelling men.

"I uh... Just got to town?" She didn't mean for her statement to come out as a question, but it did and that was even more embarrassing. God, it's like she didn't know how to talk to people with the way this conversation was going. Clearing her throat, she straightened her spine and smiled, "I came for the holidays. And to visit my sister. She moved here not too long ago. Which is funny because of how often my dad brought me here." She rambled a little bit but played it off with a shrug.

The girls eyes roved over Lawson's uniform, and it finally dawned on her, "oh you're a cop now?" She asked, her eyebrow lifting ever so slightly. But again, the chill ran through her and she hugged his jacket tighter around her, "well since you spilled my hot chocolate on me, do you want to bring my luggage up to the Lodge?" So many questions, but she just hoped he would accept so she didn't have to do it now that she was cold, covered in hot chocolate, and slightly miserable.

RAVEN CROSS
Raven was having a busy day. Between running around town like a chicken with her head cut off to meet the author demands, she'd been having to distract Wren from the fact that Belle was coming to town. It was a maticulously planned out reunion between the two, and Raven, despite her foggy work brain, had nailed that shit. Wren had offered to take her to his place to grab a quill and ink, which had lined up perfectly for Belle's plane to land and then the "thrones" the authors children demanded needed to be moved from the daycare in town, to her car. Which also happened to be perfectly placed near the festival where Belle would surprise him.

As Wren lifted the other chair into the back of her messy mini van (more for transporting goods for the events than for style), Raven spotted the red head near a flag post and she had to contain her excitement. She gave Belle a thumbs up, "shit Wren, I need some card stock paper from the stationary store, can you go grab some for me?" She asked, pointing toward the store across the square from them, which happened to be behind where Belle was standing, "it's really important to place it behind the signing page so the ink doesn't leak through the first page." She was probably over explaining...

One thing about Raven, she was TERRIBLE at keeping secrets. She rambled when she felt pressured or guilty of anything. So, she was completely surprised that she was able to keep Belle's visit a secret from Wren for this long. "Oh shit is that a Raven?" She whistled and quickly hustled to the side door of her van to be more discreet about being nosy of the Belle Wren reunion.

POV - Eileen Harigold
Eileen casually stood there, still taking in the festive display while listening to the other girl speak. She didn't actually mind having someone to talk to. Ever since she got here with her dad, she wasn't exactly being very social. And of course, being in a new place filled with new people meant having to make new friends. Not that Eileen had trouble meeting or talking with new people. She just hadn't really thought about it too much. She was supposed to be engaging with her aunt and her family, and when she wasn't doing that she was going around exploring Revelstoke in its glory.

As the other girl mentioned a party at the lodge, Eileen glanced back over to her, a bit surprised by her bringing it up like that. She wasn't much of a party girl herself. Sure, she'd been invited to a few by her friends back at home. And she'd been out to a club or two. But she wasn't one to go out of her way to take part in those kinds of things. Especially if they're the types of parties where people are getting drunk, trashing things, or looking to hookup. Not Eileen's style.

Eileen fixed her hair under her hat as she looked off to the side, speaking up again in her casual, nonchalant tone. "The lodge, huh? Well that's actually where I'm staying. Me and my dad. We booked our rooms for the month while we're here visiting family." Eileen put her hands in the pockets of her jacket as she turned towards the girl again, continuing the conversation. "But, uh, I don't know. Parties aren't really my thing either. They're pretty overwhelming."

Wren Cross

W
ren let out a quiet sigh as he ran a hand through his hair, trying to shake off the exhaustion from the day. It had been one thing after another—covering for a coworker who’d called in sick, rushing groceries over to his grandparents, and then picking up Raven to get her a quill and some ink that one of her clients had randomly requested, along with a set of "thrones" for his kids. He didn’t mind the errands, but it had been a long, chaotic day.

As he pushed the last "throne" into Raven's car, he tried to let the weight of it all go, focusing instead on making sure she had everything she needed for her projects. Despite his quiet nature, he was always there for her, always making sure she had the support she needed. He’d do it a thousand times over without a second thought.

But as they worked, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was a little... off. Raven was acting strange, almost like she was trying to hide something from him, and that instinct of his was starting to kick in. He shot her a sidelong glance but decided to let it rest for now, since she was in a rush.

"Card stock paper, coming right up."
As she quickly moved around him, back toward her car’s door, Wren turned to head up the familiar path to the stationary store. But then he froze in his spot, his gaze falling upon an impossible sight.

Belle—standing near the flag post with that familiar smile on her face. But she was supposed to be at... Oh. Oh, they were good. His legs moved before his brain could catch up, and in an instant, he was across the square, his stride quickening as he closed the distance between them.

"Belle!"
His smile widened, and without missing a beat, he reached her in seconds, lifting her into the air and spinning her around with a laugh. It felt like the world slowed down for just a second—his heart full, the weight of the day completely forgotten. When he finally set her down, he looked at her, still grinning from ear to ear.

"I didn’t think I’d get to see you!"
he said, his voice full of warmth, the quiet joy of the reunion evident in his eyes.

Belle's eyes lit up with pure delight the moment she laid eyes on Wren. He had figured out her plan to surprise him, and a giddy giggle escaped her lips, not even having time to meet him halfway before he was already striding towards her, a wide grin plastered on his face. Without a moment's hesitation, he swept her up into his strong arms, lifting her off the ground and spinning her around in a joyous twirl. As he spun her, snow flew up from the soles of her boots, sparkling like tiny diamonds in the crisp winter air.

"SURPRISE!"
she managed to get out between bursts of delighted laughter and tight, affectionate hugs. Her arms wrapped around his neck, holding him close as he continued to spin her, the world around them blurring into a swirl of white and color.

Once her feet finally touched back down on the ground, she smoothed a hand over her skirt, brushing away any lingering snowflakes.
"I know that was the plan,"
she said, her eyes sparkling as she glanced behind Wren to where Raven stood, giving her two enthusiastic thumbs up and blowing exaggerated air kisses, mouthing
"Thank You"
all in one grand, theatrical gesture.

"I couldn't miss seeing you for Christmas, so I changed a bunch of things around and asked Raven to help me surprise you..."
Belle continued, a soft chuckle escaping her lips.
"She did an amazing job, by the way. I thought you'd have known by now."
The radiant smile never once left her face, her joy and excitement palpable.
"Lord, I missed you guys and this town...and Grandma!"
she exclaimed, her arm looping through Wren's as she led him back towards the waiting car, the snow crunching beneath their feet.

POV - Roman Marshall
Roman remained caught up in the moment as they walked down the street, towards their house. Their spirits were lifted by the thoughts they were having about the holidays, as well as being surrounded by the Christmas cheer. Auriela's voice then brought them back before Roman then looked down at her. They heard her question before they paused. What were they going to do for Christmas? It was pretty much the same thing every year.

Roman, of course, was always taking part in all of thee festivals and gatherings that the town hosted during the holidays. They were the ones who helped set up the Festival of Lights. And on Christmas day, Roman was usually with their mother and grandmother. They were the only family that each other really had. Roman frowned as they thought about that. All their life it was just them. Their father? Never knew him. Because that jerk walked out on their mother when she told him that she was pregnant, going so far as to skip town and never return.

Roman sighed to themself. They were always trying to be there and support their mom. She worked herself into the floor just for them. Roman then brings their attention back to Auriela before smiling sadly, speaking up in a more soft tone. "Just...being with my family. It's this time of year where we can all have a break, you know? Honestly, it doesn't matter what we do. As long as we get to spend time together, I'm happy."

Aurie turned to them, her hazel-green eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief as the first delicate snowflakes began to drift down around them. She gave their hand a gentle, reassuring squeeze and said,
"You know, I was thinking...why don't we change things up this year?"

Her gaze grew a bit more contemplative as she continued,
"It's always just been me and dad for the holidays,but..."
She paused, chewing on her lower lip for a moment before meeting their eyes again. "
"What do you think about having both our families come together to celebrate? I just feel like it would be so nice to have everyone in one place, you know?"

Aurie glanced away, suddenly seeming a bit unsure of herself. "
"I don't mean it in a 'let everyone know we are together thing' way or anything like that. I just...I don't know, I'm just tired of the same would routine, and I think it would be really special to have everyone together."
She gave a slight shrug, the movement causing the snowflakes that had gathered on her shoulders to drift down in a gentle flurry.

Turning her attention back to them, Aurie's expression brightened into a mischievous grin. "
"Anyway, enough of that sentimental stuff. We've got to get you all dolled up and ready for the party, don't we?"
She bumped their shoulder playfully, her voice taking on a flirtatious lilt as they continued on towards the house.
