When It Happens

In the beginning, it's just a normal lock down drill on a usual day of school. Then, it becomes so much more. It's definitely not a drill when the teacher sees a student desperately pounding on the door to his classroom, her flesh slowly melting off her body until she's a simple skeleton. A mist is surrounding her, it's floating in the entire hallway in fact. The mist does not seem to be seeping through the door, however, for it is very thick and cannot pass through. The mist is outside the windows as well. So, the teacher and the students are basically trapped in the classroom. Until one of the students finds a trapdoor leading down into the basement. There's no telling what the students will find down there, but they jump. They're in for quite a ride.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mika tapped her pencil against the desk as the teacher droned on and on about Shakespeare. She wasn't interested in it, at all. Instead, she couldn't wait to get to music class. Now that would be fun! As a bonus, the teacher was pretty nice. She smiled as she imagined preforming with the others and seeing her friends. They always had fun together in that class.

"Mika!" She straightened in her chair, nervous and startled under Mr. Stewart's harsh gaze. "What is the symbolism of-?" His question was thankfully cut off by the shrill ringing of the bell. Mika slumped back into her seat, happy to have been saved by the bell. It wasn't the bell that announced the end of class, however; English was only 10 minutes in. It was another kind of bell, a warning. The students stayed sitting in their chairs, the bell stopping after just a few seconds. A student or two did get up stupidly, only to sit back down in embarrassment as some laughter rippled through the classroom.

"Attention: A lock down drill is now in progress." There was a slight crackle over the speakers. "A lock down drill is now in progress. Teachers, please act accordingly."

"You heard the announcement guys. Get into the corner." Mr. Stewart watched as everybody scuttled over to the corner, away from the door and windows. Mika followed suit, frowning in annoyance as a kid was pushed into her. Even in their Senior year boys were messing around. When would they grow up? She took a seat next to a nerd, hoping she'd be safe from any annoyance there.

"Hey, quiet down. It's a lock down drill," Mr. Stewart angrily hissed to two teens who were laughing. Suddenly, a pounding was heard on the door. A few of the girls pretending to be freaked out, and the teacher shushed them. "It's just the people who check," he hissed angrily. His expression turned unsure when the pounding continued. Was something going on?

David sat in his chair and tried to keep up with the lesson. However, Shakespeare was always complicated to understand and sometimes it can get real boring. He'd be sitting right behind Mika, as he'd notice her daydreaming into space. He chuckled quietly as it was funny to watch someone not paying attention at all. In fact, most of the people don't even care about the class at all. There was one particular kid across the room, who wouldn't stop talking and flirting with the nearby girls sitting next to him, while others were trying to sleep through the class by hiding behind their textbooks.

David sighed as he wished that the day would end already. Though his prayers would be answered thankfully when the bell would suddenly ring. That was odd, however, when he checked the school clock hung across the wall. Class just started. He'd soon realize it was one of those lock down or fire drill sessions. Even though it would cut down some of the class time, the class would obviously have to continue once the drill ended.

Great. Another one of these stupid drills. Why couldn't they do it at the end of class or something? He thought in frustration, before he'd do what Mr. Stewart had instructed the class to do. One of his classmates would bump into him. It was the guy that kept flirting with the girls. "Hey, how about you watch where you going, doofus?" He said with a smirk before he'd return to his flirting ways. David wouldn't say anything, as he'd sigh and stand right next to Mika. He never really thought much about her, except that she keeps to herself at times and doesn't talk much. At least that was the impression he was getting.

"... Saved by the bell. I saw you spacing out." David whispered to Mika, as he was making a point. If it weren't for the bell ringing, the teacher would surely put Mika on the spot and Mr. Stewart would probably make a mockery out of her for not paying attention. Well, no one else is really paying attention anyway, so it didn't seem to matter.

David jumped at the sound of the pounding from outside the classroom. Though, he didn't think too much of it, as it was probably some other senior guys that were making a fool of this drill. Though, his brows would be raised still when the pounding continued and it didn't seem to stop anytime soon. David wanted to get a closer look, but Mr. Stewart would probably yell at him if he did. What was going on exactly?

Mika jumped slightly, startled by someone whispering to her. She turned her head to get a look and noticed some boy standing next to her. "It wasn't like nobody else was spacing out," she whispered back. Mr. Stewart looked at her harshly, making her quickly look down at the floor. Saved by the bell indeed. Stewart was a pretty strict teacher. She would have gotten sent to the principal's office because it would have been obvious that she had been paying zero attention in class. Like always. It wasn't like English class required attention for a good grade, however. She simply read the books Stewart assigned and got along just fine. He still seemed to dislike her nonetheless.

The sound of pounding sent an eerie shiver down her spine. Her mind rewound to the memories of the lock down drills she had been through in the past. All different, of course, for moving around a lot caused her to have to attend several different schools. As a result, she was none the wiser about this. However, the pounding continued. They wouldn't do that, would they? They'd move on to the next door after a couple seconds. This didn't seem right.

It had been a full minute now. All the students seemed to be holding their breath as they looked at their teacher. Some were simply worried, others didn't care, but there were indeed students who sniffled softly. That meant that some were actually crying. "Sir, it's... it's not an actual lock down, is it?" One of the girls whimpered, her makeup slowly streaming down her face from tears.

Mr. Stewart gave that girl a very weird look. "Of course not," he said, "A lock down drill was scheduled for today. I'll go check it out. Guys, stay here. Understood? No panicking." He slowly went to the door, some of the students staring after him as if really worried. Most looked curious, others mumbled to their friends about this being like a scene from a horror movie. "Everything is silent and then BAM! He gets shot," one guy said in a creepy voice. He was really scaring the others.

She herself was shaking so badly that her knees almost buckled. A lock down at the beginning of class? It seemed too weird to be true. Had a lock down really been scheduled to arrive 10 minutes in to a class? That was quite messy, wasn't it? It made her all the more afraid. How she wished she were in music class right now! Her friends would really have helped her remain calm.

"Oh my God." Stewart stood right in front of the door, his eyes so wide there was more white than pupil or iris. He was frozen, not moving an inch. "I bet it's a practical joke!" One guy nervously went towards the door. "Holy-!" His exclamation made the others huddle up around their teacher. Mika went with them on unsteady feet. There was a girl there, desperately pounding on the door. Her flesh was slowly melting off of her body.

David smirked as the girl beside her admitted that she wasn't paying attention. Though, he's not one to talk as he himself didn't care much about English. His grades weren't bad but they weren't great either, as he's just about average. If there was any subject that he excelled at, it'd be probably Physical Education. However, he wasn't like those asshole jocks, preferring to not be involved with them. Especially like the one guy in class who wouldn't stop flirting with the other girls, even through this lock down drill. "Well, these kind of things shouldn't take long. Should over soon." He whispered back to Mika in a sigh. Though, as he'd look around his other peers, Mika included, he'd find it interesting on the different reactions he was witnessing.

Though, as he'd eye the classroom door, he could still hear the endless pounding from the outside. David was slightly confused by that, as the sounds should have died out about a minute ago yet it was still going. He wanted to take a peek himself but knowing Mr. Stewart, he'd probably send him to the principal's office too. The guy seriously will send students there over the smallest of things, which made him a very unlikeable teacher among the student body.

One girl would indeed be quite shaken by the pounding, as she'd start to cry quietly to herself. She'd be trying to hide this fact from everyone, but one guy would notice it and make fun of her for crying, "Hey, look everyone, we got a crybaaaaaby here~" He said, as he pointed and laugh at the girl rather harshly. Like a hyena laughing at its prey. The girl crying didn't take too kindly to this, as she'd respond, "Shut the fuck up! Just leave me alone!" She said, as she proceeded to try and get away from everyone. Some would join in the laughter, some would shake their heads in disappointment. David rolled his eyes and simply just observed his surroundings.

As Mr. Stewart was going to investigate the matter himself, he'd notice how the girl beside her seemed a bit shaken from the whole thing. Pausing for a moment, he'd try to calm her down. "Hey.. you gonna be alright? I'm sure things will be alright at the end. So, uhh.. just hang in there?" Was all David could say to Mika, as he himself seemed a bit shaken. It was briefly noticeable from the way he was talking, as part of his words were stuttering. "And besides, it's probably some big jok-"

David and the rest of the students heard Mr. Stewart's reaction, as he'd look pale like a ghost. His whole demeanor showed he was stiff like a statue. David cautiously took a closer look himself, before his eyes widened in shock and awe from what was happening. The sight of the girl reminded him of his twin brother who died many years ago and to this day, it still haunts him. Her flesh would continue to melt away if no one took action. However, no one seemed to be taking the initiative of letting her inside and possibly saving her, as everyone was either scared, screaming from what they were seeing or just thinking it's all a joke.

"S-Sir, this must be a joke, r-right? T-This isn't part of the lock down drill, is it? I-Is it? S-Sir, p-please s-say something!" One of the students demanded, as everyone is going to go into panic mode if they didn't receive an answer soon. David gritted his teeth together before he'd yell at the teacher who was just standing there doing nothing. "W-We should let her in! W-Why aren't you opening the door, Sir!?" He continued to yell, as David himself would want to open the door, though that would probably piss Mr. Stewart off. Time was ticking, as the girl would end up becoming a puddle of flesh and bones if they didn't do anything.

Mika took a deep breath as she stared at the sight in front of her. This lock down drill was getting creepier and creepier. Watching the girl melt through the classroom window was like torture. Just a second of looking at her seemed to be hours layered upon hours. This had to be a dream, a nightmare, an illusion... ANYTHING! That girl... That girl was someone she knew. Oh yes, someone she knew very well. The first person who had talked to her in this stupid school.

It was Jessica. Her best friend. "No... No..." She hadn't realized it, but she had been leaning over and hyperventilating. It had taken such effort just to tear her eyes away from the small window in the door. "St-Stop it," she gasped out angrily towards Mr. Stewart. What a horrible, agonizing prank! However, if it was a joke, why was he just as shocked as all the other students were? Everybody was petrified, scared to make a move, just gaping at the girl.

The sight sucked the air from her lungs when she looked up again. Jessica was getting more desperate now, pulling on the door handle. Her skin seemed to simply slide off of her face, melting without effort. Nausea did cartwheels inside her stomach, willing her to throw up, but she held it back even as the bile in her throat increased. "Jessica!" Mika screamed like a banshee as she lunched herself towards the door, feeling just as desperate as she looked.

Mr. Stewart put an arm out and caught her just in time, shaking his head. He still looked shocked, though it was obvious he was trying to regain his composure. "During a lock down, you are not supposed to g-go outside." He actually stumbled. The teacher who was usually so calm and strict had stumbled on his words. If it wasn't a sign to freak out, the students didn't know what was. "Hush, hush! Settle down!" Some were screaming, others were simply held there by shock. And of course, there were those who full-on cried. "We'll let her in. Not to worry, it's near Halloween anyway so I'm sure they're putting on a show." He tried to sound sure.

Before he could open the door himself, however, another student ducked past him. "Anthony!" Mr. Stewart angrily yelled, pushing Mika straight into David in order to try and make a grab for the teen. Anthony quickly unlocked the door and slipped out, slamming it shut behind him. Mr. Stewart was going to go after him, but all he could now do was watch as a white mist surrounded him. Anthony grabbed Jessica and tried to open the door, but the teacher blocked his way. "Oh my God, what are you doing!?" A girl shrieked and tried to shove the teacher out of the way to let the two in, but he didn't budge.

Giving a quick apology to David, Mika turned back to the scene. She saw why Mr. Stewart wasn't letting them get back in. The mist she had seen before was surrounding the two, melting their flesh off as they both screamed. It was the mist. The mist... Mika collapsed onto the floor, on her hands and knees as she threw up from the grotesque sight. She didn't have the strongest stomach in the world, that was for sure. This was all too much for the teen. She got up, crying silently as she saw Jessica collapse. Anthony was already half-dead, on the floor as well. "Jesus..." Mr. Stewart locked the door again and turned to everybody. "Nobody's stepping foot in the hall, understood? Nobody."

This wasn't fake at all, as the sight right before him seemed very legit. Mostly everyone in the room now think it was no longer a joke anymore, and they were all worried for their lives. Most of them cried and curled up in a corner, with their hands held tightly against their ears. Sally, the girl who was made fun of for crying in secret, wouldn't stop muttering to herself, repeating 'It's just a dream' over and over again. Meanwhile, Kevin, the guy who laughed at Sally earlier, still thought and was probably the only one that thinks it's all a big joke.

"Cooome on, Mr. Stewart must be in all of this since we don't pay attention in his stupid class. Are all of you really-" Having enough of Kevin's antics, David would shove the other guy with his arms. "Shut the fuck up, dude. Take a close fucking look! Does that look fake to you at all!?" He said in anger, as the girl from the outside was melting slowly into a gooey, bloody mess. Though, when seeing Mika just suddenly launch herself at the door, the boy would try to stop her. Though, thankfully and as odd as it sounds, Mr. Dickhead was able to save Mika from going outside. When he'd try to ask what Mika was thinking, he didn't notice Anthony just zipping for the door. "Anthony, just hold on m-" He'd catch Mika in time, making sure she doesn't fall and collapse onto the floor. Though taking a closer look and after hearing her scream, she must look like an absolute mess. She'd let her go silently before he'd watch Anthony just run out of the door.

Though when Mr. Stewart was blocking the way, he'd scream at him, wanting to push him out of the way as well. As David got close to the door, however he'd watch Anthony get engulfed in that same mist that was suffocating Jessica. "Holy shit-" David's eyes widened in utter shock, as he watched Anthony's flesh melting away just as quickly as Jessica was, as she was already on the floor. He realized why the teacher didn't let them back inside, as David wasn't so sure if this mist was going to enter the classroom the minute they open that door. Kevin now would finally believe on what he was seeing, as he remained silent for the time being. Sally, on the other hand, her mutters would be now incoherent screams, as several of her friends tried to calm her down to no avail. Things were spiraling out of control.

Seeing Mika throw up her vomit across the floor, several students backed away from her, especially Billy, the guy who was flirting with most of the girls. "Ugh, what the fuck man!? You're gonna smell up the entire fucking room now, because of that!? Fucking shit man, gross!" He said in disgust, as most of the girls would agree in unison. "Fucking freak!" One of the girls cried out harshly, as none of those people seemed to be aware on what was going on the outside. David glared at Billy for being an asshole, as he'd reach into his pocket. He pulled out a handkerchief and handed it to Mika. "Here.. you can use this if you want." He said quietly, as Mika probably had some of the vomit around her mouth.

Meanwhile, one of the students, Phil would scream at Mr. Stewart, as Anthony was his best friend. "What the fuck man!? Why did you just leave in there to die, man? How in the fuck are we gonna get out of here, man!? What the fuck, just what the fuck!?" He was clearly pissed off and he'd make a point by shoving Mr. Stewart's shoulder with his hand. Phil would be hysterical now as he couldn't stop screaming at the teacher. "You left my fucking friend to die, man! And I don't give a shit what you say man, I'm getting the fuck out of here man, you dig!?" He said rather defiantly, before he'd try to make a break for one of the other means of leaving: The windows.

Without hesitation, Phil quickly would open one of the school windows. However, David noticed something odd about the outside, before he'd realize something. His eyes widened in horror. "NO! PHIL DON'T!" David cried out to him, grabbing for his arm, before Phil would shove him back away. "Fuck you man, fuck all of you man. I ain't fucking stay here man!" He said, before he'd open the window and exit the outside. And to make sure no one followed him, he'd close the window right behind him. "N-No.." David said, as he'd bang on the window. "C-Come back before- Oh no.." The mist was also outside before it too would begin to engulf Phil into its grasp.

"What the f--UUUUUUAHHHH!" The boy cried out before he'd scream in horror, as he could feel his skin just pulling away from his body. His hands would cling onto his face, covering it tightly with his fingers. Though as he pulled his hand away, the fleshy parts of his face were seen, sinew and veins bleeding violently from where it came. Phil ran straight from where the window once was, before he'd desperately try and claw his way back into the window. David, however, could only watch in horror as Phil's fingers fall off, one by one, before his screams and his breath slowly dwindled into silence. And soon after, the room itself retired into silence.

Everybody seemed to be all shook up. Some teenagers were huddled together in groups, crying, some used anger to deal with this, others were in complete shock. All the while Mr. Stewart was trying to calm everybody down by using his teacher voice. It wasn't working, for the most part. Some of the students even took their fear and anger out on him. "That was my boyfriend out there, you jackass! You let Anthony die! You killed him! It's all your fault!" The girl, Rachel, had to be dragged away from the surprised English teacher by force. Other students kept complaining to the teacher, shouting at him, crying to him. The guy looked quite overwhelmed.

Mika was really shook up. She could barely stand after vomiting, so she sat down on a chair and began to clean up her mouth. Billy had cursed at her, but what right did he have? She had been watching her best friend melt right in front of her. It wasn't the easiest thing to deal with, at all! She still felt angry at that boy, especially for saying things loud enough to make others join in. The air of humiliation around her was obvious, but she still cleaned herself up as best she could and held her chin up to appear dignified.

Mr. Steward looked very befuddled as Phil screamed angrily at him. Almost every student was blaming the teacher, which made sense since he was responsible for these students. However, this wasn't his fault. He himself didn't understand what was going on. "Mr. Woods, you come back here right now!" He called for Phil to come back as he went to the window, the teacher's eyes open wide. Mr. Stewart ran to the windows when Phil wouldn't obey, helplessly looking out at another of his students as the guy melted into a little puddle of bones. It was terrifying to the other students as the meltdown slowly ceased to a halt. Everybody was silent now, only sniffles and whimpers breaking it once in a while. They all stared at the teacher as if he knew what do do next.

"S-Sir? H-How are we getting back h-home if we can't leave the classroom?" A girl sniffled, huddling with her friends for safety and comfort. She looked up at the teacher with wide eyes, face streaked with tears. Mr. Stewart let out a slow breath and turned to face the students. "We just have to wait it out. I'm sure it'll be over soon," he said, trying to remain calm though his voice waved, betraying him. "Wait it out!? Fuck that, you saw what happened to Phil and Anthony! This ain't no joke!" The voice was Treyvon, one of Billy's buddies. He did not look happy, anger plastered all over her face as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Mr. Webber, please remain calm." It sounded as if the teacher's patience was wearing thing.

Treyvon hadn't mentioned Jessica. Mika felt rage rise within her as he skipped straight over her best friend's name. It wasn't like these people even knew who she was, but the lack of recognition still stung her. Her best friend had died right in this school, a school with a bunch of idiots inside of it. She spotted Brandon, Jessica's boyfriend, and walked over. "I'm sorry," she said, patting his shoulder. Brandon looked up, his eyes showing the pain he felt at the moment. "Let's go try to find a way out of here." She pulled him up and the two went searching, looking at the windows and the door. "It seems like there's only two ways out. Both are blocked."

"Holy crap, look what I found!" Another student was jumping up and down excitedly. It was the first student that had seen the sight of Jessica melting away. Mika remembered him to be AJ. AJ looked quite happy as he pulled the rug away from in front of the desk, revealing a trapdoor. Mr. Stewart crouched next to it and examined it for a few seconds. "This leads to the basement," he said, relief in his voice, "There should be a way to get out by going through here, I'd think." AJ gave one of his buddies a high five. "Aw yeah sucka, this looks ta be a good way to get outta here! Let's go!" Mr. Stewart shook his head at him as the guy pulled open the door. "Mr. Jameson," he angrily warned. Alas, AJ was far from listening to the teacher. He went to take a step in.

"There's no-" Just like that, he fell. His leg was trapped in the door as he screamed hysterically, wriggling all around. He was chubby, the only thing that had prevented him from falling the whole way down. Everybody stared as Mr. Stewart tried to heft AJ out of the door, straining to get him out of this predicament. He freed him, but he couldn't hold on and AJ dropped into the hole in the floor. A deadly silence surrounded everyone as they held their breaths, wondering if the student was okay.

"Ey! Come down here and check it out guys!" AJ's voice coming from below made everybody release the air they had been holding in. "It's real cool, kinda dark but there's a light in the corner." Mr. Stewart's eyes swept across each student he had. "Is it safe?" he called down to the guy. "Yeah, looks safe to me! C'mon, else I'm gonna party by myself once I get back home!"

Chaos seemed to be the perfect word that described on what was going on right now. Mr. Stewart seemed to be losing control of his students and who can blame him, since he's wholly responsible for the safety of his students. And with each death that had occurred, it would obviously take a toll on his overall psyche on the whole situation. David felt really awful of what happened to Phil, as he could of saved him if he just tried hard enough. He wasn't close to the guy, but he was still one of his fellow classmates.

"Hey man.. you tried." Said a voice behind him. It was Zach, one of his own best friends. He was the first person to make him try and feel at home within the school, plus they shared several interests together, like sports for example. David sighed, looking towards Zach as he tried to pretend everything was going to be alright. "Yeah.. I know." Was all he said, before Zach would try to get David's head back into normal. "Come on man, looks like someone found another way out of here." He instructed, as he tried to signal David to follow him, "Oh and by the way.. I saw you handing your lil' hanky there to.. what's her name. Mika was it?" He smirked, and knowing Zach, he was trying to lighten up things. David shook his head, sighing. "Now's not the time, alright? Let's just.." He trailed off, looking over Mika to see if she was okay. Zach smirked slightly, before shaking his head as well. "Alright, alright, whatever you say."

Meanwhile, Sally's friends were trying to calm Sally down. Melanie, one of her friends, was trying to snap Sally out of her incoherent screaming and trance. "Sally, come on! One of the guys found a way out of here! Please, just-" Sally would end up pushing Melanie away from her, and would grab a chair and use it as a weapon against the other students. "DON'T FUCKING COME NEAR ME!" She cried out, as Melanie was trying to calm her down, placing her hands defensively. "S-Sally, c-calm down! P-Please, put the c-chair down!" She begged, though Sally was not having any of it as she'd try to strike the chair at the students, though thankfully, Kevin, who was the one that made fun of her in the first place, would sneak behind her and try to keep her in place. She'd scream hysterically, as her arms and legs struggled to break free. "LET ME GO, LET ME GO, LET ME GO!" She repeated over and over again, as Kevin and among other students would try to keep her in place.

While all of that is happening, Billy couldn't help but smirk at Sally's shenanigans. Even with the deaths, he was still a gigantic asshole as he'd place his finger next to his head and twirling it in a circular fashion, giving the gesture that she'd gone crazy towards Treyvon. However, his expression slowly shifted into anger, when he caught sight of Mika eyeballing him. He'd make his way to her and started to shove her roughly with his hand onto her shoulder, "You got something to say to me? Or are you gonna barf up whatever you had left for breakfast, eh?" He asked, as Billy can be very intimidating once someone crosses his mood. "Hmph. Don't waste your breath, Billy. That mouse won't say a word to ya." One of the girls that Billy flirted with the most, Kassandra, was one of the prettiest though also one of the most cruel and vain students of the entire class. She'd give the girl a glare, before Billy would listen to Kassandra. "Meh. You're right. Got better things to worry about since people are dying out there. Just don't do it again." He warned before he'd join the others when they were all checking out the trapdoor.

"NOOO! AJ! S-Speak to me! Say something!" Someone would cry out. It was the nerd that Mika was standing next to from earlier, Wayne. Wayne wore thick-rimmed glasses and he also had a very awful asthma problem. So much that he had to bring his asthma pump everywhere with him. Taking short pants and breaths, Wayne would take several puffs onto his pump before he'd try to look for AJ that fell down towards the hole. He was relieved when he would hear that AJ was alright, as well as everyone else. Though, that was weird, why was there a trapdoor in their classroom in the first place? And would it lead them to safety?

David would watch the incident that occurred with Sally and her insanity, as Zach looked on with a very sad expression, "Jesus.. this whole thing is driving everyone nuts, man. I think if I stay longer in here, I might end up like Sally over there." Zach said, though David's attention would be towards Billy and his pack of goons as he tried to intimidate and make fun of Mika again. He frowned when Billy was being a gigantic dick, especially when she just lost her best friend. Things would spiral out of control very soon, if people continued to quarrel with one another. When Billy would leave Mika alone once more, David would leave to see if she was alright. Which was likely not the case. Zach eyed at him, though he wouldn't say anything as he'd simply follow in silence. "Hey umm.. just ignore Billy, okay? The guy's an asshole but umm.. if there's a problem.. just let me know. And uhh.. sorry about your friend." David whispered, trying to force a smile onto his face.

Back to the trapdoor, everyone seemed to be reluctant to joining AJ down the hole. Though seeing as they have no other options, this is likely the only way to get out, as the classroom doors and the windows were blocked by that strange mist that melts anyone that gets within its grasp. "S-Sir..?" One student would call out to the teacher, seeing as he was the only adult of the entire group. Would he tell his students to remain where they were and hope help comes? Or would they take their chances and go beyond the trapdoor?

"Miss Silver!" Mr. Stewart looked rather shocked when Sally got all panicked. He went over to her when Kevin grabbed her, sternly telling Kevin to respect his own space as he made him get away to let the teacher handle it. She had already been calmed a little by her friends, so it made his job somewhat easier. He crouched down beside her. "Miss Silver, please remain calm. Panicking like that will not help anyone. We'll find a way out of this place and you'll be safe and sound back home as soon as possible. Just please, remain calm. You're scaring the others. Alright? Stay calm, it'll all be okay."

"I'm sorry. For you having to see her death, I mean," Mika murmured to Brandon. He turned his head away and sighed, "I'd rather not talk about it. It's not something I want to remember right now. Everybody's going crazy. Are you listening to them? I'm surprised I haven't gone all wacko on Mr. Stewart myself. He's a good guy, but... he can't handle this. This, this is chaos." He swept his hand over the entire room. Mika slowly nodded, knowing he was correct.

If the students weren't crying, they were either all going insane on the teacher or simply rocking back and forth in the corner. This was stripping the calm away from the entire classroom. In addition, the strange mist was still there. It seemed to knock at the door from time to time, a soft little thump echoing whenever it would hit the classroom window. It couldn't get in, which was a relief, but it was already destroying something. It was ripping away the sanity. The students should be grateful that it wasn't ripping their flesh off instead, but they were all busy screaming about it. They had already lost people to this mist from carelessness and terror. This wasn't the classroom that Mika knew. It seemed that only a few minutes ago she was in the process of getting in trouble. Now, she would have given anything to go back to that time. Anything to see Jessica again. Anything.

Treyvon laughed when Billy made the loopy gesture, holding his sides. "Yo man, everybody in this room be goin' crazy!" He gave Billy a friendly smack on the shoulder as he pointed at the "deranged" Sally, the crying girls in the corner, and another guy tucked into a different corner who rocked back and forth steadily. "They all coo-coo! Jesus!"

Mika was interrupted out of her lonesome muse when Billy came up to her. He shoved her, straight into Brandon, but she didn't make a sound, simply staring up at him with wide eyes. Brandon didn't say anything either, not wanting to piss Billy off, so he resorted to merely watching. Mika looked over towards Kassandra, feeling anger rise up inside of her. How could they be so mean? She nodded to Billy when he warned her and let out a sigh of relief when he left her alone. She turned her head to look at Wayne when he was ballistic over his best friend, and distantly she knew she would have been doing the same thing if Jessica had fallen. The thought made her heart ache. She gasped and turned to the person who was speaking, noticing David with her careful eyes. "I-I'll let you know," she replied, agony in her eyes when he mentioned Jessica. She sighed and looked down at her feet. "I... keep hoping that it's a dream. That it's just something I'll wake up from, soon enough. Sounds silly, huh?"

Mr. Stewart stood in front of the trap door with a teacherly attitude, getting everybody's attention with his loud voice. "Listen up everybody! This trapdoor is our only way out of here. It was designed precisely for emergencies like these, to give students a chance to escape to the basement. The school has many ways to get in and out of the basement, so I don't doubt that we can find a way. We have to go in, alright? I don't think there's much of a use waiting for help. We have no way to contact help. I've tried. Cell phones don't work. A couple of kids have tried as well." He looked over at the group of sobbing girls. Obviously, they had tried it. Their phones not working had made them break down like that. "That being said, I'll go in first to catch each and every student. You should go along, all of you! Don't know why the ladder's not in there, but this is the way it had to work." With that, he jumped in. The students looked down into the hole, unsure about it. A few brave ones stepped up and jumped, the teacher easily catching them. "No sweat man," Treyvon said to Billy as he jumped in as well.

Sally was calmed slightly from Mr. Stewart, as there are reasons why she was in this kind of state. With people dying around her, with also not taking into consideration on how serious this can be, she lost all hope and thought they were all going to remain and die. But the teacher's reassurance just might be what the doctor had ordered, as her voice remained quiet, nodding several times that she won't worry the others anymore. Though, the damage might have been already done with the way she acted. Kevin grumbled a bit, as he was only trying to help and make up for what he did earlier, as he made fun and poked her vulnerable side.

It is odd that the mist could not enter through the doors and the windows. Which is a good thing, considering the fact that the classroom would of been filled with screaming, melting bodies though. Did the mist have a mind of its own or something? Was it even capable of entering through the room, but decided not to do so? Did it enjoy making everyone suffer and luring people to their deaths? Whatever the reason may be, it wasn't going to go away anytime soon, as the trapdoor was their only means of escape.

Hearing the teacher's instructions, most of them were very wary. And with no ladder to help guide them down, some were even skeptical to just jump into the hole. Wayne seemed very nervous, as he couldn't breathing heavily and nervously, "Are you sure t-this is safe? W-What if someone gets-WAHHH!" Someone or something would make Wayne fall suddenly into the hole as he'd fall into the ground with a loud thud. He groaned, as his glasses fell as well, a noticeable crack seen across the lenses. Someone cried out and asked if Wayne was okay, as he stood up onto his feet albeit with wobbly results, "I-I'm fine, I'm fine.. I just.. I just fell." He said with a groan, before looking for AJ.

Billy grinned, as seeing no one had noticed, he was the one that pushed Wayne into the hole. But he made sure he looked vague about it, and no one would really know since everyone surrounding the hole very eagerly. Sooner or later, everyone came to their senses and ended up jumping into the hole. It took some prodding and dragging on the more depressed and broken-down individuals such as Sally, but with some convincing they would also follow suit as well. Will this trapdoor lead them to safety and help? Or will it lead to their dooms instead?

David found it easier if they didn't talk about the recently deceased among the others, at least for the time being, seeing that Jessica's death took an overall dent in Mika's psyche. He'd look out for her, though, he figured Brandon would have that already covered seeing as he was Jessica's boyfriend. Or was the boyfriend. Last thing he could do watch out for her former best friend. "Come on, David, almost everyone is down there." Zach called out to him, trying to snap out of his trance, before he'd jump into the hole. David was the last person to jump into the hole, as he took one final look onto the classroom before him. His eyes glared at the mist that took the innocent lives of the students. Why did they deserve such a punishment? With one final breath, he'd jump, "Here I go!" He said, as the classroom was now empty, void of life and souls now. All they can really do is move backward, as there is no going back anymore.

All that the mist was doing was wandering round and round in an everlasting circle. Outside, it had the behavior of wind, pushing against the glass forcefully as if a strong gust had blown in. A strong, visible gust, but still. The mist was prowling outside the classroom door as if patiently waiting for its next victim. It tried to wedge itself under the doors, but any and all attempts were futile. Mr. Stewart had of course locked the door again, so even the doorknob wasn't working. It seemed that this mist did have a mind of its own, in a way. It moved as if it were a person, though overall it had adopted the behavior of wind. Visible wind that could melt the flesh off of a person's body. That was new.

"Mr. Stanton!" The surprised cry came from Mr. Stewart, echoing upwards to the other kids. The teacher helped up his student, looking shocked. He hadn't expected him, so he hadn't been careful. "Jesus... What happened?" Mr. Stewart spotted Wayne's glasses and picked them up, offering them to the shaken up kid. "Be more careful next time, you could get hurt." This was said in a stern teacher voice. Of course, adults didn't understand this kind of stuff at all. Always thinking that the kid who got pushed was to blame.

"Ey buddy!" The friendly greeting came from AJ. He slapped his hand on Wayne's shoulder in a friendly way. "Glad you could join the party!" The chubby kid looked around for a moment. "Could use some color, though. Don't think parties were meant to be held in weird creepy basements. Let me tell you about this one image I found on Google..." While AJ wasn't really book smart like Wayne was, he was media smart. In a nerdy way, to be specific. He didn't know much about celebrities or fashion, but he knew information about stuff considered nerdy such as Star Wars. Their knowledge combined could lead to one hour spent on giving out boring facts. Well, at least they had each other to talk the other's ear off.

Mika stood on the sidelines as everyone crowded around the trapdoor, hugging herself tightly and shivering. It wasn't from the cold, however. She was just scared. She had never felt so alone. Even with Brandon standing with her, there was an empty hole in her heart. She shut her eyes tight and lowered her head, though Brandon started to ask question. "Everything's fine," she quietly murmured as she lifted her head again. Her eyes went to Billy, and she saw. She saw what he did. Mika narrowed her eyes, though she was too afraid to tell anyone. She was shivering even more now.

Brandon went to the door in the floor, staring down at it. He was, for the most part, in shock and in denial. He could move, but he felt like a zombie. He could talk, but his teeth hated to part. He simply jumped down and let Mr. Stewart catch him, then went to the wall and leaned against it, his attitude letting him blend into the bleak gray wall. Brandon wasn't really thinking, but he wasn't moving or speaking. He was simply zoning out, not accepting his girlfriend's death, and staring at the wall.

What lay waiting in the basement? Mika wondered about this as she prepared to jump. She did, the teacher breaking her fall easily, and looked around. The walls were a simple gray. Bright light shone through the trapdoor, though being down here and looking up at it made it seem like it was so far up. It made her throat feel tight. There were two ways to go. One seemed to lead deeper in, a dark and straight hallway, while the other veered. As in, the hallway rounded a corner. Just like AJ had said, there was a light there, brightening up this bland hallway just a little. It seemed clear to her where they should go. That dark hallway did not exactly look like there would be a rainbow at the end of it.

Now that everyone went through the basement and being away from that dreaded classroom, now the big question is where will this strange tunnel lead them towards exactly? David never really heard of trapdoors in a classroom before as he found the idea so farfetched and strange to begin with. But they didn't have any other options at the moment, as the murderous mist from above was still lingering near the door and the windows. Sighing, he gathered near where everyone was grouped, and stuck near Zach as much as he can.

Zach was probably the only person that was calm, cool and collected, despite the horrific deaths of the other students that happened not too long ago. Though, David didn't want to brag and gloat towards the others, seeing as that was the last thing he wanted to do. Especially when Brandon and Mika lost a very dear friend in Jessica. Shaking his head from such thoughts, Zach raised his brows at the other boy, "Keep your head together. Hopefully this will lead to.." He paused, as Zach seemed unsure as he trailed off with his words. David didn't bother to respond, as he eyed the two paths that lead to different outcomes. Which way were they going to go exactly?

"T-Thank you, S-Sir," Wayne said, as he grabbed for his glasses but was a bit upset of seeing a small cracking forming across the lenses. "Oh jeez.. at l-least they're not broken!" He said, as he'd put them on, trying to deal with what vision he got from them. His mood lightened up when AJ walked up to him, however. "AJ! I'm so glad that you're alright!" He said, as Wayne would then converse with about boring trivia and facts that no one around them didn't seem to care about. It at least gave them something to do and something to talk about, as it's better than doing nothing.

Billy snickered, as he pointed towards the two nerds across from them, "Fifty dollars says that these two bozos are going to be next on the chopping block." He said, as he was referring to AJ and Wayne. Since they weren't exactly what you call, physically fit, there's no way in the world that they'd be able to escape, should they be forced to run. Billy was showing just how much an asshole he is, as he didn't seem to call about the well-being of others, except for himself and his little clique of a group he had forming. It is to wonder if Mr. Stewart was paying attention to Billy at all?

Just like Brandon, Sally went from a screaming banshee to a lifeless zombie. Melanie was starting to worry about her, as she tried to shake her off her comatose-like trance. But it was to no avail, as the girl refused to talk and wanted to avoid eye contact with everyone. She preferred to stay up there in the classroom, as Sally actually wanted the mist to come get her. Come get her and set her free from this torment and misery that she was experiencing all around her. Sally leaned against a wall, as she sat down and curled up, and remained there since.

David looked at the different paths that they had available to them. Seeing as one way had a light while the other does not, the most likely way that everyone would go for was the one with the lights. Though, could the dark passage lead them to somewhere even better? He walked up to Mr. Stewart, and began to ask him where he was going to take them, "Mr. Stewart, which path are we going to take?" He asked, as all eyes would suddenly be onto the only adult of the group. He was their guiding light and voice and the only person he can depend on now.
