Instead of beating yourself over it, you should take what happened as a lesson and move on with the knowledge you have of what worked and what didn't. Whether you should delete it or not is our call....what have I done? I shouldn't have made that RP. Should I just delete it?

I think it has to do with he fact that 40K has a pretty bad reputation for attracting toxic people and most people don't want to deal with that and RPG horror stories hasn't made it any better. Maybe you should look for a Discord, like outside of this specific site? From what I hear there are plenty of groups for it, D&D and pathfinder maybe just not on this specific site.I'm SO over how difficult it is to find a good Warhammer 40k group. I'm well aware of the reasons WHY it's difficult to get these groups started. But that doesn't detract from my frustration. Like, it's not even a super niche fandom or anything. At least, I don't think it is. It's definitely grown in popularity since I first got into it in the early 90's. But getting a group going is nigh impossible.
I've branched out to look for Discord groups, because imo, the setting in a forum RP site doesn't cater well to it. I've been in at least three attempts on this site alone, and it just doesn't work out. So, I figured that an entire Discord server dedicated to a Warhammer 40,000 setting would definitely give me the roleplay opportunities I'm looking for. But y'know, it really doesn't. I lost track of how many WH40K Discord groups I've joined and dropped because they are either super dead, not very "literate", or are so narrow and specific about their setting within the WH40k universe that I can't play the character I want in the means I want to. And my biggest gripe with Discord groups in general, is that it the RP requests are majority 1x1. And for me, that kind of defeats the point of joining a group. I went to a group for group RP. Not 1x1.
Let me make it clear that I usually don't have an issue with my character applications getting approved. It's getting them into play after they are approved that's the problem. It's just horribly frustrating. I don't have a whole bunch of fandoms that interest me enough to try out roleplay in them. WH40k is one of them. And like I said, it's not even super obscure. So I just don't get what the fucking hang-up is with getting that shit going.
looking for Discord group outside of this site is exactly what I was talking about. Well I typically hear people talk about it in a TTRPG setting so I guess they've found a way to make it work.looking for Discord group outside of this site is exactly what I was talking about. (Tbh, I forgot that this site has the "off-site ads" section)
As far as toxic people. i've been on a fair amount of 40k fan groups (non RP) and I've gotten along just great with most of the people I talk to. But that's probably on account of me not being heavily vested into the actual tabletop game or holding any canonical characters particularly dear to my heart. I mostly just painted the miniatures, and read some books. I love the setting and overall concept of 40k. But I dont get all heated over any issue in particular.
I've actually been referred to other RP forum sites that focus more in sci-fi roleplay. BUT those sites offer mostly system roleplay. Which is not what I'm looking for. I roleplay only in freeform narrative. Stats and dice and such to dictate the direction of the narrative are not what I'm looking for. So anything based on systems like D&D and Pathfinder, etc. are a no-go. And tbh, I don't even see a whole lot of system run WH40k stuff. I imagine it would clash with the tabletop mechanics, as getting technical would have to involve ALL the stuff from that element.
As I said in my initial post, I've been following WH40K since the early 90's. I've been in lots of (non RP) groups about it. I'm not sure why you think that fandom community is any more toxic than others. But as someone who's been there firsthand, I can tell you that they are pretty much the same as any other fandom in that regardWell I typically hear people talk about it in a TTRPG setting so I guess they've found a way to make it work.
I'm not saying that's the actual experience of WH40K I'm just saying that it's the reputation it has as that's all I really hear about the series and this tends to be why I hear that people steer clear of it which may be contributing to why it's so hard to find a group.
I didn't say that I personally thought it was toxic, as I've said twice now that is the reputation that it has. I'm not sure where the reputation came from but it's all I hear anytime that WH40K comes up that it has the tendency to attract the most toxic people and that the recent popularity in RPG horror stories has not made that reputation any better. I am fully aware of the contrast be reputation and how things actually are I have been playing FFXIV since Beta so I know how things actually are and it clearly contrasted right the reputation that it had like people who were under the impression that if you were the slightest bit rude that you'd instantly be banned unless you faked being nice or people who were under impression that there were absolutely no toxic people in FFXIV which obviously as someone who has played from the beginning I know neither is true, but people outside of my bubble do not know this so the reputation that is has can scare people away if they think they'll be banned for expressing frustration with another player. As I said in my initial post, I've been following WH40K since the early 90's. I imagine it's a different crowd from the roleplayers to the ttgamers. It was originally just a tabletop wargame. So, it stands to reason that is going to be the "main" discourse of what you hear of it. And as I said, it's not hard to find an RP group. It's just hard to find an active, literate group that isn't running their setting in something like a nation builder (army vs. army) or is just so specific that it doesn't allow for a lot of deviation from their corner of the universe.
I guess. I've not been privy to hearing of its reputation being as such. I mean, this is probably just spread by people who have been banned for their own bullshit in those groups. Sometimes I wonder if it's the toxic people themselves in most fandoms, that spread the notion that a fandom is toxic, just because they got themselves booted. lol..That is my point, I am not saying that 40K is any more toxic than any other fandom, I am saying that is the reputation it has.

That's kind of how reputation works though, the vocal minority sets the president for how the rest of the world views said community like evangelical Christians or trans community saying that you not wanting to date them is transphobic. Is this how any of the communities actually are as a whole? No but its what the majority of the world is exposed to so this how they are seen because of the vocal minority.Between people yelling at each other about which side would win more, which canon characters are better, and meeting an misogynist incel on Tiktok who could make WH40K stuff, it's a lot. XD But I have seen the same kinds of people in the proportionate amount for the size of the fandom. So yeah. xD it's uh... Yup. XD I always find those people too, and it sucks. Every fandom has its level of bullshitery, but I don't see WH40K as having a reputation for it. I just think the minority are just really loud and that's where the reputation comes from. :3

I guess since I've just been IN the fandom, and don't exactly go around asking people what they think of the fandom, I never really get the outsiders perspective.Exactly
One of the WH40K stories I heard literally came from 4Chan so I was pretty sure it was a reputation thing rather than how it actually was.I guess since I've just been IN the fandom, and don't exactly go around asking people what they think of the fandom, I never really get the outsiders perspective.
4Chan in itself having a less-than-great reputation as being filled with shit-tier content. lmaoOne of the WH40K stories I heard literally came from 4Chan so I was pretty sure it was a reputation thing rather than how it actually was.
Yea, like how everyone else in the rest of Canada assumes us Albertans are all backwards and reactionary rednecks. There's actually a lot of progressive people here too. They're just more in the urban areas and the reactionary minority is very loud. That's kind of how reputation works though, the vocal minority sets the president for how the rest of the world views said community like evangelical Christians or trans community saying that you not wanting to date them is transphobic. I just think all Canadians wear red flannel, drink maple syrup, and are well-mannered, Aye!Yea, like how everyone else in the rest of Canada assumes us Albertans are all backwards and reactionary rednecks. Actually, nah. That was fun and we all managed somehow. Plus, if you do wanna delete it, you should've talked it out with everyone in that RP, not just me....what have I done? I shouldn't have made that RP. Should I just delete it?
yeah man they should remove likes & lovesWell, since I'm here I will confess it really gets under my skin whenever I try to do anything self expressive that takes a lot of bravery and risk of being judged and others wait until they see the approval rating to decide to copy the details but not even tell me they approve.
