Experiences ✶ what were your guys first roleplays? <3

Oh my god this is embarrassing and bad but my first ever roleplay was probably on the early days of Instagram. I was a little kid who loved Super Mario so I found a group and we roleplayed as various Mario characters, specifically the Koopalings. So yea, I got my start roleplaying one liners with a bunch of other kids on Instagram of all people.

Hi!

Texting with my buds. Back in the day we would change contact names and group text stupid things and soon enough we started to pretend to be kinda like dumb little pokemon charries. We'd battle each other but soon enough it devolved into smutty toilet humour cuz degenerate skater kids lol

my first ever roleplay was at like... age 11? in around middle school maybe?– i vaguely remember roleplaying undertale on an app called "Wolf Online" it was one of those weird survival wolf or dinosaur games i downloaded on my aunt's ipad at the time... (;゚∇゚)

i also know that i roleplayed on Animal Jam and this one app called Amino. i was totally all into roleplaying warrior cats, percy jackson, mlp, pokemon.. back then. i have dabbled in aniroleplay with my own characters around 2016 to mid 2019? i have zero clue.

oh dear. id have to say the extremely old style neopets boards before the revamp. the ancient fossil of a bbs system that didn't bump up topics when new responses were posted. i believe it was an era where there was like a cliche subset of people named 'annoyers'? they weren't quite rp'rs, but not quite ooc either. it was an odd time long long ago.

after that i drifted around the usual gaia, back when your post length and such was denoted by semi-lit/lit/adv-lit ect, and then tumblr with various extended breaks from rp in general for several years and now.. i'm here. have no memory of just how i got here though. ha.

a high school role play on the neopet boards.

i was so nervous.

at the time, I was like 10. fresh to the internet world. and I remember looking into the rp forum and there was this top thread that was like: guidelines and rules on how to rp

and the person who made that thread had a webpage dedicated to rping terms, rules and know-hows. i remember it reading it two, three, even four times. then I remember reading a lot of threads to get a feel for how it was done, and I though: ok, high school seems easy. i go to school. im 10 but I go to school.

so I joined as a freshmen goth girl who sat under the tree and played guitar. her name was like raven or something.

good times.

My first RP was on Chess.com’s Off-Topic section lmao
It was a group Freeform where it started raining forever. The rain was also deadly, for some reason. So, the characters were all stuck in the same roof.

My first rp was- also on Chess.com- for some reason, the first rp I was actually involved in (cus 1000 miles (another rp) died (inactive)) was- also Rainy Forever (the rp where it was raining forever), too. =P

My first official RP was in 2004. It was called Defias Lineage, and I played a blind vampire named Sky.

Back then I was nothing more than a one-lining buffoon who had no idea how to capture a setting. It was definitely some of the most fun I ever had though. It seemed that the years following would see the RP world become far more serious than it needed to be, so I always harkened back to the first few years where things were simple (and fun).

I'm not sure if it was my first, but it's the earliest one that I remember! It was on an old XMB site that no longer exists. It was Harry Potter, and we were both using original characters. This one stands out to me from that website because it lasted for several years. We literally went through their fourth, fifth, and I think even sixth year at Hogwarts! Hadn't intended romance, but it ended up going that way as the characters developed. It was thousands of pages long, and I really think that if the site hadn't shut down it would still be going. I never even "knew" my RP partner. She never talked to me OOC (except in the initial plotting stages), but I could disappear for three months and come back to post... and she'd be there to reply. I was impressed. I still think about her and wonder how she's doing.

This was like the mid 2000's to early 2010's.

It was through snail mail, because I'm that old. 🦕
I got bored writing my pen pal letters about my own life, so I started writing them about some characters life instead, from his perspective. And she's reply with her character. I loved it. I recall it started out as a fanfic but I tended to stray and do my own thing. We were teenagers so it was probably very dramatic.
My first internet based role play was years later, through email. That one lasted for years and it was very free form. Very different from how role play is done now.

Some kids' site that's defunct now... We had this entire OC wolf pack. Not furries or anything. Just literal wolves 😭 I think my posts were 1-3 sentences max, haha.

I first started roleplaying in a digimon RP forum whose rules and mechanics I really loved. The way that forum was set up everything was one big connected RP closer to what we have in hosted projects than RPN as a whole. Individual RP threads were more like mini-stories within the larger overarching story.

My first roleplay character was a solo digimon living in a dirty polluted river, and he was quite territorial about it. He had no sense for what good food was, so in his mind the garbage flowing down the river was a feast. My first RP was just kind of him hanging out with this guy who happened to spot him while biking past the river.

A blast from the past!

I started out in a probably defunct now chatbox back in 2009. I wrote with four boys who were older than me (thankfully, they never made me uncomfortable, they treated me like their annoying little sister) and our stories were usually about our OCs going on whatever low fantasy adventures we wanted. I was only about ten or eleven at the time, so of course my character was a elf-cat hybrid who got extra lives from Star Clan, rode a pegasus, and had a demon-elven older brother. A bit much in hindsight, but fun back then!(´∇`'')

An original high-school rp on a lgbt site. I did two replies before getting bored and giving up. Went to a found family rp afterwards and did that until it died

I swear I have never had an original experience. 🤣 The first RP I can remember knowing what it was, was an OC wolf pack in a literal chat board when forums got the chat feature. Just absolute chaos of everyone chatting at the same time, into this single RP of sentences. That really takes me back.

The first one I was in was a Nation Building/Nation RP premised on the idea that you control a colony on large island distant from your home. Your originating nation has of course sent you there to exploit the island for them benefit of the mother nation and also to compete vs everyone else. It worked on a purely narrative basis where without the mediation of dice and game style mechanics everyone just sort of iterated on one another.

Being very new and very young but finding something in my alley of the sorts of video games I had already been playing at the time, I basically wrote everything as if describing what would be going on in a game of Medieval 2: Total War

It was on Amino and was a kpop rp when I was 13 😭 looking back at it, it had soooo many spelling errors that I never noticed before

A Red Dead Redemption role play server on Xbox 360. All of your character’s sheet, bank, and the such were kept on the website, but the RP was done in-game. Fun stuff!

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon or Warrior Cats, I got into writing both at the same time. I'm still really surprised that I did not grow up to be a furry.
