Other What ruined a character for you?

Won't name names but a side character in something I enjoy basically garnered his own mini-fanbase while sidelining the actual protagonist. Annoying enough on its own but makes me angrier when said protagonist is a woman who they insist is 'boring' and 'weird' et cetera. Mind you, these are the fans of the comic relief character who arguably has the least screen time in the franchise. Drives me mad and permanently tainted my view of the character which is a shame because I quite liked him before then

When I first started playing ffxiv, my favorite character was Yda. She was a badass. Imagine the most adorable, positive, precious human being on Earth coming up to you and knocking you the heck out with an uppercut. She was like a ray of sunshine with bricks in her hands, and I adored her. Then in, if I remember correctly, the Stormblood expansion it was revealed that "Yda" was actually Lyse pretending to be her sister and everything fell apart. She started acting like a whiny, entitled brat. Yeah, she was now a monk and resistance leader, but her negative and moody personality change left a bad taste in my mouth. I much preferred Lyse when she was Yda.

Not so much a character that was *ruined* per-say but a character that on second and third readings after I had grown up and expanded my horizons I discovered was actually really bad. Both writing wise and morally. It's however a super easy punt to kick a fanfic character.


But it's honestly insane how among fans of the Fallout Equestria sub-fandon of the bronies that Blackjack from Project Horizons is the second place favorite main character. More so given how obviously abusive she is written. But no one acknowledged this fact, neither does the author. But one of the lows is despite a big character development moment being she apologizing to and promising to never sexually assault one of her companions after his suicide attampt, she basically sexually assaults him the very next week.

And at the end of the story he sacrifices himself!

Not to mention she also cajoules her romantic partner into being bisexual because she never has to come to terms with her infidelity in a real way and every attempt to do so is literally written as a joke

Won't name the character but a girl who played her had a crush on my brother and got SUPER weird about it because she was jealous? Of my relationship with my BROTHER? Major creep.

Went over to a friend's. Her lil bro was watching Thor Love and Thunder and I hadn't seen it yet so like I watched with him. Lil bro loved it. I'm like... Yeah no. So much potential for AGuardians of the galaxy. But no. Thor was reduced to a caricature of himself. Basically a buffoon. Thanks marvel. Thanks.

And can we never ever see or HEAR those screaming goats ever again. Please. Tysm. Yuck.

I wouldn’t say ruined, but I have a hard time seeing the Vigilante from Pizza Tower the same as I once did.

I accidentally got an ex friend into the pizza tower fandom. She became attached with Vigil and Peppino (more so Vigil)

We did pizza tower romance role plays a lot, but She was unhealthily, obsessed with romanticizing the cowboy cheese slime.

One time having me role play vigil (when I wasn’t very good at role playing him) just so she could have the romance.
