I defo prefer Original worlds over canon | fandoms. Like I can appreciate how hard it is to build up that world into a realized AND playable vision. Feels less constraining that falling into an established order of following what came before. Its also a nice challenge to make charries in an original world too.
I get the fandom part though and the wish fulfillment experience. But now that I'm older I prefer AU fandoms WITHOUT the CCs as playable from that particular world. Cuz like there is something about making a CS for a canon charrie that irritates me to no end that or watching rpers fangirl or fanboi over each other stating how 'authentic' they playing the CC. Soooo yeah like I prefer the 'based on a true story and real names are changed' kinda vibe. Basically reskinning the whole damned thing makes me happy really.
K so like the best thing about fandoms is that erybody has a working knowledge of the conceits and constraints of the setting. So if the RPers 'get' the world to start the less explaining to do unlike in a Original world.
And in the same breath Imma say that like the thing about original worlds that kills me is the bloody textbooks of lore. Bruh and so help me if your CS is huge and justified cuz the amount of lore your wrote. I came to RP not study for finals. If your sections can't be summarized by a paragraph you doin to much. I get you need lists and rules of how things work world wise but my gosh I can count on 1 hand the amount of RPs I been in with like gratuitous lore porn lasted for more than 100 posts. That and ya girl is a lazy reader lol
That said I do like lore cuz it keeps erybody in check. BUT please. Concise and bite size or just pick out relevant sections and link to the textbook as optional reading when you bored. Oh but big time bonus if like the GM is willing to expand and shape their world with player input.
