How we got here:​

The government had hidden away Werewolves for a milenia before they realized that you could create something from their DNA. Through multiple experiments, we finally got what officially the government call "Lycans", the hybrids of werewolf and dogs, other wise known also as dog-shifters. As werewolves are under strict government scrutiny, there are no werewolves that are owned by civilians. On the other hand, Lycans have become astronomically popular with the general public. The novelty of being able to have a dog that could also change into human form has helped many groups with disabilities, as well as taken center stage within the celebrity community with how expensive certain breeds of Lycans can be created and how rare they can be as well. The reasons why people have them range from anywhere in between, but the government has placed strict regulations so as to not make previous mistakes.

People and Lycans:​

There are some people who are allergic to Lycans, much like allergies to dogs, with that in mind many businesses and public places have forbidden Lycans from entering UNLESS they are a therapy dog, in which case there are Licenses to which the owner and Lycan must carry on them at all times in order to prove the need. This rule applies to those without obvious disabilities such as wheel chairs and blindness. Lycans can be visibly different than the public through their Lycan proof collars, which must be worn at all times while within public eye, at home and within certain guidelines they can be taken off but only by humans. The collar is made up of a combination of silver, alkaline, and a few trace other metals which can send a small shock to the system of a lycan. Along with this safety feature, all Lycans MUST be neutered or spayed by the time they are 8 weeks old, meaning only government appointed breeders can have lycans with intact reproductive organs as well as purchasing from breeders must be through the government, making majority of the purchase a way to increase the national budget. Romances have been known to form between a lycan and a human, but those are usually short lived on account that lycans grow in dog years, where they are fully grown at the human age of 4 or 5 depending on the breed, as well as reaching old age and death anywhere from 10-20 again depending on the breed. When polled recently about how to treat Lycans, the split is about 50-50 to treating lycans as if they were dogs, and treating lycans as if they were human. Many people fall inbetween, and at each end of the spectrum, so the government has not regulated these opinions, thankfully.

What can Lycans do?:​

Lycans are able to change from a human form, to a dog form. Their breed of course depicting their colors, but when in human form they tend to choose their own clothing style. While in human form they can understand each other as well as their human counterparts language, as well as any other language they have been taught by their owner, they can not understand animals. While in dog form, lycans can understand each other, and other animals, along with the body language and pheromones humans secrete but otherwise the words are lost to their doggy minds. Other than this some Lycans have adapted a small supernatural trait from their werewolf ancestors such as an ear piercing howl, the ability to lick a wound and heal it in less time, or even supernatural dark vision.

Anything else?​

Scientists have tried to make werecats from the werewolf DNA, but these werecats are very unstable, and most scientists have decided to quit the project since they feel the public "wouldn't like a moody teenager 24/7 in their house, they want a companion."
