Celestine Oceania

As the tour went along, the syphid followed quietly, looking disinterested. Despite the expression on her face though, her ears took in every word the tour guide had to say. She took everything she was told, saw, and read with a grain of salt, but she had to admit land dwellers were at least competent storytellers. She preferred hearing the tales over the prattle of her 'companions' as well.

It wasn't long before their historical tour turned into a spelunking trip and the group ended up underground standing next to some tall rod that was believed to be the bone of a giant. She was about to scoff and speak for the first time since before their tour started to point out that it was made out of metal and most likely a misidentified part of a machine as opposed to a bone, but the sound of a rumbling stopped her. Her eyes shifted around the cavern as she tried to discover the source. She imagined it would be something even filthier than the land dwellers, seeing as it would most likely live in the land.

Although Celestine was getting really tired of being on land, she didn't consider ending up in the air an improvement. When she felt water breaking her fall though, the syphid princess wondered if she had died upon impact and gone to watery Heaven. When she resurfaced and heard Ayana's voice calling out for them though, it became apparent that that wasn't the case. Upon seeing Calcius step out of the body of water, seemingly dazed and confused and then pass out, she looked to see if any of her companions were around. The sounds of other things climbing out of the water made her wonder if they were any of the others who she was traveling with, but seeing as the group had more than that, she dove back down in order to try and find anyone else who was still submerged. A large rock breaking the water's surface nearby startled the princess, leading to her speeding up her search, lest they all be buried.

Gwendolyn followed behind the old guide down the slick staircase into a torch-lit room. She looked at the large bone held by a beautifully carved podium and stared in awe. Her eyes gleamed with excitement and her smile grew. She took a couple of steps forward, getting a better look at the details and remarkable craftsmanship in the stone and the bone itself. She remembered reading that this bone is from Rashem himself. Preserved for ages after his final battle. Turning back to the group in awe, hoping to see that they were as fascinated as she was, her brows furrowed in confusion when she felt a low rumble beneath her. Looking to her feet as the vibrations grew stronger along with the faint sound of stone breaking, a crack split through the room with a deafening boom. With the rip quickly growing larger, she rushed to Calicus before the ground swallowed them whole.

Plunging deep into dark waters below, Gwendolyn gasped for air once she surfaced. She coughed up the foul-tasting water and quickly scanned the area. The distant light from the torches above gave little sight but enough for the mage to make out dark figures around her. Heavy stones fell around them, creating giant waves in the bone-chilling water. Gwen began swimming towards the sound of Calicus’ voice but a stone had fallen behind her, hitting her legs and dragging her under. Water colder than ice filled her lungs and she reached for the surface. She managed to get her head above water and coughed the liquid from her lungs. Pain shot through her right leg and she let out an exasperated groan. Biting her lip to ignore the pain, she cast a Lumen spell. Welcoming the bright light as it filled the cavern, she spotted Calicus on a nearby shore. She scanned the area but didn’t see any of her companions. She swam to the shore, avoiding the falling boulders as their numbers rapidly increased. Dragging herself onto the rocks, she rested for a moment to gain her composure.

She made her way to Calicus’ side and accessed his injuries. “Lorrin! Celestine! Anyone!” She yelled over the crashing of rocks into the water. Turning back to the guide, she began casting a healing spell on him. “Whoever is up there, are you safe?” She yelled, darting her eyes between the dark water and the falling rocks. She prayed to the gods that her companions her alive. As rocks began falling faster, Gwen scanned the cavern looking for an escape. They were trapped and her fear grew, causing her hands to shake. Taking a deep breath she looked up, towards the gaping hole they fell through “Obsidian! Make us a path! Please!” Her voice cracked on her last word as she hoped the golem hadn't fallen into this watery grave.

After the rather boring but came to be an interesting bit on the stone the tour would continue with Lorrin being slightly more interested in what's being said. But his mind is still being fixed on the stone and the researcher who is studying it, quite a few questions he hopes to be able to ask about it. But for now there going down into an underground passage that looks rather old but well kept with the only real problem about it being the stone steps are easy to trip on. Inside the cave showcased a rather large bone and if the story is to be believed, then it's a preserved giant's bone something that feels unlikely, but at the same time, he can't quite deny if it's false or not.

Before Lorrin could ask any questions the ground would cave in throwing him and a few others into the deaths of some sort of watery grave. Losing consciousness for a few minutes Lorrin would wake to the feeling of cold dark dirty water with nothing but the watery sound of human? voices? above him. Already feeling what little air he has left leave his body, he would make an attempt at swimming out only to feel a sharp down around his leg. Looking towards it, it was caught underneath some ruble that fell with him. Grabbing onto the stone he tried to plush but the heaviness was too much on his own and now time is running out.

On her way down, Celestine caught sight of Gwen in the murky waters. It looked as if she had been dragged down by a rock but had avoided being pinned down by it and was now able to swim to the surface. She would have helped her get to air quicker and even get to land, but her eyes fell on the movement of another figure deeper down. She allowed the other woman to resurface on her own and instead swam deeper to approach it. Light started to radiate from above and filtered down into the water, leading the princess to assume one of her companions had cast a lumen spell as well as illuminating the movement she was swimming towards. With the light shining down, Celestine was able to tell the figure that had caught her eye was, as she suspected, indeed one of her companions.

As she swam closer to the moss headed man, she noticed the rubble that had caught his foot. Thanks to her gills, she was able to exert her full strength on it without losing any oxygen, and with the help from Lorrin was able to move the large rock that trapped his leg. Once he was free, she swam behind him and hooked her arms underneath his, holding onto the man's shoulders as kicked her legs to bring them to the water's surface.

With the lumen spell now illuminating the cave, she was able to see Gwen on a nearby shore with Calcius, presumably healing the man who had fallen unconscious. If Lorrin was conscious and able to swim on his own, she would let him make his own way to shore. If not, she would move to wrap one arm around his waist and throw one of his arms over her shoulders, moving them to shore with her free arm and legs. She tried her best to watch for the falling rocks coming from above and navigate around them, but sadly the magical light wasn't strong enough to reach the the cavern's top.

Thankfully, she was able to make it to land with Gwen and Calcius and in one piece. If she had brought the moss headed man with her, she would lay him down facing up on the shore and start doing chest compressions in the case that he was unconscious.

Kadar contained his anger when the mixblood disrespected him. He wanted to beat her down, but not here and now. Not when there was work to be done. When the group escaped he would teach her manners then, but for now he stayed calm and almost emotionless. He only showed two expressions; confusion when the boy came back brainwashed, and shock when the monster phased through steel bars.

Kadar guessed the creature was addressing him when it said "time to silence this loud one" so he spat back "Fuck you. Fuck Centosians. Fuck the church" before lowering his shoulder and ramming the damaged wall. He met strong resistance and pain coursed through his side, but the stone blocks became too unstable to stand. Soon they cracked and crumbled into unconnected rubble, revealing more prisoners in the neighboring cell.

Kadar sharply stared them down saying "Make yourselves useful" sounding venomous before threatening the unknown creature. "Its seven against one... your odds are poor. Let us out and maybe we let you live eh?" He seemed relaxed but was nervous nonetheless, because having no magic and no weapons was no bueno. He wasn't going to show weakness though, standing strong with a pugnacious glare.

Meanwhile, Tammond leaned against the wall and casually commented "Make that six against one. I'm no fighter" Then he wished everyone good luck and plopped down, knowing his combat skills were negative twenty.

Kadar cursed under his breath anyway and muttered "Damned coward" before rotating his shoulder, preparing to battle the creature. Then he looked over everyone else, measuring how strong they seemed. The winged woman and pirate sisters would probably handle themselves, but the others were a crapshoot. That meant there were at least four capable warriors here, going up against one ethereal fucker. He liked those odds.

Kadar preferred a safe escape though, making another offer before chaos erupted. "Before we start slaughtering each other, know that I can arrange payment for my freedom if you let me out of here! What say you?" His tone was relaxed but poisonous, showing disdain for whatever the abomination was. That said he was offering money, which spoke louder than any man on earth, and overshadowed his petulant manners.

Pozou, doing as he was told, put his weight where Amal indicated he should. He cringed slightly at the sound of metallic grinding, until it snapped, and the restraints practically fell off. Pozou, at being told then to hold still, wondering how she would get his off, was unnerved to see her bring out a myriad of tools, and lick a small blade. Sure, it was to...lubricate it, but the thought of it slicing into his bracelet, and possibly into him, set him full of unease. But he managed a nod, and a small, "Okay," before the Neberu got to work on him and the restraints.

Pozou attempted to stay as still as he could, watching the blade ping and shake against the bracelet. To steady himself, he closed his eyes, not wanting to imagine where the blade could end up should he move. He gulped at the mention of the blade going through him like butter, and he managed a, "Yep...I'll be mindful, alright..." He could see a brief flash behind closed eyes, feel the vibrations ripple through the metal, before it too cut it open. He hissed at the sudden warmth against his wrists, strong enough to warrant a small burn, but that was easily rectified. The bracelet clanged against the ground, and Pozou rubbed at his wrists. He nodded to Amal. "Thank you. I guess your knowledge of breaking things certainly came in handy here," he smiled.

"If you want, I can treat your--" Though, before he could even suggest looking at her wound, she used the blood to draw some sort of...hexagon on the wall, and talking about how the place was sturdy, but not sturdy enough for her.

...she wasn't thinking of busting through the wall, was she?

She wasn't, but expected someone else to. Kadar was the one to break the wall down, eventually revealing the other cell with Daisy and another, much older man, on the other side.

Pozou was about to comment on that, wondering if it was really such a good idea, when Kiel had returned...and was walking perfectly. Not a stumble nor a mistep from him, nor visible signs of pain on his face. In fact, there wasn't any visible signs of distress in him, unlike when he was dragged away some time ago. Pozou stared at Kiel, furrowing his brow at what he was saying. He sounded so oddly cheery...especially about this Dr. Cash fellow. Not only deep down in his gut, but even just looking and listening to him, something wasn't right with Kiel at all. As Kiel began to make his way off, Pozou shouted, "Hey, Kiel, wait! What's going on?! What do you mean get our friends?!"

He wasn't sure why he was asking him that. He knew he wouldn't have gotten any clarity out of him even if he did answer him.

Pozou was about to run to the jail cell bars, only, for that shadowy figure to appear in their cell, with playing cards moving in one hand. Pozou looked between Kadar and the shadowy figure, who was already trying to bribe his way out of here without so much consideration for anyone else. Unbelievable. Pozou stepped forward to, and adopted his best threatening stance, which was paltry at best, and threatened, "Stay back! Or I'll...I'll...scratch your face off! Or...whatever you have!"

Could he do that to a shadowy being?

Street, in front of the Hospital
April 20th, afternoon
BriiAngelic BriiAngelic (Helena and Ro) Taigakitt Taigakitt (Dr. Cash)
Currently imitating Vanessa Wagner's face without hair; the likeness is difficult to tell

Korina eyed the woman: though the mask disturbed her, it did not seem a weapon, so she allowed it. No other weapons seemed obvious under her long leather cloak, but she knew magic would be her sword. Those blessed to be guided by Dou’s skill, often knew to use their knowledge to harm. Helena’s defense of the group was an obvious example. Promising to keep an eye on the potential threat, she listened to Lady Dorothea explain Kie-Nielos’s injury.

With a small bow, she explained further, as Lady Sybilla had asked,

“Sir Nielos was hit with a flaming arrow. We are also concerned with preventing infection. The damage was deep.”

And that was the end of her knowledge of Kiel’s injury. He couldn’t walk--the limping thing he’d been doing did not count. And he was in pain. Those were her focuses. She knew that in the game they were playing, some information was necessary, for all stories needed sprinkles of truth, but too much information would only end the game.

Korina went first, knowing she had to check the safety, though part of her worried about where they should lead the doctor. Sir Nielos had left early with...the gloomy one to go shopping. Would he still be there? If they were implying he was in critical condition, would the strange doctor find...an issue with him up and about?

Upon clearing the doorway, she and her thoughts were cut short. The street, especially further down, was as if Kul herself walked them. The pavement had grown sharp steps when cracks split them, causing half to drop further than the other. Buildings lining the street showed damage, though none had fallen--yet. Horses attached to carts and carriages cried out in blind fear, rearing up as their attempt to flee was thwarted by their beeching harness. The crowds, which had flowed in a constant stream, all knowing their path had frothed into a whirlpool of chaos. People ran back and forth, trying to assess the damage.

How could they not have noticed the quake? Not even a tremor was apparent. Even with these soft-soled shoes on her feet, surely some vibration would have leaked through. They were right in front of the door.

She stepped past Dr. Cash quickly, assessing the damage of the hospital itself. There was none visible, though she knew the smallest crack could grow. She’d used that tactic herself. It would be safest outside. Though they could not quickly reach a clear area, to wait out whatever power the spell-gone-wrong had left in the earth, the streets were better than having danger directly above your head.

Quickly, she turned, grabbing her changes’ wrists, “Please my ladies. It is safer outside.” Her firm pull did not lead them far, a few rolls away from the buildings. She bowed with her apology, before standing in front of them, to guard against any rushing forth with injuries. Her bo staff was good at clearing space, and Korina had enough skill to keep the hits as soft as taps if need be.

She tapped her staff on the pavement around them, knowing she could stabilize a few loaves around them. Earth wanted to be still, it was similar to ice in that way. If it fought her, then she could freeze the ground beneath them. She was surprised at the magic already filling the terrain beneath them. Ah. The hospital must have strong magic to keep the area stable. It was smart, for it would be needed after a disaster. They likely would be inundated soon. Would they lose their doctor?

"Are earthquakes common here doctor?"
The ward implied so.

The man who had smashed through her wall and ordered her to fight was trying to bargain with the thing as well? Whatever. Daisy decided to take the initiative before some sort of wall blocked her in again. She picked up her long line of clothes twisted into a rope with a rock tied around it and hurled the stone at the shadow being.

"What did you do to Kiel. And don't give me any bullshit. That wasn't him talking." Daisy snarled. She supposed she'd look intimidating to some, with her bare shoulders she knew were broad and muscled, and her ruined visage had been called 'terrifying' more than once, but this shadow creature didn't seem like the type to be intimidated, and she didn't expect it to answer her in anything its mad ramblings and giggles. But it could be beaten. Everything could. Now that it was in a cell and outnumbered theoretically they had a chance, and if it fled, then she could get her wrist band off, as she noticed several others in the adjoining cell had gotten theirs removed as well. She recognized some of them from the group and knew them to be capable fighters, at least by reputation. The rock thrown, she shoved her hands into her underwear and yanked out her Sock o' Rocks, charging towards the shadow figure teeth bared, shoving past the man she didn't know that was trying to bargain with the thing. Hopefully the barrier couldn't stop all of them.

"I'm a geomancer, if anyone can get this band off of me." She barked to the others. "My powers would make escape much easier." She swung her Sock o' Rocks at the thing, angling at the things shoulder and aiming downward. This thing had a presence. She could feel it with her earth sense. Perhaps if she swung downwards, perhaps at a foot, even if it phased through it she'd still hit something. A non phased foot, perhaps. It had to keep something solid to stand on the earth. And her sock was made of magic material, technically. Maybe that would help. She hoped the others joined in, they could even use the rock she'd tied to the magical clothes as a weapon if they had a mind to.

Calicus opened his eyes, groaning when sharp pangs stemmed from his wound. The pain shocked him into consciousness but he was confused nonetheless, wondering where he was, who was around him and why he was underground. The unanswerable questions frustrated him, souring his tone when he mumbled "Who are you people?"

Then he pushed up into a seated position, wincing when his head throbbed. Even worse was the freezing water that soaked his robes, sending shivers through his body. He knew the brutal cold would cause damage over time, so he summoned a heat bubble around him with wind magic. It was a simple parlor trick for the veteran battle mage, who was more lucid without cold piercing his bones. He could even piece together vague memories, thinking them over until eureka!

He knew exactly what was going on... well not really but he knew more than nothing now. Hurray for progress!

"I was... giving you people a tour!?" Went his grand revelation, sounding unsure because running tours? Why would he run tours? He was a veteran mage who counciled Inquisitors. The resident master went to him for suggestions from time to time, along with young apprentices who wanted to learn about magic and history.

Calicus assumed he'd been hexed; driven mad by a villainous mage perhaps? He would learn more after reaching the church, and he needed to get there soon because hex enchantments were no laughing matter. But getting back wouldn't be easy. Hell he didn't even know where he was, so he proposed a deal to the tourists. "Please help me get to the church, I need to speak with the master mage immediately! If you get me there in one piece I'll pay you ten gold each!"

He slowly stood when he was done, thanking Gwen before looking up towards the hole they dropped through. It was quite a distance. Not something humans could reach without strong ropes secured to sturdy anchors. Maybe the one named Obsidian could create a way out? But there were other ways they could escape — cave tunnels to be specific. They branched away from the shoreline and were shrouded in complete darkness, making his heart thump with fear.

However, there were more problems to worry about when Lorrin was dragged from the water. He was unconscious and above him kneeled a mermaid, compressing his chest over and over. Calicus approached them with concern etched across his face, then looked down and extended his consciousness, sensing the swallowed water. "This will feel... uncomfortable" He mentioned, moving water from Lorrin's lungs and out through his nose — the process was far from pleasant. But soon a sphere of freezing water hovered above Lorrin, before suddenly splashing down on his face!

Calicus stepped back and laughed out "Morning sunshine!" He loved immature pranks, even when a serious reason was behind them. In this case the group needed to leave sooner rather than later, and a natural wakeup would take too long. Freezing water to the face would speed up the process, and give the mage a much needed reason not to frown.

Jane quickly dug her hole under the bars but stopped when she felt a presence in front of her. She looked up to see a dark figure standing in front of her. She backed away from the bars into the middle of the cell. “Jane,” Rose said, walking up to her sister. She looked at the figure and frowned, trying to figure out what this... thing was. The sisters heard a crash and looked over to see Kadar standing in front of a crumbled wall. “Oh, that works too,” Jane said, laughing a little.

They looked past and saw the other prisoners in their cell. Rose's face twisted into anger when the man jumped down the hole in the center of their cell. Coward. She huffed and turned back to the stranger in front of them. Jane stood up and gripped the knife in her hand, narrowing her eyes at the figure. Their only way out was through it. Amal attacked the figure first and Jane lunged forward, striking its side. Rose frowned, quickly accessing their situation. Looking to Kadar, she let out a sigh knowing she'd have to work with him. “Hey, big guy. Wanna show them who they're messing with?” She asked, smirking as she drew a knife from her boot.

450a9b546bc25237a27c38d219d2fbc6 (2)-2.jpgLeone sensed there was something wrong happening in town, but there was no obvious reason for concern. Maybe he was being paranoid? He assumed as much and ignored his feelings, focusing on the people around him instead.

They voted for catacombs over the sewers — no surprise there, and who could blame them? Leone understood their reasons and commented "That works for me" sounding eager for exploration. Then he looked towards the easterner and asked "Find anything interesting?"

erik-ly-peacekeeper-for-honor-illustration-assassin-knights-eriklyart-copy.jpgVaal would struggle answering through, because the ground suddenly quaked, and what came next was pure pandemonium. Leone watched townspeople run around screaming, saw homes break down and heard animals make loud farm noises. The scene was absolute chaos and he wondered"Is this an earthquake?" Feeling confused because earthquakes never happened around here. He wasn't going to hang around researching the phenomenon though, so over screaming pedestrians he shouted "We need to get out of here!"

Yo by Nona.jpgStone and Yo were in agreement.

Then Leone started north towards the graveyard, keeping his distance from buildings and dodging stone debris as he ran. His heart raced when shrapnel slammed the ground beside him, making him brush Nezumi to calm her down as much as himself. He also wondered if his bad feeling had been about the earthquake, but he sensed Gwen was endangered instead.

It seemed the universe had an issue with Vaaltari speaking. The ground shook with vibrations and the vibrations did their work on the surface. Sidewalk cracked like a blade being dragged haphazardly through it in spiralling directions.

Heeding Leone's words Vaaltari grabbed Yo and with a arm-- found he couldn't lift her as easily. He jerked up and all it did was just tug at her. She didn't even lift up an inch or centimeter. It was like trying to lift a boulder.

Yo was a bit busy freaking out about the cracks following her feet that when Vaaltari tugged on her, she almost didn’t register what he was trying to do until a good second after the fact, to which she looked back at him.

He blinked. Looked down at her where his hand had a tight grip on the back of her attire. The girl was short but she was heavy. He'd had an easier time lifting Helena than her. When the ground fractured under them, he took it as a sign to stop gawking in surprise and run.

Trading a lift for dragging her along he followed after Leone and the man they had met earlier. Behind them Stone chased nearby, avoiding things in a very feline manner- pouncing off walls and rubble that fell in front of him.

People screamed, spouts of dust flew into the air, pieces of the earth shifted and rose up suddenly making running distorted where you had to go around or jump over and unfortunately for the others, one did so directly in front of Leone as they were running forwards. A wall of earth rose up and just above them and at the same time bits of metal rained down and like fired projectiles towards the group from behind. A building groaned and sunk two feet into the earth, windows shattering and people nearby shrieking as things fell off it. Its wooden billboard losing one chain swang back and forth ominously in the groups direction and them with a loud snap, it came crashing down to the ground and rolled towards them.

GStone.jpgVaaltari's arms glowed and with swift thinking he stretched one arm and made it into a lasso that wrapped around his allies then shot his other arm out in the direction of the wall in front of them. Stone had been in the midst of hopping over a suspicious crack, so he had been caught off-guard and in mid-air by Vaaltari.

Vaaltari latched on to the top and like a slingshot shot himself up like a pulley, dragging a couple with him, a scowl on his face from the strain of all that weight on his arm. Just as he was about to lose his grip, he moved his arm holding the others with a grunt of exertion and tossed them on to the narrow footing the wall of earth had made just as his arm gave out. Everyone was released as his hand let go of a part of his arm and then like a rubber band slung back into place while he landed with a roll. Yo fretted momentarily, as she was concerned but also surprised at Vaaltari’s elasticity. Her concern stemmed from thinking he may have broken a bone.

In the same instant the circular wooden billboard slammed into the wall. Its force sliced partially in and that caused the wall to slowly, dangerously teeter forward as it broke at the bottom and tipped towards the ground with everyone on it. As it broke the solid surface also became fractured. Footing was lost, the pieces too small to stand on or two broken up to use with ease. For a second time Vaal tethered the others together with his arm, and then grabbing hold of a metal pole jutting out of a building, he swung them down low and then released him as the pain flared in his glowing arm and he lost his hold.

Leone stopped running when the wall dropped, before dashing backwards and skidding across the ground, kicking up dust. Then he mumbled an appreciative prayer and nervously looked around, realizing how close he'd been to death. The huge wall was only three meters from where he stopped. Had he been a touch faster... well sometimes being lucky was better than being good.

Losing his grip, Vaaltari lost hold of the pole and with a flip came to land at a run towards the others. His left arm pulsing with green light as he flexed the limb and checked its movement. Stone cast a sideways glance, though held his tongue as this was not the time. Vaaltari was being helpful, after all.

Leone winced, imagining himself dead before remarking "After I was born my mother did a raindance you see!" Then he smiled at Nezumi, brushed her coat and sidestepped the wall, tapping the structure with his hand. He cast force magic when he touched the stone, enough for the wall to teeter over and topple behind him, sending out a huge dust cloud. Now nobody would be crushed when the wall eventually tipped over on its own. No good deed goes unpunished though, so the booming shock reverberated through nearby buildings, casting more debris from above.

Leone looked up as shrapnel descended, showing annoyance but sounding relaxed when he said "Don't worry, just think of it as rain... hard sharp rain that can kill us but still rain!" Then he ducked, dove, dodged and cast wind magic, pushing debris away when it came close. The amount was hard to handle but soon he was safe and sound, running away once the downpour decreased.

The rest of the journey was easy — for the most part. There were a few more stones that dropped from buildings, but Leone was fast enough to get around them.

-
At some point in their running, the group lost the church man.

At a distance away the cemetery lay ahead, but the ground was still not safe as the trembles still lingered.

The cemetery was like most- a plot of land with headstones made of rock littered throughout, with an occasional wooden version deteriorating into an unreadable state. There was a single building built into a hill, its backside facing towards the church. It’s large, wooden door was ajar. Any soft earth would show footprints in the ground, though it was difficult to tell if they were recent or not.

When Leone reached the cemetery he waved everyone down, beaming "You're all in one piece!" sounding relieved on approach. Then he stopped beside them and examined the graveyard which was... well it was a graveyard without any surprises. He hoped that would change when they entered the catacombs, and eager for adventure he stepped towards the shack, shouting "Anyone home?" He was semi-serious having noted the recent footsteps.

Then he strolled through the doorway. It was cramped but the tunnel was more welcoming from there. Inside were dozens of everburn torches, running both sides of one massive tunnel with small side rooms. There were ancient coffins lining the tunnel too, not to mention stone shelves that were stocked with bleach-white human bones. Then there were the oversized cobwebs, and hundreds of ceramic urns tucked away everywhere — from the shelves to forgotten, dust covered corners where vermin scurried in the shadows.

nice.jpg Luna groaned she heard the boys heading into the basement. They’re so going to break something and I’ll have to clean it up. Standing up from the pew she brought her hand to her mouth, whistling twice. The sound waves bounced around the room, creating a layout for the blind mage. She turned towards the door leading to the basement and bit her lip. Quietly walking towards the door, she grabbed the doorframe. Her hand ran along the wall as she descended the stairs and felt the cracks and small vines dancing along the wall, telling the building's age. The trek down the stairs was long and Luna was relieved to feel solid ground. Whistling again, she saw a door in front of her with a large hole carved through it. She walked up to the door and ran her fingers along the opening and frowned. These men destroy everything. Carefully stepping through the door, she whistled once more and saw the figures of Hubyr and Sigurd in the large room. “Will this even work?” Luna asked, crossing her arms.

She felt the earth beneath them shake and slowly stepped back. Hearing the ground crack open, accompanied by the splashing of water, her breath hitched. “Hubyr? Sigurd?” Luna called once the shaking slightly subdued. She faintly heard Hubyrs voiced and crawled towards the sound, feeling the ground around her. “Where are you?” She asked before letting out a loud whistle. Scanning the hole in the ground, she spotted her companion near and made her way towards him.

The woman was eager to come with them. She wanted to be off put. She wanted to be suspicious, though she didn’t know of what. This woman was a mess of confusion. She hid a frown behind her sleeves as she raised it up in a grounding fashion resting her bend index and middle fingers to her lips. She rarely had any weapons up her sleeve in the cities, if she did then moving the wrong way they would cause discomfort. So she followed behind Roland as he hesitantly led with one hand at her hip. She fell back letting Cash out stride her by half a pace glancing at her from the corner of her eye every so often.

Luckily she was not leading because she had never once bothered to keep track of Kiel, who by all means should be on bedrest. She didn’t find it her duty to cater to a patient once they had been released. If they were idiots that was their own problem. She only checked up on Jane because she wasn’t sure of the herbs possible side effects. She did mean to record her thoughts but decided she’d rather wait til out of eyesight from Jane. If they hadn’t rushed their way over then she would have three new pages in her journal. Actually, she really should be studying Liam. He was still out like a light the last she saw of him. She wondered just what reached lethal dosages for the herb, if there was one.

    “.Hey..know...Mom?”

Shit. She’d zoned out glancing around the market. She eased up the tension in her expression and lowered her hands as she looked at Roland. He’d asked her something and she wasn’t sure just what it was. She let out a sigh as she spoke.

“Sorry darling, Mom was just thinking of something. What was the question again?”

She could read the lines of his shoulders easily at this point as he shrugged and kept walking. Oh being spunky again huh? Well it was always cute but it’s not quite how a proper lady would act. She grasped one of his loose strands of hair and stood still as he kept walking and yanked his own hair.

    “Owwww Mom!”

“Young lady, is this how we act? No? Exactly.”

She let him off easy this time. It was her fault in the first place for not listening. She walked forwards until Kuma spoke and pulled them forwards. Her eyes darted from one end to the other of the market. An earthquake? An explosion? How did they not feel anything? She turned back to the hospital. Was this common indeed… Well she found her point of suspicion.

Whale Island Tower/Autumn Road [Original Version] || Sigurd's CS File

Hubyr’s enthusiasm was a welcome trait for him. Skadi herself approved of it as well and she rarely responded to anyone well. Though he believed it may have been partially because she got to leave the church, he could already feel her eyes boring into him from behind. He ignored her for the moment vowing to give her the attention when he refueled his magic. He stepped forwards after releasing the magic on the once door. A shake gave way as he grabbed onto the left mound of twisted wood.

The sound of water was horrifying. They were underground that could only spell two things, death by drowning or being swept away from the beaten path and then drowning. He couldn’t tell where it came from until the cracks opened up further in the floor. The mound of wood snapped and he scrambled to grasp on anything else just barely grabbing the floor as he fell.

A creaking told him he wouldn’t have this patch long. Skadi was screaming a wail that echoed in his brain. He knew. He shouldn’t have come to the heathens’ church. Skadi said as much. You needed to listen to your dead.

“Hubyr… we’re going to fall. Skadi said so. Skadi can’t help when I can’t channel the magic she passes me….”

He heard someone approach and Skadi turned to them her wails slowly subsided as the footfalls came closer. He heard his name being called out and looked around desperately for another piece of earth as he heard the one he held begin to give way.

“Careful Luna! The ground collapsed. The earth is yielding and the water calls for blood.”

He forced magic to his hands trying to stabilize the earth and make it hard as a stone but it did little. The earth had nothing to strengthen it, for the moment they wouldn't fall but it wouldn't last.

Gambler.JPGThe dark figure, whose body was facing in Amalghasett’s direction, turned their head like an owl, as if there were no spine to stop from overextending their head, looking directly at Kadar, same bright smile on their lips, the brim of their hat hiding their just-as-bright eyes. “I say, fuck all them too! Except us. Actually, yes. Fuck us.” They cackled, “We like you, we do.

They moved their head back to a human normal, fingering the cards in hand. Pozou’s threat barely registered in the dark figure’s ears, but nodded as if they heard, mumbling to themselves, “Sck sck sck, claws to flesh, claws to flesh!” As they did so, the air around them seemed to be getting colder by the second. Not only that, but the sound of dripping water seemed to coincide with a set of footsteps. A footfall didn’t fall until a waterdrop did. The water drops soon sounded as if they were crashing crystals, icicles hitting the ground and shattering on stone flooring.

Ohoh~ We are going to have so much fun. Even though this loud bird tried bringing walls down on everything. Oh you should see the devastation up top! Three women are safe. They’re lucky they have Doctor Cash with them now. So lucky!

As Kadar mentioned the seven against one, the figure smiled, tilted their head. “Against one? The one I like is sure this is one? We enjoy odds that seem ever such the gamble.” It almost seemed like their smile grew wider as they turned their whole body to face Kadar, holding their hand with the cards out to them, “This speaks our language. We could take the payment, and we can also make a gamble. What say everyone? Would we like to play a game?

As the manly woman with the lack of lip snarled at the figure, they shuddered visibly, though it didn’t seem to be out of fright, “Yell at me again, Mommy!” With a dark cackle, they continued, “Kiel is fine. He is healed and off to help your friends. Thanks to the loud one, Topside is in a havoc. No matter though. This just means we expedite our plans.” A crash could be heard echoing through the tunnel, though it seemed to be more than one separate occasion.

When they were charged at by Daisy, they hopped up. Though, they didn’t come down. Instead, they clung to the ceiling and looked down at them wickedly. “We can avoid violence. Games, yes? Games instead? We can make the odds more favorable. Every time one of yous wins a round, we remove the bracelet!

Something seemed to catch their mind as they fell silent a moment, though they were probably still eerie in the fact that they were clung to a ceiling and still staring down at everyone.

~*~

Doctor.jpgDoctor Cash followed outside the hospital building, their face serene despite the chaos starting to ensue around them. She had done something to keep the hospital from going down, but as she left the building, it seemed to shudder.

No. Something happened underground to weaken the sewers. It is said the Abyss reaches closer to this town than many other places. I have protected us from the building collapsing on us, but I can’t reach the whole town.” Despite the gravitas of the situation, she seemed rather keen on just following the girls, her face never breaking the smooth expression she wore before her gaze seemed to not actually take in their surroundings.

She mumbled very quietly, “We get started? Mmkay~

Bringing her expression back to reality, she smiled at the three women, “Feel free to follow me, but I must really be quick on my way. Many are in need after this shake, and your cousin may be involved.

With that, she threw her mask on her face, and as she did so, it seemed like the eye covers flashed white before she took off running towards the church.

Hubyr

Hubyr.jpgHubyr finally pulled himself up out of falling danger. Just as he had, his eyes caught sight of Luna. He facepalmed, dragging his roughed up hand down his face, “Great! Someone we need to look out for, as if this wasn’t precarious enough.” A blind human wasn’t someone Hubyr could see as helpful, even if she did seem to get around fairly well the past couple weeks.

Sigurd’s comment about the water calling for blood had Hubyr running his hand through his luxurious locks of hair, “Yeah. It almost got elf blood. I don’t intend to die underground. I would prefer a tusk or beast’s teeth to be my downfall.” To emphasise his point, he clawed his hand across his gut.

Looking around, he noted that the other wall wasn’t collapsed in on. “That way might be safest.” He walked over to Luna, attempting to scoop her up into his arms, aiming to carry her princess style, whether she wished for it or not. “Don’t object. This is easiest if we’re going to traverse underground.

Glancing back to Sigurd before venturing forth, as he assumed the man would follow, “Thanks for the help with that little bit of stabilization. Tell Skadi to stop scaring you. We’re still alive, aren’t we?” He was used to Sigurd at this point talking about some imaginary woman.

The Apprentice ( Jet Jet ) Elizabeth ( Anne Boolean Anne Boolean )
    ~ The Church ~
    Discouraged

The church was barred from the insides, he made sure that there were no wards left down. Fortunately the structure was quite sizable, after all he’d had his own little sanctuary found in the upper floors. A few that couldn’t afford the inns would come and borrow beds in the communal rooms. His apprentices and himself also had rooms in the upper floors, though they had plenty of those sharing the rooms temporarily as the church became a bunker. He wished he could do more for those stuck inside but this was all he could do safely. They may not be happy but they were alive.

He sighed as he returned his focus back to the task at hand. His lovely apprentice has been injured due to their own hotheadedness. He smirked as his magic knit back together the cuts and wounds. Healing was as natural as breathing to the elder man. His apprentice lay out on the bed still just as impenitent as always.

“You know, eventually you must learn to have more caution. Doing things this way may not be fun but it is necessary. If there was another way I’d have set it in motion already. My dear Lovely Apprentice, will you be listening this time or should I simply stop here and let you heal the rest naturally?”

His voice was even with a wave of affection in it. He’d never leave any of his apprentices in pain and it was the emptiest threat he’d ever said. Even as he finished up the healing his smirk wouldn’t leave. Ah to be young and reckless again. He understood their frustrations but he also wished to see them live to see tomorrow. Especially if they wished to replace him as they were meant to.

“Eliza, dearest the young do lack faith in their elders now don’t they?”

He felt the worst for Elizabeth, his longtime love, who had done nothing but come to help him pick his successor and gotten caught in the crossfire. He couldn’t help but feel that his brood would still need his guidance even as he stepped down if this was their response. He started to chuckle before he stopped abruptly as he felt one of his lower wards pierced from the inside.

He let the ward go, it was a bigger hassle to keep it up than to fix it after it fell. He needed to focus on the threat from the outside, not so much the impatient children within. He strengthened the ward as much as he could from his position, no he couldn’t do much from here.

“The lower ward’s been pierced. The poor guards must have been too tired. I knew we were stretching our guards thin… Little Apprentice get better, it seems we’ll need to go chasing some down after all.”

nice.jpg Luna frowned at Hubyrs comment about having to look out for her, making it sound like a chore. “I’m not the one who wanted to come down here in the first place. I can still see without my eyes.” She said, crossing her arms. If she could, she would be glaring at the elf. The earth continued to shake around them causing stones to fall into the water below them, sending the sound of splashing waves through the room. The sound waves bounced off the walls, continuing to give Luna a vague layout of her surroundings. Sigurd’s call caught her attention and she looked towards the sound of his voice. She began crawling towards him to help him climb out of the hole but was picked up by Hubyr.

Hubyr! I can walk just fine.” She said, pushing against his bare chest, attempting to escape his grasp. Her struggle against the man was useless and she let out a small groan before wrapping her arms around his neck. She leaned her head on his shoulder and sighed. “I’m sorry for coming down here. I just didn’t want you two to escape without me.” Listening as they walked through a tunnel, she heard the distant rumbling in the town and screams of the residents. Biting her lip, she tightened her grip on Hubyr.

As the ground stabilized he vaulted himself up with a great deal of effort. Skadi’s placated calm wouldn’t last long. He moved forwards as he watched the earth he was holding break and fall into the rapids. He felt queasy, but that’s what he gets for not accepting Skadi’s warning. He let his eyes gloss over as he summoned the magic inside him to feel the earth. It shifted under his feet feeling thick like swamp water. He shook it off. They needed to move.

“If you wish to die to a boar we should get going. The tunnel isn't much better than the collapsed floor right now.”

He shuffled himself behind the two and rounded them forwards keeping an eye on the floor. They walked to the wall that hadn’t collapsed yet and he kept walking. He didn’t much agree with the safety of the smaller man carrying Luna but he didn’t say anything instead he just kept watch. He was a bodyguard, he would guard.

“Skadi has never scared me once, she guides my magic and my steps.”

He was shocked to hear Luna’s reasoning. He half expected her to try to convince them back. Escape with them? Had she expressed this before? Skadi screeched in the background. Oh right Skadi didn’t much like Luna or any of the others kept inside with him.

    “Ow Skadi…”

He waited for her screeches to calm down before he looked back to Luna, who seemed to rapidly accept being carried by Hubyr. They were cute. Both of them were enjoyable companions but something told him this journey wouldn’t be. He slid his hand across the wall as the moved ready to grab on to anything should the floor give way again.

“Why didn’t you want us to escape without you Luna? Do you have plans to leave too? I imagined that your church wouldn’t like that.”

Ayana embraced the warm hug, holding the northerner close and breathing deep to release her tension. Then she brushed away misting tears and peered into the darkness again, praying someone would answer. But there was only silence. Her eyes dimmed as seconds passed without a peep. The only sound she heard was her heart pounding, speeding up when she imagined the worst case scenario over and over again. But then voices suddenly echoed from below!

"Thank the mother!" Ayana almost shouted, beaming wide and brushing her hair back. Then she looked up and spoke again, showing deep appreciation to Freya. "Words can't express my many thanks... you mean more to me than you know." Her understated tone was honest and emotional, showing respect that approached admiration.

Then she stood and stepped from the embrace, nodding when Obsidian spoke. Apparently the cavern floor exceeded her range, meaning a long rope was needed to rescue the trapped people. Ayana was useless in that respect though. Her gear was simple and revolved around archery more than anything. The only "ropes" she carried were extra bowstrings, not something she could use for cave rescues.

Ayana hated feeling useless, narrowing her eyes and crossing her arms when explaining the problem. "I have nothing that can reach them. Even my mightiest spells can't extend that deep. But there must be something we can do! Maybe we can make a rope from tree roots?" At least her nervous depression was gone, replaced by steeled determination — a determination that flowed through her when shouting into the darkness again.

"WE CAN'T REACH YOU BUT WE'RE WORKING ON A PLAN! DO YOU SEE ANY WAY OUT DOWN THERE? SHOULD WE GET HELP FROM THE TOWN?" Her voice echoed through the cavern, reaching the trapped people a moment later. Meanwhile, she sharpened her gaze and looked around for usable roots, leaping between stone blocks as she surveyed the room.

Games? This thing wanted to play games? Daisy shared an incredulous look with the man who had smashed the wall between her cell and his, and then glared up at the creature. While she did, she put her braceleted hand behind her back. She hoped one of the others had heard what she'd said, and would take it off for her, however they'd managed to do that to the other bracelets.
"What kind of game? And you've told us what happens if we win, but what happens if we lose?"
She didn't particularly want to play any games, but the longer this thing spoke the more time the group had to figure something out. And if they terms were agreeable, maybe Daisy would even play. She doubted they would be, and even if they were she wasn't sure she'd trust this creature. It seemed almost childish. She didn't doubt its honest desire to play a game, but if it lost would it keep its word or throw a temper tantrum?

"I think that we shouldn't need to play a game here as our freedom wasn't yours to take. If, as you say, you were only trying to help us, I thank you for that aid but would like to opt out and make my own way. I've done it before and can do it again." She almost looked back at the others, but didn't want to draw attention to them in case one of them was working on her bracelet. She tried to stare into this things face, keep its gaze fixed on her.
"And I think my companions feel similarly, though they can speak for themselves. For my part, I'm in no peril from the Inquisitors or the church. While not affiliated with them, my family name is known to them. They don't bother the Rosenbloom family in the course of our work." She didn't know if this was strictly true anymore, thanks to her affiliation with the others, but it was true in the past. She didn't see why that would change. The church hadn't seen her with the group during the fight in Whaleshell Port. She hadn't even known what was going on until they'd left the city.

The truth of it wasn't terribly important though. She doubted this thing was going to simply let them go, no matter how truthful or well crafted the argument. Maybe they would have to play a game. If it was a physical contest they looked to be in good shape. The other occupants of the cell seemed versed in physical combat, if the way the woman had drawn a knife from her boot was any indication.

Vaaltari of Jata

Upon seeing Leone secured Vaaltari sighed. It was a sigh of relief even if he himself did not say anything afterwards. The party unites, minus the stranger who he presumed may have just fled from the group in the chaos was no real concern of Leone's. The fact they had reached the cemetery reminded Vaaltari just what he was about to inform the others.

"There is an entry to the church somewhere within here. The light however," his voice trailed off as he became thoughtful. "I do not believe it will be easy for me to see it given our location. Perhaps--" but the rest never came. A faint voice reached his ears, possibly even the others and for a moment Vaaltari froze in place as if he had caught something rather surprising. His head turned slowly to the left, then the right as if he were scanning. And then without question, he took off down the path and made a right.

"That voice" was his hasty remark as he took off after the echoes, trying to trace the source, "I know that voice from somewhere." Slipping a hand over his dagger and unsheathing it he moved in preparation. Whatever that voice was, he was certain of it. One of the inquisitors. It had to be. He recognized that odd scream anywhere.

Obsidian shook. It was as if a shout had echoed through the earth and into her. She opened her eyes, unaware of when she closed them, to half their group was gone. Gone. She had failed. She was supposed to protect them. Instead, she had once again lost her focus to the sensation of the earth around her. As she berated herself, she could hear in the background Ayana’s pleas. It was only at Gwendolyn’s shout of her name that she snapped out of it. They were alive.

She dug her nails into her arm, hard enough to bruise. Even if they weren’t, she needed to keep Ayana and Freya alive. Scratching around her arm, as if in punishment, she began to move. Dropping to her knees, she laid her palms flat against the rough surface. There, she closed her eyes, stretching her powers as far as she could. “My powers do not reach them; they are so far,” she murmured under her breath, shaking her head. Still, she did not move from the ground, instead solidified the cracks beneath them. The earth preferred to be settled, stable. The difficult part was to keep the ground beneath them still. It was nothing for the earth to drop a few rolls down, but she knew the effects on those above, so small and insignificant to the earth, were more drastic.

With that done, she stood. Ayana’s voice echoed throughout the cavern, but Obsidian’s reinforcements held. She walked to the edge, looking down into the darkness below. “There likely was a cavern below us.” Laying flat on the ground, she let her head and shoulders hang over the ledge. Within a moment, she could see handholds. Yes, that should work. “You two stay here. It should remain stable. If you are concerned at any point, go through the trapdoor outside. Cave-ins are no joke.” Her voice was firm, recalling the strictness of old teachers, who you would be best not to disappoint. She kind of wanted them to go above ground anyway. “I am going to climb down as far as I can, to get a better look.” Standing once more, she summoned rock to cover her hands and feet. They would be able to adhere to the cliffside, keeping her from falling. Her mind raced with ideas to reach the others. She could surely jump, but she could not fly back up. Perhaps she could form a tower or pole, letting it grow beneath her. Would she have enough magic to conjure that? Or would she have to risk taking stone from around them? These questions couldn’t be answered without a clearer look. But first, she called out, cupping her hands around her mouth, “Is anyone hurt?” If there were those beyond Gwendolyn’s magic, then...what could they do?

She did this? Korina eyed the doctor. If she knew it was happening, then why would she not send more of her fellows to triage and assist the injured? Why calmly hold the door open? Why--And there the mask goes on. It was even creepier than she imagined. It was as if it adhered to her face, the light catching the glass eyes and making them seem as if they were turning on.

Kuma assumed the Abyss was the same as the Rift. Why would this town be a tourist destination if it had these types of problems? Humans were stupid, but surely death was a good enough teacher. As she expected, they were losing their doctor, but instead of running to those injured, she appeared to be heading toward the church. Did she know the pandemonium there? Or was it merely the central location to coordinate disasters. Though again, wouldn’t she need the rest of her hospital?

Kuma could feel the fear racing through Nezumi. The little rat huddled under Leone’s shirt, hiding as the chaos of Kul descended upon them. Her respect raised for Leone, as she felt him reassure her bonded, never seeming to forget her as they fled for safety. She turned to look at the pair, still appearing as true nobles. “There is a lot of Kul--chaos around the church. It was hit more than this area. Much more.” She wanted to run there. She wanted to reach Nezumi, allow her to hide within her, and leave this place. For a brief moment, she was overwhelmed with the desire to be home. It passed, as did her need to reach Nezumi. The little rat’s heart was slowing, as the safety of the catacombs registered.

“Those of us who were...near the church are all well.” She did not know if Helena understood her connection with Nezumi--and she wasn’t currently elaborating--but she would provide the information. “Would you like to follow her?” Nezumi was safe, so Kuma would listen to their ideas, instead of hurrying to her.

Thanks to the help of Celestine, Lorrin was able to make it out of the cold murky water without drowning. On their way out he briefly passed out from the exhaustion of having to move away the rocks that captured his foot. Even with the help of Celestine, it was a difficult task that he had never done before and not something he would want to do again anytime soon. Lorrin would wake a few moments later to the feeling of pressure on his chest and then the very uncomfortable feeling of water moving through his body out his nose and then shot straight at his face. Immediately sitting straight up and coughing up anything that went into his mouth. He looked over at their tour guide with a rather annoyed look on his face not finding any amusement out of the situation. Rising up from the ground and would help Celestine to her feet if she allowed it, he would wipe away the remaining water from his face and looks over at his rescuers with a nod and simply says "Thinks I owe you a debt." This was mostly directed at Celestine thou. Hearing the voice of Ayana shout down to them a moment later set Lorrin in his thinking mood. There wasn't a lot around them that can be used to climb back up and even Obsidian's ability cant reach them it doesn't leave them with a lot of options on how to escape. They could perhaps explore the cavern for hopes that it can lead to an exit but by the looks of it, it's mostly filled with freezing water that only one of the party members could swim in for a long period of time. And even then how far out does it go. "If you can go out and pick up a bunch of rope and tie it together and throw it down we should be fine until then!" He shouted up towards the above-ground group.
