Like alot of people keep trying to get across, we are joining with a larger older rp group, to keep it as the wayward inn and completely ignore them would pretty much defeat the purpose of the merger.


Im Game for the Pattern Spiders Inn


Or The Inn of the Pattern Spider.

or The Cross Roads


The Either


The Elysium
 
Well it at least makes it easier that we own both sites, and they did not have a staff. So the merger will be smooth less since its just us.
 
That don't change the point that TheWaywardInn is allot more utilitarian than the lore specific naming of the other site has. Wayward Inn can encompass many things while PattenSpider and any name merging bits are lore specified, as for names not relating to either sites current name it destroys previously identifiable parts of the sites identity.
 
Pattern Spider is not unable to keep their name due to the fact that we won't be a pure exalted site, they understand this and are backing us up completely in the name.
 
I rather like The Nexus. A gathering point, a place of meeting, an important crossroads and a subtle reference to Exalted Lore while not being setting-specific.
 
I don't think it can be nexus as that's a name of a well known modding site. I think it should be the White Wolf Inn :D pretty sweet name if I do say so myself. Or just keep the Wayward inn name, that's fine too.
 
In my opinion, (if the name has to change) the name should be 'equal' - I don't care how large or old the other site is, there should be an equal amount of Wayward Inn and White Wolf/Pattern Spider/whatever in there. :P Wayward Haven!!
 
Having browsed this thread I must say everyone here has a point to some point, and the same can assuredly be said for the other side. You must, however, keep some things clear. This is a merge. While one community may be older and more venerated than the other, in order to secure a stable future both sides should be equal partners. We are not simply merging forum threads here - we're merging people, and all their thoughts and ideas. If we are to become one, we must first regard ourselves as such. Both communities are fond of their own names. I myself am not a senior member here, but even my initial thought was to preserve the Wayward Inn. But there is little sense or fairness in that.


So there are only two real options here that can lead to a lasting merge of these two remarkable communities. One is to combine the two names, like many have suggested already, and the other to make up a new name.


Wayward Wolf


I readily admit it is not the most objective of suggestions, considering who is suggesting it (>.<). However, it has no less than five advantages, of which none can be disputed.


- it looks and sounds awesome


- both words start with a W


- short and memorable


- the concept itself of a wayward wolf and the image, the symbol and everything it can stand for is awesome beyond the usage of the word, it can represent any and all aspects of roleplaying


- it merges together the term wayward, which is an awesome word in general for all it stands for, and the term wolf which does have plenty to do with our sister community


- it has a wolf in it


I have other ideas, of course, but I think I'll just let this one sink in. If you organized a voting that includes members from both sides, this would be well accepted. I'm sure.
 
There should be a poll, with some of the (better & equal) new name suggestions.. At least then the name switch would be fair, as everyone would get to vote! :eek:
 
As much as I am for this "equality" stuff, I should remind you guys of when Kathoran merged with Wayward, giving this site members like Seer, VonRidel, Kiminaru, and myself. When that had happened, the merge was completely and totally to Wayward Inn. And I've yet to complain about it. Now, I know Kathoran was only a month or so old at the time of the merge, and the net increase of roleplayers was only 5 or so (about 12, counting in all who registered), but it's still the same equivalent as what's occurring with Pattern Spider. We're merging with them, and we happen to be very tiny in comparison.


Personally, I'm up for ditching both Wayward Inn and Pattern Spider, and looking for a new identity. The logic behind it is a purely psychological one. If we maintained both names in the new name, it would suggest that we have to be Wayward Inn with an Exalted focus, or something like that. It also will eventually lead to dividing of camps, reminding us of who are the Wayward fellows and who are the Pattern guys. A new name forces both sides to bend and accept a new identity, making to new forms of relationship. I know it's hard to drop the name of Wayward Inn, and for them the name of Pattern Spider, but the psychological reasoning is there.


We should also remember that this, unlike the merge/assimilating of Kathoran, is a complete merging of Wayward Inn and Pattern Spider. If I read what Wiz is saying correctly, we will be abandoning this site to move to a new location. Along with us will be a mass of other roleplayers from Pattern Spider. So, in conjunction with that, I suggest that we first figure out some name ideas, preferably with neither name in them, and then send some of us over to Pattern Spider to figure out what names they had decided upon. We then keep working on it, constantly discussing with Pattern, until both sites come to a name everyone likes.


This is my suggestion.

In a week or two we will be setting up polls with suggestions we like and our own suggestions, I've got some good ones :P

I don't know if Abandoned is the right word, speaking all your posts, forums, threads and accounts will remain the same. Its more like the two places are being put together but it needs a new name. The sites and community are literally merging, not as they were with Kathoran and the Wayward Inn.
 
Well for a while back, you owned Colo, what were you going to rename it if the Inn and Colo ever merged?
 
Mind's Eye Inn? We keep the 'Inn' theme but that's definitely something White Wolf/World of Darkness.

It's a new name, and it holds something dear to both parties. I'll post more suggestions soon if I feel like it.

White Wolf has nothing to do with patternspider, its just the company that made the game.
 
i dont know if its true but the people over at the pattern spider hold exiled to a higher regard than people at this site do (i dont know, im not too active anymore) and they have a different perspective than we do and the respect they hold for exiled shows in their name suggestions, i think it would be easiest if everyone were to gather and mass vote on a new name

What do you mean they hold it to a higher regard???


Anyways, the new site will not just be Exiled, and we can't advertise, what ever the merged site will be, as an Exiled Heaven. We need to come up with a brand or a name that is a bit universal. The title 'Inn' is vary ambiguous. But were looking for more, and a massive vote would be better in the end, but we want as much of a voice, abit smaller then Pattern Spider, our opinion is the no less important.
 
I think its , World of Darkness, Exalted, and a few other ones that are tied together with each other.
