Realistic or Modern We who Embody Fiction character sheets

Real life is not a story, people can't be put into cliches or boxes that so perfectly describe them that you can say 'he is x' or 'she is y'. But for a certain group of people the world has decided those rules simply do not apply. One day they wake up and find the people around them have begun to act as if a certain trait is their identity. The Popular Girl can sway people with a suggestion and a flirty laugh, the Nerd receives awards and always gets the right answers and the Loner is avoided except for the odd glance of some classmates.

This is known as an Embodiment, when the world itself puts a person into a certain box and everyone around them accepts them as such, a blessing or curse depending on the exact Embodiment. However this power comes with a certain other ability, the power to craft Stories. Within certain limits a person can use their Embodiment to craft a Story that will change the world around them in a small way. Need to ace the exam in the morning? Have a heart to heart with a smart classmate after screwing around with them around for a bit and hit the books, and suddenly you are flying through the test the next day. Or maybe you set some music and hit the gym in order to get in shape after a week of pigging out, only to win the big trophy the next day. A story can be as small or large as needed, but the more complicated the story becomes the easier it is to lose the flow and for something unexpected to happen.

Your character is just grasping how their ability works, as most Embodiments only awaken to this ability around thirteen or fourteen. However they are pulled into a story by a letter arriving and inviting them to a prestigious academy, along with a note just for them.

For those who the world has decided to label, come to my school and make a story worthy of your gift

Even if attempts are made to avoid it the 'story' crafted by this letter becomes like a black hole, pulling them in despite any attempt to escape. So the only question left is how will they make the story their own?

Example Character Sheet

  • Name- Nikolai Maxis

  • Age- 41

  • Gender- Male

  • Embodiment- Headmaster of a Famous School

  • Embodiment Effect- This ability gives off an aura of wisdom and strength of character to all who interact with him, while having the added effect of being able to do almost any event within the school and getting most of the student body to interact with it in some way. This ranges from school festivals to mass water balloon fights. It also gives him the ability to modify an ongoing 'Story' so long as it has relation to the school. Due to experience this Embodiment usually trumps the ability of a students for most needed purposes.

  • Backstory- Nikolai lived a rather average life for one of the those who possess an Embodiment, because due to its nature no particular story could be crafted around him by the world until after university. The moment he graduated he was caught up in a certain event that lead to him being offered the possession of headmaster over a newly formed boarding school, a fate he had no interest in. Yet despite this his life was pulled toward the academy until he had no choice but to take the possession. He had long ago realized his own ability and despite the many ways he could misuse it he mostly just has some fun with it while keeping a certain level of sanity to the odd school he runs. Best described as friendly and wise by most students Nikolai is by no means a push over, and even if his particularly ability doesn't effect others with the power of Embodiment his 'Story' crafting abilities far exceed his new students and has no qualms about stepping in should a situation get out of control. His goals and desires are largely unknown.

  • Appearance [1]

  • Name:
    Kawaiiko Last Name

  • Age:
17 (she's already been held back a year twice due to her embodiment)

  • Gender:
    Female

  • Embodiment:
Impossibly cute kid (A cross between I'm Taking Her Home with Me! - TV Tropes with Token Mini-Moe - TV Tropes)

  • Embodiment Effect:
The trope she embodies causes her behavior, mindset, words and appearance to always appear as the pinnacle of cuteness and childishness to those around her, to the point of causing the "I'm taking her home with me!" effect or simply being confused with an actual child. It's an extremely potent embodiment not in the sense of power atributed to her (if anything she will generally be weaker or less capable because of it), but rather the cheer scope of the distortion caused: people will often lose their rationality upon witnessing her cute behavior and her body is even physically much younger than her actual age. It goes to the point where she often has to wear a hoodie or some form of mask to prevent people from starting fawning over her or assaulting her with pokes and cheek pinches, as nomatter what she does it always transitioned into a childlike behavior which in turn is interpreted by the minds of the "victims" to be extremely cute. Often results in people treating her like an actual child or at least someone whose innocence ought to be protected. People who have a tendency to hate children are still partially affected by the perception of cuteness side of the embodiment, though not completely because the source of that cuteness is based on her childness. People who are afraid of children are entirely immune to the cutesy perception effect. However, even both of those still will perceive her as childlike or even an actual child.

  • Backstory:
Most of her life, Kawaiiko was a simple girl with a rebellious attitude. Coming from a broken home and being raised by a ruleless dad, she didn't really have anyone to tell her a "no", causing her to feel more and more ignored as her life went on. In the end, her calls for attention snowballed into self-destructive behavior, a punk attitude and style, heck even becoming a stereotypical gang leader. Self-reflecting, one might have thought that was her trope. She would have chuckled on the eve of the day she would go to court and probably be sent to juvenile prison, thinking that was what her life led to in the end. But should could not have possibly prepared for how much worse the real punishment would be.
On the day of the trial, Kawaiiko found her clothes no longer fit her. Guilty or not guilty, her chances wouldn't get any better if she didn't hurry to be there in time, so she tried to get on her clothes as best she could and ended up findind her usual chair was something she had to CLIMB. Not only that all of her clothes seemed too big. She tried asking her dad if he knew anything, and this adorable little questioning voice came out of her mouth. It wasn't different from her real voice, but the WAY in which she was saying things was so odd. HEr father didn't seem to notice though, and even ended up getting her to court. There, she had a coughing fit, and it was somehow so adorable even the accusation lawyer felt wrong in trying to convict her of a crime she DID do, and dropped the case. Things were odd, too odd. But while she had been sleeping that morning, when she returned to her room, she realized something was far too off: Instead of the punk, edgy room she had carefully built for herself over the years, she had a fluffy and cutesy room with magical girls, stuffed animal and frills everywhere. Calling her old gang, she was no longer their leader but "their little princess". Something changed overnight and she didn't seem to be able to stop it!
To this day, she's been trying to fight back, but nothing ever seems to work. However, she never knew there were others with a problem like hers until the letter came. She wasn't sure if she wanted to accept though, but she ended up accidentally enrolled by her father who justified it with "little kids don't need to choose their school, do they?"

  • Name- Ayumu Tanaka

  • Age- 15

  • Gender- Male

  • Embodiment- Cloud cuckoolander

  • Embodiment Effect- Ayumu has, ah, quite an interesting mind. It rarely follows conventional logic. That isn't to say he's unintelligent - indeed, trying to compare his intelligence to anyone else's would be difficult - but he's very unlikely to do the same as anyone else. Whether this means knocking on the door while everyone else is trying to break through, or exerting ten times the effort to cheat on a test rather than just study, he's a very unique individual. Other times, he can seem to be an odd sort of fountain of wisdom, rants that reveal information being mixed in with rants about nonsense. Furthermore, people tend to accept his odd mind, as if he really were just comic relief. Indeed, they seem to accept anything he does as just the matter of course, with, sometimes, a half hearted effort to get him to stop.

  • Backstory- Ayumu's parents were both wacky people. His father was literally a clown, and wore his outfit most of the time, and his mother was mostly responsible for dealing with his father. While his father wasn't an embodiment of a trope, he was definitely similar. Even before his abilities woke, Ayumu's mind was clearly... different. Lateral thinking was his specialty, even if traditional thinking was a great weakness. Everywhere, he always seemed to gather light hearted friends to hang out with, where his antics were followed by other antics. He noticed something strange, however, where whenever he got upset, or sad, he was seemingly... written out, his friends all but ignoring him until he returned to his normal state. Naturally, his first instinct was that some people were embodiments of common archetypes in fiction. He didn't even bother hiding this assumption, letting everyone know, but, naturally, they simply assumed this was just him being crazy again. While Ayumu is far from being depressed, he is human, and has at times felt all emotions humans are prone to feeling. Really, he's rather upset that the universe - or whatever force is doing this - gave him such a narrow roll to fill. He'd be good at being a mad scientist, he thought. Or something else. He lived in the same town for most of his life, a completely generic life, outside of what he himself did to make it more interesting. He understood the letter perfectly as soon as he read it, and gladly enrolled, eager to mess about more.

  • Name: Dante Mercer

  • Age: 15

  • Gender: Male

  • Embodiment: Broken Ace

  • Embodiment Effect: The trope he embodies provides a wide variety of effects... most of which are incredibly self-destructive. To put it quite simply his embodiment, while making him a downright outstanding individual in terms of both mental and physical prowess, popularity, and looks, forces a mental compulsion to try and always be perceived as absolutely perfect to the point of self-destructive behavior and to always live up to other people's expectations onto him, as well as a crippling fear of failing to meet other people's expectations. It also forces him into situations that would cause others to have high expectations of him, furthering its self-destructive nature.

  • Backstory: Before Dante became an embodiment his life was... pretty average really. Nothing all that special at all. His parents were around most of the time, and they were a fairly happy middle-class family. He was a slightly below average student who rarely payed attention in class but managed to pull through decently well anyway. He didn't really have any friends, but that was just the way he liked it. He felt incredibly uncomfortable in social situations, and often avoided talking to other people unless he had to. He was a laid back guy who just liked to do whatever he felt like, avoiding giving others a reason to create high expectations for his actions. Sure, he envied the popular kids at his school, how they could always get whatever they wanted, how they had tons of friends, how everything in their life seemed to be perfect, but he knew that kind of thing was out of the question for him. He was just an average run of the mill guy, why should he aspire to be something else? Then he woke up one day and everything had changed. The first thing that'd changed was incredibly obvious, he'd went from being a somewhat middle of the road guy to someone even he'd date, strong, smart, attractive, and with a silvery voice too. That was about the only change for the better though. Suddenly everyone had incredibly high expectations of him, even his parents, who had previously just sort of let him do whatever he'd wanted. Over night every grade he'd ever made in any class ever had been a perfect 100, he'd somehow become the quarterback on his middle-school's football team which was on a perfect winning streak thanks to him, despite him not even liking football, and he'd become a well known local hero for stopping a robbery that he couldn't even remember happening. Everyone had put him, a socially inept once middle of the road kid, on a pedestal as the pinnacle of perfection. He, a kid that just wanted to lay back and let things happen, was now being forced to do this and that just to keep everyone in his life from being disappointed with him. His parents barely seemed to care if he did anything right, instead using him to advance their social life and only ever really showing any emotion towards him when he did something even slightly, barely, wrong, verbally abusing him and telling him that if he slipped up even once nobody would love him anymore, nobody would care about him, he'd be nothing more than human garbage. He just wanted things to go back the way they used to be, but he couldn't bring himself to let down other people's expectations, to disappoint them, fearing what might happen if he did, fearing that everything would go wrong and his life would become living hell, fearing that if he let even a single little small flaw show everyone would despise him for failing to be perfect. Recently he'd received a strange letter and, after just barely managing to convince his parents, he enrolled to the boarding school, under the threat by his parents that if he got a single grade less than a perfect 100 they'd kick him out on the streets to live on his own.

  • Name: Appleine "Apple" Scarlet

  • Age: 15

  • Gender: Female

  • Embodiment: Alpha Bitch

  • Embodiment Effect: Appleine's embodiment causes her to be an outwardly rude, bullying, mean-spirited excuse for a human scion of a rich family to everybody around her even if she wishes otherwise. People would either admire or fear her, it doesn't matter since both works to put her high up the popularity food-chain. No matter what she does, the universe will interpret it as the work of the high school villainess. The universe also never fail to give her hordes of minions anytime and anywhere.

  • Backstory: Appleine's life was fairly normal before the big change. She was a good daughter and her parents were normal people; her mother was a housewife and her father was a small-time business owner. On the day of her thirteenth birthday, her dad announced that his business hit it big and in the span of two months after, they moved in to a humongous mansion. It was a very quick transition that left thirteen year old Apple dazzled state. The next time she went to school after hitting the age of thirteen, she realized lots of things: her friends were praising her too much which was odd since they weren't that type of friends, she was the head cheerleader (she definitely did not join them) and every students were literally waving to her. There came a time when she made a joke about one of her friends being a bookworm and the afternoon after that she found out that their other friends were bullying the poor kid because of what Apple said. She stepped up and told them to knock it off but the bullies thought she was being sarcastic so she ended up screaming at the top of her lungs and everyone visibly flinched and halted. That was the time she concluded that things were no longer normal. Apple started experimenting, she tried to do nice things to people but they would always backfire and cause misery to the recipient of said kindness. As time goes by, her embodiment grew and began messing with her head. She found manipulating people and getting them to do what she want to be entertaining and convenient. She giggles when a wimpy kid trips, grins when everyone makes way when she's walking down the hall and laughs when being adored. Of course, before all the pampering and attention, she was a good girl so there will always be this small voice of reason at the back of her mind reminding her constantly that "something is wrong."

Appleine was hesitant when the letter arrived for her so she kept in her room. It would be an understatement if she said that she was surprised when she found out that she is already enrolled to the school thanks to her parents.

Name: Jake Chor

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Embodiment: Greek Chorus - TV Tropes

Embodiment Effect: Jake has a pretty sweet deal actually. He's forever destined to be stuck in the background, making snarky comments about other characters actions. Of course, this means he still gets more attention than other background characters. No one ever really seems to notice him and when someone does it's usually for a small gag or something. Fourth wall breaking is a plus.

Backstory: From the moment Jake started talking his destiny was obvious. He'd make sarcastic and clever comments on anything and almost nobody noticed. His parents, of course, did notice and they indeed try to put a stop to it several times. Each time was a failure. Then the letter came and Jake was shipped off. The end. Or is it.
