Fandom Waves of Dementia, A Marker's Calling... (Dead Space)

"Much appreciated," JD remarked as the screen came to life with the four prompts available. It wasn't exactly rocket science, but the options could be just about anything.

OPEN
What was there to open exactly? The observation deck was clearly open. Perhaps it was a dual function and it both opened and closed the deck. Only one way to find out...

JD pressed "OPEN" and, as he suspected, it closed off the deck with a large metallic dome that came up from the sides. It sealed off and flickered a bit before several screens illuminated to act as if it were a glass dome and projected an image of the outside.

LIGHTS ON
Probably controlled the lights below deck. Not really necessary right now.

SHUT DOWN
Again, not necessary. We just got this puppy going.

All that was left was
ACTIVATE

JD looked to Sarge, hand over the button. Sarge nodded and JD pressed the button. There was a bit of a mechanical whirring before the entire deck rattled a bit, unsettling them all before it began its slow descent.

Lea was impressed, or caught off guard would be better, as the dome closed in. It was odd that they made it seem like a glass dome, couldn't they have put an actual glass one in? He shrugged and left that to the engineers and designers, he did guard duty and shot guns, not build giant balls. The next motion, that vague one of falling when you stand in an elevator, made him stumble a bit. "Jet legged, Lea?" He heard Delta call out with a laugh. Delta had no malicious intent or ill will, the group joked around. The jab at him was nothing as the lift took them down.

As the lift went down the rocks transitioned from rough to cleanly cut stone and then metal, the marker still in the center. What does a base like this need such a large elevator for? Lea wondered. Some ways down rings of white lights passed every seven or eight feet, probably measuring in stories of a building. Humans liked patterns and nice math, plus the deeper they went the darker it would get, so light was appreciated.

After about five minutes the lift stopped, the lift's shaft stretched above them at least thirty or forty stories. The sky a dot far from their reach and a reminder that they come a long way. Ahead of them a small corridor led to a door, the blue "OPEN" sign being the only light in those small steps. "Go on, wobbles, take point." Another crude joke from Delta. Lea rolled his eyes and closed his helmet before he made his way towards the door, his rifle at ready as he entered the dark corridor. Even if it was only a few steps, it was dark in the tunnel and even darker here.

Lea took point with Delta following behind. Sarge came next then JD as he backed away from the panel. He was held back by Echo who spoke to him silently.
"Get rid of the tin can, Jar-Dead. We don't know if the air is clean down here. Besides, that antique is about as useful as dogshit against a bullet."
He ended his silent input with a heavy pat on the shoulder before forming up.
JD grumbled a bit and removed his helmet, it clattering to the floor of the observation deck as his integrated helmet formed up with the standard cyan visor backlight and typical security suit shape. He shouldered his weapon and closed in with his squad, not knowing of the carnage that waited for them as they would inevitably travel further down through the labs.

The door closed behind them and panel lights barely lit the dim hallway that lead them to a lobby of sorts. It wasn't very big, mostly filled with cheap seating, some tables and a service computer near an elevator.

"Clear," they all eventually uttered as there couldn't possibly be anything hiding in the room. Sarge approached the computer and fiddled with it for a few seconds before app of their RIGs chimed as they downloaded a map of the facility.
"This will go a long way," he muttered before getting irritated and cursing. He slammed his fist down to strike the computer but stopped last second and sighed dejectedly. "Damn video logs and distress call are corrupted. Comms are fucked and so is the beacon now that the entire deck is a hundred leagues below the sea. Unless we can fix the comms we are radio silent to home base."

Lea kept close to the group after the initial sweep of the lobby, a second hallway led to labs and probably storage. It was quiet, he didn't like that. Even if the distress call was true with people dying, you'd think the labs would be one of the safer places. Unless it all started here... A creepy chill ran up his spine, even under the armor and mesh he felt the cold, but he remained silent.

"Damn. If that's the case then I think we should either split up or all head to comms. Personally, I think we need to check admin or security to get cameras and find out what fucked this place." Delta offered up, not the worst plan but it always spelled bad news. Separating in movies and games was bad and even in a few of their other ops it went wrong. Byut this place was fairly big and they had a lot to do.

"I hate to agree, but it would help us get the situation under wraps. Going off the map, comms and admin are on the same floor and not far away. But we're dozens of levels below them. Security is closer by a handful of levels but I doubt we could get in without a key." Lea chimed in, not the brightest or most technical at times, but he knew his way around a map and how to divide resources.

Sarge thought it all over, as well as everyone else, and eventually came to a decision.
"JD, you can't be everywhere at once to act as medic while we split. Stick with Lea and head up to comms and admin," he nodded to the duo. Sarge was older, but he wasn't a fool. Seasoned, but definitely no spring chicken. He knew who worked best together and didn't like to shake the dynamic up unless necessary. Right now, stick with what's best.

"Echo, Delta--We're going to security. If something comes up and you have to split, let us know. We'll do the same."

The three of them cleared the elevator as it opened and the rode it up to security, leaving JD and Lea to this floor for the time being.

Eyeing the same hallway as Lance, JD approached his battlebuddy and asked. "What do you think, storage? It's a lower level so probably just living quarters or something, yeah?"

Lea didn't disagree with Sarge's plan, but it was a risk to leave the medic with just one guy. Though, that was hardly ever an issue and if need be they could B-line it to the others. Other than the plan he hardly heard anything else since his attention was on the hallway. It was...there, but almost screaming its presence. He couldn't put a finger on it but he didn't like the hall. His focus was broken when JD came up, not seeming as off put by the passage as Lea was. "I have a bad feeling about it, about this whole thing. Think about it, we're on one of the lowest levels and there's no one. If an attack happened, would it have either came from here or if came from above, wouldn't this be one of the safer places?" None of it made sense to him.

He looked at his war brother and gave a small shrug. "We should probably check it before we leave, there has to be something down there. Worse case scenario O'm just paranoid and we find a bunch of empty beds." A small laugh followed his remark, he wasn't scared or worried, just unsure of what little they had seen. Little did he know that they should have brought a hell of a lot more guys or some bigger guns.

As Jeff thought about it, he realized it made little to no sense at all. There wasn't a trace of a single soul in this atrium save for some trash and the entire observation deck was abandoned. So, where the Hell was everybody?

"Yeah, you're right. No comms, a choppy distress message and not s single person to show for it... And this would either be ground zero or a safe haven yet there is nothing and no one. This does seem really... off," he commented, shouldering his weapon and starting to advance.
"Now or never," he said softly as he started on the hall. He could hear Lea follow and they walked cautiously. Doors on either side of then were labeled with names like they were living quarters while others had titles like "Medic" or "Sanitation" and general things of that nature. JD could only assume the upper levels had larger lab wings and this was pretty much just a living space with storage and basic necessities for the floor.

As they neared a turn in the hall to go right JD could just barely make out a large blood smear on the floor rounding the corner amidst flickering lights.
"Sarge... we got blood," he said over their comms and waited for a reply as they approached with greater caution.

Lance walked close behind JD, well, ad close as he could for his rifle not to bump into his teammate and result in friendly fire. As they made their way down the hall the eeriness of such casual rooms was somehow unnatural. That feeling of familiarity and terror; as if they were walking into a trap. Lea hit the corner second, a mix of shock and being right filled his nerves. The one time he wanted to be wrong...

Jeff called it in and as he did Lea took a few steps towards it, shining his light. It seemed to go on further down. The beam from his light followed the crimson mark to a door with a label "Morgue 2" above it. The door itself looked fine except for the pool of blood and hand prints at the floor.

"Shit. You, too? What the fuck is going on?" Sarge responded over the channel, he, Delta, and Echo came out of the elevator to a few smears that led to nothing but vents. "Shit is bad up here, you two need to keep an eye out and get your asses to admin and comms."

"You guys are lucky you aren't here, real bath up here." Delta added in as he peeked into a busted vent, the gore trailing inside. He saw limbs and fingers, he was glad his helmet filtered out the smell.

"10-4," JD responded as they advanced, getting nervous himself as they approached the second morgue.
"Since when do terrorist groups store the dead in the morgue? It's not like them to clean up. Just kill and move on," he spoke to Lea as they reached the door. Jeff hit the button to open the door and it took a bit to do so, a bit longer than he cared for. When it did finally open, it was eerie as all Hell. The door slowly rattled open and the sight before the two was horrendous. Every inch of the room was basically coated with the most crimson blood JD had ever seen in his life and there were body parts strewn all about from limbs to entrails. It was like walking onto the set of a horror film where a bomb went off and obliterated the cast and crew. JD almost couldn't stomach it, wretching silently behind his helmet as he lowered his weapon and tried to keep his gut in check.

"Oh, fuck, Sarge," he radioed in again. "It looks like a damn garbage disposal went off all over the morgue... There are just... chunks... of people all over and blood is everywhere... There isn't a soul in sight either. We're cutting out and heading up."

The slow timing on the door put the whole mood on edge. Above them was unknown and this morgue door was creepy as all hell. Lea could barely hold his patience until the door opened and the ventured in. Unlike JD, Lea couldn't fully stomach the scene. The gallons of blood, limbs as streamers, and guts tying it all together. It was as if humans were used to make a smoothie and the damn blender broke, tossing the contents everywhere. Lea's vomit didn't help, he barely opened his helmet in time to mix in his lunch from the last week. A near minute of straight brown and green gunk spewed from him. The smell made him hurk for a second round but he held himself together.

"God dammit." Sarge mumbled as he answered, this time opening up a video channel. He stood in a room, the blue pixels made it hard to tell at first but there was something oozing off the walls. Sarge turned the camera view to face the room, a much less volatile scene was lain out. Mostly full corpses were strewn about, maybe half a dozen people, all missing a limb or tow, some jus had larg gashes or stab wound, one was completely headless. "I don't know what sick fuck could do this, but I doubt it's any good."

"Sarge! I see someone down the hall/" Delta called from one corridor, Sarge turned the camera. In the distance stood a robed figure their back to the group. "Hello! We're here to help. Can you tell us what happened?" Delta tried to call out but got no response. A soft mumbling could be heard barely through the audio, no words really stood out.

The hooded figure lingered for another moment before walking away and suddenly sprinting as Delta tried calling out again. JD wasn't sure what to make of that and shook his head, speechless.
"Well that clears everything up," Sarge grumbled and Echo told Delta to can it.
"You forget, we're in the open. And now our position is blown. We don't know who the fuck that is or if they're friendly," he said calmly but there was venom behind the words. It seemed like everyone was on edge.

"Just... Sarge, be careful," JD chimed in.
"We're heading out no--"
A loud metal clang cut him off, the sound erupting from behind them back in the hall. Lea and Jeff whipped around and trained their guns down the hall towards a wall vent that had just blown open. Over the video the same clang could be heard multiple times.
"What. In. The. FUCK," Sarge exclaimed before the trio clocked in on... whatever it was they saw. "Fuck that ugly bastard up!"
There were several gunshots before the video cut.

"Fuck off, Echo, I know what I'm-" Delta tried to snap back before he opened fire.
Lea tried to see what was going on or get an answer before the call was dropped and their attention at the open vent. What could be inside? Who? "Shit storm behind us and ghosts in front." He joked, trying to lighten the tension. Maybe this wasn't the time for dumb jokes.

Even less so as two odd apendes poked out of the vent, followed by a head and a body but not a usual one. A slasher dropped to the floor, its face bruised and body filled with holes. It had been in a few fights and clearly walked away the winner. "What the fuck?" Lea mumbled, if it wasn't for the blades and guts spilled out he would have asked if the guy needed help. "I have a real bad feeling, JD, I don't think we want him close." An obvious statement that was nailed home as the thing ran at them. Lea fired first, blasting one leg off and causing the thing to fall. A brief sigh of relief came before the damned thing began to crawl!

JD had the same thoughts going through his head, from the terrified curiosity to the absolute skin crawling need to be as far from this thing as possible.

Lance fired the first shot and seemingly dropped the thing. JD also sighed with relief before the creature snarled and started to drag itself along the floor toward them. The two marines went full auto on the beast and ripped it to shreds with depleted uranium high calibre rounds.

Once the monster was well and truly dead came the true sigh of relief. JD was about to reestablish contact with their squad when a deafening roar erupted from the hall again and a horde of the slashers rounded the corner and began charging toward the marines.

"Waste the motherfuckers," JD swore and blasted away with full auto again. He wasn't particularly religious but he was thanking whatever God that would listen that he had stasis attached to his rounds. The bullets did the regular damage he was accustomed to but also greatly slowed the charging horde. Well, at least the ones up front. Those in back literally ripped through to the front and were subsequently slowed down themselves and started a loop.

Lea barely had time to breathe after they killed the first monstrosity before the next wave came from the hall. How had they missed them? How could one eerier feeling lead them to fighting off the undead or aliens or undead aliens? Snapping back to the matter at hand and JD's instruction, Lea went at them with his shotgun under barrel first, the flame rounds seemed to help break off limbs as the slugs ripped off chunks.

He aimed for the weird blades on top with the first few, making them a little less of a threat. Seeing his partner's stasis do its job he switched to the higher calibre rifle rounds that went through two or legs of the things. Even though they chopped them down they just kept coming, pushing and slashing through each other. These things were animals, they held little in sense of kinship or honor. Lea had a hard time believing a god could do all this, but if Lea ever found him, he'd beat the shit out of them.

After ten minutes of continuous fire and more ammo than they'd probably both hated wasting, the group of monsters was reduced to a pile of mush, gore, and barely intact limbs. Lance glanced at his brother in arms, if his helmet were done a look of fear and confusion would have been the blinding feature on his body. "What the fuck were those? Were they people--they looked like people--but how?" He nearly shouted in annoyance and anger. "Did you see how many bullets they took? Even with every round on this station I doubt we have enough." There had to be an easier way to dispatch these foes, if they couldn't find out how, then they would be left with no choice but to fun or fight up close. Neither of which Lea liked in this situation.

JD breathed another sigh of relief as the firefight ended. He, too, would have liked to expend less ammo than they did, but there was little choice in the matter. The best they could hope for was to find more ammo or better weapons, hopefully both.
It was a scene of absolute carnage. There was blood, gore, and giblets everywhere. It looked like these... things had gone through a blender just like the morgue. He was left with more questions than answers and he was just as frustrated as Lea when Lea snapped on him.

Jeff tried to respond but he was left frazzled and couldn't get a word in even if he tried as his comrade was frantically rambling.
"Lance," he said, trying to but in but to no avail. "Lance!" Again, nothing.
He slung his weapon and sighed before grabbing his friend's shoulders and then giving him a firm smack across his helmeted face with the back of his hand.
"Snap out of it, Lea!" He shouted at his friend. He hated doing that but Lance was gone in that moment and the blow seemed to shake him free.
"Are you good," he asked, waiting for reassurance before letting go and apologizing.
"Look, sorry... but I don't fucking know, man. I just saw monsters with swords for arms charging and shot. I'm not sure who or what they are, but they're dead and we'll just have to kill more if they come at us, alright?"
He grabbed his rifle again and popped out the mag.
"Do an ammo check and we'll move out."
It wasn't like JD to be that way, but he was doing his best to just keep a level head right now and help his friend keep his. If that meant being a bit harsh, so be it. They would find answers soon, but it wasn't safe here, not anymore. They needed to move, and fast.

Lea rambled on, his thoughts rushing in and out. This was all so much so soon, he had seen carnage and horror, but this was straight out of a movie or game. Humans were one thing, but actual monsters? He couldn't help himself or stop, he didn't even hear his friend's first set of callouts. It wasn't until he recieved a hard shake and a smack, his head hitting the side of the inner lining. The suddenness broke him free.

"I'm good... I'm sorry, I got caught up in the moment." Who knows how long he would have been there if JD didn't literally snap him out of it. The brashness was usually Lea's thing, but he was grateful he had someoen to look out for him. JD always found a way to ground Lea, whether it be in moments like that or to get him to push on and he had done his best to show the appreciation before.

Following up on the ammo check, he took his clip out and checked his shells, he had about 30 round for his rifle and another 15 for his shotgun. He walked in here with at least twice that. "I'm running low, I got basically a load and a half each." It was motivation to look for more and make sure he got back in shape, making shots count from now on. "The map says there is a few armory and benches on the way to admin, we can see what they have for supplies. And thank you, Jeff, for the smack. I needed it." He gently patted his comrades shoulder before readying up down the hall, there was no time to waste.

Down the hall they came and past the fight was clear. The lobby looked empty from the corner, that odd silence was back again. Lance took careful strides towards the lobby. it was a wreck now. The few tables and chairs were toppled over and thrown about. The vents in the room were busted, most likely how those things got to them. "Clear down near the lift door, too." He called out.

JD checked his gear and had about the same left on his rifle while his sidearm had a full five reloads of ammo, thirty shots worth.
"Looks like we're in the same boat," he said, agreeing also on the point of stopping by the armory and benches to find ammo. "Maybe we'll get lucky, who knows."
He nodded at Lea. "Anytime, brother. You'd do the same for me. Hell, you have before," he laughed slightly before quieting down as they walked.
The bloodbath they past was much like the one in the morgue. The sickening squish and crunch beneath their boots as they walked... It was something else, for sure. And Lea was right, these things did look human, or at least like they used to be. It was like they were mutated or something but he couldn't say for sure.

JD cleared the lobby with Lea again as they entered. It was the same as before save for being trashed and all the busted vents.
"Let's just move up. We'll try and contact Sarge and the rest soon. I'm sure they handled themselves fine," he said. The last part was more wishful thinking than certainty though. He knew the three were capable, but this was a new threat they had never encountered before. Even JD and Lea barely made it out without using all of their ammo. Hopefully they would regroup soon.

Lea nodded, regrouping would be the best. Even with low anno, numbers would hold better. He tapped the button to bring the elevator down, within a minute it slid open and the pair stepped inside. Going off the map and where the elevator came from, Lea chose to hit the same floor button as Sarge and the others. Being on the same floor would give them a trail at least, hopefuly not of their comrades' bodies...

"I don't want to think about what the civies had to go through, even the security here would have suffered. We barely made it out, though, so others had to be alive." It was wishful thinking, something Lea typically held onto, but JD and it were the only things pushing him through what he would consider the gates of Hell. At least, the sight as the elevator opened again was Hell, more of those weird things were chopped down.

"Those holes look fresh, it might have been the others. Maybe they tried coming back and were stalled." Lance suggested, the elevator would be one of the easier routes and the video cut out before they could see where they went.

"Yeah... those things must have come so damn fast. I don't think even we'd have a chance unless we were equipped so I don't wanna think about it either," JD muttered as he waited for the elevator. Then came something from JD that was typical of him.
"Something ain't right here, Lance," he said. He always was one to speak his mind and it often got him into trouble with the brass. He wasn't sure of it yet, but he had his suspicions of things now and would reserve his other thoughts for later.

JD groaned at the sight before them. More freaks. He observed the wounds and the fresh appearing blood.
"Maybe," he agreed before making another observation. "Look there, though. Looks like plasma burns. Somebody is or was running around with a cutter, probably other tools too. Maybe a thought for if we run out if ammo. Wouldnt hurt to try," he thought out loud as he kicked most of the bulk weight from their path and made a move along the carnage. "Security should be up ahead. With any luck we'll find some ammo," he commented as they commenced a two man sweep as they walked the halls, clearing rooms they passed and keeping a move on. This was all procedure. Keep quiet, keep moving, don't dawdle, shoot first. But still, procedure or not, the bodies of torn up people and dead freaks was fucking with JD's head. He could swear he heard movement in the walls and there was an itching in his brain he couldn't scratch. He didn't like any of this one bit.

Lea didn't like the idea of using tools, they were unfamiliar to him, but he knew that a lot of modern tools punched holes through people easier than some weapons. Being used to mine large asteroids or clear debris from ships, it was no surprise someone used a plasma cutter or any real tool. And with decent accuracy, meaning they either had some combat training or were one hell of miner or engineer, the thought of being out-shot by someone like that was a little scary and angering. But, Lea pushed those thoughts out as they pressed on.

Clearing the hall and rooms as they went was second nature to both them, what wasn't was the contents of most them. Blood and limbs were the only occupants. Sure, they'd seen some shit, waded their way through rivers of blood and bodies but this was more than anyone ever should see. It all was getting on Lea's nerves, the waste of life, the fact that they could have done nothing to save these people... It pushed him to a point he was unaware he could hit, one of unforgiving bullet hell anytime one of those freaks burst out. In several rooms one or two made a move and each time they were dispatched by the soldiers, Lea may have fired a few more rounds off than he should of a few times, and he even lost count once.

By the time they reached command he was on his last clip of his rifle and only has a backup for his sidearm, meaning JD's plan of using tools may come sooner than expected. Standing outside the door to security, or rather what was left of it, Lea and his trusted medic checked their rounds before each taking a side. Rushing in to the right, Lea checked the desk, but nothing stood there. A small breath left his lips, fogging his visors, but his gun remained up. "This place looks better than most places.." He mumbled, the carpet was mostly visible and there didnt seem to be any casualties in the initial room. Though, behind several of the doors of the splintering halls scratching and what could he misheard as voices called out to the duo.

"Little bit, but not by much," JD replied quietly, scanning the room and getting that unnerving feeling again. It was as if he could hear someone whispering in his ears on top of the strange sounds from the walls and it only made that itch in his head stronger and nearly impossible to ignore.
"Please, for the love of God, tell me you hear that too," he grumbled, his aim getting unsteady as he had to bring a hand to his head. His fingers were clenching down hard on the helmet and he was beginning to grumble and groan from the sudden pulsing migraine. Just as the pain reached its apex a flash of strange symbols and images of carnage and death flashed before his eyes and disappeared as quickly as they came, including the migraine. He shook his head and blinked a few times behind his visor before glancing over at Lea. He raised a hand to signal that he was fine and raised his weapon again.
"Sorry about that. Just... That was a weird headache..." He grumbled and then began advancing through security on high alert.

Lea looked over at JD at the mention of hearing something, he was unsure what his comrade was hearing but he knew he himself was hearing scratching and murmurs, mostly from the rooms ahead. He was going to confirm with the medic when JD seemed to be in pain, clawing at his helmet like it was squeezing his brains out. That scared Lea, JD kept cool and hardly had issues, now he was hearing stuff and in pain without a source. Lance reached a worrisome hand in the direction of his friend and nearly advanced when JD seemed to have recovered from the spell or whatever it was.

"Look, if you need to take a break, we can. Let's sweep security and take a rest, it's been hell since we got here." The rifleman wanted to reassure his ally, to make sure he was alright, but they were in uncharted territory and being caught with their pants down was not ideal. With the slight recovery of JD they pressed on into security.

There was a total of six rooms ahead of them, three were offices on one side, one was a locker room at the far end, another was a small armory, and the last a lounge room. From where they stood the lounge came first with an office across the hall, that door was locked. The lounge door was halfway open and the light on the Inside revealed the room was empty but a fight had broken out. The vents were broken from within the room, implying what was in there left through them. The armory door was unlocked but closed, the office across from it was open, a single bulb flickered. Lea approached this pair leaning to peak at the office, a soft chewing sound came from within the room as the pair drew close. A wet slosh sound proceeded the harsh crunch of bone. The sounds made Lea's skin crawl, his mind imagining the worst.

"I'll be fine," JD replied, focused on the task at hand and trying not to think about what just happened in his head. "Let's just get through this and regroup with the squad. I'd rather take a breather once we have more fire power as insurance."

Jeff made note of the doors that were locked and unlocked and what they led to. He and Lea had stopped at the office door with the flickering light and the sounds of what could only be described as someone being some thing's dinner. The noises that came from the room were sickening and JD really didn't want to think about who was being munched on. He knew the rest of the squad had come this way when the shit hit the fan and could only hope that they made it out alive. All five of them could surely survive this, but just him and Lance? If these things got any bigger or stronger... He honestly didn't know.
JD looked at Lea and pulled out his sidearm for the encounter to conserve what little ammo he had left on his primary. He gave a countdown with his fingers for the breach, kicking the door in on zero and taking aim.

Lea took post at one side of the door, his mind flooded with images of the poor soul on the other side of the door. The sloshes and crunches of the meal were familiar but the food was more or less alien. The counting from JD was distant but instincts filled in the rest as the cue was given. Lance jumped in first once JD's leg moved back to support him. In the center of the room was a single figure but the pattern was off. Instead of the pale or pink skins this one was near black with puss yellow stains, like a spider covered in mustard. Unlike JD, Lea made the choice to stick to his primary, firing a few shots into the back and side of the creature with little affect.

"Fuck, this one is tougher than the others!" He called out, the attention of the creature gained as it quickly turned and ran at the pair. He was about to jump on Jd but mid step it turned to Lance and grabbed a hold of him, biting into his collar bone. Without the armor he for sure would have lost a huge chunk of flesh, not that it still didn't hurt. The creature wrestled with him, the two thrashing back and forth like a twisted dance a macabre ball. "Stupid.... Get. OFF!" He yelled as he dropped his rifle and attempted to grab his combat knife, stabbing the thing in the gut as his other arm pushed it off. The thing stumbled, one bladed arm covering the wounded flesh as blood and guts spilled out. It snapped back into action seconds later, determined to restock its meal.

JD had fired twice onto this new variant of creature that was before them. His revolver didn't seem to phase it and neither did Lance's rifle. It was a bit bigger and even stronger than the ones from before and it looked a million times more disgusting. It was an absolute abomination, a crime against nature and it needed to be destroyed. But, for whatever reason, Jeff froze, something he never did. It was charging straight for him and he couldn't move. His only saving grace was that it changed it's mind last second and went after Lea instead. That snapped him out of it.

JD couldn't get a good shot off without risking his friend until he managed to break free and that's when he went off. Jeff didn't give this thing a chance to breath as he began to advance, unloading the remaining four shots of the revolver, a total of eight rounds, and was in striking distance of the monster when he fired the last round.
"You ugly," he exclaimed as he backhanded it with the revolver.
"Mother!" Thwack!
"Fucker!" Smack!
He Spartan kicked it onto it's ass after the last pistol whip and reloaded the gun before mag dumping again, wounding the creature further but not killing it just yet. It was struggling back to it's feet, but the two were ready again for it's counter.
