Family: Uzume has a brother whom she doesn't like to talk about, God of Sea and Storms Susanoo no Mikoto


History: Ame no Uzume got into a fight with her brother Susanoo. He then had destroyed her rice fields and brutally murdered her female companion. She was furious with him and went into hiding in a cave. The world, without Uzume and her sun went dark and the Gods could not lure her out from her place of hiding.


While in the cave Uzume stood near the cave entrance on top of an upside down tub and danced all while ripping off her clothes. The Gods found this humorous, and it is that dance that inspired the ritual dance of Kagura. When she heard them she was curious to see what was so funny and found a shiny reflective mirror laying against a tree. Her brother then closed the cave so that she could no longer hide and the sun returned to the earth.
