Wanted: Role Play Partners, Preferably Alive

Cathedra

The Fateless
As a new member to this site I've decided to jump right into the heat of things - no floaties for me, I'm going all in! No hesitation, just me and a pool filled to the brim with creativity and a heavy dose of imagination. ...But honestly, mystical flotation devices or not, I'm on the hunt for a few Role Playing partners who are interested in some generally long term story lines. I've gone ahead and listed some important information about myself as a Role Player, so if you're interested take a look.

What do you consider "long term"?

To me a long term Role Play can easily span the course of a few months depending on both post length and speed. Simply put: so long as there is a relevant story line harboring the possibility of growing into something more - or just simply having the ability to carry a slew of ideas and what-not on its own - then the project can be listed as "long term". I'm not looking for something that will only last a week or two at most.

What genres do you Role Play?

I believe the more appropriate question here would be "what genre's don't you play?" because, quite honestly, I have no set limitations here. However, I will say that my most commonly written are those of a Historical, Adventure, Horror, Mystery, Fantasy, and/or Romance persuasion. I'm not too familiar with SciFi or futuristic settings personally, but I'm constantly on the look out for something outside of my comfort zone. Likewise, my experience in Canon Verses is also a bit limited, but not nonexistent. I watch anime, have for a good while, and have no problems crafting a Role Play around one. Unfortunately my list of television shows is practically nonexistent, so Role Plays of that nature may be a bit of a stretch for me.

I have also created multiple plot lines and universes over my years as a Role Player; as such I have no problems devising and using an original concept.

What kind of characters do you play?

Each of my characters is specifically crafted to fit into the Role Play they have been selected for. While some may share a few similar characteristics, no one is exactly like another. Likewise, I have no issues playing as either a male or a female; however, my preference is with the later since I find my actual gender easier to grasp and portray. Nonetheless, I'm always open to new ideas and challenges.

What is your average post length?

I am easily a multi-paragraph poster, typically dishing out anywhere from two to ten - sometimes more - paragraphs per response. Of course, this isn't to say that I'm incapable of writing shorter length responses; however, I refuse to post anything bellow a single paragraph. This is partially because I actually find it more difficult to craft short posts in comparison to longer ones. Nonetheless, I do my best to have my posts ready and made in decent time.

How active are you?

I am currently finishing my senior year of high school - I have all of 19 days left - and have taken up a part time job as well. So no, I can't be on 24/7, but I will be able to log in daily unless otherwise stated.

Do you have any specific qualifications for a partner?

All I ask for is a person of literacy. I take English as a subject very seriously and often find myself peeved with excessively poor grammar. Nevertheless, typos and the like do happen so I'm not about to go around judging people because I can. That would just be rude and anti-productive. Not to mention a complete waste of time.

If you can keep up with my posting lengths all the better, but this is in no way a requirement. Just the same, you are free to post at your leisure with me. Trust me, I understand how life works, always seeming to get in your way when you finally find a break as it does.

So there you have it! I believe I've covered all the basics with that spiel. If you're interested in embarking on a Role Playing journey with me let me know. I'm open to any and all ideas at this point.

...There was a sudden coldness to the room then, as though the darkness kept at bay by the flickering torchlight was crawling out from the shadows, creeping onto his prone form, seeping into his bones, his heart, his very soul. It was suffocating, and for a split second he wondered if he would be swallowed whole. But then there was a tug at his back, a sharp pain at the front of his neck, and the last thing he saw before his head rolled to the floor, banked eyes still staring, was the grinning face of the emperor bathed partially in the firelight....

I have to say, I like that you actually lay everything out on the table. That's nice to see, instead of having to try and pry information out of people. I will say, I am new on here, but I am not new to Roleplaying. I've been working on roleplays for about 6 years now. If you'd like, just as you've put, I can give you a sample of my writing. Though I'm with you on good grammar and spelling. It makes it much easier to go about things.

So, all that being said, and knowing that you're open to just about anything, is there anything in particular you've been wanting to work on?

I've always found it best to lay my cards on the table so-to-speak, if only to avoid skirting around the issue at hand. I believe that too much information is far better than too little any day. At least it gives you something to work with. Truth be told, I'm also new to this site - I just joined yesterday, actually - though I too have been Role Playing for a few years. Four, to be exact. Nonetheless, whether or not you want to post a preview of your writing is entirely up to you.

I will say, however, that as far as ideas for a Role Play are concerned I have nothing precise in mind as of yet. I was actually looking through a few of my older concepts not too long ago and managed to find a few that could be re-used after some tweaking. I am always open for something action related, however, and have been feeling a pull towards something a bit more modern in design lately. Fantasy is great, but I've been seeing a lot of those around. So maybe something more on the realistic side of things - not too sure yet.

You seem like an excellent roleplayer! I would absolutely love to work with you if you're up for it! I might even have a few plots in mind but if there's a specific idea or pairing you'd like to do I would love to hear it!

Realistic sounds great. I can do all manner of things with a little bit of time, but realistic/modern is always fun to do because it's easier to manipulate what you know. With action....there can be all manner of things. Action immediately makes me think of things related to gangs/mob/cops, something along those lines. Though I know those can also be a bit overused. I am pretty good with mafia-style things, but that's only because I've studied the history pretty extensively. Those can be fun if they're not cliche.

That being said, there are plenty of other things that can be done with action :) . What sorts of ideas had you considered reusing?

Hey, if you already have something in mind feel free to say it! I always enjoy seeing what others come up with; it inspires me to continue working with some of my own ideas. That being said, I really don't have anything in particular begging to be written right now. Still a bit too much in school mode I believe.

Okay sounds good! If you want I can send you a message with the ideas?

Well I'm certainly not above the general "gangs/mob/cops" as you said so long as the plot line remains entertaining. Sometimes those can fall into a bit of a rut. As for my old ideas... well, there are a good deal of them. However, when it comes down to a realistic modern setting there are only two that I can really think of using.

The first one, which is also in the need of the most work seeing as I wrote it about two years ago, is titled "Marionette". The basic plot revolves around a strange case of murders occurring within a city - the exact location is left to be decided - wherein a marionette made in the victim's likeness is left at each crime scene. Because of this commonality, the individual(s) responsible for the strings of events had been dubbed - oh-so originally - "Marionette". The reason I believe that this needs some reworking is because the character I had developed for it - Marionette herself - has a few flaws as does her back story. For instance, she works for a man who goes by the pseudonym "Puppeteer", but he himself was never properly thought out. Honestly, I think with just the right amount of effort this could be made into something rather incredible. It's just a matter of figuring out what to do with it. I had someone mention that I could make "marionettes" - Nora, the character I created, had a limited free will and was practically the property of her master - a commonality in the society, and thus have crime in abundance. Again, I'm not too sure on this one yet.

The second and far more developed of the two I wrote up a few months ago. It's appropriately named "A Horror of Mysteries" and the summary I wrote for it is as follows: "When mysterious happenings erupt in the city of (insert city here) and people end up missing from their homes only to be found inexplicably murdered the following day, rumors start to fly. Stories of a serial killer erupt into news headlines, and soon suspicions run rampant through the town, pitting even the closest of friends against each other. In the midst of this chaos an advanced team is assembled. Their job? Putting an end to the bedlam. But with no leads to be found, no connections between the victims, and whisperings of a darker evil at play, there appears to be no end in sight. Is it truly a serial killer, or the work of something far more sinister?" I had originally intended to make it a mystery wherein only I truly knew the culprit and end outcome of the story. Of course, I can keep it as such or I could disclose to you the truth behind the actual happenings if this appeals to you at all.

That would be great, thanks. ^^

You are right that those plots can ease into the rut and the mundane. Which is why I'm tentative to mention them, but coming up with the right plot or idea is always something that could potentially make or break it. What those sorts of deals come down to is character development. There's only so many scenarios that you can play, and liking the characters is pretty vital.

I have to say, I really like your first suggestion. Marionettes sounds...unique. It's not something I've heard, but that makes for a very definite MO in a murderer. I'm just trying to figure out what sort of dynamic that could be used. Since you bring up the Puppeteer, or that could imply a lot of the action would happen on that side. Whereas there's also the inevitable cat and mouse game because, clearly, someone would want this to stop. There's a lot of room for many different characters and scenes. It could also give you the chance to feel out Nora a little better, since you didn't know her too well. I don't have too many ideas to add to it right away, but there's plenty of room to feel it out.

Yes, I completely agree with you on the matter of character development. Personally, I always rate books and movies on that very aspect. It's truly what makes a work of literature great or mundane. I'm also glad that you like the first idea so much; I've really been toying with the idea a lot recently and I think you're right about the testing grounds for it. I'll be sure to draft some general ideas here shortly for it, but in the meantime you can feel free to look over my original draft for it. I used to be a big-time Wix user so it's all set up on a site which I have linked below.

Thanks for the info. Looks good, and gives me an idea of the characters and the mindsets. of all that's going on. Never seen Wix before....neat. I happily await your ideas. :)

I actually haven't watched any recently, but I've seen Black Butler, Ao No Exorcist, D-Grey Man, Kaze no Stigma, Kaito Kamikaze Jeanne, Kaicho Wa Maid Sama, KHR and a few others that I can't think of off the top of my head. Oh, and then there's Naruto, Pokemon, and Avatar the Last Airbender but I watched those on the television so I don't entirely consider them anime.

Wix are rather fun to work with if not a tad outdated for everything at this point. I should hopefully have some better cemented ideas later on tonight or early tomorrow. I have a test first thing in the morning so I'm afraid I can't promise much more from myself tonight.

I, personally, have been roleplaying for about 2 or so years. I wouldn't call myself a master or anything similar in terms of skill, but I'd like to think of myself of proficient. Due to the nature of the other site I frequent, I find myself lacking in anime-based RPs. Perhaps you could aid me in satiating my craving?

Sure thing, I'm not a big time anime Role Player so that makes this request all the better. I love trying out new things. Are they are anime that you're interested in RPing? I see you have Alucard as your profile picture; I was never able to finish Hellsing, but I'm familiar with the anime.
