Realistic or Modern Wading in the Dark

She was almost shocked by the man's state, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder with a smile. "No problem, love. Introduce yourself to the group, and you'll be fine." Bailee patted his back, but withdrew her hand and placed it in her sweater jacket. "Summer, dear, you have to loosen up on everyone. If she's here to investigate, you don't have to question Selena."

Summer looked over at the Brit and replied, "Yeah ok, I guess." She shrugged a bit before directing her attention back to Nick. "But still would like to know" Summer muttered under her breath. Summer glanced over her shoulder to see a nervous rack that people dared to call a man. "Bailee I think you should tell that man over there to loosen up instead of me. He looks like he's about to have a nervous break down or something."

Dawson Sneed

"oh me?" He could feel the eyes on him. "I-I'm Dawson. I'm looking for my high school crush's---" So many women were in the room. "I-I-I mean friend's Son. He's 12 and his name is Jack Figaro." He pulled out his thurmas and took a drink before returning it to the bag.

She laughed, looking at him with a grin. "Calm down, sweetie. It's not like we're going to hurt you." Bailee patted him once again, removing her scarf and stuffing it in the bag. "Were you close to the friend's son?"

I felt a little better now that I'd introduced myself. The feeling of dread that had coursed through my veins was beginning to subside and now I could get her head in the game. No doubt there were some people here that truly wanted to see their loved ones again but if statistics were to be trusted, at least one of them had some sort of ulterior motive. I silently cursed myself, despite having left the CIA I still had the mindset of a field operative. I would maintain my distant facade and reserve my judgment but I wouldn't trust, not yet anyway. I would have to verify all of the claims in secret, they spoke of people that had been abducted but I'd have to check if they were who they said they were. Anybody could easily get the name of a relative.

"
Selena. Why is it that if you were already in the room that you stayed hidden. I noticed you didn't enter through the entrance door like the majority of us." I was a little surprised at the voice directed at me, I was clearly deeper in thought than I'd thought. I look to my left and take in the appearance of the blonde woman before me - I recognise her voice, she's the mother who's looking for her daughter. I can't imagine how she must be feeling.

"
I don't like surprises." I whisper to match her quiet tone, but I still make an effort to listen to the other conversations. "I wanted to make sure that this wasn't a trap, but clearly I wasn't the only one who'd seen the website." I release a quiet sigh and watch as the attention of the room moves back towards the man that entered before me. He was a trembling mess or probably just very nervous, I would be to if I was wearing a tie like that. I smile slightly, appreciating his decision to help a friend.

Summer nodded in acceptance once she received her answer she was satisfied now. She heard as the man who seemed as if he were ready to piss his pants say he was searching for the child of his crush before he corrected himself. She knows how the woman feels and she herself smiles as well to the fact that he cares about someone else's child and is willing to help his friend during her time of need.

Frank frowned as Nick removed his coat, the gun holster hanging at his side. It was occupied by a nine mil he recognized. A quiet sigh eked out through his pressed lips. Is this man just another wahoo with a gun; some guy who thinks he can take on the world? Frank didn’t know, but he suspected as much and it made him uneasy. Unfortatly for him, and Frank suspected, for the others as well, the man was his best bet to get some information about what was going on and where these people were. As long as Frank got what he wanted he didn't much care.

He ignored the women prying him for answer and accusing him of lying. Just because he was lying didn’t mean they had to know, or that they would ever know. Frank wasn’t going to give them ammo.

At that moment the front door swung open again and Frank squinted to see the man who entered. He was young, or at least young-ish, tall, lanky. He looked like an accountant, or IT; someone who didn’t get outside much. His conversational skills didn’t change much of Frank’s initial judgments about the man.

Salena Channing. Frank turned to look at the woman as she approached. Average height for a woman, dirty blond hair, small chest, toned muscles. She worked out a lot. Pretty face. Definitely someone who had worked in the field. Not a marine, maybe military police? Navy, maybe JAG? He’d find out later.

While the others got acquainted Frank scratched his beard. He needed to buy a disposable phone and check in with the family, update them on his progress, albeit limited. At the start of the investigation he’d phone them every day, but that soon changed to every other day, and as he continued to run into more dead ends it changed to whenever he had information worth giving. That wasn’t often. If Frank was being honest with himself he wasn’t even sure this was worth phoning in. What was he going to say? Hi, I met a bunch of victims, who are emotionally compromised and armed; we’re going to find your son. Yeah, Frank as sure that would make perfect sense to the average human being. Desperate times, he told himself. He needed a drink. Later.

Frank looked towards Nick. “Alright, you’ve got us here.” He waved casually at the gathering of people. “What now? What information do you actually have?”

Nick Pierce

Nick had that insane like smile over his face again. Not only had he built a good group, some of these people where genuine bad asses. The lady who had creeped in, she would defiantly be useful. Frank, probably some kind of ex soldier or cop. Not only had he gathered some muscle, he had all the angles he needed. Bailee, she seemed to be able to keep everyone calm. Eden and Summer, two emotional bombs ready to explode not letting anything stand in the way. And this new guy Dawson, he obviously worked at a computer. Maybe he could hack, get some info, if he couldn't do that he could at least gather info easier than anyone else.

“What now? What information do you actually have?” Nick's smile faded into a slight grin. Plopping back down into his seat he grabbed the folder that he had brought with him. He sat it out on the table and opened it. Inside where pictures of a bold man in a suit, along with some other files that looked liked typed notes. Nick spread them out messily over the table. The pictures showed him entering building, exiting buildings, walking into a house that was probably his home, drinking coffee, and other normal daily task. "This is what info I have. This man is a participant in the kidnappings." Nick glazed his eyes over the group as he spoke. "I got a mysterious email with his name on it. This man is Paul Simmens. I did some research and long story short I hacked into his bank accounts, with some help which is no longer available. He has been buying large amounts of tools, tape, and other strange things. I as well fallowed him around a bit and caught him buying what looked like date rape drugs." he paused to catch his breath and look at everyones' reaction. "I would have gone to the cops with this, but the way I came hold of this info is very illegal. Plus we can use him to lead us farther into the group that is doing this, where as the cops can't."

Her ears perked up at the name, watching Nick with indefinite detail. "Last know location?" She asked, running a hand through the tangled mess of her hair, taking the notepad out of her pocket. Quoting Nick, she wrote down everything he had said, "I got a mysterious email with his name on it. This man is Paul Simmens. I did some research and long story short I hacked into his bank accounts, with some help which is no longer available. He has been buying large amounts of tools, tape, and other strange things. I as well fallowed him around a bit and caught him buying what looked like date rape drugs." "And how do you think he is related to the kidnappings?"

Summer listened carefully to the information and memorized the name of the man. She closely and attentively observed the pictures. "Excuse me I don't mean to interrupt but may I further examine the photographs of the man?" Summer asked as she stared at the figure of the man in photos and apologized to Bailee for delaying the answers to her questions. "And may I also ask, do you have any information on what vehicle he drives or his license plate number?"

Nick Pierce

The interested eyes scanned over his research. Nick had got their attention. "I know he is involved because about a week after he bought these strange items his balances went up a significant amount. This continued to happen for the fallowing months after. His purchases became more frequent and more expensive." he answered Bailee. "And the kind of car he drives is somewhere in these notes, look as long as you want." he sat back and relaxed in his chair. "And for those of you that weren't here when I introduced myself, my name is Nick Pierce. Nice to meet you all"

"Okay. And where was he last seen?" She asked again, noting things quickly, looking at him with interest. After such a long time of looking for Alec, she felt that participating in such a group like this would bring her closer to him. "And, have you received any more of those 'videos' from this person since his attempt at contact?"

Dawson stayed silent. He wasn't going to explain the only reason he's looking for the kid is because he still has a crush on a girl he has no chance with for over 15years. He began to to get frustrated a man like that's kids father isn't a man. Not even going out to look for his son! But Dawson was looking, Dawson knew he's a man. "I'm the man." he whispered to himself. He began listening to the man that gathered them.

Date rape drug? I thought that was made up for entertainment. How sick he thought.

Everyone was asking questions and writing things down. Dawson just stood observing and taking in their words. He was great at reciting and recalling information, it is part of his job after all.

Summer picked up the information on his car first and stood from her seat. "I'm going to call someone to get me a location on him now please give me a few minutes." Summer withdrew her cell phone from her purse and walked over to a different area in the lobby. She dialed the number of one of the officers she knew. "Hello Chris?..." She conversed with the man on her phone and gave him the information that she needed a follow up on. She walked back to the group and stated. "May I get everyone's email address or number because that way my buddy can keep everyone updated on this guys movements." She smiled as she held her phone in her hand.

"He was last seen at his home. Well that's where I last saw him. I haven't tracked him in a week." Nick responded. His eyes glanced over to Frank. He wanted to hear what the man had to say

"Address. I need specifics." Bailee simply replied, closing the top on the notepad and looking at Summer, who had excused herself from the group. She waved at her a little, a signal to come a little closer.

"I'm not giving away that info." He said as summer came back and gave it herself "well now you know" he scanned over the two of them "I hope you two don't think you are going at this alone. For all this to work we stick together and move as one force" Nick directed his attention at Summer "was that the police you just called?" He asked with slight frustration.

Frank padded the chest pocket of his blue and yellow Hawaiian shirt, quickly finding what he was looking for. He removed the tan, Camel cigarette’s package and put one between his lips, letting it hang there while he search for a lighter. He found it in his back pocket, a cheap Bic, and raised the flame. After a lung full he frowned and looked over the pictures and notes scattered on the table. He got lucky. Frank thought. Maybe it was true, maybe it wasn’t, but either way it didn’t much matter. Nick had something, even if it was a small something, and something was undoubtedly better than nothing.

Paul Simmens. Frank chuckled to himself. The name wouldn’t be hard to track down. He remained silent as several of the group asked questions about the information as if they were running some kind of tactical SWAT operation. Frank scratched his eyebrow and took another puff before holding the cigarette in his offhand. He cleared his throat. “Well.” He said. “Better than what I expected.” At least that much was true, though Frank still doubted the integrity of the information. Grieving father, walking through the streets of New Orleans armed. He might be seeing trails where there was none, and even a crazy person can sound convincing at times.

Nick was hesitant to get the police involved that much was clear. He’ll regret that later. Frank thought, but in truth he was grateful. Even if the man didn’t know what he was getting into, Frank did, and police were only going to make his job more complicated. The longer he could put that off, the better. He glanced towards Summer and wondered who she knew that would give her such sensitive and potentially illegal information. Cant be a cop. Frank thought, then knew better. Summer was a woman, and attractive. She had all the proper equipment for keeping any man on a short leash. Frank look at Nick and gave a dry laugh. “If it was, I hope you have a permit for that.” He waved his cigarette at the pistol holstered at Nick’s side.

I watched eagerly as Nick splayed out a bunch of documents and explained about a very credible lead. Summer moved off and contacted somebody about something but my attention was on the photographs. This was it, my way in to the kidnappers. I had assumed that there was more than one but a whole group? That was sick, and slightly liberating; this wouldn't be over soon and would provide me with a selfish outlet for my anger. I wanted to break some faces, crack some bones and feast on some much needed revenge.

"
This is impressive." I said bluntly, my hands desperately wanting to reach for my gun and find this man. Before I could inquire further, Summer walked back to the group and asked for our information. Alarm bells eagerly went off in my mind and I shook my head. "If we're going to stick together, I'd rather not give out my information. Sure, we can all relate to one another but that doesn't mean we're all trust worthy." I feel a little bad for saying what I'd been thinking but it had to be said. I would work with these people if it brought me closer to Alec, but the moment I found myself compromised or held back, I'd cut them lose. I rolled my eyes, that was the CIA part of me speaking - truthfully I was grateful. Grateful for the lead and to no longer be in this alone. "If you've got some information, let us have it. I've got a car parked outside, I can take four other people. Preferably those not conflicted about pulling a trigger." I retrieve my keys from my pocket and dangle them slightly.

"
Where to?" I direct my glance between Nick and Summer.

Nick Pierce

He glared slightly at Frank, the distrust radiated off him. "No its not legal. I didn't want the police to be able to track it back to me if I had to use it." his eyes went straight to Channing after her offer. "I would rather not chase him down with a group in the middle of the day." he stated dryly. Eyes slid over to Dawson, Nick waited for him to question.

Eden had been silent for a while. Of course, she'd been paying attention, but she hadn't said anything. Until today, until all of them had showed up, she hadn't realized that this was serious. The police refused to give her any information about her sister's kidnapping. She knew almost nothing. And it had just seemed like something they always warned people could happen.

But she wan't the only one who's loved one had been taken. She wasn't the only one who didn't know if they were alive or not. It was a comfort, of sorts. But at the same time, it made Eden's head hurt. They were dealing with a big deal. This could end in lots of people dying-including Elizabeth. She wasn't sure if she was ready to make a commitment to something this huge.

"No not the police themselves but my friend is doing me a favor. He's using the equipment at the department. He doesn't know anything other than I need to keep tabs on this guy." Summer looked at Nick as she spoke before looking back at the group, "Do you all want updates on this guy and his movements or not? Oh and Nick another thing I agree that we shouldn't go after him now but it's better to keep tabs on him so that once we come up with a plan we can go and trail him and see if we can find other members within their group. If we receive enough information on their group we can begin to take things to the street and see if we can get information of each of the individuals and we can attempt to figure out their weaknesses. I'm not stupid and doubt anyone in this room is stupid enough to go after a group by themselves unless their superman or superwoman or some other shit." Summer stated as she continued to stand before everyone.

I sigh at Nick. "Fine. I see your point, but what do you propose we do in the mean time? I'm sure the big guy over here is with me." I hook a thumb over my shoulder at the man with the beard. "Again, thanks, I guess I'll give you the number for my other burner cell." I look around for a few seconds and catch sight of some hotel stationery. The pages are yellowed, giving the impression that it's been there for quite some time. "Here. Texts only. I don't want to find out that your guy is a tech whiz capable of finding me with a two minute phone call." I smirk at her, trying to give my words a light hearted edge.

"
Now, why don't we head somewhere else? Even if they didn't mean to, I'm sure somebody saw us walk in here one after the other. The locals are going to know that a sudden surge in revenue for this place is nothing short of suspicious." I look around and wait for somebody to reply.

Summer smiled over at Selena and took her number. She gave Chris Selena's number before turning back to Selena, "Check your phone in a few minutes and you'll see he sent you a text asking for confirmation before he sends you the cars current location." She faced the rest of the group and asked, "Anyone else?" Summer wanted to make sure that if everyone was off doing their own thing that they'll all receive the information they needed. She folded the yellow stationary paper in half and placed it in her purse.
