Fantasy Virtual MMORPG Group Roleplay

If you want to write a good premise, I would recommend not trying to make it too "anime." SAO, .hack, and Log Horizon are all poor implementations of a really cool idea. The last time I saw this idea in use, 75% of the people ended up making depressed loner characters, which are not that interesting. Do you want your people to be "trapped" in the MMO or just playing it? If it is "trapped," why are they stuck there. (or is finding out part of the plot?) What is the reason for them being stuck there? Just make sure you answer any questions someone might have about the premise. If you want, I can help brainstorm a few ideas. (it looks like you already found your co-writer)

[QUOTE="The Doorman]Um, it's ethnicity, basement-dweller.

Stop calling me that.

Since you seem to have a good head on your shoulders. IF you want you can help too.

Race is skin color.

Ethnicity is your background IE. I am from Canada, but my mum is English and my pa is German.

NUP, BASEMENT-DWELLERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I wasn't going to make it too anime.

I just got an idea that it could be similar to the MMORPG Perfect World.

OOOOH, I know what you mean then *has played it*

Mmkay, you shoulda started with that, friend~

I am a basement adventurer.

I adventure things in the basement.

But I don't adventure the basement.

The wubwubs might eat me.

Ethnicity. Asian/black. Huh. Where do black people come from?

*nibbles on potato*

Oh yeah, we've joined with potatos too. They help us live. And they're great pets :)

I just really love this idea (having played way too much guild wars 2) and have been continuously frustrated at all of Japan's attempts.

Anyway, the first choice we should make is what kind of game it is. Do we want a high-fantasy or a sci-fi/cyberpunk MMO?

I was thinking it would be realistic.

Like, realistically, we'll be trapped in a game.

Yeah. That makes sense.

Totally.

I love the lingo that's going up in here, makes me a bit confused but at the same time I know what you mean xD

(New, so, bluh, yeah. (Not that new though, just new enough to get confused, lol.))

Do you have any ideas as to how the players would have become stuck in the MMO? (this is probably the hardest part. Brainstorming hard right now)

Wut?
Idea.

They get stuck by going in the game.

Done.

(I have no idea what you mean by that.)

What about the game caused them to be stuck? (ie, the manipulation of the virtual reality helmets in SAO)

I was thinking, now this might be a bit twisted. The creator of the game was power hungry and twisted, he'd always wanted his own world to rule over. So when he created the game he made it so people couldn't log out. Right there over a thousand subjects for him to play with and taunt like litle dolls.

for how they got stuck it would have to be because he created a glitch in the system to make sure they couldn't log out.

What if we made him someone who was rather antisocial as a child and wants to create a game world to live in for escapism. He could trap the other players in there with him and force them to be a part of his "new reality."

Yes, but why can't someone just unplug/take off the VR console?

Ooh, what if he could hear and edit?

He could really screw things up for them if they go against his word.
Ooh, and he could always create new bosses and shiz to screw things up for successful players.
