That book made a serious mess of things...

They also hinted at the return of Her Redness... and a heroic mortal book....

I wonder if they are going to do the Heroic Exalted... (the ones Autobots is supposed to create when he awakes).

I think 1E Autochtonians was one of the best books of the series. How did they "make a mess of things"?

The book had some sever contradictions with the previous setting and led to some strange conclusions, or worst unanswered questions, the biggest of all being the creation of Soulsteel, already wielding the power of Oblivion, long before the first Neverborn fell.

I doubt they'd do Heroic Exalted (go play some solars, you...), but they note that it's playing mortals in an Exalted world... so.

Why bother? You KNOW they will. I'd be surprised if they changed much more than the art and anything that needed to correspond to new rules.

Praying to the right god works... or so they say, I haven't found the right one yet !

Sounds like a swath of products I might actually want to buy...Scroll of Heroes and MoEP: Alchemicals in particular.

As if you could hit a diff 7 Charisma+Performance roll anyway.
Not as difficult as you might think. A solar with Charisma 4 performance 4 (2 die specialty) has done it on accident.

Considering the typical gamer has no more than 2 Charisma and is rarely ever even TRAINED in Performance, let alone having a prayer specialty, I think it's safe to say he's not gonna be hitting that mark.

Well I see they finally threw out the 5 books in each series idea.

I do hope they don’t tie the return of the empress (or any other creation defining event) into the cannon timeline like they did with the autothonians.

My last campaign I had some tentative planes that required the absence of the autothonian invasion, and I thought I would be good because the autothonians book went to a lot of trouble to say that nothing in it had to happen. Then one of my players points out a half dozen references in different second edition books that make it clear that excluding the autothonian invasion is now as significant a decision as eliminating the 7th legion or the bull of the north (IE a setting change you should inform your players about at the beginning of the campaign and you need to rework dozens of political relationships to fill the void),

So when the PC in question got a manse in the south he started reacting to the rumors of the locust men (which would have been no problem if I had realized they where canonical now, including them in your plans is no different than including the bull of the north, he exists wether the GM mentions him or not) this led to a big argument when he told me how he planed to use hid fortress manse to stem the invasion and I am saying, “what invasion, if I choose to use the autothonians the scouting before the invasion wont start for decades yetâ€, this argument contributed significantly to my abandonment of GMing for 6 months on the grounds that I clearly don’t know the setting well enough.

Now knowing that the locust invasion is part of cannon storyline I simply cant run a game set in the south that doesn’t include that war. Which is really annoying, I already had to wipe out the north east because I don’t want to use the bull of the north and I worry that the setting is going to be only usable for a dozen canonical conflicts.

Now the obvious response is that creation is huge but so are these conflicts, the locust crusade covers almost the entirety of the south, one fifth of creation.

Or you could use one of the different scenarios listed... which also includes... dum dum dum... the Autochtonians -dying- from the remains of the Contagion which they got from contact with humans in Creation.

Another solution is to make sure that the players know that your game isn't necessarily hardcore canon. Make sure they understand that if something isn't mentioned, they shouldn't assume it exists just 'because it's in canon.' *shrugs* Or, tell them flat out, 'this is my version of the setting. It doesn't include these things because I don't want to run them.' If they can't accept that, they're being rather hidebound, in my opinion. It's boring to assume that 'because it's canon' it has to exist...how is the storyteller going to surprise you, then?

Also coming up after that are the Scroll of Exalts' date=' which is a big roster of movers and shakers from the setting (including all the sig characters),[/quote']
Um...

That book's just gonna be chock-ful of charm lists, isn't it?

Well I see they finally threw out the 5 books in each series idea.
Have they? Other than the Manuals of Exalted Power?

All five directions, Celestial and Terrestrial, are accounted for. There are going to be five Scrolls, and all 5 Books of Sorcery are out.

DotFA and Graceful Wicked Masques are exceptions, sure, but likely the exceptions that make the rule. I don't see Return of the Empress bucking that trend.

The MoEPs weren't numbered in the first place, so maybe this is all according to the plan.

Why do I get this feeling that the books as of late are intended to surprise the old-time fans of the game?

Where is this scenario you speak of? <.< >.>

Also... core + 5 manuals of exalted power (DB, Lunar, Sideral, Abyssal, and now Alchemicals)... the theme of 5 seems to hold true.

I fully agree. There's something really cool about building a type of Exalted around a theme of Transformers meets Terminator meets Fembots. You gotta love it.

The MoEPs are for the DBs, the Lunars, the Sidereals, the Abyssals, the Infernals and then the Alchemicals. With just the Infernals, it would have been 5... which is why I always suspected that the Alchemicals would be out of series like the Graceful Wicked Masques. The Alchemicals aren't fully Exalted in the sense the other Exalts are, so. :|
