Realistic or Modern University on Deck

Ryo looked at Edward jaw dropped. Welp, guess we found the student of the year! Although there was no way he would let this twirp outdo him in math. This was Ryo's best subject, he began to take calculus in the 8th grade with a private tutor, and excelled quickly, he would be able to do whatever in class, and HE would have to give others a turn to answer. This guy was rich and liked to show it off, proving that he was the best. If there was one thing Ryo's father taught him it was, that you never show off with your money, you use it to get a few cars, a big enough house, and then you try to be generous with the rest of it. You consider yourself an equal to others, not rubbing it in their faces, even if you are the richest, or the best. You don't just show off your money, you try to make friends and socialize, you put effort into your classes. Even if you don't like them. Like he would today, after he finished his breakfast, but not before.

Ryo could still remember his fathers words a week before he came to this place "The most important things in life have nothing to do with money, for they are Knowledge, and Friendship. The people you meet in your life are more important than money, especially that one special person in your life, who I am sure you will find. Remember that son." Ryo remembered it word for word. And lived by it. It made him more humble, actually embarrassed to have more money than he knew what to do with. The only time he didn't feel bad about being rich was when he saw his cars...

Nia just looked around "yeah... what they said." She said quietly. Sitting still as she waited for what came next, actually paying attention now.
-
Joji watched as two students came in late. Completely ignoring the two of them and focusing on the class. He did smile at the students response however. As he then snapped his fingers and pointed at the classroom.
"Yes! There you go. You guys got it. We study history, so that we may learn from the mistakes and success of those before us. And therefore be better off as a result. Because when I think back to our history... I see lives that could have been saved." He took a breath. "Now then." He opened up his bag and pulled out a bunch of paper. "Here's your syllabus. Read it. Keep it. It's important. Pass em around" he gave the stack to Edward and sat on his desk.
(Idk what to say now.... XD)

Lav Koda

Lav was scribbling down notes furiously, determined to have this year actually count as opposed to her wasted early high school years. There was a domino effect on her life, and she prayed that she wouldn't fall into another chain of events that caused her to spiral. She would just continue to be cheeky and cheery all in one, ignoring what happened in the wee hours of the night last night. Back when she slipped into bed a drunken mess with her hair wet and eyes watery. But she managed to wake up in one piece, not with any hang over at all.

When Edward gave his response to the teacher, she wanted to make kissing sounds from her vexation. Old habits die hard. She instead decided to write down part of his answer into her notes as a summary of history's importance. Lav was starting to understand the type of person he was, however. Pretentious. Enough said. It wasn't a hard type to find. No one said she wasn't the type to judge. She did, on occasion when it was met with annoyance. First impressions stick like a strong magnet.

Lav began to let her mind wander as cats appeared on her page, and she blinked after realizing that about 3 of them had come out of nowhere. Damn. Pay attention. She went back to writing, hoping the professor wouldn't walk by and criticize her before she reached page 2. Her eyes shyly wandered toward Jackson, and she pondered upon what he'd be doing right now.

Sara Hisashi

Sara looked in the direction of the girl who'd spoken to answer the question first. Hallway Girl. So that's what she sounded like. Would it be useful to befriend her? Keeping the thought in the back of her mind, she took a second to glance around the room again. Lav was taking notes... but on what, exactly? The lesson had only just begun. Watching her made Sara feel uneasy and restless. Should she be writing down something, too? Her gaze passed over Jackson, who appeared to be bored, then Nia, who was surprisingly silent. Considering how outgoing the girl had been before, she was silent and didn't participate as much as Sara had initially expected her to. As she scanned the classroom briefly, she managed to catch a glimpse of James in the corner. A small voice in the back of her head wasn't allowing her to rid her thoughts of guilt and regret for having called his brother without having checked with him first. Her skin bristled at her thoughtlessness. What if Jason had been someone else? She now knew that James had some sort of bad rep; that could easily have been someone threatening or potentially dangerous. Taking a closer look at James, she realized that his body language suggested he was unnerved or on edge. Didn't seem comfortable, to say the least. Her head snapped back to the front of the room, her face burning slightly. She'd been staring at him for well over a minute. Hopefully, he didn't notice.

She tuned back into class as she heard the door creak open. Two students entered class late. Without apologizing, both the girl and the boy seated themselves. It was odd, but she decided not to make much of it. There must've been a reasonable explanation behind their lateness. She was, however, surprised when "Doctor" Hashimoto didn't react to their rather dramatic entrance. Turning back to Edward, she listened to him speak. Her eyes flicked back to him immediately, giving him her undivided attention. He delivered a perfect answer; she couldn't have said it better. Sara wrote down what he'd said in point form after writing the date in the top left with a heading. Hopefully, her hard work would pay off this year unlike the previous years of schooling she'd been through. Sara patiently waited for him to hand her the syllabus.

Jackson Hayashi

Jackson indifferently stared at the professor before him. Did the older man really just let the two students do as they pleased? Then again it was the first day of class. Most people were late anyway. Eh. Jackson thought narrowing his attention onto Doctor Hashimoto after shrugging off the whole scenario.

The professor officially started off by placing a stack of syllabi onto a light-haired student's desk. The copies seemed average from what Jack could make out from afar. It was nothing a simple or challenging professor would create, which was an interesting thought. Was Hashimoto strict or easy going? Jack couldn't decide from the different reactions the professor exhibited. Pretty soon Doctor Hashimoto jumped into the usual classroom introductions. Of course, what would a first day of class be without the personal thirty second elevator pitch.

Jackson waited for someone to speak first, but there was only silence lingering throughout the room. He glanced over his shoulder to check if anyone even budged to make a move, only to catch Lav looking right at him. The guy simply blinked in response and faced Dr. Hashimoto once again. Is no one gonna go first? This long pause was usually the case for class intros. After a couple of seconds, the young man stood
up to get the ball rolling. Jackson smoothly turned around since most people were seated behind him anyway. His grey eyes moved from each and every single person as he spoke, "Jackson Hayashi, third-year. I work part-time as a photographer on this ship and like going on adventures." His introduction was simple. In fact, it probably laid out the criteria that everyone would soon follow. It was a simple grade, random fact, and one thing he liked formula. These factors were the most practical things to mention since Hashimoto vaguely told them to say a few things. Jackson sat down in his seat, but continued to look behind him to watch who would go next.

Lav Koda

Lav knew that the professor had asked them to introduce themselves, but she simply debated on which quality to bring up that didn't seem.. Braggish. But perhaps it was much simpler than that. Jackson's eyes met her own and she squeaked under her breath, feeling a brutal facial flush coming on. Why did he have to stump her so badly? She knew the answer; a crush. But why did it have to happen so soon? Why couldn't she just enjoy a few days before attaching her emotions to another human being?

Lav heard Jackson's voice as she peered over the syllabus, and her heart jumped hard. For a minute, she thought his voice was just in her head. But that wasn't the case. He was introducing himself; the first to do so. That had to count for something. Her competitive spirit jumped into place, and she stood up right as he finished, giving him a calm, collected nod; followed by one to the teacher. "I am Lav Koda. I play the violin daily, sew blankets, and fish when I get the chance. Thank you for your interest." She smiled gently before bowing to the teacher and seating herself again, returning to her 'notes' which mostly consisted of doodling.

However, this was a good chance to get information on everyone, so she began to write down everyone's description and names as they introduced themselves, writing their qualities down along with them.

James couldn't stop his foot from tapping against the floor from his stressed out nerves. He tried to ease his nerves by paying attention to the others, but after listening to the guy he had found at the bar the other day explain why history was important his brain only began to hurt. He sighed and rested his chin into his palm as the teacher passed out everyone's syllabus and instructed people to introduce themselves. Jackson was the first up and then this Lav chick followed him. James gave a bored sigh and closed his eyes. 'Might as well get it over with,' he thought to himself and raised his hand into the air and snapped his fingers to get everyone's attention. He was to lazy to get up. "Names James Connor, I'm from the U.S and lived in good old Detroit. That's all ya need to know," he said plainly before yawning. His head was still pounding, someone could have seen dangerous shit on his phone and his eyes felt as if they were about to close shut for good. This day couldn't possibly get any worse.

Looking around briefly, Chasity shrugged and stood up next, her hair still a little bit of a mess from earlier.
"My name's Chasity. It's a pleasure, everyone. I'm a musician and performer, as well as an early bird that can't get to places on time. Anyway, that's it..."

The door to the classroom burst open just as Chasity was finishing her introduction, Lunabï bursting in, panting, sweating visible on her forehead.
"Shit. I'm so sorry I'm late, I overslept".

Edward Pennington
e2c804d0ba9a438cce4c6ba5d4f4710d.jpg
Edward could tell from the way the teacher handled himself that he was more laid back than strict. A laid back and an easy going teacher was something that was alien to him as he had to make sure that he was nigh flawless in every single subject he was tutored in. Although it was extremely horrible in terms of his enjoyment, the results of this somewhat harsh climate he had to learn in were clearly apparent. This observation only meant that he had to adapt. But that was no issue.

Much like the teacher, Edward ignored all of the students that came late. Well, he tried at the very least. Deep down, he did resent them a tiny bit as being late to the very first day of the school was nothing short of incompetence and irresponsibility. He then noticed that a few of his classmates writing down notes in their notebooks. This slightly confused him as there was no real material that was yet covered for them to take notes on. A tiny smile crept up to his face as the thought that his answer being so perfect that it was noted down by others popped up in his head. The teacher asked the students to introduce themselves before starting the lesson and as they were doing so, Edward grabbed a paper from the pile that was set on his desk and then passed the pile on to Sara. There was no way that he would go around the entire classroom and pass the papers to the others one by one. His energy was far to valuable for that. Taking a moment to look at the syllabus, Edward waited for everyone else to introduce themselves. This seemed to be a pattern with him. Even when playing chess he would almost always prefer the black side as he was the type of person who preferred to adapt to the moves of his opponent rather than use his intuition to blindly make a move.

She was completely mortified knowing that she was the first one to spoke about why history was important. Her tension slightly eased when two students were late to class, perhaps the attention would shift to them instead. When her roommate spoke up about why history was important, she was a bit irritated at first. That's exactly what I said...just better wording and more details, she thinks to herself. At least Dr. Hashimoto didn't chide her for her dumb answer. Of course the first time she answered a question and someone had to outdo her. Kasumi was feeling incompetent to the rest of her classmates and she wanted to simply run away and hide. She figured the teacher wouldn't like it if she just left.

One of the students that was late pulled out some food to eat and she was confused by this. To her surprise, the teacher made no comment on them being absent. It wasn't too long before yet another student came in late as well. The teacher didn't seem as bad until he asked them to say her worst nightmare: an introduction. Great, what was she supposed to say about herself? As Kasumi looks around, she saw that some students were writing down some notes. It wouldn't be a bad idea, especially since she didn't get to meet any of them yet. Kasumi writes basic notes down about her classmates, she was terrible with names, and hopefully this would help her remember.

One by one, her classmates were giving introductions and she could feel her heart racing. She knew that she was going to be the last one if she didn't introduce herself now. Kasumi takes a deep breath and stands up slowly. "I'm Kasumi..but I prefer to be called Cheiko...that's my middle name.." She pauses, not sure why she was explaining to them about her middle name, doubting that they even cared. "Uhm.." she was looking around her classmates, getting more nervous. What was she supposed to tell them? She wasn't that interesting of a person. "I like reading and travelling the world," she says at last before sitting down in her seat, trying to avoid eye contact.

Ryo waited, he wanted to hear everyone's replies before he went. He was more interested in learning about the oers than everyone learning about himself. He felt the others life stories more important than his. Not to mention the fact that he didn't want to tell them about his dad, who had made a fortune in the stock market. So, he waited curious what everyone would say. He then pulled out his binder and began taking notes on the student's correct answers, and what other people had said about them selves. He had all his notes written neatly in an outline that he would later be able to understand.

He may not of cared for history, but his dad did. His dad was the one who had insisted on him taking the subject. He was also tempted to walk into the classroom tommorow, his water bottle labeled, teachers tears. This teacher seemed pretty understanding, he had let him finish his pancakes! He would probably apologize, after class now at he was on a full stomach and thinking clearly. This seemed like the kind of teacher that could take a joke, but was serious about his students education. Ryo seemed to have more respect for the man now.

Nia stood up and quickly made her way to the front of the class. She gave the class a wave. "Hello! My name is Nia Davion. Uhm... I like cookies. And making friends. And adventure. I look forward to meeting all of you!" And with that she sat down.

Joji glared at Lunabï
"young lady!" He walked over to her and staring her down. Judging by how he was handling himself, he looked mad. "Don't swear in my goddamn classroom." He said in a joking tone with a smile. Doing a 180 in terms of attitude. "I understand if your late. I'm not counting tardies for the first week. Giving you all some time to adjust." He went back to his desk. "Oh. And on the subject of swearing. You're all adults here. So it's perfectly fine, so long as it's not used to insult. I'm okay with it."

Sara Hisashi

Sara turned her chair so that it was facing the rest of the class, watching as each student rose one by one to introduce themselves. She disliked class introductions with a burning passion. They involved specifying what they were good at, or what they liked to do, and Sara hated having to rack her brain to come up with something so that she didn't come off as completely boring. First up was Jackson, whose words seemed to flow with ease. Part-time as a photographer... that was something she didn't know. Lav stood seconds after him, her composed attitude sending Sara into panic mode. What the hell was she supposed to say? She listened to Lav speak, picking up on her ability to play the violin. Interesting that she knew how to sew as well. Hearing a snap, her eyes flicked over to the right corner where James had started to speak. Detroit? Her eyes narrowed as she recalled the phone call with Jason. Trouble with the law in a place like the U.S. couldn't be any good. How much shit had he gotten into? She only knew vague bits and pieces of information about him. Her curiosity was making it harder and harder for her not to care.

After James had introduced himself, another girl came into the classroom. She couldn't hear what the girl had said, but Hashimoto's reaction didn't seem to be a good one. She couldn't pin his attitude down just yet. She raised an eyebrow as he mentioned how it was all right to swear. All her previous teachers had taken offense to vulgar language or anything of the likes, even if it wasn't used to insult someone. It was nice to know that he was chill. It took a while before the next person stood. Hallway Girl now went by Cheiko, who liked to read and travel.

Sara looked up, a small smile appearing on her face as Nia started speaking. The redhead was filled with enthusiasm and levels of energy that she could only wish to have. After she seated herself, Sara looked around the room to see if anyone else was about to speak. Passing a quick glance to Edward, who didn't seem to have any intention of introducing himself at that moment, she swallowed. Knowing she had to do it sometime soon, she rose from her seat, sitting on her desk. "Hi, I'm Sara Hisashi." Shit, now what? "I like... tech. And photography, and travelling. And I love chocolate and coffee." It was really a mix of what everyone else had already said, but she couldn't find anything different to say. It wasn't as if she was lying anyways. Sitting back down in her chair, she waited for the remaining students to give their introductions. Letting her mind wander, she thought about when class would be over, regardless of the fact that it had only just started.

Lunabï had tensed when her teacher addressed her, biting her lips. She was on the verge of tearing up.

Even after he had lightened up, Lunabï still looked upset. She didn't mean to curse, sitting in the seat next to her sister and played with an elastic band that she carried. It calms her down.

Edward Pennington

Edward took out a binder from his bag where he placed the syllabus after carefully studying it. He wanted to get a good idea of what they were going to cover so that he could better prepare himself. The introductions of his classmates were all pretty much the same and were of no importance to him at that point. He simply registered the full names of them in his head and tried his best to get an idea of the kind of person they were. Wanting to get it over with quickly, Edward stood upright and then cleared his throat. "I am Edward Pennington." After his short introduction, he sat down. It was not necessary for him to include any details about himself other than his name. If they wanted to know, they would simply have to ask him later. And even then, depending on the person, he would not reveal too much.

For the rest of the lesson, Edward will take notes and make them as detailed, neat and organised as possible. He won't ask any questions from the teacher as he would be dead set on trying to comprehend everything on his own. Besides, the "student's tears" thing really did not sit well with him. A teacher is supposed to be a source of knowledge, advice and mentorship, not silly nonsense. If he gets asked questions by Sara, he will try his best to quietly explain it all to her. In these explanations he will only spew facts and be completely objective. When asked a question by the teacher, he will stand up, answer it as well as possible and then sit back down.

Oh crap! Everyone had gone, except someone who was obviously Chasity's sister. He decided he better introduce himself. "My name is Ryo Emeraude, and I major in Business and Violin." He felt no need to say anything else, and sat down, pencil at the ready. He had already taken notes of what everyone had said about themselves so far. He was prepared to take note of what Chasity's sister had to say, but with obviously shy nature, would she speak? Would she even stand? Would Chasity have to speak for her? The girl was so delicate, and she seemed like the type that would be friendly once you got to know her. But what are the odds of her letting you inside? Ryo's mind was buzzing with activity.

Chasity whispered something to her little sister, looking a bit sad as Lunabï shook her head but stood up. Lunabï looked at her classmates before gulping audibly and lowering her head. "I... I'm Lunabï. And... I... I..." She grew more nervous with each second that passed. In the end, she just stood there, tears flowing down her face. Chasity was up and rubbing her back.
"Lunabï plays guitar and likes to read" Chasity spoke for her, Lunabï sitting back down. Chasity sat back down after.

Oh no! That poor girl. He felt pity for her. Chasity was there for her though. So that helped. Lunabi was such lovely name. He couldn't stop feeling bad for her, it wasn't her fault she was soft spoken. It was obviously a challenge for the girl to even stand up in front of a class full of people.

As class ended he went up to the teacher and said, "I apologize for eating in class sir, I was hungry, and we were late. It won't happen again." He then looked at the teachers water bottle before leaving, it was so awesome!

Jackson Hayashi and Katarina Deangelo

10:30am-10:37am

Once they were dismissed, Jackson stood up from his seat and walked out the room with a notebook casually tucked under his arm. History was kind of a bore to him, but he did take useful notes. Thirty minutes to wake up. He thought moving a hand through his hair. The guy didn't sleep during class. He just felt tired from the previous night's adventure. If there was any place to snap some sense back into his mind, it was probably going to be where all the sightseeing usually happened. Sure it was all blue sea, but the fact that the whole ship was simply riding on a massive body of water amused Jackson for no apparent reason. After finally stepping onto the deck's edge, h
is body leaned against the railing and looked at the ocean they were sailing on. That happened until Jack paused at a loud shriek.
"BAKA!" Katarina growled stomping her little legs over to her older cousin. It didn't surprise her when her half-blooded cousin turned to show her an indifferent facial expression. "I was looking around for you the entiiire night!" The young girl exclaimed waving her arms wildly in the air. As usual, Katarina had to put on a show with her acting skills. "I saw Lady Mama on this ship and almost fainted. Where . . WHERE WERE YOU?! I even made a search squad for you! I gave them . . FREE FOOD!" She continued as her eyes began to water with sadness. Even her tiny fist was clenched in the air!

Jackson watched as his younger cousin's eyes began to water in exhaustion. In an instinct, he picked her up so that she could get on his level. It still wasn't really clear to Jackson as to why Katarina was so intent on finding him though. "All I had was Robert. ROBERT! I-I thought you left me!" The young girl said looking into her cousin's cold grey eyes.

"Oi Katarina, I'll never leave you," Jackson mentioned using his other hand to wipe a tear before it fully rolled down her cheek. Then it hit him. It was Katarina's first time traveling without any of her parents by her side. Of course she would feel frightened if she didn't at least know where Jack was. After a few seconds of staring at Jackson, Katarina almost hugged the life out of him.

That was one point for her! Katarina laughed with watery eyes after exercising her newest skill, fake crying. Although, she had to admit it. Inside the girl was pretty glad he was still there for her.

Lav Koda

Lav stretched as class ended, surprised the seat of her pants had not fallen asleep, as she would so graciously put it. It was a calm steadiness as the small class exited the room and went out into the hall, waving her goodbyes to the teacher. The notes she had taken were stuffed to the brim with doodles, some of them overpowering the page. There was one profound side sketch of the teacher as he angled himself to write on the board and talk to the students at the same time; she conquered his apathy at a point. A point in class when all teachers have a moment of frustration. But it didn't last long, as he passionately continued to blurt on about the previous wonders of the world.

In the hallway, Lav pulled out her schedule that she had written out and dropped her binder, spilling its contents everywhere. Her sticker collection came out, even, and that made her panic as students stepped on it. "
Hey!" She snarled in a mighty tone; well, as might as you could get for being Lav. Sighing, she stuffed it all away in her backpack and stood up straight again. Her back ached, and she wanted to head to the bathroom to check the status of the bruising. The silver haired girl wanted to go to the pool, but it may not be possible with such abuse showing so belligerently all over her back.

Her eyes caught Jackson, however, holding a younger girl and wiping her tears away. She was clearly red faced and flustered about something. Who was that? Her curiosity ate at her. She had a break before the next class started.. Why not ask? There were a thousand reasons why not. Jackson was interested in other things at the moment, and she didn't want to interrupt. But her legs carried her toward him, making her heart speed. She didn't want to make this a scene, so she simply began with a "Hi there! I'm Jackson's roommate. Lav. Hey Jack. Everything okay? Who's this cutie?" Lav beamed, waving nimbly to the two. She did feel like an intrusion, but perhaps this would only spark positives.

Why did she doubt that so much? Her face began to flush. She adjusted the straps of her backpack and pulled up her cat eared hoodie, her hip length hair dangling delicately at her sides.

Jackson Hayashi and Katarina Deangelo

10:40am-10:43am

A familiar voice caught Jackson's attention causing him to look directly at Lav. He was about to respond, but Katarina had already snapped back to her usual self. "Aww! She's so cute!" The little girl replied grabbing Lav's cat ears while still being carried by Jackson. The older cousin slightly furrowed his brows at the little Italian "princess" in his arms. "Yo, Kit Kat don't do that," He stated putting Katarina back down on the ground. The last thing he wanted was to owe his roommate a . . . cat suit thing.

Ever so slowly did the little girl feel the soft cat ears slip away from her tiny grip. She momentarily glared at Jackson after being placed on the ground. That indifferent cousin of her's never understood the meaning of cuteness. Katarina let out a huff before looking up at Lav and beaming back, "I'm Katarina Deangelo, his cousin!" It took the young girl a few seconds to realize something though.

"
Wait . . JACKSON'S ROOMMATE?!" She bellowed looking the woman up and down with her mouth ajar. By God this Lav was beautiful! Katarina immediately looked back at her cousin who was simply eyeing the ocean beside them, while rubbing the back of his neck. "Jackson, do something!" The little girl demanded astounded by the silver-haired woman before her.

Jackson's gaze shifted over to his little cousin prior to landing on Lav. "Katarina go to class," He stated plainly glancing back at the excited munchkin. The brown-haired girl growled, "That's not what I meant!" Despite their little misunderstanding, Jackson was right. Her break time was almost over. "Whatever. Peace, dudes," She said cooly walking away from the two with a deuce sign.

It didn't take long for her to quickly run back though and tug Jackson's shirt. Jack replied by bending to her level just before getting attacked by a light kiss on his right cheek. He closed his right eye like it hurt. Shortly after, Katarina gave Lav a hug and ran away.

Queen. Queen. (kinda weird tagging you Lav ha)

Lav Koda

As Katarina, his apparent cousin, playing with her cat ears, Lav giggled and let it happen until Jackson put her down, asking her to cut it out. She introduced herself and there was a moment before she realized her relationship to Jackson, duking it out with him by saying he 'Had to do something'. She smiled bigger than normal, covering her mouth with both her hands as she peeked up at Jackson. She let the two talk for a bit before Katarina surprised Lav with a hug so fast that she didn't even have time to return it before the little girl ran off. Lav giggled uncontrollably, tickled by what just happened. "Your cousin is so cute. I like her." She told him, still grinning wildly.

She was feeling sentimental, not having been hugged by another person in a very, very long time. So that was.. Special, needless to say. Even if she was just a little kid, it meant a lot to Lav. Back at home, she kept her friends at arms length so that they would never ask to come over and see what kind of father she had. Or worse; have him hurt them like he hurt her. But back to the current circumstances, Jackson was before her very eyes. He wasn't much of a talker, but she learned more about him in class. Deciding it would be a good idea to bring it up, she opened her mouth to say, "Adventurer and photographer, hm? What else is there to you that I don't know?" Lav chuckled, crossing her arms and tilting her head to the side in curiosity.

She popped one hip to the side, loving being significantly shorter than most other people. It made her feel like she could blend in, anywhere at anytime. "I'm actually crocheting a blanket back at the room.. It's for you. I'm almost done with it. It's just that there's a draft at night sometimes. I don't want you to catch a cold." Koda shyly admitted, twiddling her thumbs a touch and looking away with blush in her face.
