27 : kieran : she/her : galar : acrobatics, athletics, religion, insight, history

Loud, foul mouthed, and always looking to scrap with someone twice their size, Kieran is often written off as a troublesome thug. In truth, they're really just hoping for someone to match their energy. Can't find someone to grapple with if you don't make it known you're looking to fight, right? Kieran is a tax paying citizen of Galar, so really the thug bit is entirely off the mark. In fact, her gran made a point to teach Kieran that it's important to do right by themselves and others. They have a strong head on their shoulders and an unwavering dedication to upholding her morals

Kieran was raised by their grandparents. Her gran is a cook and devote follower of the Stone, meanwhile gramps is a butcher and semi-retired boxing instructor. Not strictly official, the boxing, but it keeps some of the youth of Hammerlocke out of trouble. Kieran was one of those youths. Ever since they were eight-years-old, she was learning to fight. She helped out her gramps with his butchering in exchange for starting lessons a little earlier than most the kids her age. Kieran fell in love with the blood, sweat, and tears that went into fighting.

Naturally, their love for boxing and martial arts made bonding with her Pokémon easy. Kieran challenged their Machoke to a match and lost within the first round. When she came back the next day, and the day after that, it seemed that the Machoke had found a human to bond with. Funny enough, Kieran and her Tyrogue experienced the opposite scenario. Tyrogue perceived Kieran as a opponent to challenge and the rest was history. Then, their Pancham just... wandered into Kieran's life one day. Must have been watching her for a while. After a match in the back room of her gramp's butcher shop, Pancham followed Kieran around the city and mimicked their every move. Kieran couldn't get the Pancham to stop. Still, to this day, she's yet to get rid of them (and she never will.)

Life in Hammerlocke wasn't so bad, between her gran and gramps, the boxing, her Pokémon, there wasn't much to complain about. That is, of course, until the Stone they had grown up praying to suddenly decided to crack open. Gran always said there was more to the Stone, some kind of spiritual energy, but even she didn't expect it to be a giant Pokémon capable of summoning a never ending storm of darkness. The incident caused her gran to suffer from a heart attack. Kieran was able to rush her gran to the local doctor, but evacuations in Hammerlocke didn't offer much time for recovery. They were moved down to Motostoke within a day and her gran's been bed ridden ever since.

At first, Kieran remained at their gran's bedside. The threat of the black storm made her uneasy, however, and so she became restless and fidgety. Kieran kept talking about ways that maybe someone could fix the Stone and bring back the sun. Her ideas were outlandish, of course, but her gramps could see that Kieran couldn't let go of the situation. After three weeks, he finally sat Kieran down and told them there was no point in sitting around talking about it.

"Go out and fix the sky, then. Yer gran's not gettin' any better with all yer yappin."

Kieran laughed, and cried, then went to pack. She's spent the last week traveling in hopes of figuring out how in the hell she's going to do it.

25 : Caelum : they/them : cleric : kalos : medicine, religion, perception, persuasion, history

Caelum is, at their core, a curious individual. If there's one thing that's remained true throughout their life, it's been their insatiable desire to know and understand and learn. They will go out of their way to acquire new information, taking frequent trips to libraries or any store that might sell books. The only other desire that comes close to the pursuit of knowledge is their desire to do good and be useful to those around them. Growing up in a church, Caelum was taught to be humble and generous, especially to those in need. A kind soul, Caelum doesn't wish harm upon anyone, and instead believes that those who do harm to others will have their just desserts in time.

Found abandoned on the doorstep of a church just outside Laverre City, Caelum was taken in by the nuns that lived there, to be raised in a religious setting. The church believed in the powers of life and healing, and prayed to Xerneas for their divine powers. As such, Caelum holds many of the same beliefs, as that was what they were raised with. As a child, Caelum expressed interest in everything, absorbing every little scrap of information like a sponge. They'd spend hours roaming around the sparse woods and wide fields behind the church, or take a trip into town with one of the nuns to find a new book to read, which would surely be read cover to cover within the 24 hours of receiving it. It was around this time that Caelum would meet a Happiny in the woods, the small Pokemon having been separated from its mother due to a terrible storm. Unable to locate the mother, Caelum took the Happiny to the church with them. The nuns were skeptical at first, but agreed that Caelum could keep her as long as they took good care of her.

In their teen years, Caelum's curiosity turned from anything and everything, into curiosity aimed particularly towards religion and the myths surrounding rare Pokemon. While they maintained their faith in Xerneas, Caelum didn't shy away from learning about other religions as well, the Galarian belief in the Stone being one of their favorites to read about. Happiny had been so well taken care of that the nuns had gifted Caelum an oval stone to help evolve the Happiny, if they both so desired. Happiny evolved during an excursion into the fields one day, when the two happened upon an injured Togetic that had been pecked nearly to death by a swarm of Spearow. With Chansey defending them, they managed to bring the injured Togetic back to the church to be healed.

War was on the horizon. Caelum knew it was coming, as did everyone else in town. The nuns feared it, as war meant death and destruction in its wake. Caelum knew it would only be so long before they were expected to fight, and the thought terrified them. They could never take a life, it simply wasn't in them to do so. So they fled. In the dead of night, with no witnesses save for the two Pokemon at their back, Caelum left behind their life and everything they ever knew. They made their way to Coumarine, knowing the port there would be ideal for stowing away. They ignored the panicked, fearful voices of the incoming refugees they passed while sneaking aboard a boat bound for Galar. While stowing away, Caelum found themselves in frequent contact with another stowaway, a small Eevee who definitely didn't belong there. Over the course of the voyage, the two became fast friends.

Making port in Hulbury, Caelum quickly melded into the crowd of refugees and panhandlers, just another body in the crowd. They finally heard the words of the locals, warning them not to go to Hammerlocke, talking about the dark storm, but the locals' warnings didn't dissuade Caelum from wandering about the region. The devastation the storm brought was evident, and they can't help but feel immense pity and sorrow for the people of Galar, which fuels their desire to be of use to those who need help. So despite their own refugee status, Caelum took up what they did best, assisting and learning, traveling the region in hopes to find some kind of sense of safety and purpose.

Pholiotia Tenebrae
[she/her, 22 years old]

Origin: Unova

Class: Fighter

Skills:
Athletics
Investigation
Insight
Perception
Survival

Pokemon:
Mandibuzz
Mienfoo
Chimecho

Biography:

Even today, the cosmopolitan Unova region is not without its flaws and struggles, what more three thousand years ago. The civil war that led to the land of Unova coalescing into a somewhat coherent entity is still in living memory among the oldest inhabitants of the land, and while the child of the Hero of Truth rules from the Pyre Castle surrounded by a vibrant city and verdant farmland, there are still many smaller settlements and cities spread out across Unova that engage in small-scale skirmishes, some bending the knee to the philosophy of Truth and others maintaining their own independence or forming coalitions. It continues to be a time of struggle.

And into this time of struggle came a young orphan girl who never knew her parents. Growing up in the city of Virbank, one of the more developed cities of the period due to its advantageous position as a seaport, she could not remember a day when life was not a struggle. She found herself stealing and swindling for her own survival, not looking further than the next silver coin or piece of food. It was on an occasion where she was fleeing from the guards of a foreign merchant whose purse she snatched that she found herself hiding under a pile of refuse, atop which sat a Vullaby. When the guards approached, trying to search for the girl, the scavenging beast screeched, flapped, and clawed, fending them off until they gave up, under the reasoning that no one would choose to hide in such a place for long, anyway.

When the girl emerged, she was overcome with gratitude, even if her face didn't show it. Since then, the girl and the Vullaby bonded together, becoming partners in crime.

Some time later, the girl was approached by a masked figure, cloaked in black, who asked her to come with them. Used to this type of danger, the girl and her bird fled, leading the stranger on a chase through the city. Just when she thought she'd escaped, the stranger stepped out in front of her, easily subduing her and Vullaby, again extending their offer to take her to a place where she would not have to struggle for her meals, but also be given a new duty and purpose.

Quietly, she agreed.

With that, the stranger took her to one of the bases of the Order of Tenebrae, one of many organizations formed in secret by those who were still loyal to the Hero of Ideals and worshiped the Dragon of Thunder. Many of the recruits of the Order of Tenebrae were similarly disenfranchised and discontent people, or those devoted enough to the ideal of Justice to seek out the Order by their own volition.

And so it was that this young girl accepted the name "Pholiota Tenebrae", and began her training as a Justicar, a member of the Order tasked to travel across the land in a role not unlike a circuit judge, spending most of their time in the wilderness and smaller settlements to serve as an arbiter of disputes between individuals who would be unable to settle (or resort to frontier justice otherwise), and to quell human criminals and violent Pokemon in emergencies.

The training was physically rigorous, on top of including detailed study of the history of the region, the laws of the land, and the Order's own scriptures. Over the course of Pholiota's training, she and Vullaby became closer and stronger together, and the day came when she was ready to assume her duties, and Vullaby grew into Mandibuzz. As the elders of the Order said, the beginning of her duties was only the beginning of a lifetime of learning. To that end, she was provided an unruly Mienfoo, in the hope that she could grow into a teacher that could discipline it, as well as a Chimecho that served as standard equipment for the Justicars, its chime to be rung during judicial proceedings under the belief that its sound could calm violent spirits and help them to comply with the Ideal of Justice, whether or not they needed to be physically confronted, first.

Eventually, the Order of Tenebrae heard tell of the crisis that was formenting within the Galar region. To her great surprise, Pholiota was chosen by the oracles of the order to travel to the region, to do what she could in order to bring an end to the threat of Eternatus. After all, if it could engulf all of Galar, who knew if any other region would be safe? Quietly accepting her duty, Pholiota set out on a new journey, heading further than she had ever been before.

Even from her childhood, Pholiota was stoic and taciturn, certainly rarely in a position to make conversation with someone. With the focus and direction given to her by the Order, she is highly dutiful and dedicated to her job. While not outwardly so much of a fanatic as to impose her interpretation of the Order's ideal on every situation, she tends to be inflexible and have trouble working with outsiders. And more than ever before, she is surrounded by outsiders. What will be her contribution to solving the crisis of Eternatus? Only time will tell.

27 - Arvad - He/Him - Barbarian - Kalos - Pokémon handling, Athletics, Intimidation, Perception, Survival

27 years ago, a woman met a rather enchanting traveler in the region of Kalos. He wasn't from Kalos himself, rather a region so far off, she couldn't pronounce the name. He left her alone forever after gifting her one magical night and an egg. The egg and the child were born at nearly the same time, the child a healthy baby boy with brown hair and even darker brown eyes, the Pokémon one she had never seen before. Researchers told her it was a Tyrunt, a Pokémon thought to be extinct, but rumored to be sold for a high price on the black market. She kept this in mind, but never once could bring herself to sell the Pokémon. She named the child Arvad, a name that means wanderer, after his father's wandering spirit.

Raising both a fussy baby and a rambunctious and cranky Tyrunt was challenging for the single mother. She spent countless nights losing sleep and working odd jobs to feed her babies all on her own. But she was strong, and she provided a healthy life for the two, who grew to be like brothers. As he grew, Arvad showed he was a near perfect mix of his parents, exhibiting his father's thirst for exploration and adventure, but also housing his mother's temper. He and the Tyrunt both would get into trouble with their short fuses, so their mother took action and taught the boys how to redirect and control their anger. It ranged from taking a walk in the forest, to sparring and wrestling with one another. The Tyrunt was named Chomper by a 10 year old Arvad, who named him for all the chomping and biting he did to both Arvad himself, and the furniture and rocks around the house.

Growing into his teen years, life was getting easier for the young man. He and his brother were picking up their own jobs together, such as delivering mail, crushing boulders, and selling firewood. One of these jobs was to remove a grumpy Pokémon from someone's backyard. Somehow a Sandile had made it's home in the dirt of someone's garden, a less than ideal spot for the sand preferring Pokémon. When Arvad went to remove it, the Pokémon bit his hand and wouldn't let go. By this point the boy had grown used to getting bitten and scratched, bearing a few scars from Chomper. Calmly, he carried the small Pokémon out of the person's back yard and accepted his payment with the Sandile still attached to his hand by her teeth. She left a scar on his hand, but after being removed by his mother and hiding in their own garden for a few days, she emerged and joined in on his daily sparring and wrestling with excitement. He named her Fang in honor of her sharp fangs that scarred his hand.

When he was barely 17, there was a group of teens who had formed a weird sort of gang, with the oldest being the lead. They bullied other much younger kids, taking their coin and roughing them up. When Arvad witnessed this, for the first time in quite a while, he lost his temper. He challenged the lead to a battle, person vs person, and Pokémon vs Pokémon. Despite Arvad nearly reaching 6 feet tall, the lead accepted, and lost miserably. Midway through the intense battle, Chomper evolved, growing into a massive Tyrantrum and easily winning his battle. The group never returned to Arvad's side of town. He got scolded by his mother for starting a fight, but she later softened and told him how proud she was for him sticking up for what's right.

Now an adult, Arvad stood at a solid 6'2", boasting strong, yet lean muscle from his training and woodcutting. He and his Pokémon didn't stop their daily routine of training and working, and as a reward for their efforts, Fang evolved during their training, allowing her to fight better and learn new techniques with arms, instead of just four legs. Arvad and Chomper both kept their energy and thirst for adventure, but they kept mostly calm and restrained in their demeanor, only showing their excitement in special cases, their rage even rarer. Fang was still a bit hostile to new people, something Arvad fears she will never grow out of. By the time he was 23, tensions in Kalos were growing, and he feared a war was on the horizon. After a lot of debate, his mother agreed, and the family caught the next boat to a new land.

For the next 4 years, they lived in relative peace. Arvad took up his odd jobs like before to help his mother, and they lived in quiet and peace. As he was returning home from one of these jobs, he met a young Galarian Zigzagoon who was constantly headbutting his leg. Holding his laughter, he got down to the little Pokémon's eye level and joined in the headbutting until the Zigzagoon got dizzy. Arvad guessed the Zigzagoon deemed him worthy, as he jumped right into the man's arms and screamed at him until the man took him home. His mother wasn't exactly happy to have such a loud and rambunctious Pokémon in her once quiet home, but she couldn't argue with the screams of protest from the tiny Pokémon when she tried to kick him out. Arvad dubbed him Shriek, thinking it a perfect name.

The storms began when Arvad was home, and as the skies darkened and the Pokémon ran wild, he knew he had to do something. Promising to return home safely to his mother, no matter the outcome, he climbed onto Chomper's back. With Shriek in his lap and Fang just behind him, he set out into the wilds with a new sense of determination and purpose. He was doing to do whatever he could to stop this calamity and save their new home. If not for Galar, then for his family.

Mareep(Tesla)

  • overview of backstory, personality, and thoughts/feelings regarding recent events -see below
Andy is eager to observe the world around him and somewhat inquisitive. That inquisitiveness has made him very bright in terms of knowledge of nature but has also led to an unhealthy sense of danger because of it. Due to still being young, he is still a little naive, which results in him falling for pranks, however, when this does happen, he will see it as a learning experience and, in fact occasionally going along with it knowing full well that it’s a prank for the sake of humor.

Andy has high morals and won't allow anything to happen to his friends, going out of his way to try and settle disputes between other locals, even though it's clearly none of his business, telling the truth whenever he does something wrong, or just being around for people that have had bad days. This does lead to him getting into some sticky situations, however, such as people ignoring Andy during a dispute, at which point he will leave them alone.

Andy will start out shy to any person or pokèmon but will gradually warm up to them as time goes on and strive above most things to keep his friends happy, beware he will run away from anyone that lashes out at him. Battle-wise Andy favors being more on the defensive side, envisioning pokémon battles to be more like chess matches rather than matches of power preferring to pick his opponents apart with strategy instead.

History: Born into a quaint, moderately sized house in Turffield, Andy was an introvert at the start of his childhood, clinging mainly to his parents, Bob and Martha Richter for protection due to extreme shyness. This led to him being homeschooled and learning basic reading, writing, and math from them. The parents wanted him to make some friends with any other kids at their favorite spot, which also happens to be where the parents met, in Hulbury. However, if they tried to help him he would run away without saying a word with a very scared expression on his face, thus leading the local kids in Turffield to label him an oddball.

This continued until age 6 during one routine day at Andy's now favorite area. He was busy playing around the docks with his parents supervising him until a Water Ball pokémon popped its head out of the water. The Azurill, as identified by Mr. and Mrs. Richter who had a sort of innate bond thanks to being breeders themselves, merrily bounced up to the trio with a squeak. This was Andy's first encounter with a pokémon so initially, he recoiled away from it. The Aqua Mouse Pokémon just waved its bouncy tail at him, smiled and squeaked once more which made Andy more cautious now more than afraid as he reached out to pet the Marill of which it took full comfort in. Bob and Martha saw this occur and became overjoyed that their bundle of nerves seemed to have taken a shine to a pokémon and potential new friend. After a whole day of play by Andy and his new found poké-friend, Azurill, the Richters got ready to return to Turffield. Before they left, she squeaked again, waved using that tail of hers and walked back into the harbor

From then on, Andy slowly became more outgoing. By age 10 thanks to repeated visits to see Azurill, he was at least being more vocal with the Turffield locals, unless it was the first time meeting a person, in that case, he would start out timid but warm up to him or her after a few minutes of conversation. Andy's homeschooling was going well too, he was learning some reading, writing, and math This was also the time that the Richters would bestow an egg for Andy to incubate thanks to how his first encounter went. This turns into a near constant checking of the egg as it slowly hatches over the next 10 days. Once it does, Andy dotes on the little mouse as well as learns the ins and outs of breeding.

Andy and Aqua, an affectionate name for the Azurill, quickly bond over the next few years. During the year before his 18th birthday, Andy’s adventurous side started showing up. He would sneak out during the night to explore the areas around Turffield; not going too much farther than that because he didn't want to worry his mom and dad, he was very respectful of them after all. He yearned to head to not just the rest of the Galar region, but any other regions out there learning about the many cultures and pokémon present throughout with his own pokémon, though the Black Storm rendered this impossible thanks to the more aggressive and super-sized pokémon. Instead , he was spending his time with Aqua, in fact, the two were pretty much inseparable during this time.

While Aqua didn't appear to be affected by the black storm , at least not yet , he hoped his study on breeding would help shed some kind of light as to why this storm even happened and just what was that black object having only learned about these in books.

Aqua wasn't the only pokémon he raised, a bit after Azurill became a Marill, his parents gave him a Ledyba and Mareep egg which he lovingly raised as well. However, due to their recency, they are still newborns .
