Anna Helman

15

Sophomore

She can be shy around new people, a little hard headed too. Caring.

Anna came to this school on a scholarship. Her parents do own their own business but they aren't the wealthiest of people. Her grandparents on the other hand live on the higher side of life and paid for whatever the scholarship didn't so she could attend the school. In her free time she usually likes to find a quiet place and draw.

The loud speaker rang aloud as the last bell rang for classes to begin. The school was packed with students in there black, white, and beige uniforms as the made there way towards the homeroom classes. Chatter can be herd about the resent killing that had happend the week before. A fellow student was slaughtered in front of the schools swimming pool, his mangled body oozed blood into the water before a janitor found him and Since the pool has been off limits for students.

The students snap out of the meaningless chatter as the teacher calls role. Students raise there hands as there last name gets called to announce they are present.

One of the hands belongs to a boy named Yang. Timid and anti-social, his shaky hand raises up as the teacher calls his name once more, snapping him out of his mumbling as he kept his head down. After being marked he continued to look at his notebook and began to draw or doddle. It didn't matter. Just something to keep HIM at bay.

Anna was zoned out in her sketchbook working on a drawing she absolutely loved. All it was was a cherry blossom sprinkling it's petals on the small river below. It took the teacher at least 6 times at calling her name for her to snap back into reality, away from her cherry blossom. She raised her hand pencil in hand and when she knew she was marked she went right back to the drawing involuntarily drowning out her surroundings.

As the teacher continued on with the lesson plan for the day. Worksheets were passed back through the aisles. Yang sat next to Anna's as they worked on the worksheet as the teacher stepped out in the hallway to deal with some pressing matters about school safety. There was going to be and assembly in the auditorium about the 'Buddy system' and how to deal with a killer on the loose. Though the student were scared they were happy that they got some time off to fool around during the presentation. A snap could be herd as Yang's pencil snapped. He stood still for a moment, just looking at his broken pencil before turning toward her. Shaky fingers reached out and tugged at Anna's shoulder lightly to get her attention. Though they were not friends. They knew of each other from walking home and awkward meeting in local stores, were he would try to talk to her but would always fumble over his words.

"U-um...Excuse me, Anna. Could I borrow one of your pencils, please?"

Anna brought her head up from her worksheet, her attention was redirected much faster from the assignment than it was when she was drawing. She gave him a nod when the request was relayed to her and handed him her extra pencil. Her eyes then went to gaze at the teachers in the hall discussing the upcoming assembly. She had heard the words buddy system placing butterflies in her stomach. She wasn't really friends with anyone in the school yet so no one came to mind. What if she tried being more of a wallflower, then maybe the murderer wouldn't notice her. Or no one would notice she was murdered. With a shaky breath she turned back to her worksheet wanting to keep her mind off of the whole thing.

Yang looked at Anna through the corner of his eyes, gazing at her as he continued on his worksheet. Her hair was the second most beautiful thing about her beside her eyes. They captivated and sucked him in each time he tried to speak to her. A light blush grazed his face as he looked away from her. What if she had caught him? She would probably think he was some type of stalker, but that was the least he would be.

"Thank you..."

Anna looked back towards him "usually I bring two pencils to class, just in case that happens" she told him, just a little piece of advice since he seemed embarrassed. He cheeks were a slight shade of pink as of he were so it was safe to assume he was. Maybe little things like bringing more than one pencil might build up his confidence. She knew he could be a little shy, it must be awkward to have to ask others of things.

Class continued on as regular. The teacher would explain the mathematical problem on the board and the class would try to figure it out. Smartest toward the front and the class clowns toward the back. Often when the teacher wasn't looking one of the boys would shoot out a paper ball to no one in particular. Today the ball hit Yang in the head causing.him to mess up on his writing. A long line ran through the problem he was solving. He sat just looking at the unholy mark. Not many people knew about Yang, but he was a.perfectionist this little mark had inwardly drove him crazy. Looking back at the boy who had threw the ball snickered as he pulled another girls hair playfully. His eyes watched for a moment before flickering red and back to there original violet color. Turning back to his paper and began erasing the mark as best he could. But in the end he just asked for a new paper.

The intercom echoed through the school announcing that the educational assembly will begin and all students and staff should attend in order to brush up on crisis around the school. All students were released from class and told to walk to the auditorium.

Running through Anna's mind was a place where she could hide during the assembly, escape routes to the library or the courtyard running all through her head. The courtyard was preferable, usually no one stepped foot in there but she found it her center of inspiration. She walked down the halls with the river of students not too far ahead from yang before veering off into another hallway fighting the flow of students until she reached the end. Glancing behind her quickly to make sure there weren't any teachers behind her she continued walking until she reached the courtyard, the auditorium would be too dark anyway for drawing.

A hand quickly reached out and snaked toward Anna, grasping her shoulder as she walked down the empty walk way toward the courtyard. As small dark and husky voice was herd lightly in her ear as if it was right behind her, she could feel the breath on her neck. A dark chuckle could be herd.

"Thanks for the pencil~"

When turned around. She was confronted with nothing but air. A dark throaty chuckle echoed throughout.

Anna's chest rose and fell as her heart beat and breathing quickened when there was no face to the voice. Though she had some idea who that was. Yang. Though if it truly was him then why was he talking like that? He shuddered and was never confident with his words when he spoke to her. Maybe veering off from the group was a bad idea. She couldn't get hurt if there were hundreds of eyes all around the room. Quickly she started back towards the auditorium clutching her books tighter in her arms. As she got closer she actually quickened her pace into a run barging into the room and finding a seat in the back corner.

Attention was brought towards the stage as the main principal and his assistants stood at his side. Announcing that there will be rule changes to the schools regular scheduling concerning the safety of the students and staff.

"Now, now children please listen. As you may or may not know there was a incident at the school a week ago in the public pool. For this matter we have constructed a type of buddy system. All students are not allowed to leave the class rooms without one. And as to concerning the lunches...."

He continued on as the students looked on. Some listening some not. Soon a protector was show on a screen on the subject at hand. The auditorium slowly dimed as the lights were shut off. The only light illuminated from the projector.

.... Shaky hands lifted in front of a ghostly pale face. Fingers splattered with blood shook with unbelief, the thick red liquid oozed towards the drain on the floor as it soaked against the tiles of the white floor. Whimpers of sorrow and pain filled the men's bathroom as a conversation was held between, it would seem two people.

"Why...why did you do that..!?"

"Eh, he fucking deserved it. Little twit through some paper at us."

"No one deserves to die... Not like this..."

A dark chuckle echoed through the small white and red room..

"But eventually... Everyone has to die."

(Just wanted to make sure ^^)

Anna's attention was brought away from the speech and instead looking around the auditorium at the students who sat in it. One thing was strange though, in the sea of faces yang's wasn't there, she couldn't see his. She always thought he tried to be punctual for everything not wanting too get in trouble. Maybe is whole thing made him nervous, either way she wouldn't worry about it. He wasn't her responsibility.

When the assembly ended the students shuffled out of the auditorium and dispersed to their next classes. As they walked through the halls they mumbled about what the principle said, some even calling upon their friends to be their buddies in the new system. Anna still wasn't sure what she was going to do, instead she temporarily pushed it from her mind and started to make her way to the library hoping to get some peace and quiet during her study period.

Yang shivered as he walked down the crowed halls his eyes trying to adjust as his vision grew hazy, his head was throbbing and usually that wasn't a good sign. But he pressed on taking two headache pills from his bag and drank from a nearby water fountain, leaning up as he finish taking a sip of water Yang say Anna walk from the auditorium and into the library. Gulping he followed her inside.

Anna took a deep breath when she got inside loving the silence already. It was as if this room was separated from the entire building off in a world where no one spoke. She walked in further examining the rows of shelves next to her deciding to go into an aisle which she knew mainly held fantasy books. After what happened before the assembly, and what they talked about during she needed to bring her mind into another world. She walked down the isle slowly looking at each of the books to determine which one she wanted to read.

Yang stumbled into the library being hushed by the librarian he nodded. Slowly walking towards the book shelves he eyed some books about disorders and murders. Looking both ways before he took them. Sighing as he eyed where Anna was looking through the books he watched her from afar.

Anna smiled a little and picked out a book on giants. When she turned towards the couches she noticed a figure out of the corner of her eye. She looked over and froze for a moment seeing yang over by the bookshelves. The words from before replaying in her head. First the courtyard and now here, were they just bumping into each other? Before walking over to him she took deep breath and a hesitant step forward. Clutching the book to her chest she made her way over "hey... Are you alright... I-it just seems like you're following me" she came out telling him honestly, the events from today were unnerving and she needed something to reassure her it would be alright.

Yang froze as he held into his back pack tightly. Was she really talking to him? His throat became dry as he tried to form some words but all that he could do was emit fraction sentences. Awkwardly he tried to make small talk, his cheeks began to tint red as she stood their looking at him with her innocent eyes.

" I..I am not following you.."
