Advice/Help Troubles With Historic Face Claims

Hello all,

I'm currently working on a group RP set in the 1920's, and all has been going well - until I started creating my characters. I'm surprised I haven't realized this sooner, but there is a very poor amount of media coverage on this time period. And the very limited content that is available has a severe lack in diversity, especially that which originates in the 1920s. Is there an acceptable compromise to this situation? Does anybody know of a bigger selection of face claims that represent the style of its time period (not just blonde-haired, blue-eyed flappers)? Thanks in advance!

I gotcha my friend.

(Look at Period FCs)

I also found this an excellent resource for general fashion.

If ya need cars I got a resource for that too.

There is also a poc historical fc directory I will link on my lunch break.

No worries :) I will warn you it’s still kinda limited on men. You will get much more results for women in particular time periods in general, but especially women of color.

It seems your question has already been answered, but if you're looking for faces to fit a specific time period often I'll just opt for modern actors playing roles set in the appropriate time period. If none of those exist then I'll just choose a face I like and add a written description to describe more of what they look like in the context of the time period. For me, face claims are just a general guideline anyway. Rarely do my characters look exactly like them.

Jannah Jannah popping in to say that is exactly what the tumblr directories are. It’s a collection of gifs or images from period dramas. If you are like me and don’t necessarily watch the shows themselves. They will usually provide the actors name and some provide the characters name so you can Google them directly.

also L0velyGray L0velyGray Sonamhelps also has a period directory as well, just learned that when looking for more modern POc.

If you are looking for actual historical images, the National Archives catalog has loads and loads of them. Obviously, all of these images are in black and white and of varying quality due to the time period you're looking in. The vast majority of its images do not make good faceclaims, nor do they even feature people in them half of the time, but the archives are helpful if you want primary sources for the time period. I believe you can also search for documents, journals, letters, and other writings as well. Probably not what you're looking for, and it's also restricted to American history, but still. Here.
