Naxtaroth

The Raven
Welcome! This is going to be a community driven adventure where anyone and everyone is free to vote on the outcome. The style of RP will be a gauntlet/crucible themed quest based on D&D 5e mechanics. Essentially, the community will vote on a character to endure the challenges of a labyrinth and the trials of the various obelisks scattered throughout. The character will start at level 3, use XP leveling, and will reach level 20. The actions of the character will be frequently voted on and votes will span many, many things.

This Main tab will be where the questions are asked in detail. To vote, just scroll up, where the current poll will be posted, and vote. Occasionally a poll will be located on a different tab, but I will be sure to note if this is the case. I'll post the results of all polls here along with character info. If there aren't enough votes within a week or so, or there's a tie, I'll just roll for a random vote of my own. In the case of a tie, the vote will go to one of the options that is in the lead.

The other tabs are OOC for any chit chat, Items for an easy-access character inventory, a dice log just so I can show any rolls I do, Gallery/Maps for any maps or pretty pictures, and Story Only Archive where the narrative will be posted. The tabs that voters will need to follow are Main and Story Only Archive in order to see where things are at. The other tabs are just sort of here so I can organize information easier and have individual tabs for various things.

For the first vote, we have two options for our character.

1.) I can present a handful of characters and the community votes on which one we are using.

2.) I go through the character creation process, allowing votes on things such as race, class, background, personality traits, etc.

Okay, so, I'll be getting a handful of characters together that can then be voted on. I'll go ahead and throw a roll in here to see how many characters I'll present.

[dice]23729[/dice]

EDIT: I've decided to do 8 instead of 6.

Here are some short character bios just to give an idea of their personalities, skills, reasons for undertaking the trial, etc. Will post the full CS of whichever character gets voted as our champion. I pulled some things such as classes and races from Elemental Evil, the dandwiki, the dmguild, and some other sources. If you're unsure where to find info on something just ask.

:)

When Nia was just a toddler, a fiend possessed her, provoking her to act out and wander down a dark path. She began mingling with the underbelly of society. It wasn't until many years of being a criminal that a group of blood hunters took her in and realized the creature inside was what drove her behavior. After some years of training her how to use swords and crimson rites, they decided that the only way to at least get the fiend to lie dormant would be to have her undergo the same process they had undergone. This specific order of blood hunters were lycanthropes, warriors that could shift into a hybrid of wolf and man. Nia, however, thought this new beast within her was just as bad as the first. After about a decade or so, she finally caught wind of a mysterious labyrinth on a far off mesa. She heard that at the center of this labyrinth one could find their deepest desires. Hoping she could rid herself of both the beast and fiend within her, she set off for this labyrinth, knowing that she couldn't be the good person she yearned to be so long as they were constantly there, even when they weren't actively influencing her.

Zexori grew up on the streets, only the help of her fellow criminals able to keep her survive. She was never very big, but that meant she learned how to sneak around and steal with ease. There was one specific man who lived on the streets with her that took her under as his own apprentice, feeding her with wicked, chaotic thoughts of evil deeds. Years later, this man was revealed to be an aspect of the demon lord, Graz'zt. Once revealed to her, the demonic lineage flowing through her Tiefling blood jumped at the chance to please this demon lord. She began training in the arcane arts, forming a pact with him and doing his bidding. Every year he would send her to this strange labyrinth in the middle of nowhere, just to go around and check that the inner sanctum was still locked down. The labyrinth would always change every year in both design and its inhabitants. There was no telling what would happen to her once inside, though she always managed to get through thanks to the magic he had bestowed her. However, she needed more. She was starting to grow tired of being his lap dog and wanted to gain enough power to strike him down herself. This year, she would go into the labyrinth, and she would see what exactly was so important to keep locked up. Or, perhaps the gate was meant to keep people out? She didn't know what to expect, but she did know that she was getting inside this time.

Not exactly the sharpest arrow in the quiver, Syltoris was raised in a rural town, where he began hunting from an early age. He picked up the bow fairly quickly, but years later he'd pick up another skill even faster. Drinking. During the week, he was out hunting or trading some of his goods for coin. He made decent money off of them, however, on the weekends he'd be seen at the local tavern challenging others to drinking contests. He knew, of course, that he had the highest tolerance in town, but folks were always willing to bet against him. He found an addiction to this gambling, which soon expanded into not just drinking, but card and dice games as well. However, drinking would always be his gambling strong suit. Many have tried to address his addiction, but he always ignores them, never admitting he has a problem. His biggest win was a black riding horse that he won from a local farmer and she is his most prized possession. Recently while hunting, he found a strange arrow of elven design that seemed to hum with an odd energy. In pursuing its origin, he was led to a mysterious labyrinth. Of course, on his journey there he stopped at every tavern he could.

Khunoth grew up with a roving band of his nomadic goliath brethren. However, he wasn't as barbaric as the others, developing a wiser attitude and an independence from his clan, the Inulileana. He found an innate ability to speak with the wind and understand Auran Primordial, often times convoking the wind to do his bidding. This familiarity with the element of air helped him turn away a mighty wind storm that nearly wiped his entire clan out. This earned him the nickname of Windtamer and sealed his fate as a speaker of the winds. His communion with the air has, however, separated him from his old clan. He seeks to explore the world and reach far and wide to places he has never been. One of these such places is a mysterious labyrinth sitting atop a desert mesa, the obelisks within jutting up just high enough to be seen over the nearly 50 foot high walls. Some enter the labyrinth and face the trials in the hopes of riches or powerful magic, but Khunoth's motivation is simply to explore this labyrinth. He wants to know who built it, why they built it, and why it is so shrouded in mystery.

Once grand paladin, Grimgur served as a soldier in an infantry unit. He was eventually given command of this unit, which led them to a grave demise. He led them against a band of minotaurs belonging to a tribe of barbarians terrorizing the countryside. However, he made one fatal flaw, costing the lives of the entire unit. His soul remained on the material plane, searching far and wide for someone to return his soul to a vessel. Finally, he came across a lich who was able to bind him to the body of a half-orc. The lich said that in return, Grimgur must delve into an ancient labyrinth and retrieve a lost relic for him. Reconnected to this world as a revenant, Grimgur was filled with a surge of vengeance, his magic turning from that of a holy paladin's justice to the dark, twisted nature of a death knight's unholy wrath. Though the original band of barbarians that had defeated his unit were long dead, his vengeance let him pinpoint the descendant of their chief. Lucky for Grimgur, the labyrinth would be a simple pit stop on the way to this chief and he would slay the damn thing, the act literally being the last thing he'd ever do.

Tavokas grew up with an intense love of history. A true scholar, he would always get his hands on books in any way he could. However, his studies pushed him further than just the Feywild where he grew up. Eventually traveling to the Material Plane, he found even more books and even more knowledge. Eventually, he stumbled across a find that would effect the rest of his life. It strengthened his interest in mysterious presences, those becoming the forefront of his research, but at the same time, he began being racked by nightmares. Every night, vivid as can be, the dark force behind the discovery cackles in his mind. However, he did not let the fear overcome him. He trained, strengthening his body and his mind, becoming a fearsome night using ancient runes of power to magically fuel him in combat. A recent discovery of the existence of a strange labyrinth has drawn him out of the city and on a grand quest.

Raised by a Loviatan cult of surface dwelling drow, Cazna has always been drawn toward pain and suffering. She was so drawn toward it that she seeked out the capital city of the land, where she became the city executioner. The whip has always been her best friend, whether it be lashing across someone's back during an interrogation or snapping someone's neck during a public execution. However, pain is not the only thing on her list of entertainment. She gets a kick out of sick humor, mostly bad puns related to her job. Her most recent victim, a member of a local thieves' guild, brought her some trouble. The guild hired an assassin to track her down and kill her for the torture and execution of their guild member. Their real purpose was to show the city that they would not be put down rather than a personal vendetta, but they were willing to use the executioner as this example. Cazna survived the attempt and fled the city, keeping away from the assassin as best as possible. The assassin, hell bent on getting his money from this contract, chased her far across the land. Eventually, with the assassin hot on her heels, she stumbled upon a massive, curved wall with an entrance. She wandered inside, hoping to rid herself of the assassin, but not knowing the dangers that lay within.

Raised among a guild of assassins, Josalyn learned to deal with death at an early age. Even those in the guild saw her as heartless and that she felt no emotion. However, those who truly know her, know the truth. At the moment of the kill, she is never more alive. An expert sharpshooter with a longbow, the assassinations she did weren't heavily reliant on infiltration. She mostly relied on large public gatherings as her cover, taking out rooftop teams before honing in on the kill. However, the guild she belonged to eventually was found out. It was an inside job, the headquarters swarmed with royal soldiers. She doesn't know if the others had survived, but she was able to quickly escape with her bow, a cloak, an old key she had picked up on her first assassination, and some basic leather armor. She began exploring, becoming a mercenary for hire to make some coin. Throughout her many tavern trips, tales of a magical labyrinth that could grant wishes to anyone who solved it quickly filled her mind with one thought. She would find this labyrinth, solve it, and wish her old guild back into existence.
