Fantasy Travellers: A Tale of Exploration

Roleplay Availability
For centuries, the massive Iron Valley has been the home of all of humanity. Ever since humans have been able to draw metal out of the ground, they've done so in this valley; the abundance of natural resources, not only iron, but copper, coal, silver and gold, as well as the fertility of the land, have made this the ideal homeland for humanity, and ever since the land has been settled, very few have ventured out. Humanity had built a sturdy civilization built from the iron of the valley, and that's where they were comfortable.

However, life has become increasingly difficult in the valley. Overpopulation, shortages in both common and precious metals, and disease become increasingly prominent, and humanity will have no choice but to soon leave the valley. The Grand Monarch of the Valley himself has commissioned a handful of people from all walks of life, from farmers to guardsmen, to make the pioneering journey to find a new land for the people of the Valley to call home. For the first time in over a milennium, humans will walk out into the farthest reaches of the land. You are one of those people. The group, nervous of the journey ahead, will walk into a foreign land with no knowledge of what to expect.

You always heard tales as a child of magic in the land outside the valley; occurrences that defy explanation, creatures so extraordinary as to seem unbelievable even if you were to lay eyes on them, civilizations of other creatures, even larger than that of the Iron Valley. You always chalked it up to old wives' tales as ancient as humanity itself. You will soon find, however, that the reality is much more breathtaking.

This roleplay would be a casual-level roleplay that takes place on a world like Earth, but different for obvious reasons. The time period equivalent of the Iron Valley would likely be the dark ages. The story, as the title suggests, would focus on the explorations of the group in the world. I would act somewhat as a narrator/stage-setter, describing surroundings and occasionally playing minor characters. Beyond that, I honestly don't have much of a plan, and it will probably be a roleplay that's made up as we go along. Any interest?

Update:

I was originally going to have an in-depth update that was a few paragraphs long, but because my computer betrayed me and deleted all the work for it, I am forced to be brief so as to cut my losses for the time being. The roleplay will be divided into 'Acts' like a play, each with a varying number of chapters. Each act will address a different mythical creature or topic, potentially multiple in one. I have the first two acts somewhat planned, but are vague ideas at this point, and I'm reserving the last 10 Acts of the roleplay for my own ideas that I come up with along the way, but I intend for the roleplay as a whole to be 20 Acts long, assuming it can survive that long. That means eight acts are still open for ideas, should you decide you want some of your own ideas to be added to the roleplay. I will accept any ideas so long as they don't conflict with my own plans for the roleplay and are well accepted by the rest of the roleplayers. What this means is, along with being a place for you to show interest to the roleplay, you can now submit ideas here to be considered for use in the roleplay by me. If it gets enough likes, I will use it in the roleplay. If you would rather have me surprise you, that's fine as well. To keep track of ideas, Here is the current line-up of events for the roleplay.

Prologue

Introduction of the human kingdom, set-up for the story.

Act I

Will likely be about elves, and will be about the human group's introduction to magic.

Epilogue

Conclude the story, will involve the aftermath of the events of the roleplay, and what happened to everyone involved throughout the story.

Other plans I have include having some character roles in the story that are more than just 'for show'. In other words, characters that contribute the the lorekeeping of the story. For example, a historian character might be given their own thread (since this will be a hosted project) to summarize the events of the story so far. A scribe character might be tasked with jotting down information on the various races of the story in another thread, and yet another thread might be dedicated to a cartographer who makes a map of the world based on the route the group takes as the story progresses.

This is all, admittedly, a tad bit lazy of me, as this is usually all the work of the project host. However, I want everyone to be deeply involved in the roleplay so they have a reason to stay, and I want this roleplay to be our roleplay, not just mine.

Anyways, submit your ideas down below for ideas for acts, and be sure to give likes to the ideas you want to see; the more likes, the more likely I will be to integrate it.

More information to come, might polish this post up a bit on a later date.

@Aquila @GreenBirdie I guess the question is this; should we have this as a very small roleplay until it picks up momentum or wait? Also, Invite friends if you can; I have none.

Wait just a few more days, then get started. I'll see if anybody I know would like to join.

I think this would be interesting! There would be plenty of ways to add twists to this, and I can already think of a few. I'm assuming there is such a thing as magic and mythical creatures, which adds a mysterious element to it.

The Magic and mythical beings will be the main focus of the story, along with the secondary focus of actually finding a new home for humanity, but humans are not yet practitioners of magic. Someone in the group might become humanity's first mage during the journey.

I have an eccentric historian and scribe in mind for this, I can picture him going around and using different tools on certain creatures and corpses just to see what happens.

I really like the idea of a scribe! I'm good with information. And stuff.

It would really keep me interested.

I don't have an amazing idea per se, but I would love it if our characters met either some sort of a winged race or a winged sort of a creature, like a gryphon, or had a quest revolving around them.

Typo in the update section, you want Epilogue, not Prologue. Also, thanks for the update, I really am interested in the possibilities now! I'd like to ask if it's ok to PM you with ideas, since you only mention posting it in them thread.

Well, the reason I want them in the thread is so that the other people interested can give likes as sort of a voting process for the ideas they like. We can all begin brainstorming, however, when I start the hosted project.

@GreenBirdie

What about an arc about dragons?  Or an arc about...oh I don't know...some type of mythical creature that rarely garners attention...such as mermaids or centaurs?  They're bound to come across water at some point in their travels, whether it is a lake or an ocean, is most likely up to the creator of this idea.  Oh, maybe they come across a Selkie?  I'm interested, I just have to think of a character for this.

So you mention farmers to guardsmen?  We have one or two people interested in eccentric scribes or a historian.  I suppose it is off to find info on occupations in the dark ages then  but I'm interested.

I can agree on an arc about some uncommon mythical creature. How about griffons?

As I already mention the Gryphon/Griffon idea, I'm seconding this option. Anything with wings would be great, really.
