She seated herself next to him on his bed. It took a while for her to formulate her words. "I don't want to die, Maverick. I want to continue living with you and the others, drinking, fighting, and laughing like we do. I-I'm scared."

He half smiled "We all are, fear is good. It helps to show our limitations. It reminds us not to be stupid. But, fear should never hold us back." "If we are to afraid to try and fight, then we have already given up."


He sighed and put his hands behind his head. "My dad says I have always been this reckless and half cocked. Hell, we only get one life, so I am going to enjoy it. Even if it is only pixels"

She smiled and laid down next to him, closing her eyes. "You're right. We should just enjoy it. Thanks, Maverick."

 

[Zoran]

Morning came and Maverick's eyes flicked open and he sat straight up. Ellis had fallen asleep next to him. He snickered to himself stood up and stretched. He stood there for a bit, only in his boxers, before putting his gear on with the menu option. His sword once again strapped upside down on his back. He headed downstairs before the others. The cavern wasnt particularly busy but there were hushed whispers. He sat down at an empty table and ordered pancakes.

Aria was also up. She sipped some coffee. She looked up and gave Maverick a small smile. "You're up early. You didn't have enough fun last night?" she was eluding to knowing that Ellis had gone to him that night. "Or are you two not a couple?"

 

[Zoran]

"haha not quite" he said eating ravinously "I don't understand how a virtual thing could work anyway" He said between bites.


"you have a fling here?"

She laughed. "Oh no, but I could." she teasingly ran a hand down his spine. "I think it would work since you can still feel everything." she then caressed his face. "You can feel that, can't you. If you got serious with someone you could find them when you got back into the real world."

 

[Zoran]

"If we ever get back"


Some of the others begain filing from the stairwell.


"well its about time you knuckle heads got up, we need to head out soon" Maverick said finishing his meat

Aria immediately put her hood back up and finished her food. "We will get to the real world, Maverick, I promise you that." 
Elis trotted up but stopped in front of Maverick, blushing. She'd slept beside him. "A-A-Ah g-g-good moaning-- morning. Good morning."


The others laughed and ruffled her short brown hair. "What has gotten into you?" Matthias asked with a deep hearty laugh. "So, today we're getting better tools, right?"

 

[Zoran]

"Definatly" Said maverick "Your gear looks like crap"


Maverick sat there waiting for them all to get there grub on. He pulled out a cigerette and started smoking.

They ate ravenously for a while before getting up, patting their bellies in unison and proclaiming that this day would be a good one. Matthias led them to town, his head held high. He was obviously cin a good mood. Orin bounced along beside Maverick, occasionally pulling a snack food from his inventory and munching.


"I'm looking forward to whatever new clothes you ladies get." he said with a wink. "I can't wait to see you in cuter things."


"Oh can it Orin!" said Ellis bashfully.


"You're quite the flirt." laughed Aria.

 

[Zoran]

"Haha, alright, we need to move out." He stood up, putting the ciggerette out on his arm. His health went down slightly. He threw on his cloak and headed out the door.

They all followed after him. Aria snickered to herself. "I hope you don't put your cigs out on your arm in real life."

 

[Zoran]

"I don't smoke in rl" He led them all to the armour vender. Maverick picked out some new armour including steel boots, bracers, metal chest peace.


"this is a bit heavier but its raises my health and armour rating alot"


"Alrigh guys, grab some gear" "dont worry we will pay with guild money"

With a heavy sigh Aria put away her cloak and purchased level 30 armor. She got a metal breast plate, bracers, and a metal gauntlet for the hand opposite her sword hand. Ellis upgraded to level 25 armor. It was light and leather, perfect for an archer. The boys both got plate armor to suit their fancies.


"Looks like we can take on anything!" said Matthias with pride.


They also suped up their weapons. Both boys got new swords and Ellis got a new bow and filled her quiver.

 

[Zoran]

Maverick kept his sword, he wasnt wanting to exchange it. He had a good feeling about it.


He flipped his hood onto his head and said, "lets go, its about time we send that god damned boss to its grave"

"Yeah!" everyone but Aria cheered.


Ellis ran up to Maverick and linked arms with him. "Nothing can stop us now." she said cheerfully. "I know you'll keep me safe." she leaned her face against his arm.

 

[Zoran]

Maverick Quickly block Cannon's sword but the attack pushed Maverick back a few feet. The Giant Cannon stood 10 feet tall, had the strength of 10 men and had a saw-toothed sword. He had already killed 2 of their comrades and his health had only dropped halfway. The dead were slumped over on the ground, blood pooling around them. The dead contained, Matthias and Jennifer.


"Retreat!' Yelled Maverick as the Giant hammered him with his giant blade. Maverick was barely able to block.

Aria and Ellis ran to his aid. Orin was frozen in place. Aria used her last potion to heal Maverick. "We aren't leaving without you." Ellis cried.


"You're our leader." said Aria.

 

[Zoran]

The Giant raise his blade for a killing blow, when his sword hand was shot full of arrows.


"don't worry guys, we got your back"


An archery Guild had come to back them up. Maverick nodded at them.


"Alright, they will give us covering fire, Ellis, Aria, you take left and right. Orin you take its back, I'll charge it head on."


Every one got into position, the giant attacked Maverick as the others attacked from positions. The Giant's health was quite low, it was obvious he was getting angry. He roared, spun to the side and slashed at Aria. Maverick ran, leaped into the air and plunged his sword deep into its heart. The Giant yelped and toppled over backwards.

Orin rolled out of the way just in time. However there was no cheering as the giant lay dead. Ellis hurried to the body of Matthias, tears in her eyes. Aria, walked over and put a calming hand on her shoulder.


"He died like a true warrior." she said, trying to comfort Ellis, having seen her own share of death.

 

[Zoran]

Maverick stepped on the giants chest and yanked his sword out. Alot of the players names were "dinging" which ment they had leveled up. Mavericks level had increased to 25. Maverick sighed and lit a ciggerette. He patted Ellis and the head and poured alcohol on the dead. He then flicked his ciggerette onto their corpses. They burst into flames.


"Burial fit for a king"

Ellis quickly turned to him and pressed her face to his bloodied armor, washing it clean with her tears. Aria sighed and said a few words of departure for the dead. Orin hung his head in grief.

Months passed, they beat all ten bosses in the plains, with the help of other guilds. Mavericks guild was now at level 40, they had not recruited and more members so they still only had 4. After beating the last boss they game announced !Congragulations! you may now procede into they forest!


All the players cheered, and raced ahead into the forest town. Maverick followed after them, gesturing for his friends to follow. They entered the town and were amazed. It was massive especially compared to the town in the plains.


Maverick forced on a smile "Come on guys! Time to celebrate! we made it into a new area! Drinks are on me."

Ellis and Orin cheered. Aria looked at Maverick skeptically. They went to the pub and had there fill of drinks and meat.


"With food like this, maybe I like this world better!" Orin exclaimed, stuffing his face.
